Victims of the bombing of Dresden
(original mail: black and white photograph
of a huge mound of mangled bodies)

This morning's local newspaper stated that, tomorrow morning at 6am, the 400
local guardsmen of the 151st Signal Battalion will be leaving for the Middle
East. Among those guardsmen is a friend in his early forties named Donald,
whom I've worked with on several residential construction jobs. He will
leaving South Carolina and will be joining around 300,000 troops that are
already in the Middle east region. They are there for one purpose, and that
purpose is to wage war.

The presumption is strong that the war will erupt soon, for billions of
dollars have been spent already, and soon the weather in Iraq will be
unfavorable for ground forces. By mid-April, dust storms are frequent in
Iraq, and the temperatures will be prohibitive for wearing haz-mat suits.
Also, we are told almost daily about more military deployments to the Middle
east region.

Let's face the truth about this whole mess that has been created by the
current administration. It has been well said many times that the first
casualty of war is the truth. The truth is that Iraq's military doesn't
stand a chance against the military might of the United States or Great
Britain. Iraq's population is around 22 million people; the United States
has a population of over 250 million; and Great Britain has a population of
around 60 million. This means that the United States and Great Britain
outnumber the Iraqi people 14 to 1. The bulk of the Iraqi population is also
poor.

What is the strength of Iraq's navy and air force? How many aircraft
carriers do they have? How many battleships do they have? How many heavy
bombers do they have? How many fighter jets do they have? I have seen no
news reports on this. The reason is obvious. Iraq no longer has an air force
or a navy worth mentioning. As a marine soldier on the front lines in Kuwait
told a news reporter recently in an interview, They don't stand a chance.
He is indeed correct. Yesterday on Fox news I learned that around 1200 B-52
heavy bombers will descend upon Iraq in the opening of the military
campaign. Iraq will be powerless to stop this. The blitzkrieg that will be
unleashed upon Iraq will be far greater than the one that the Nazis
unleashed upon Poland in September of 1939. When I look at this scenario, I
am reminded of Polish soldiers on horseback going up against German tanks.
Also, think of the carnage that 1200 heavy bombers will create upon a
defenseless people. In the 1940 blitz on London, casualties were estimated
at: 43,000 Killed 51,000 Seriously injured 88,000 Slightly injured. In
July and August of 1943, the bombing of Hamburg resulted in firestorms that
caused the deaths of around 50,000 people. As a result of these raids over a
million people fled the city.

In 1945, the fire bombing of Tokyo began on March 9 and 10. The area of
Tokyo selected was four miles by three miles, a zone with a civilian
population density of 103,000 per square mile. A high concentration of
incendiary bombs dropped from the huge U.S. B-29 Superfortresses ignited a
series of fires, fanned by brisk winds, which raged out of control within
half an hour, the result of which was that more than 15 square miles of
Tokyo was burned out. About 100,000 men, women and children were killed and
another 100,000 people were made homeless. According to the U.S. Army Air
Forces: No other air attack of the war, either in Japan or Europe, was so
destructive of life and property.

The bombing of Dresden was also horrifying. The Allies brought out many of
their best planes and most destructive bombs for the raid. Many of the bombs
were incendiaries, which are fire bombs constructed with magnesium that are
dropped in clusters and spread over the drop site. 13 February, 1945 brought
796 Lancaster bombers and 9 Mosquitoes from the Royal Air Force (RAF). In 3
hours, they dropped 1,478 tons of explosive bombs and 1,182 tons of
incendiaries . Likewise, the American Flying Fortresses and Liberators
dropped 1,800 explosive bombs and 136,800 fire sticks. American planes
completed the raid when they returned and unleashed 3,700 more explosive
bombs on Dresden. As a cultural center, not a military stronghold, Dresden
held few obstacles that could interfere with the pilots' missions. Not only
did the incendiary explosives increase the severity of the bombing, but also
the timing stimulated controversy. The Allies were aware of the mass of
refugees, yet they still machine-gunned the fleeing population as they ran
to escape the flames and explosions. The citizens were in an equally
hopeless situation. When the first bombs started falling, the citizens were
merely warned to keep sand and water handy. Incendiaries caused the
temperature to climb to degrees previously unheard of in Germany or Europe,
1800 degrees Fahrenheit. The fires depleted oxygen and

A Real Policy For Peace

There is only one nuclear power in the Middle East: Israel.

There is only one country in the Middle East that refuses to sign the Nuclear
Non-Proliferation Treaty: Israel.

There is only one country in the Middle East that refuses to allow
international inspections of its nuclear facilities: Israel.

There is only one country in the Middle East that stands in defiance of more
than 60 United Nations resolutions: Israel.

There is only one country in the Middle East that invaded and continues to
occupy land belonging to its neighbors: Israel.

I am not setting out to bash Israel, but merely to point out undeniable facts
that most of the America media and American politicians studiously ignore. Is
it too difficult for Americans to grasp that the United States has a blatant
double standard and that the people in Arab countries justifiably resent that
double standard? The Arabs do not expect or demand that the United States
become the enemy of Israel. They recognize the close ties between the two
countries. All they ask for is simple fairness.

It's not fair to threaten Iraq with war for allegedly violating U.N.
resolutions while protecting Israel from any consequences for violating more
U.N. resolutions. It's not fair to go to war to undo the invasion of Kuwait by
Iraq while condoning the continued occupation by Israel of portions of Lebanon,
Syria and Palestine. It's not fair to threaten Iraq and Iran about weapons of
mass destruction while remaining silent about those possessed by Israel. It's
not fair to harp on the crimes committed by Saddam Hussein while rationalizing
the crimes committed by Israel. Do you realize that in just the past week, as
of this writing, the Israelis have killed 33 Palestinians?

Do you realize that if the United States announced that its policy is to rid
the entire Middle East of weapons of mass destruction, including those
possessed by Israel, that the United States would receive the overwhelming
support of the Arab world?

Fairness was once the characteristic of the American republic. It consists
simply of doing exactly what our great founder, George Washington, recommended:
treat all countries the same, showing neither favoritism nor enmity to any.
Moreover, he pleaded, do not involve yourself in other people's feuds and
quarrels. And finally, he warned against the evils of foreign influence in our
domestic affairs.

Every single foreign-policy problem we face, including the threat of terrorism,
is a result of violating those three admonitions: We don't treat all nations
the same; we do involve ourselves in other people's quarrels; and we have
allowed foreign influence to exert tremendous influence on our policies. Far
from being the republic Washington and his contemporaries gave us, we have
become an empire, very much like Rome.

There are nearly 40,000 permanent lobbyists in Washington, swarming over our
535 elected officials like flies on roadkill. We have the bizarre ritual of
practically every candidate for president making a visit to the Israeli lobby
and pledging undying support for a foreign country. While millions in Africa
and Latin America suffer terrible poverty, not to mention 30 million of our own
people, we pour billions of dollars of aid into Israel, which has a comfortably
high standard of living. Again, foreign influence is the reason.

The truth is, we have no natural enemies except the North Koreans, who are
taught from the cradle to hate us. Islam is not our enemy. The Arab world is
not our enemy. Iran is not our enemy. Russia and China are not our enemies.
Except for the North Koreans, the only enemies we have in this world are those
we created with our unjust policies and actions.

President Bush fancies himself a Christian. It's too bad he isn't, but then
most Christians would not be recognizable to Christ if he returned to Earth.
Peace, love and justice are not very fashionable in many Christian circles
these days. Many of them prefer war, provided they don't have to fight it.

[CTRL] French Company Smuggles Spare Parts to Iraq

Iraq strengthens air force with French parts
Bill Gertz
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
Published March 7, 2003

A French company has been selling spare parts to Iraq for its
fighter jets and military helicopters during the past several months,
according to U.S. intelligence officials.

The unidentified company sold the parts to a trading company in
the United Arab Emirates, which then shipped the parts through a
third country into Iraq by truck.

The spare parts included goods for Iraq's French-made Mirage
F-1 jets and Gazelle attack helicopters.

An intelligence official said the illegal spare-parts pipeline was
discovered in the past two weeks and that sensitive intelligence
about the transfers indicates that the parts were smuggled to Iraq as
recently as January.

Other intelligence reports indicate that Iraq had succeeded in
acquiring French weaponry illegally for years, the official said.
The parts appear to be included in an effort by the Iraqi military to
build up materiel for its air forces before any U.S. military action,
which could occur before the end of the month.

The officials identified the purchaser of the parts as the Al
Tamoor Trading Co., based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. A
spokesman for the company could not be reached for comment.
The French military parts were then sent by truck into Iraq from a
neighboring country the officials declined to identify.

Iraq has more than 50 Mirage F-1 jets and an unknown number
of Gazelle attack helicopters, according to the London-based
International Institute for Strategic Studies.

An administration official said the French parts transfers to Iraq
may be one reason France has so vehemently opposed U.S. plans
for military action against Iraq. No wonder the French are opposing
us, this official said.

The official, however, said intelligence reports of the parts sale
did not indicate that the activity was sanctioned by the French
government or that Paris knows about the transfers.

The intelligence reports did not identify the French company
involved in selling the aircraft parts or whether the parts were new or
used.

The Mirage F-1 was made by France's Dassault Aviation.
Gazelle helicopters were made by Aerospatiale, which later became
part of a consortium of European defense companies.

The importation of military goods by Iraq is banned under U.N.
Security Council resolutions passed since the 1991 Persian Gulf
war.

Nathalie Loiseau, press counselor at the French Embassy, said
her government has no information about the spare-parts smuggling
and has not been approached by the U.S. government about the
matter.

We fully comply with the U.N. sanctions, and there is no sale of
any kind of military material or weapons to Iraq, she said.
A CIA spokesman had no comment.

A senior administration official declined to discuss Iraq's
purchase of French warplane and helicopter parts. It is well known
that the Iraqis use front companies to try to obtain a number of
prohibited items, the official said.

The disclosure comes amid heightened anti-French sentiment in
the United States over Paris' opposition to U.S. plans for using force
to disarm Iraq.

A senior defense official said France undermined U.S. efforts to
disarm Iraq last year by watering down language of U.N. Security
Council Resolution 1441 that last fall required Iraq to disarm all its
chemical, biological and nuclear weapons programs.

France, along with Russia, Germany and China, said yesterday
that they would block a joint U.S.-British U.N. resolution on the use
of force against Iraq.

French Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin told reporters in
Paris on Wednesday that France will not allow a resolution to pass
that authorizes resorting to force.

Russia and France, as permanent members of the Security
Council, will assume their full responsibilities on this point, he
stated.

France has been Iraq's best friend in the West. French arms
sales to Baghdad were boosted in the 1970s under Premier
Jacques Chirac, the current president. Mr. Chirac once called
Saddam Hussein a personal friend.

During the 1980s, when Paris backed Iraq in its war against Iran,
France sold Mirage fighter bombers and Super Entendard aircraft to
Baghdad, along with Exocet anti-ship missiles.

French-Iraqi ties soured after the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait that led
to the 1991 Persian Gulf war.

France now has an estimated $4 billion in debts owed to it by
Iraq as a result of arms sales and infrastructure construction
projects. The debt is another reason U.S. officials believe France is
opposing military force to oust Saddam.

Henry Sokolski, director of the private Nonproliferation Policy
Education Center, said French transfers of military equipment to
Iraq would have an immediate and relevant military

THIS WAR IS TREASON
FBI whistleblower: 'We can't stop terrorism unleashed by Iraq war.' So why are they going ahead with it?

Anyone who believes the attack on Iraq is about defending the U.S. against terrorism should listen to veteran FBI agent Coleen Rowley. Rowley, you'll recall, caused a sensation when her testimony in front of Congress fingered higher-ups in the Bureau who inexplicably obstructed and effectively derailed the anti-terrorist effort in the crucial days prior to 9/11: she wrote a letter to the FBI's top brass that exposed the near-criminal incompetence of her superiors and set off a firestorm of recriminations that has yet to abate. Now she has written another letter, pointing out that the problems she identified back then have gotten worse:

"In June, 2002, on the eve of my testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee, you told me that you appreciate constructive criticism and that FBI agents should feel free to voice serious concerns they may have about senior-level FBI actions. Since then I have availed myself twice of your stated openness.

"At this critical point in our country's history I have decided to try once again, on an issue of even more consequence for the internal security posture of our country. That posture has been weakened by the diversion of attention from al-Qaeda to our government's plan to invade Iraq, a step that will, in all likelihood, bring an exponential increase in the terrorist threat to the U.S., both at home and abroad."

The capture (by Pakistan) of Bin Laden's reputed second in command has led some to argue that the U.S. government can walk and chew gum at the same time, but the sudden elevation of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed from number 22 to number 2 in the terrorist hierarchy strikes many as suspicious. In any event, Rowley's accusations, this time around, are devastating, not only to the FBI high command but to the War Party. She writes:

"What is the FBI's evidence with respect to a connection between al-Qaeda and Iraq? Polls show that Americans are completely confused about who was responsible for the suicidal attacks on 9-11 with many blaming Iraq. And it is clear that this impression has been fostered by many in the Administration."

The government's war propaganda is actively undermining the FBI's effort to identify and root out terrorism in this country. Rowley points to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's contention that the Saddam-Osama connection is certain, counterposing it to Brent Scowcroft's skepticism, and asks: which is it?

"The answer to this is of key importance in determining whether war against Iraq makes any sense from the FBI's internal security point of view. If the FBI does have independent data verifying such a connection, it would seem such information should be shared, at least internally within the FBI."

Could it be because such a connection doesn't exist?

Americans ought to be shocked by Rowley's revelation that the FBI has yet to interview Zacarias Moussaoui, the man she was prevented from investigating, who has since been shown to have a direct connection to the events of 9/11. The "shoe bomber" Richard Reid has also, somehow, escaped extensive interrogation. What's up with that? It's a matter of priorities, says Rowley: and apparently the chief priority of the U.S. government is not preventing future terrorist attacks on American soil, but prosecuting a diversionary war against the wrong enemy.

Rowley shows that the break with our longtime closest allies hurts the war on terrorism, since the great majority of Al Qaeda operatives are based in Europe, and makes the cogent point that it was the French, after all, who fingered Moussaoui. She also exposes the mass round-up and detention of thousands of Arabs as largely a political ploy:

"After 9/11, Headquarters encouraged more and more detentions for what seem to be essentially PR purposes. Field offices were required to report daily the number of detentions in order to supply grist for statements on our progress in fighting terrorism."

Particularly striking is Rowley's analogy likening the attack on Iraq to the FBI's assault on the Branch Davidians at Waco. Like Saddam Hussein, David Koresh was demonized by government officials and the media in preparation for the strike: like Iraq, the Davidian "compound" was said to be the source of a weapons cache; like the Iraqi dictator, the Davidian guru was said to be abusing his own people (according to Janet Reno, he was sexually abusing the cult's children). Much of the case against Koresh and his followers was debunked after the siege incinerated those children, and the FBI, says Rowley, has learned its lesson from the Waco disaster but the U.S. government has failed to apply this lesson to the foreign policy realm:

"We learned some lessons from this unfortunate episode and quickly explored better ways to deal with such challenges. As a direct

Thousands of Russians volunteer to defend Iraq
Around ten thousand Russian citizens have applied for entry visas into Iraq
to defend this country against the planned aggression by the
warmongering USA and UK, according to the Iraqi Embassy in Moscow.

Iraqi Ambassador to Moscow, Abbas Khalaf, declared last week that the
Embassy had received around 3,500 requests, a number which has
multiplied in the last few days, according to sources in the same Embassy.

The requests come from young males, some with combat experience, who
describe themselves as volunteers who are willing to defend Iraq against
the illegal armed aggression of the USA and the United Kingdom, two
countries which continue to follow a belligerent stance on crisis
management, wholly outside the generally accepted concepts of a New
World Order based upon multilateralist approaches to problem solving,
based upon the United Nations Organisation, a position championed by
president Putins Russian Federation.

For those who present an adequate reason for travelling to Iraq, the
Embassy provides a visa and transportation, free of charge.

The Wall Street Journal spells it out: Turkey could lose oil spoils of war

By Henry Michaels
7 March 2003

Back to screen version| Send this link by email | Email the author

For all the denials in Washington and the corporate media, the looming
invasion of Iraq is all about oil and strategic control over the Middle East
and the wider Central Asian region. The Wall Street Journal, the voice of
American big business, declared as much in its March 4 editorial
denouncing the vote by the Turkish parliament to reject the use of the
country as a staging post for the US operation.

The editorial bemoaned the failure of Turkeys political and military leaders
to shape public opinion to recognize the alleged benefits of supporting
the US takeover of Iraq. It summarized the benefits as follows:

The badly needed cash (and US goodwill) aside, Turkey would benefit as
much as any nation from a neighboring Iraq that was free of both a
dictator and UN sanctions. Turkey would also give itself a larger voice in
postwar Iraq, especially in dealing with the Kurds. The Turkish military was
demanding joint supervision of the disarmament of the Kurds after the war,
for example, and for a buffer zone manned by Turkish troops in northern
Iraq, presumably in order to limit the free passage of Kurds into southern
Turkey. Now the US will have every right to ignore Turkish desires and
work with Kurds militarily and politically after the war. And the Turks can
forget about any postwar Iraqi oil spoils.

In the most crass and brazen manner, the Journal has spelled out the
criminal calculations that dominate the Bush administration and Wall
Street: the looting of Iraq and the region of its oil spoils, the use of
some of the spoils to pay off its accomplices, and the military suppression
of the aspirations of the regions people for liberation from national and
economic oppression.

In return for joining the US attack, the Turkish military would be rewarded
with control over Kurdish-populated northern Iraq, where a degree of
autonomy currently exists, and a cut of the oil proceeds.

As for the badly needed cash, it was to consist of $6 billion in aid,
followed by $24 billion in credits, all on the condition that the Turkish
government imposed the demands of the International Monetary Fund,
strongly influenced by the US, for a privatization program and cuts in its
national budget. These measures would of course require further
devastating cuts to jobs and social programs in a country where most
people live in cruel poverty, with an average monthly income for a worker
of less than 150 euros.

Press corps doyenne gets no notice
Published March 7, 2003

 THE WASHINGTON TIMES
A long-running Washington tradition apparently ended last night when,
for the first time in memory, the doyenne of the White House press corps
was not called on in a presidential press conference.
Syndicated columnist Helen Thomas, who has covered every president
since John F. Kennedy, was relegated to the third row in last night's East
Room event and if the memory of press corps veterans is accurate
received her first presidential snub.
One reporter who has covered the past six presidents said: I don't
remember a press conference in which [Mrs. Thomas] didn't get a
question.
For many years, it was a tradition for Mrs. Thomas to ask the first
question at White House news conferences and end them by saying, on
behalf of the press corps, Thank you, Mr. President. However, in recent
years, her influence has waned although she was still afforded one of
the first questions and continues to enjoy a front-row seat at regular
White House briefings.
For four decades the White House correspondent for United Press
International, Mrs. Thomas, 82, has in recent months harangued Bush
spokesman Ari Fleischer, asking how President Bush can slaughter innocent
Iraqis in a quest for oil.
Now syndicated by Hearst Newspapers, Mrs. Thomas has also
denounced Mr. Bush outside the confines of the White House briefing
room. This is the worst president ever, Mrs. Thomas told the Daily Breeze
of Torrance, Calif., in January. He is the worst president in all of American
history.
Also snubbed by Mr. Bush at last night's news conference was Mike
Allen of The Washington Post, the second consecutive time that the
president has skipped over The Post's correspondent, who was seated last
night in the front row.

Knights of the Hell

In those days in June of 1944 the whole of Paris saluted the liberators
General Leclercs division and Anglo-American troops. Intelligence officers
and sappers of the allies were the only who didnt participate in the
general exultation. They were searching buildings one after another for
storehouses of weapons, mines and Nazis escaping from retribution.

The English came across something extraordinary in a disable peoples
shelter. They saw an old fantastically shaped bowl in the center of a large
round table. There were chairs with high Gothic backs standing around
the table. Knights armor, helmets, mantles embroidered with crosses, arm-
bands with swastikas on them and black SS service caps were scattered
everywhere.

An aged colonel from intelligence department immediately came to the
building and slowly inspected the hall. A young lieutenant asked him what
had happened in the room and supposed: It looks like a performance,
sir. And the aged colonel introduced himself: Sir Arthur. Then the man
carefully drew the bowl up and smelt the contents. He said: Well,
lieutenant. This is not a performance, but a mystery. There was a session
of the Teutonic order knights. There is blood mixed with wine in the bowl,
the Saint Grail.

Since very beginning, philosophy of the Nazi Reichs top was based upon a
magically irrational, occult basis. And the sign of swastika was a symbol that
Nazis borrowed from the old cultures and further re- interpreted with
the great aspirations of the Third Reich. In the Ancient Egypt and in
Babylon the image known as Nazi swastika embodied solar energy; it was
connected with the female generating principle. In the Ancient India it
was an emblem of the Hinduism gods of Vishnu, Ganesha, Shiva, Brahma,
Agni, Surya; in Greece the emblem of the gods of Zeus, Helios, Hera and
Artemis; in Scandinavia of the high god of Thor; and in the early Christian
catacomb church the emblem of Jesus Christ. Thousands of years ago the
sign could be seen everywhere, but never before Hitler it was interpreted
as a division of mankind into Aryans and all the rest who mustnt live on the
Earth.

Everything was more or less clear to experienced intelligence officer Sir
Arthur. Everything with one exception: how the knife with a bronze
dragon-shaped handle appeared in the center of Paris. That was a
Japanese knife meant for hara-kiri.

And Sir Arthur recollected an old story. At the end of the 1930s, right
before beginning of WWII, he was working in the British Embassy in Tokyo
and during some official reception he met some Hausshofer, a colleague
from the German Embassy. Relations between Britain and Germany were
already rather tense at that period, however, this very fact made for
particular interest of the intelligence officers to each other.

As it turned out, Hausshofer wonderfully spoke Japanese, was an expert in
history and traditions of Japan; besides, it was rather strange but the man
was a member of the Green Dragon society. This secret and strictly
conspiratorial organization consisted of influential Japanese politicians,
those who were extremely inimical to the West. Why did they admit a
European? Probably, the English intelligence officer understood it was
because the ideology of Samurai traditions have something in common with
Hitlers occult ideas.

Sir Arthur immediately inquired London for a complete dossier on the
German colleague. In the years of WWI Karl Hausshofer was the youngest
general in the Kaiser army and was famous for his foresight talent. It was
said that he mentioned exactly not only the moment of a forthcoming
attack, but even the place where a shell was to fall. After the war, the
general became a scientist, professor of the Munich University specializing
in the Far East problems. Then Hausshofer suddenly abandoned the chair,
took a great interest in magic, occultism, and was one of the two founders
of the Thule society. Dietrich Eckart, one more admirer of occultism, was
the second founder of the society; the man was an unknown playwright
and poet, Hausshofers brother-officer in the Western front. The legend
about Thule was in the origins of German and Scandinavian legends saying
that the island, like Atlantis, used to be the center of a magician
civilization. Members of the Thule society (by the way it was not less caste
than the Green Dragon society) believed that a strong medium could
establish connection with the lost civilization. In the early 1920s, some
Adolph Hitler was picked out as a candidate to the role of the medium.
Probably, aristocratic members of the society were attracted by the
readiness of this hysterical plebeian to earn popularity practically on
everything, and his psychical unbalance and excitability were just a
reverse side of a medium talent. It is significant that members of the
society appointed the first

Turks: Yes vote on U.S. troops unlikely

By Derk Kinnane Roelofsma
United Press International
From the International Desk
Published 3/6/2003 2:25 PM

A reversal of the Turkish parliament's shock vote refusing to allow U.S.
troops in Turkey seems unlikely at least in
the immediate future, which could seriously damage U.S.-Turkish relations,
senior Turkish officials told United Press International.

First, the Turks were holding a by-election Sunday that was expected to
open the way for the leader of the ruling Justice and Development Party,
or AKP, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to take over as prime minister in place of
his party ally Abdullah Gul.

Erdogan was previously barred from being a member of the Turkish
parliament because of charges of Islamist sedition.

Erdogan's election is considered a virtual certainty barring a major upset.
He has said that following the election the government would consider
voting again on a draft U.S.-Turkish agreement that would allow the Bush
administration to open a northern front in Iraq in the event of a U.S.-led
attack on Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

But Turkish officials, speaking to UPI on condition they not be named, said
that if Erdogan is elected he would need more than a week to form a new
Cabinet and gain parliamentary approval for his government.

By then the U.S. cargo ships now waiting off the Turkish coast to unload
tanks and military equipment destined for use in an eventual U.S.-led war
against Iraq may have had to sail for another destination.

On Saturday, the Turkish parliament narrowly failed to approve a
resolution authorizing U.S. troops to pass through Turkey in order to open
a northern front in any war against Iraq. The motion would also have
authorized Turkish troops to be deployed in Northern Iraq in the event of
a conflict.

The officials attributed the no vote to several factors. For one thing,
more than 90 AKP deputies either voted no, abstained, or stayed away
from parliament altogether.

But they added that the United States had made the job of the
government much harder by forcing the pace. We very much got the
impression that the military timetable was dictating the pace of political
and diplomatic events, one said, adding, the rush made things much
harder.

U.S. military planners have said troops passing through Turkey could launch
a northern front in Iraq if, as widely expected, the United States goes to
war to topple Saddam. The front would compliment others in the south
and west of Iraq, reducing the number of casualties, and possibly
shortening the war.

In the event of another no vote, senior members of the Bush
administration have said the war would have to be fought without Turkish
help and a without a northern front.

In hard bargaining, Washington and Ankara hammered out an elaborate
agreement covering military, political and economic issues. There have
been varying reports on what economic aid the agreement provided, but,
the officials said, it would provide grants of $4 billion for non-military
purposes and $2 billion for military ones.

There was provision for a bridging loan of $8.5 billion and trade
concessions, including on textiles.

Whether Erdogan would call for another vote remains to be seen.
Wednesday's declaration by the Turkish military calling for support of the
American offensive could increase votes for the resolution. The Turkish
armed forces are one of the nation's most trusted institutions.

The Turkish military has a specific interest in the agreement because it
authorized Turkish troops to be sent to the Kurdish areas of Iraq -- the
same area into which the Pentagon wants to move troops on their way to
Baghdad.

Turkish forces would help control the flow of thousands of Kurds and
other Iraqi refugees fleeing the war. During the 1991 Gulf War half a million
tried to swarm over the Turkish border.

Another task for the Turkish army, the officials said, would be to protect
the rights of the Iraqi Turkomans, ethnically related to the Anatolian
Turks. Ankara wants the Turkomans be recognized as an official ethnic
minority in Iraq, along with Kurds, Arabs and Assyrians, with an equal say in
the country's affairs.

Indeed, another factor that contributed to the government's defeat in
parliament, the officials said, was the failure of the U.S.-backed Iraqi
opposition to include any ethnic Turkomans on the committee they
established to be a nascent government, just one day before the vote.

As the officials tell it, the Turkomans inhabit a belt of territory that runs
from the northwest Iraqi border with Turkey to the southwest frontier
with Iran and is populated by 2 million to 3 million Turkomans.

Western authorities on the region, however, see the Turkomans as
inhabiting towns and villages that are mostly not contiguous and numbering
probably something about 350,00 people.

The Turks want to make sure that Iraqi Kurds will not take

What You Should Know About War and the Economy

by Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr.

There's something about the prospect of an interview that focuses the
mind. I write as I prepare to leave for an extended interview with Bill
Moyers for PBS. He wants to know how it is possible to be against this war,
and the policies of the Bush administration, and also be for a free and
globally engaged commercial republic. To put it more crudely, how can we
make sense of the phenomenon of right-wing anti-war theory and practice?

Behind the query is the longstanding canard that war is good for the
economy. If what you care about is a prosperous economy, why wouldn't it
make sense to spend hundreds of billions on huge industrial products like
military planes and tanks? Why not employ hundreds of thousands in a
great public-works program like war? Why not destroy a country so that
money can funnel to American companies in charge of rebuilding it?
Doesn't all of this help us out of the recession?

All these questions somehow come back to Bastiat's Broken Window
fallacy. In the story, a boy throws a rock through a window. Regrets for
this act of destruction are all around. But then a confused intellectual
pops up to explain that this is a good thing after all. The window will have
to be fixed, which gives business to the glazier, who will use it to buy a
suit, helping the tailor, and so on. Where's the fallacy? It comes down to
focusing on the seen (the new spending) as versus the unseen (what might
have been done with the resources had they not had to be diverted to
window repair).

Let us never forget that the military is the largest single government
bureaucracy. It produces nothing. It only consumes resources which it
takes from taxpayers by force of law. Making matters worse, all these
resources are directed toward the building and maintenance of weapons
of mass destruction and those who will operate them. The military machine
is the boy with the rock writ large. It does not create wealth. It diverts it
from more productive uses.

How big is the US military? It is by far the largest and most potentially
destructive in the history of the world. The US this year will spend in
excess of $400 billion (not including much spy spending). The next largest
spender is Russia, which spends only 14% of the US total. To equal US
spending, the military budgets of the next 27 highest spenders have to be
added together. If you consider this, and also consider the disparity of the
US nuclear stockpile and the 120 countries in which the US keeps its
troops, you begin to see why the US is so widely regarded as an imperialist
power and a threat to world peace.

This is very hard for Americans to understand. We tend to think of the
American nation as a mere extension of our own lives. We all work hard.
We mind our own business. We tend to our families and involve ourselves in
local civic activities. We love our history and are proud of our founding.
We are pleased by our prosperity (even if we don't know why it exists). We
think most other Americans live the way we do. We tend to think our
government (if we think about it at all) is nothing but an extension of this
way of life.

A deadly military empire? Don't be ridiculous. The military is just defending
the country. Bush is a potential tyrant? Get real! He's a good man. Those
crazy foreigners who resent the US are really no better than those people
who attacked us on September 11, 2001: they envy our wealth and hate us
for our goodness. We are a godly people, which makes our enemies
ungodly, even demonic. This is a short summary of a widely held view, one
that those who seek a government-dominated society use to build their
public-sector empire.

What most Americans refuse to face is that what the government does day
to day, and in particular its military arm, is not an extension of the way the
rest of us live. Government knows only one mode of operation: coercion.
It does not cooperate; it coerces. Because it is constantly overriding
human choices, it makes unrelenting error, most often producing
consequences opposite of the stated intention. This is no less true in its
foreign operations than it is in its domestic ones.

Consider the most recent military action in Afghanistan. The Taliban was
nothing but a reincarnation of the opposition tribes the US supported
when the country was being run by the Soviets in the 1980s. Back then we
called them freedom fighters. When the Taliban fled the capital city last
year, the US knew where to look for them because the US assisted in
building their hideouts during the last war.

What did the war do to the country? All hoopla aside, it is no freer, no
more democratic, and no more prosperous. The warlords are running the
country and women are still subject to fundamentalist Islamic dictate. How
many civilians did the US kill? Thousands, perhaps many thousands. During
the war, every

Total Business
AwarenessThe Corporate Contracting Behind John Poindexter’s Total
Information Awareness Program
By Adam
Mayle and Alex Knott

The Total Information Awareness System, the controversial Pentagon
research program that aims to gather and analyze a vast array of
information on people in the United States, has hired at least eight
private companies to work on the effort. Since 1997, those companies have
won contracts from the Defense Department agency that oversees the program
  worth $88 million.
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), which oversees
the Total Information Awareness System (TIA), awarded 13 contracts to Booz
Allen Hamilton amounting to more than $23 million. Lockheed Martin
Corporation had 23 contracts worth $27 million. The Schafer Corporation
had nine contracts totaling $15 million. Other prominent contractors
involved in the TIA program include SRS Technologies, Adroit Systems, CACI
Dynamic Systems, Syntek Technologies and ASI Systems International.
TIA itself was first proposed by an employee of a private contractor.
John Poindexter, who worked on DARPA projects for Syntek, an Arlington,
Virginia-based technical and engineering services firm, suggested the
program in the wake of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Poindexter, who headed the National Security Council during the Reagan
administration, was convicted in 1990 on five felony counts for his role
in the Iran-Contra scandal. The convictions were overturned in 1991
because he had been given immunity for his testimony during the
Congressional investigation of the affair. On January 14, 2002, he
returned to the government as the director of the Information Awareness
  Office (IAO).
TIA draws heavily on the private sector. Five of the eight contractors
identified by the Center are involved in evaluating future contracts for
the program. Grey Burkhart, an associate of Booz Allen Hamilton,
identifies himself on his resumÈ as "assistant project manager" of TIA
system implementation. Even the phrase "Total Information Awareness" has a
private pedigree -- Visual Analytics, Inc., a Poolesville, Maryland-based
software developer and DARPA contractor, has applied for a trademark for
  the phrase.
In addition, at least 24 universities have received almost $10 million
during the last five years to do research on TIA-related projects. Some of
the largest grants went to Cornell University, Columbia University and the
University of California, Berkeley and dealt with the TIA's language
translation program, Translingual Information Detection, Extraction and
  Summarization.
"DARPA doesn't do any of its own research," says Jan Walker, a
spokesperson for the agency. She also says that DARPA doesn't require
private contractors to share their research solely with DARPA. "The
government benefits when there are commercial applications [from DARPA
research] because it keeps the cost down," she says. Any limitations on
commercial use are negotiated "on a case by case basis," she says, adding
that, "many of the things DARPA does have commercial applications."
DARPA employs 240 people and oversees a budget of roughly $2 billion.
It relies heavily on outside contractors. Some act as "systems engineering
technical assistance," or SETA contractors, who assist DARPA in managing
the efforts and representing the program with Congress, the Department of
Defense hierarchy and the military services. Typical projects involve five
to 10 contractors, two universities, and budgets between $10 and $40
million. DARPA's website notes that the best program managers -- the
agency's employees who oversee the contractors -- "have always been
freewheeling zealots in pursuit of their goals."
A lack of oversight Congress, which exercises oversight of
the executive branch and the military, has not held a single public
hearing on TIA and sources on the Hill suggest that members know little
about it. In a November 22, 2002 letter, Senator Charles E. Grassley,
R-Iowa, asked the inspector general of the Defense Department to "conduct
a complete and thorough review of the TIA program." Noting that available
information regarding TIA was not sufficient, Grassley wrote that the
Defense Department's comments about DARPA "only provide few answers and
  invite many more questions."
  Grassley questioned the

Time for Sanctions Against the Bush Administration

Boycott America?

By WAYNE MADSEN

The international political system has a method for dealing with regimes
that flout the United Nations Charter -- sanctions. Sanctions come in
different flavors. Sanctions like economic boycotts have teeth, others like
travel bans are more symbolic but are more easily imposed and relatively
effective. It is time for the United Nations and its individual members to
consider political and other sanctions against the Bush administration.
After all, other countries and regimes that have snubbed their noses at
international norms of behavior have been on the receiving end of
sanctions. The United States heartily supported such measures against
regimes in South Africa, Rhodesia, Iran, Iraq, Burma, Libya, Zimbabwe,
Yugoslavia, North Korea, Taliban-run Afghanistan, Pakistan, India,
Azerbaijan, Angola's UNITA, Cuba, and Sudan.

But now it is the United States, governed by a coterie of war hawks, which
threatens international order and stability. The Bush administration is
threatening to bombard Iraq with a volley of bombs and missiles that will
shock and awe the Iraqis into surrendering.

The Bush administration is severely in need of a demonstration of
international will that will shock and awe Washington back into some
semblance of rationality and sanity. That can best be done by imposing
wide sweeping political sanctions on the Bush administration. By targeting
the Bush administration and not the general American public, the
international community can put key members of the Bush administration
on notice that their behavior has consequences, even for officials of the
world's only remaining superpower.

The concept of international sanctions against the Bush administration are
nothing new. The idea was first floated by the European Union in March
2001 when the United States pulled out of the Kyoto Protocol on
greenhouse gas emissions. EU Environment Commissioner Margot Wallstrom,
while saying trade sanctions against the United States were premature,
warned of other broad implications stemming from America's withdrawal
from the treaty.

The international community should begin with a ban on visits by the top
U.S. political leaders who support flouting the United Nations and other
regional international organizations. For starters, the list of Americans who
could be refused visas, including transit visas, might include Donald
Rumsfeld, his top deputies - Paul Wolfowitz, Doug Feith, Dov Zakheim, and
Peter Rodman, Vice President Cheney's chief of staff Lewis Scooter
Libby, Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International
Strategy John Bolton and his deputy David Wurmser, National Security
Adviser Condoleezza Rice, her assistants Elliott Abrams and Otto Reich and
consultant Michael Ledeen, Attorney General John Ashcroft, and UN
ambassador John Negroponte.

The travel ban should also be extended to such key administration advisers
and propagandists as Defense Policy Board (DPB) chairman Richard Perle,
Center for Security Policy director Frank Gaffney, Weekly Standard editor
William Kristol, America's ayatollah of morality William Bennett, former CIA
Director James Woolsey, and DPB members Kenneth Adelman and Newt
Gingrich.

The European Union has already imposed such a travel ban on 72 officials
of Zimbabwe's government. The United States also imposed a travel ban on
President Robert Mugabe and 19 of his top officials. The UN Security
Council has imposed travel bans on Iraqi's top military leaders and top
leaders of Angola's UNITA rebel movement. Travel restrictions were also
imposed by the Clinton administration on Burma's military leadership and
their families from visiting the United States.

In addition to the European Union and national governments imposing a
travel ban on top Bush administration officials, national, regional, and
municipal legislatures could also pass symbolic resolutions stating that key
members and supporters of the Bush administration are not welcome to
visit their countries, provinces, and cities. What would be more valuable
for the court of public opinion than a city mayor or a regional leader
informing a visiting Bush administration official or political loyalist that he
or she is not officially welcome by the host government? That sort of bad
press is every public relations person's worst nightmare. It is a tactic worth
seriously considering.

Travel bans or unwelcome resolutions could also be extended to
members of the U.S. Congress who stand in lockstep with the Bush
administration. Considering the number of overseas congressional junkets
that take place on an almost weekly basis, it would not be long before
GOP loyalists and their Democratic quislings would begin to realize what
their administration has wrought in severely damaging U.S. relations with
the rest of the world.

Another sanction option could be

Satire or anti-Semitism? Looking at Goya

'Exactly as Goya does, Brown accuses a political leader of sacrificing his
own children'

Philip Hensher

31 January 2003

Amid the considerable volume of protest and complaint stirred up by Dave
Brown's cartoon of Ariel Sharon, there may be discerned some genuine
offence rather than lobbying, and it would be wrong to discount that. The
image suggests that Sharon is murdering children as part of his election
campaign, an accusation that is likely to awaken not just disagreement,
but distress. Nevertheless, it may be worth trying to read the cartoon
simply as an image, to see if its context and means provide any explanation
of so gross an insult.

The image is based on a painting by Goya, the late Saturn Devouring One of
His Sons of 1819- 23. It is a mythological scene of horrible violence, but in
itself it carries a specific political charge. It has always been read as a
comment on internecine war, a pendant to the Disasters of War series.
The implication of the image is that political rulers are murdering the poor,
for whom they ought to bear a parental responsibility. The basis of Brown's
image is no less deliberately offensive than his use of it.

The ironic variation of a work of high art is a long- established practice of
English satirical art. Hogarth and Gillray routinely parodied old masters and
contemporary academic art to make an unexpected point. In this case,
however, it is less an ironic variation of an original than a simple
restatement. Like Goya, Brown accuses a political leader of sacrificing his
own children.

I think we can start to see a real, substantial point to Brown's argument.
The image refuses to accept, as many of the protesters assert, that the
Palestinians are not Sharon's responsibility; he is Saturn, devouring his own
children. It cuts across the idea of Sharon's people against Arafat's
people and shockingly maintains that the Palestinians are not primarily
Sharon's enemies, but his children.

The central plank of the attack on the image is the accusation that it is
actively anti-Semitic. That is a difficult question to address, because the
history of the caricature of Jewish people is substantially one of anti-
Semitism, but it should not, per se, be impossible to produce a caricature
of any Jewish person without resorting to anti-Semitic stereotypes. The
history of anti-Semitic caricature makes it improper, for instance, to
exaggerate the size of a subject's nose, and yet that is one of the standard
practices of caricature.

What is apparent to me is that the accusation made by the cartoon,
though severe, is one that ought to be within the means of graphic satire.
Similar pictures were produced of Mrs Thatcher in her prime. Critics of
the image should ask themselves, above all, not whether they agree with
it, but how this accusation would be made, with the same legitimate force,
by a cartoonist with no anti-Semitic prejudices; because, surely, everyone
must concede that criticism of a specific policy of a specific Israeli
government need not proceed from racial prejudice. I think the answer is
that it would look very much as the cartoon actually does.

America pulls the rug from under Turkey
By Roland Watson and Richard Beeston

THE US House of Representatives thinks that Pakistani rug-makers
are more deserving of American aid than Turkish rug-makers. Without
ceremony, Turkey was removed from the list of beneficiaries in a trade Bill
before it was passed on Wednesday, an act of legislative sabotage that lifts
the lid on the furious horse-trading surrounding the build-up to war with
Iraq.

The bazaar economics which lavished up to $500,000 (312,000) of aid on
Pakistan, but denied Turkey a cent, has nothing to do with textiles and
everything to do with rounding up both into President Bushs coalition of
the willing. Not for nothing has the group been dubbed the coalition of
the billing.

Pakistan has one of six crucial votes on the UN Security Council that
America, Britain and Spain on one side, and France, Russia and Germany on
the other, are furiously courting. Pakistan, along with Chile, Mexico,
Guinea, Cameroon and Angola, controls the fate of a second resolution.

Turkey is a case on its own, holding the key to the Pentagons preferred
war plan for a northern front against Iraq. Denying Turkish rug-makers any
help is designed as an immediate slap for Ankaras decision not to allow
60,000 US troops on to its soil, and a warning of more to come if the
Turkish parliament does not rethink its stance soon.

It is the Russians, however, with their multibillion-dollar trade agreements
with Iraq, who stand to lose the most. A senior American diplomat in
Moscow gave warning that the Kremlin could jeopardise its relations with
any future US-installed government in Baghdad if it was seen to stand by
Saddams regime in its final days.

The Russians understand that their degree of involvement in post- Saddam
arrangements will be significantly influenced by the degree to which they
are seen as supporting, or not obstructing, on a resolution to the crisis,
he said. I think they understand there could be negative consequences
of a veto with respect to Russias interests (in Iraq).

He added that Russias bid to join the World Trade Organisation and other
interests could be damaged in the short term if it voted against the
motion on Iraq.

Around the rest of the Security Council table, America is wielding a
mixture of carrots and sticks as it tries to round up the nine votes it needs
for a majority. Chile is waiting for Congress to approve a lucrative free-
trade deal with the US that is the result of a decade of negotiation. The
decision this spring could hinge on which way it swings on Iraq.

Mexico is pursuing tariff negotiations with the US, while Bulgaria, which is
a solid Security Council voice against Iraq, is optimistic about being
granted the status of a market economy, a decision which would provide
a huge boost domestically. Cameroon and Guinea are both eligible for
preferential access to US markets through the Africa Growth and
Opportunity Act, but only if they refrain from engaging in activities that
undermine US national security or foreign policy interests.

The message seems to be getting through. Guinea, one of the poorest
countries in the world, which is chairman of the Security Council this
month, has signalled that it will bow to Washingtons pressure. Although its
opinions on foreign policy are usually ignored, there was quiet celebration
in London and Washington when the Guinean Cabinet, meeting in the
capital, Conakry, insisted that Iraq conform scrupulously to its UN
obligations.

Angola, the former Marxist state, is also expected to join the Anglo-
American position, largely because of its strong trading links with America,
which imports most of the countrys offshore oil.

Only Cameroon is thought to favour the position taken by France, its
former colonial master. Nevertheless, envoys from America and Britain have
recently visited the country and Mr Bush intervened personally on
Wednesday by lobbying the countrys leader in a telephone call.

Pakistan, Americas key ally in the war in Afghanistan and the struggle to
track down al-Qaeda chiefs, has recently received a loan from the
International Monetary Fund, thanks in large part to American support. But
it is due to receive a further $305 million in direct US aid later this year,
which may never appear if it opposes America at the Security Council.

The US also wants to show that going against Washington can provoke
penalties. Earlier this week the Pentagon announced plans to move
thousands of US troops from Germany to Eastern Europe, where support
for Washington has been much stronger. Nikolai Svinarov, the Bulgarian
Defence Minister, announced after a visit to Washington that his country
might provide four or five bases for relocated US troops.

A long-running Washington tradition apparently ended last night when,
for the first time in memory, the doyenne of the White House press corps

Syndicated columnist Helen Thomas, who has covered every president
since John F. Kennedy, was relegated to the third row in last night's East
Room event and if the memory of press corps veterans is accurate
received her first presidential snub.

I'm certainly not surprised. No one has ever accused our president of having good manners. In fact if he were not in possession of so much wealth and power, he would probably be noted as a positive boor. There's certainly not anything about him that would make a mother proud. Well, except for Barbara Bush, I guess, who is used to that kind of person. Prudy

Settlers offer West Bank 'terror tours'

See Also: ISRAEL: A QUIZ
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article1910.htm

Jewish settlers are offering special terror tours of the West Bank and
Gaza, in which tourists will be trained to fire weapons and participate in
mock fights with Arab militants.

The four-day excursion will include aerial tours of terrorist enclaves and
a chance to sit in the cockpit of a fighter-plane capable of delivering
nuclear bombs.

There's a lot of the 'wow' factor, like going up in an army helicopter and
firing machine guns, organiser Jake Greenwald told BBC News Online, but
it is also aimed at training people in how to deal with a terrorist situation.

Mr Greenwald said it was also a way of attracting thrill-seekers to Israel at
a time when tourism is suffering because of the violence with the
Palestinians.

Fear factor

US-born Mr Greenwald said he got the idea after seeing how people coped
with the 11 September, 2001, attacks on the United States.

ITINERARY

Weapons training
Tracking 'terrorists' in desert
Aerial tour of 'terrorist enclaves'
Experience of F-16 bombers and tanks
Paintball attack on 'Arab village'
I realised that Israel, which has great expertise in dealing with terror, will
be able to teach people how to deal with fear, so there is not this mass
panic when something happens, he said.

He said that while people might think the tour was a bit strange, there
was a serious message in teaching teamwork in the face of an emergency.

He said so far more than 20 people - including a judge, doctors, and a
Middle East lecturer - have signed up from the United States, at a cost of
$5,500 each.

Tracking 'terrorists'

For the participants, daily activities begin with what Mr Greenwald called
light exercises in hand-to-hand combat.

Tourists will also be taught how to fire a range of weapons, including M16s,
Uzis, pistols and Kalashnikov machine guns, and learn how to operate a
tank.

There will be talks by Israelis who took part in Israel's military offensive in
Jenin last April, and lessons in how to track terrorists across the desert.

Participants will be taken on a helicopter tour of Palestinian terrorist
enclaves and be shown arms and suicide bomber belts seized by the Israeli
army.

The highlight of the trip involves a paintball fight in a simulated Arab village,
where participants will be able to go from room-to-room cleaning out Arab
terrorists, said Mr Greenwald.

The tours were meant to start at the end of this month, but have been
postponed because of the prospect of a war with Iraq.

[CTRL] Consequences for BB for Defying UN ?

BLAIR: I'LL DEFY TRIPLE UN WAR VETO

By Paul Gilfeather Whitehall Editor

TONY Blair dramatically announced yesterday Britain would join a war on
Iraq even if Russia, France and China vetoed military action.

His decision was branded appalling by his own MPs who said it spelt
political suicide and shattered the credibility of the UN.

FACE TO FACE: Mr Blair faces MTV forum in London
yesterday where he came under intense grilling over his war plans

Mr Blair has previously said Britain would only attack without UN backing if
ONE of the five permanent Security Council members wielded a veto
unreasonably.

But yesterday he signalled that even THREE vetoes would not derail the
British and US war machine.

Asked if he would press ahead with war without a new UN resolution, he
said: If there was a veto applied by one of the countries with a veto, or
by countries that I thought were applying the veto unreasonably, then in
those circumstances I would.

The development came as chief UN weapons inspector Hans Blix prepared
for today's report to the Security Council and Britain haggled with doves
over the wording of a second resolution.

The US wants the resolution to give the go-ahead for war.

Labour MPs, who gave Mr Blair a bloody nose in a Commons revolt last
week, could barely contain their fury.

Senior backbencher Dr Ian Gibson said: Having won plaudits for taking the
UN route, Mr Blair has now decided to reject any Security Council verdict
that does not suit his timetable for conflict.

If he does this while defying three permanent members of the Security
Council he'd commit political suicide.

It absolutely shatters the credibility of the UN.

Fellow backbencher Malcolm Savidge added: I find this appalling and
disturbing.

The Prime Minister keeps changing the rules for starting war with Iraq. He
seems to have already decided that an invasion will happen.

Lib-Dem leader Charles Kennedy asked Mr Blair what he meant by
unreasonable. He said: If Dr Blix believes progress can be made on
disarming Saddam, a veto to allow weapons inspectors more time could
scarcely be described as unreasonable.

Downing Street refused to comment on the Government's revised position.

Mr Blair's spokesman said: He was not signalling any change in his belief
that the second resolution will be passed. Nothing has changed.

The Premier made his defiant announcement while facing 40 young people
from 24 countries at an MTV forum in London to be screened to homes
worldwide tonight.

Admitting war was not the first answer, he said 300,000 troops sent to
the Gulf could not be there indefinitely.

He said: We can't wait for ever. If we don't act now we'll go back to what
has happened before and then, of course, the whole thing begins again.

I think it's right that the UN now makes it clear that if Saddam is not
prepared to disarm peacefully then he will have to be disarmed by force.

In a tense confrontation, Mr Blair said war could still be avoided if Saddam
fled.

He said: I'd be prepared to accept a situation where Saddam and his
immediate entourage went into exile.

Mr Blair dismissed claims that Britain and the US wanted war to seize
control of Iraq's oil. He declared: It's nothing to do with oil.

Raising the idea of Iraq's reserves being put under UN control, he added:
We should make sure that in any post-conflict Iraq oil goes into a trust
fund. We don't touch it, and the Americans don't touch it without UN
authority.

Iraqi Ammar Hassan, 23, who is now living in Britain, praised Mr Blair's
stance on Iraq, saying: I'd like you to remove Saddam.

But he said later: I want to make it clear that I'm against war. I only hope
Mr Blair's motives are sincere.

Aussie city wants to 'defect' to France

An Australian city wants to defect to France in protest at their
Government's stance on Iraq.

Wollongong in New South Wales is to make an appeal to the Consul General
of France.

Local politicians have joined forces with unions and employers to make the
stand.

South Coast Labour Council secretary Arthur Rorris, said: If the Australian
government won't represent the interests of Australians, how embarrassing
will it be if we go to another government and say 'our government won't
represent us, will you?'

A Wollongong delegation, including Lord Mayor Alex Darling, will approach
the Consul General of France in Sydney next Tuesday, reports the
news.com website.

TURKEY
Military backs US plan for troop deployment

http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/065/nation/Military_backs_US_plan_fo
r_troop_deployment+.shtml

By Louis Meixler, Associated Press, 3/6/2003

ANKARA - Turkey's powerful military said yesterday it supported letting in
US troops for a war in neighboring Iraq, boosting pressure on legislators to
reconsider their rejection of a measure allowing the American
deployment.

The comments from General Hilmi Ozkok, the nation's top officer, came a
day after Turkey's top political leader, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, indicated
that the government plans to reintroduce a new troop deployment
resolution.

The two men are widely considered the most influential leaders in Turkey.
The military is the most respected institution in the country and has led
three coups since 1960.

Their statements appeared to have an immediate impact on parliament,
where the resolution failed Saturday by just three votes.

''The conditions are changing fast,'' said Dengir Mir Mehmet Firat, a deputy
chairman of the governing Justice and Development Party. ''Many
legislators are saying that they will cast a positive vote if the motion is
brought to parliament again.''

Washington has offered Turkey a $15 billion aid package if parliament
approves the deployment of 62,000 troops. It wants the deployment so
that the US military can develop a powerful northern front against Saddam
Hussein.

In his remarks, Ozkok said a war would be ''shorter, there would be less
pain'' if the country backed Washington.

Ozkok said the military respected parliament's rejection of the resolution.
But he appeared to urge parliament to reconsider, stating that if Turkey
did not support the United States, Ankara would have no say in Iraq's
future.

Many deputies said they voted against the resolution despite the Cabinet's
endorsement because public support is overwhelmingly against an Iraq war,
with polls showing that up to 94 percent of Turks oppose a war.

Ozkok directly addressed that concern.

''They say 94 percent are against war,'' he said. ''It is wrong. One hundred
percent of the public is against a war.''

But, he said, if Turkey allows in American troops ''the war would be
shorter, there would be less pain... fewer people will die.''

''Turkey is not capable of preventing the war on its own. Our choice isn't
between good and bad. Our choice is between bad and worse,'' Ozkok
said.

Turks fear a war could derail the country's fragile economic recovery, and
the potential loss of the $15 billion aid package is also pushing legislators
to reconsider.

What we have playing at 'The World Stage Theater' this week is a classic good cop-bad cop routine, with W playing the role'badly,' I may sayto 'coerce' the unwillingness of many towards the UN.

There will be no war.

Bush wins big time and assures re-elect. So he eats some humble pie, it will play well and win many.
Remember these same folks already won a war in the Mid-east and didn't get re-elected. Bush gets to play savior, oil price goes down. His enemies saying its all about oil or other imperialistic cries flame.

[CTRL] GM OnStar

2003-03-07 Thread Mike Smith
-Caveat Lector-

I was just listening to the local talk (fraud) radio a few minutes ago when
I heard a commerical that used a recorded conversation between a GM car
owner who'd locked himself out of the car in the middle of nowhere, and an
OnStar rep. The OnStar rep does whatever on the computer and opens the door
for the car owner who is very greatful.

Now while this certainly puts a positive spin on having a GPS tracking
device in your car, it also make me wonder if they also have the ability to
shut a car's engine off with no manual override. The positive spin being
it deters car theft and high speed chases should police call Onstar.

What I'm really wondering is If there's a suitcase nuke or bioterror
somewhere in N.A. and for our safety the feds want to lock down cities,
could OnStar be used to shut down whole columns of fleeing traffic trapping
millions on freeways for convenient round up? Could this have been palnned
into it from day 1?

Fla. Officials Warn of Bacteria Outbreak

March 7, 2003, 8:31 AM EST

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Health official warned of extensive bacteria
outbreaks at five South Florida beaches popular with spring break crowds.

The bacteria can increase the risk to swimmers of developing
gastrointestinal diseases, such as hepatitis A, shigellosis and cholera, which
can cause severe diarrhea and intestinal pain.

High levels of enterococci bacteria were detected Thursday in the water
off two Fort Lauderdale beaches, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Pompano Beach
and Gulf Stream.

Health officials also found high levels of fecal coliform bacteria off
Hollywood and Hallandale Beach. Additional tests were planned Friday to
determine whether warnings should be issued for those beaches as well.

Both types of bacteria are found in human and animal waste, but the state
Health Department does not know what caused the outbreak. One
possible source is sewage from a passing ship, said Tim O'Connor, of the
Palm Beach County Health Department.

The state Health Department regularly tests water quality at popular
beaches and issues warnings for a high bacteria levels a few times a year,
but usually for smaller areas.

I don't think we've ever had this many sites, said Howard Rosen,
environmental administrator for the Broward County Health Department.

Health advisories were also posted for nine miles of beach in Volusia
County, about 200 miles north of Fort Lauderdale. Health officials said they
didn't know if the outbreaks were related.

Superbug breaks out of hospitals
By Robert Uhlig, Technology Correspondent
(Filed: 06/03/2003)

The antibiotic resistant superbug MRSA has broken
out of hospitals, where it infected thousands of patients, and is now
hitting healthy people.

The bacterium - methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus - has long
been a serious problem in hospitals and nursing homes, spreading by
entering the wounds of patients weakened by disease or injury. It is
especially dangerous after surgery.

Now a new strain has emerged that can be transmitted simply by skin
contact, posing a risk to healthy people. It is infecting thousands across
America and may have reached Europe, New Scientist reports.

In Los Angeles, there have been scores of infections among homosexual
men, said the Los Angeles county health department. Some 35 children in
the city have been admitted to hospital and an outbreak in the county jail
has so far infected almost 1,000 inmates, with 66 needing hospital
treatment.

The Centres for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia, said the strain, spread
like wildfire in crowded prisons. Although most of the infected are
homosexual men, the superbug has claimed athletes, children and
newborn infants as victims.

they won't.)

If the war go forwards Bush loses, what we see is what is presented. It is classic. The magic always talks while he pulls his sleight of hand. What is the goal? World control. Where is that arena been being developed for many years?

They play us all in the game, they understand that. They been playing along time.

Yes, many folks emotions are real and what they/we believe is real -- to us/them. The good/bad cop routine is the only scenario that puts in to place all the differing various odd things about the "story." This gives reasoning behind the "potshots" at the prexy by his crowd and allows the widest destruction of "enemies" at home and then allows for the continued ratcheting up of population control under terrorism and he can now go bully others, because as most of the world has been directed to say hey, inspections work and the UN did it. Lays down many different precedence. War makes no difference and can continue to work on the split that the threat of war develops.

No, their ain't gonna be war this time, except the continued psy-war on us hoi polloi,

Bush has already lost. Resorting to violence on a domestic or international
level is imprudent. Even in the home, moderation and mediation is the
rule. Drunk on joy-juice or on power doesn't give any one an excuse to
resort to unreasonable force to solve any problems.

Shrub's got a real problem IF he doesn't follow through: he's got about a
million or so voters who represent the only audience in front of whom he
can give one of his pep talks. Compare any talk of his at any base and the
talk at the AEI or last night's puppet walk. Add dependents and relatives
and friends and that number goes WA up. Hurry up and wait! may
be the military's motto but I've seen people who've spent time in the sand
box and there wasn't a whole lot of excitement about the experience. To
go for no reason results in a gripe or two. CNN wasn't everywhere.
Compound this with all the $$$ that have gone into this adventure and
should he go or not go, it's $$$ down the drain while the domestic
economy is suffering. They may have planned this little escapade while
the economy was hot back in 1998 and now the utilities have been cut off.

He's lost the element of surprise -- nationally and internationally. If this
had been done on Oct 11th, 2001, who'd have gotten excited? Plus, I tend
to agree with the person who pointed out that to go counter to the UN at
this point puts BB in the same bed with SH (and one of HIS near west
neighbours), all of whom could be found to be in material breech of the
UN. But like one of his pals, who gives a shit about the UN as long as
there's a lot of pork on the negotiating table?

Not wanting to seem to be disagreeable but I think he's realised that he's
shot his wad and HE (like SH) has little more to lose at this point.

I see your point ... it's something like signing up for the TANG then, at
some critical moment when a person might be reassigned to a real fighting
fighter aircraft, deciding that it's just as well to go do something else ...
this falls into line with my Rebel Without A Cause analogy wherein Jimmy
D loses face by jumping out of the car before it goes cliff-diving but
winning because the chick's boyfriend is the one who got his sleeve

watchers know what really happened) sacrificing his life. Natty Wood

Subject: [U-S-A] Your Mexico Speech re U-S-A Undermining UN

Dear Prime Minister Chretien:

While in Mexico you said that a U-S-A invasion of Iraq would deal a
blow to the UN which will require years to heal. Indeed that is so;
particularly since it is clearly a VIOLATION OF INTERNATIONAL LAW.
According to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural
Rights (I,1-1) All peoples have the right of self-determination. Since
everyone knows that the UN arms inspections are functioning with 100%
success to keep the peace and will continue to do so in the foreseeable
future, nothing else is needed except perhaps saturating Iraq with UN
as General Allaire recently suggested. What then motivates U-S-A?

Fair-minded jurists gauging U-S-A action against I, 1-1 above, would
conclude that it is REGIME CHANGE and even the UK now says that regime
change is not necessary. Thus U-S-A contempt for the peace process is
nothing less than contempt for the UN and particularly I, 1-1 of the
International Covenant. The only new resolution needed at the UN is one
which strengthens UN inspection/detection.

SATURATING IRAQ WITH UN IS THE NECESSARY AND SUFFICIENT CONDITION FOR
PEACE AND STABILITY.

A U-S-A invasion will heap contempt on the UN and trigger a host of
uncertainties which will quite possibly lead to global conflict and
terrorism; in the wording of General Scowcroft, Armageddon at worst. At
best what will ensue is uncertainty which is in effect playing Russian
Roulette with terrorism. There is absolutely no need for this recklessness
and irrespsonsibility. Iraq poses no clear and present danger to
Americans, Canadians or anyone else and the UN presence is 100% effective
in preventing future danger from weapons of mass destruction.

Reuters, 03.06.03, 8:31 PM ET

HOUSTON, March 6 (Reuters) - A Halliburton Co. (nyse: HAL - news - people) subsidiary Kellogg, Brown Root (KBR) has won the contract to oversee any firefighting operations at Iraqi oilfields after any U.S.-led invasion, a Defense Department source said on Thursday.

KBR was widely viewed by many in the oilfield services industry as the likely candidate to oversee firefighting in Iraq's oilfields. Halliburton does extensive logistic support work for the U.S. military.

Vice President Dick Cheney served as Halliburton's chief executive officer from 1995 to 2000,

A possible beneficiary of Thursday's deal is oilwell firefighting company Boots Coots International Well Control Inc., with which Halliburton has had an alliance since 1995.

A Halliburton spokeswoman declined comment and referred all questions to the Defense Department.

[CTRL] Conservatives Against A War With Iraq

2003-03-07 Thread iNFoWaRZ
-Caveat Lector-

Conservatives Against A War With Iraq

In the U.S. House of Representatives on Feb. 26, 2003:

The SPEAKER pro tempore. Under a previous order of the House, the gentleman from
Tennessee (Mr. Duncan) is recognized for 5 minutes.

Mr. DUNCAN. Mr. Speaker, most people do not realize how many conservatives are against
going to war in Iraq.

A strong majority of nationally syndicated conservative columnists have come out
against this war. Just three of the many, many examples I could give include the
following:

Charlie Reese, a staunch conservative, who was elected a couple of years ago as the
favorite columnist of C-SPAN viewers, wrote that a U.S. attack on Iraq ``is a
prescription for the decline and fall of the American empire.''

Paul Craig Roberts, who was one of the highest-ranking Treasury Department officials
under President Reagan and now a nationally syndicated conservative columnist, wrote:
``An invasion of Iraq is likely the most thoughtless action in modern history.''

James Webb, a hero of Vietnam and President Reagan's Secretary of the Navy, wrote:
``The issue before us is not whether the United States should end the regime of Saddam
Hussein, but whether we as a Nation are prepared to occupy territory in the Middle
East for the next 30 to 50 years.''

It is a traditional conservative position, Mr. Speaker, to be against huge deficit
spending.

The Congressional Budget Office estimated that a very short war, followed by a 5-year
occupation of Iraq, would cost the U.S. $272 billion, this on top of an estimated $350
billion deficit for the coming fiscal year.

It is a traditional conservative position to be against the U.S. being the policeman
of the world. That is exactly what we will be doing if we go to war in Iraq.

It is a traditional conservative position to be against world government, because
conservatives believe that government is less wasteful and arrogant when it is small
and closer to the people.

It is a traditional conservative position to be critical of, skeptical about, or even
opposed to the very wasteful, corrupt United Nations; yet the primary justification
for this war, what we hear over and over again, is that Iraq has violated 16 U.N.
resolutions. Well, other nations have violated U.N. resolutions; yet we have not
threatened war against them.

It is a traditional conservative position to believe it is unfair to U.S. taxpayers
and our military to put almost the entire burden of enforcing U.N. resolutions on the
U.S.; yet that is exactly what will happen in a war against Iraq. In fact, it is
already happening, because even if Hussein backs down now, it will have cost us
billions of dollars in war preparations and moving so many of our troops, planes,
ships and equipment to the Middle East.

It is a traditional conservative position to be against huge foreign aid, which has
been almost a complete failure for many years now. Talk about huge foreign aid,
Turkey, according to reports, is demanding 26 to $32 billion; Israel wants 12 to $15
billion; Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia want additional aid in unspecified amounts.

Almost every country that is supporting the U.S. in this war wants something in
return. The cost of all these requests have not been added in to most of the war costs
calculations. All this to fight a bad man who has a total military budget of about
$1.4 billion, less than three-tenths of 1 percent of ours.

The White House said Hussein has less than 40 percent of the weaponry and manpower
that he had at the time of the first Gulf War. One analyst estimated only about 20
percent.

His troops surrendered then to camera crews or even in one case to an empty tank.
Hussein has been weakened further by years of bombing and economic sanctions and
embargoes. He is an evil man, but he is no threat to us; and if this war comes about,
it will probably be one of the shortest and certainly one of the most lopsided wars in
history.

Our own CIA put out a report just a few days before our war resolution vote saying
that Hussein was so weak economically and militarily he was really not capable of
attacking anyone unless forced into it. He really controls very little outside the
city of Baghdad.

The Washington Post 2 days ago had a column which said, ``The war in Iraq, likely in
the next few weeks, is not expected to last long, given the overwhelming U.S. fire
power to be arrayed against the Iraqis. But the trickier job may be in the aftermath.''

Fortune Magazine said, ``Iraq, we win. What then? A military victory could turn into a
strategic defeat . a prolonged, expensive, American-led occupation . could
turn U.S. troops into sitting ducks for Islamic terrorists . All of that could
have immediate and negative consequences for the global economy.''

Not only have most conservative columnists come out strongly against this war, but
also at least four conservative magazines and two conservative think tanks.

GEORGE BUSH MUST BE REPLACED
WHO SHOULD REPLACE HIM

By: Alan Stang

The Communists and their "peace movement" feign opposition to George Bush. The people they call "useful idiots" (Lenin's phrase) really do oppose him, but the Communist leaders support him because he is implementing their perennial goal of totalitarian world government. They pretend to oppose him in order to trick Americans into supporting him, because real Americans naturally shrink from echoing the Communists. Students of the Great Conspiracy call this Communist tactic the "principle of reversal." Students of Br'er Rabbit call it the "don't throw me into the briar patch principle."

Why do real Americans oppose President Bush? The Communists pretend to oppose him for temporary, tactical reasons. We oppose him on the basis of enduring, unchangeable principles. The juxtaposition is merely an accident and should embarrass no one who is firmly grounded in the facts. What are those facts?

President Bush has proven himself unable and/or unwilling to fight the present war for the survival of our nation. Today, the nation is fatally divided on the question of whether the United States should invade Iraq. It is divided because the Bush Administration has not presented sufficient proof that Saddam Hussein participated in the act of war against our people on 9-11. Were that proof presented, the nation would be united behind the war.

The President says he wants the proof. Iraq sent 12,000 pages of documents about its Weapons of Mass Destruction to the UN. The Bush Administration seized those documents and released only 3,000 pages to the general public. Why? Because the thousands of pages the President sequestered prove that it was the United States government and American companies encouraged by the government that sold and even gave those Weapons of Mass Destruction to Iraq in the first place.

Indeed, the reason the President suppressed that information is that it implicates the present Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, in the accumulation of WMD. Rumsfeld went to Baghdad in December, 1983 for the purpose.

In fact, the information the President withheld would also implicate his father, who was Vice President at the time, and actively participated in the policy of arming Iraq. In 1984, Washington allowed Iraq to import supercomputers, machine tools and even the makings of anthrax. The Administration made sure Iraq had the weapons it needed, despite Saddam's use of chemical warfare. The elder Bush personally gave military advice to Saddam and in 1988 called for closer ties to Iraq. After he suppressed all this, the present President Bush blamed Iraq for withholding information.

So, the reason President Bush cannot successfully fight the war is that he is tainted. Were he a judge, or even a juror, he would have to recuse himself. The President won't do that, so we the people must. Notice that we are not necessarily "anti-war." We are in favor of any necessary war to preserve our way of life, but it must be necessary.

The first thing any President should have done after the attack on 9-11 was immediately close our borders, and, if necessary, put troops there for the purpose, while we found out who was whose. President Bush on the contrary has left our borders wide open and the situation is deteriorating. Thousands of young Arab males, from the very countries we suspect in the War on Terror, are being admitted. The Atlanta Journal- Constitution reports that the Bush Administration is importing thousands of Somalis to this country. These are people who not only do not share our culture; they have never seen clocks, telephones or flush toilets. Most important, they come from the country where the bodies of American soldiers were dragged through the streets.

If the rationale of the war is to protect the United States from the danger of Weapons of Mass Destruction, then the war should begin, not in Iraq, halfway around the world, but in Cuba, 90 miles away, where Fidel Castro not only has WMD, but also is one of the world's biggest narcotics dealers, which Saddam Hussein has not even been accused of.

Instead of these elementary policies, what has Bush done? His policies so far prove that, if allowed to serve another term, Bush would complete the destruction of the Bill of Rights and our privacy, producing a totalitarian dictatorship that would make our first King George seem utterly benevolent.

For instance, he has condoned formation of the Total Information Awareness project, via the Pentagon's DARPA agency; TIA, which gives the Pentagon and various intelligence agencies the ability to penetrate the e-mail accounts of every American citizen, via "packet-sniffing" software, clearly violates the 4th Amendment guarantee against "unlawful searches and seizures."

He has failed to rescind the FBI's "Carnivore"project and the National Security Agency's (NSA) "Magic

JEFFERSON'S TORCH:
RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT, 2004

By: Todd  Brendan Fahey

"That government is best, which governs least." - Thomas Jefferson

Were one to have informed our third President--author of the Declaration of Independence, which granted us freedom from a despotic British monarch--that, come 2003, would be faced by the United States citizenry, fully:

- an organization whose end-purpose is to establish World Government, consolidating under central control the various nations' militaries, currencies and body-politic;

- a private banking cartel which, counter to Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution, operates irrespective of Congressional control and, thereby, of the oversight of We The People;

- a system of taxation which penalizes persons for their industriousness, their marital status, their thrift and ingenuity, and which takes from them an additional sum from that which had been left to them, lovingly, by their ancestors, whom had already paid their respective debt;

- the establishment of a branch of government possessing the power to garnish one's earnings and seize one's savings, without due process of law--wherein one is guilty until proven (at great personal expense) as innocent;

- an aggressive propensity of government to pry open the savings accounts, medical records, electronic transmissions (unknown to the Founders, albeit, but still among the "persons, papers and effects" as stipulated in the 4th amendment) absent writs of search or seizure;

- a legal differentiation between man-made distilled spirits and synthetic chemicals v. naturally-occuring plants, God-given, the latter being penalized most harshly by law, and whose various States have no longer power to govern their own constituencies in this regard;

- whose national government has deemed it such that a living human being be denied his and her future existence, the various States, similarly, having been deprived the power to govern their own constituencies in this regard;

- and a system of education by which every adult citizen, including the childless, are forced to fund a bevy of educators, whose curriculum which supports all of the above is designed by the same government which enforces its source of funds;

...our third President would have pleaded:

"Is there not one decent person among us, who might find favor among our people, for Liberty's sake?"

20 years hence, the answer may very well be, "No. There is not such a person among us."

We have the benefit of foresight, currently. When asked what form of government the signers of the Constitution had given the Colonists, at the Philadelphia Convention, Benjamin Franklin responded, "a republic, Ma'am; if you can keep it." To salvage the "republic, Ma'am," there is but one living statesman who has, in his eight terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, sponsored legislation to:

- Get US OUT! of the United Nations

- Abolish the Federal Reserve System and reinstitute a hard-money standard

- Put an end to the "progressive" income tax, the "marriage-penalty," capital gains and inheritance taxes

- Abolish the Internal Revenue Service

- Dismantle the Patriot Act, the Medical Records Act, the FBI's Project Carnivore and NSA's Magic Lantern  cyber-snooping capacity

- Place the laws governing use of drugs and occurrences of abortion back unto the respective States, as per the 10th amendment

- Give back to the various States and to parents, and not the Federal Government, the time-honored right to be the source of inspiration to their offspring, via the abolition of the U.S. Department of Education.

U.S. Congressman Ron Paul is the inheritor of our Founders' desires for this nation.

EtherZone.com urges every voter in America to contact Dr. Paul's congressional office, toward a Presidential run in 2004.

[CTRL] BUSH DOES NOT DESERVE OUR SUPPORT

http://www.etherzone.com/2003/sart030703.shtml

BETRAYAL OF REPUBLICANISM
BUSH DOES NOT DESERVE OUR SUPPORT

By: James Hall (aka SARTRE)

The Republican Party has long pursued a path contrary to its heritage. Under President George W. Bush, that direction has culminated in a repudiation of traditional conservative principles. Any honest conservative maintains a core roster of values and policies that reflect their passionate support for the Republic. Belief in limited central government, the rule of law, fiscal responsibility, a free enterprise economy and national defense are essential positions. Despite lip service to these ideals, the Bush administration has systematically turned its back on those standards and has chartered a course that inevitably will preside over the death of our nation.

In addition to the presidency, the Republican Party has control of the House of Representatives and a majority in the Senate. There are no valid excuses left.

Where is the beef?

The events of September 11, 2001 were tragic, but hardly provide justification to abandon our Constitution or deploy the military to every corner of the globe. The security of the United States is not enhanced by perpetual intervention and permanent war. The Presidency is meant to lead the country, not to transform the nation into an empire...

President Bush has overseen an expansion of the federal government, that no Democratic administration could accomplish. His use of executive orders has only increased the scope and reach of central authority. Resonantly absent are any efforts to enact fundamental conservative policies, or to reverse past policies of liberal administrations. Appointments and procedures all reinforce and expand a dominant role of bureaucratic agencies over local jurisdictions. The defense of liberty has been forsaken and is the ultimate causality of the Bush legacy.

Allowing this betrayal to continue would, amiably, be giving consent to the loss of our inherent way of life. Defending the civil liberties of individual citizens was always a basic component of genuine conservative principles. Bush has turned his back on the most important purpose that made America distinct from other countries. "We the People" clearly establishes that governments exists to serve, not control. George W Bush does not deserve another term as president. His re-election risks a coronation of unending despotism.

Presidential elections have been reduced to selecting between approved candidates. Both major parties practice the same anointing course. Yet, the primary process still offers the opportunity to focus the national debate, within the party preference contest. The significance of challenging an incumbent lies in the proving the "emperor has no clothes." Most politicians are obsessed with attaining the office they seek. Many primary nominees are seeking a stage to advance their platform. And even once in a long while, you find a Statesman who seeks to reinstate the real national interest.

Redress of grievances, are seldom heard. During a primary charges become public. Restitution and restoration can be voiced, while visions for returning to our constitutional republic can be presented. Party members and delegates can be tested to chose - raw power politics - or principled purpose. Americans can view that meaningful change is possible, only through reform. Bush would not get a free ride, he would be obliged to debate or be seen as above mere mortals. Republicans would be pressed to follow their true roots or concede that have become and now only promote - internationalism, multiculturalism and imperial empire.

Since purging the traditional wing of bona fide conservatives, the GOP has adopted the neocon policies that are a direct extension of Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt. Serious defenders of America understand that Bush and his cronies are proponents of globalism. If our ranks are expunged from party membership, the haven of a third party requires consideration. Majorities need to include their own voices of conscience or bear the responsibility of dissolution from their morals and purpose. The United States has squandered the "good will" of a generous people. Bush has isolated America from the rest of the world. His drive for interdependence has been discredited, as he pursues a course of conquest. His claims of liberation of foreign lands, have the cost of forsaking and honoring our own liberty, here on home soil.

Third parties may not become the avenue to the oval office, but supporting such movements retain the authenticity of righteousness. Just look what kind of government we received under a so called conservative? The Republican Party needs to change and renew or their tenure in power will end in disaster. The "war on terror" has become the annihilate of dissent. When Bush says he will track down all those who make war on America, he really is saying that everyone must accept his form of

Re: [CTRL] The Protocols: Were the Elders really Jewish?

2003-03-07 Thread David Sutherland

Father Pierre Charles, Professor of
Theology at the Jesuit College in Louvain, France, stated in a 1938 essay:

  "It has been proved that
these 'Protocols' are a fraud, a clumsy plagiarism. . . made for the purpose
  of rendering the Jews odious..."
Too right! Thegood Jesuit
Professor ought to know. For it was hisfellow Jesuits whose hidden hand is
made visible in the Protocols concoction.

The site alsopromotes another
well-worn but deliberate lie -- an out of context quote from
Disraeli.

Benjamin Disraeli included in his novel “Coningsby” (1844) a passage in
which the rich Jew Sidonia describes how he travelled from country to country to
raise a loan, and in each capital found that the minister concerned was a Jew.

He ends his tale with the comment:

  “So you see, my dear
Coningsby, that the world is governed by very different personages from what
is imagined by those who are not behind the scenes” (bk. 3, ch.
  15).
And this paragraph came from a
Jew who was later to become Prime Minister! Needless to say, Judeophobes who quote this as some“proof of
the power of the Jews,”always manage to overlook the fact that the
various ministers named were in reality
non-Jews.

But of course, a lie will travel the
world seven times over before truth has had a chance to put its boots
on.

By implication, the reader of the
Protocols is to be persuaded that the alleged Zionists and Jews head a worldwide
pyramid of evil to ensnare and enslave mankind.Thesealleged Jewish
Elders are portrayed as human devils.

One of the many bizarre claims put in
the mouth of the 'Elders' is that freedom of conscience
is theirdoing. I don't know about the readers here, but
personally I don't view individual "freedom of conscience" as evil. To
the contrary, and to every person i have ever met, individual freedom
to think and live as one chooses is held in high esteem.

Yet in theProtocols,
weare supposed to believe that freedom of thought and conscience is
thedesign and doing of these evil 'Elders'!

  "Freedom of conscience
has been declared everywhere, so that now only years divide us from the moment
of the complete wrecking of that Christian religion"
  (cf Protocol 17 sec 2).
Students of history will immediately identify that the intent of this
phrase is taken straight from the curses of the popes of Rome who shunned and
persecuted those who dared to dissent from their religious officialdom.

The 'Protocols' here are stating,
in a reversed sense, what is anathema to the papacy. In other words, in
the 'Protocols,'"freedom of conscience" is
presented as the work of human Zionist devils.

Thustaught pope Pius IX in his edict:

From which totally false idea of
social government they do not fear to foster that erroneous opinion, most
fatal in its effects on the Catholic Church and the salvation of souls, called
by Our Predecessor, Gregory XVI, an "insanity," viz.,
that "liberty of conscience and worship is each man's
personal right, which ought to be legally proclaimed and asserted in
every rightly constituted society; and that a right resides in the citizens to
an absolute liberty, which should be restrained by no authority whether
ecclesiastical or civil, whereby they may be able openly and publicly to
manifest and declare any of their ideas whatever, either by word of mouth, by
the press, or in any other way."
What the pope
says is that liberty of conscience, freedom ofexpression, freedom of the
press so on and so forthand also those that hold such views, are all
symptomatic of "insanity".
Another example of carelessness in this forgery, or perhaps an insertion
to give clue to its actual authors, is found in Protocol 24 wherein it speaks of
the "King of the Jews".

Such a statement would never be made by hardline Jews as these alleged
Zionists are supposed to be.The phrase in fact comes form the New
Testament, where the Roman procurator Pilate mocks the
self-importantreligionists ofIsrael, by having an inscription marked
on Jesus' cross sayingthat Jesus is the "King of the
Jews".Such a phrase made by an outsider would be a
grave insult to any Orthodox Jew, let alone a hardline'Elder Zionist'
referring to their alleged king with such a
phrase!

Throughoutthe 'Protocols,'the inferences in essence condemn
near everything the popes and the Jesuits in their vociferous publications and
"Bulls" anathematised and fanatically railed against -- the Free Press,
Liberalism, Communism, the Reformation, Liberty of Conscience, by inference the
Jews andMasons.By implication, it's like reading through the papal
"Syllabus or Errors" and co-curses of Catholic
writers.

When
the implications of the text are placed in reverse, the following appears:
The Catholic Church is the
only upholder of morality, the social order, faith, patriotism and
dignity.
The Catholic Church is the
only institution which has stood, and which

Who is General Tommy Franks?
Christopher Bollyn - American Free Press

If any question why we died
Tell them because our fathers lied.
- Kipling

Overall command is [U.S.] General Tommy Franks, the four-star general, Spencer said. Tommy Franks will work jointly with Air Marshall Brian Burridge, Britains National Contingent Commander.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) is a unified joint command, which has developed from the concept of the Rapid Reaction Task Force initiated by President Ronald Reagan. Central Command is under the direct command of only three men: U.S. President George W. Bush, the Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, and General Tommy Franks.

CENTCOM has no forces of its own. Troops and assets from the various branches of the military are allocated to Franks command in order to carry out his mandate. Franks has been mentioned as the man who will govern Iraq in the event that U.S. and British military forces occupy the Middle Eastern state of some 25 million people.

Spokesmen of CENTCOM refuse to answer questions about Franks background, which is very sketchy, and few details are found in any of the published biographical sources. Biographical entries about Franks are quite unusual in that they do not include the names of his parents or his religion.

Asked about why so little information is available about the man who will lead U.S. armed forces in war, a Defense Dept. spokesman said: Hes had his bio out that he wants to put out. He has certain rights.

Because we are in a different age, that is force protection, Pentagon spokesman Dan Hetlage said about the secrecy behind Franks background. Thats a personal decision [to release personal information]. It makes no difference [his religion]. He takes his orders from the President. Would it make a difference if Gen. Franks or Gen. Hetlage were in command?

Franks is said to be the only child of Ray, a Wynnewood, Okla., construction worker, and Lorene, a seamstress and homemaker. Soon after his birth in 1945, his family is said to have relocated to George W. Bush's former hometown of Midland, Texas, where Franks was a lineman on the high school football squad, who apparently made little impression. When Franks first surfaced as the commander of CENTCOM, journalists could find no one in Midland who could actually remember him having lived there.

An archivist in Midland checked the town records for American Free Press and found the Franks family listed only from 1955 to 1962, during which time Ray Franks worked at a local hardware store. Oddly, from 1945 to 1955 there is no mention of the Franks family in Midland records, according to the archivist. The same year Tommy finished high school, the family apparently disappeared from Midland records.

Having attended the same high school in Midland as the presidents wife, Laura Bush, Franks moved to Austin where he attended University of Texas for about two years before dropping out and joining the army. After serving in Vietnam, Franks was selected to participate in the Army's "Boot Strap Degree Completion Program," and subsequently attended the University of Texas, Arlington, where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1971.

Franks collected three Purple Hearts in Vietnam although how he was injured is not a matter of public record.

After a long career in the army, Franks, who is an artillery specialist, was promoted to general by former Secretary of Defense William Cohen and placed in charge of Central Command, which is responsible for the entire Middle East area.

My faith in God is important, Franks said in an interview, however, it is not known which faith he belongs to. Although it has been said that Franks is of Russian Jewish extraction, the son or grandson of Khazar Jewish refugees from the Soviet Union, like Gen. Wesley Kanne Clark (who was raised as a Protestant in Little Rock), the religious and ethnic background of Tommy Franks is simply not known.

That in itself says a lot, independent investigator James W. von Brunn of Easton, Maryland, told AFP. Hes hiding something, Von Brunn said. Having conducted an intensive search into Franks background von Brunn was unable to find anything.

Col. John Alexander, Army Intelligence (Ret.) says, "KGB defectors told us they were looking at it as a way of killing people." "It" is a technique known as remote viewing. It was developed for the CIA in a twenty-year secret study. The Pentagon had its own secret program based at Ft. Meade Maryland. Las Vegas' John Alexander was involved with the research: "Is it real? The answer is yes. Does it work 100% of the time, the answer is no." In total secrecy, government psychics used remote viewing to keep tabs on the Russians and their war machine, to track the likes of Moammar Khadafi, the Iranian hostages, Saddam Hussein's hidden scud missiles. There were spectacular successes but also failures, and when the story began leaking out about the program, the CIA washed its hands and officially got out of the psychic business. [CTRL] THE PAPAL ALLIANCE WITH ISLAM

2003-03-07 Thread David Sutherland
-Caveat Lector-

THE NEW PARTNERSHIP
BETWEEN THE PAPACY AND ISLAMIn recent years Pope John Paul II
has worked hard to woo Mecca to Rome. In May 2001 the pope made history by
becoming the first Catholic leader to set foot into a mosque and participate in
an organized prayer service. The symbolic meeting took place when
the Pope entered the Umayyad Mosque in the Syrian capital of
Damascus.
This mosque has significance for
both Muslims and Christians. For Muslims it is the oldest stone mosque in the
world, while for Christians it is the alleged place where John the Baptist was
buried. The Pope led in Christian prayers, while his Moslem
counterpart, Sheikh Ahmed Kataro, led in Moslem prayers. By this dramatic act of
worshipping in a mosque, the Pope underlined his commitment to work toward a
rapprochement with the Muslims.Twelve days after the horrors of
September 11, 2001, the Pope renewed his commitment to work toward a new
partnership with Moslems in his message to the predominantly Muslim nation
of Kazakhstan. The Pope declared: "'There is one God'. The Apostle proclaims
before all else the absolute oneness of God. This is a truth which Christians inherited from the children of Israel
and which they share with Muslims: it is faith in the one God, 'Lord of heaven
and earth' (Lk.10:21), almighty and merciful. In the name of this one God, I
turn to the people of deep and ancient religious traditions, the people of
Kazakhstan."1The Pope then appealed to both Muslims and Christians to
work together to build a "civilization of love": "This 'logic of
love' is what he [Jesus] holds out to us, asking us to live it above all through
generosity to those in need. It is a logic which can bring together Christians
and Muslims, and commit them to work together for the 'civilization of love'. It
is a logic which overcomes all the cunning of this world and allows us to make
true friends who will welcome us 'into the eternal dwelling-places' (Lk.16:9),
into the 'homeland' of heaven."2In his final prayer, the Pope again
appealed for Christians and Muslims to work together side by side in fulfilling
God's will: "And in this celebration we want to pray for Kazakhstan and its
inhabitants, so that this vast nation, with all its ethnic, cultural and
religious variety, will grow stronger in justice, solidarity and peace. May
it progress on the basis in particular of cooperation between Christians and
Muslims, committed day by day, side by side, in the effort to fulfil God's
will."3 In spite of the catastrophic events of September 11th, the Pope is
still committed to work toward a partnership with the Muslims. The basis of
this partnership is the belief that Catholics and Muslims worship the same God
of Abraham.
This belief is
clearly expressed in the new official Catechism of the Catholic Church, which
speaks of the new Catholic relationship with the Muslims in these terms:
"The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in
the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of
Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge
on the last day."4The Catechism continues affirming that
"The Church has also a high regard for the Muslims. They worship God, who is
one, living and subsistent, merciful and almighty, the Creator of heaven and
earth, who has also spoken to men. They strive to submit themselves without
reserve to the hidden decrees of God, just as Abraham submitted himself to God's
plan, whose faith Muslims eagerly link to their own. Although not acknowledging
him as God, they venerate Jesus as a prophet, his virgin Mother they also honor,
and even at times devotedly invoke. Further, they await the day of judgment and
the reward of God following the resurrection of the dead. For this reason they
highly esteem an upright life and worship God, especially by way of prayer,
alms-deeds and fasting."5It is evident that the Catholic estimation
of Islam has undergone a fundamental change from the religion of "infidels"
to that of believers who worship the same God of Abraham. While in
the past the Catholic Church denounced Islam as an evil religion to be
suppressed by crusades (Holy War), today she welcomes and affirms Muslims
as having the same faith of Abraham as herself. The driving force behind
this tactical reappraisal of Islam is the determination of the Vatican to bring
about a New World Order under the "moral and religious" leadership of the Pope.
This goal was expressed at Vatican II which declares: "The encouragement
of unity is in harmony with the deepest nature of the [Roman Catholic] Church's
mission."6The profound danger facing the professed Christian world today
is to naively accept the Pope's claim to be the official spokesman for Christ on
earth -- a deception that is deeply embedded in the new thrust to create a
global coalition of nations on the basis of a politically

[CTRL] French selling military parts to Iraq

French selling military parts to
Iraq
AFP - A French company has been selling spare parts to Iraq
for its fighter jets and military helicopters during the past several months,
The Washington Times reports.
Citing unnamed intelligence officials, the newspaper said the company that
has not been identified sold the parts to a trading company in the United Arab
Emirates, which then shipped the parts through a third country into Iraq by
truck.
The spare parts included goods for Iraq's French-made Mirage F-1 jets and
Gazelle attack helicopters, according to the report.
An intelligence official said the illegal spare-parts pipeline was discovered
in the past two weeks and that sensitive intelligence about the transfers
indicates that the parts were smuggled to Iraq as recently as January, The Times
said.
The parts appear to be part of an effort by the Iraqi military to build up
materiel for its air forces before any US military action, which could occur
before the end of the month, the report said.

The
officials identified the purchaser of the parts as the Al Tamoor Trading Co.,
which is based in Dubai, according to the paper.
The French military parts were then sent by truck into Iraq from a
neighbouring country the officials declined to identify.
Iraq has more than 50 Mirage F-1 jets and an unknown number of Gazelle attack
helicopters, according to the London-based International Institute for Strategic
Studies.
An administration official said, however, that intelligence reports did not
indicate that the activity was sanctioned by the French government or that Paris
knows about the transfers, The Times said.©AAP 2003

French selling military parts to Iraq
AFP - A French company has been selling spare parts to
  Iraq.
It seems fine and dandy to demonize France for
selling to the enemyPRIOR TOa war.
It makes them look worse for not being "on
side". One needs to realize however that
the media fails to mention that some prominent
Americans did business with the Nazi's
  DURING THE WAR.

Gary H. Kah wrote a (imho) good book that touches
on Rome's ecumenical nature as of late. New World Religion was the
title.

David,

You are nothing but a sycophant of the New
Age leaders.  The New Age attack started
at the time of the Fabian movement at the turn of the century and has continued
on the monotheistic religions, and that includes Jew and Catholics.   Antisemites are those who say that because all Jews are not morally
perfect, all Jews are morally imperfect.
That same line of thinking goes for your views on Catholics.  Catholics who dont live up to the
ideals of the Catholic faith do not take away from the value of the morality
which Catholics all over the world attempt to follow.

Catholics leadership, like Jewish
leadership, has to deal with the fact that others are out to destroy them.  To that end they play politics as every other
group does.  This means exposing those
who are out to destroy them, who lie about them, who work behind the
scenes.  They share information, make
friends where they can and attempt to be on top of what is happening.   You are so hung up on hating Catholics that
it has skewed your view of reality.  I am
not about to trade attack dog posts with you.
The websites and libraries are full of disinformation attacks on every
group imaginable.  To pull some such statements
from one of your kin and build a picture around it is really not credible.

If you really want to sound credible, work
on quotes from individuals in a  group such as TTP and show how
individuals connected with the group are doing specific things that work
against a better world.   Show how what they are doing is part of basic
Catholic morality that is being promoted by Catholics across the world.

Your posts are rather useless in terms of
learning what is happening in the world although they seem to be emotionally
gratifying to you.
