All other usb-things work fine, so the fault can not be in hotplug(?).

Do you have hotplug installed, and does it work for other things ?

Also check that your scanner is in the list of scanners used by
hotplug, under /etc/sane.d/hotplug/libsane.db.

Which scanner are you using ?

Bug#368530: joe: Mail would be better word-wrapped at 70 columns.

Could you please set the default -rmargin for mail (*tmp/mutt-*) to 70
columns, as prescribed by the Netiquette? With the current default of
77, lines quoted multiple times by users of lesser editors/mailers
without proper reformatting capabilities tend to wrap around nastily
 pretty fast.

That's a slippery slope. What about the threads where there are more than
five quotes (5 * is 80-10 = 70 characters)?

Besides, the line wrapping settings (margins and wordwrap) don't affect text
that is already entered. Since you can't automagically reduce the line width
of the quoted mails, you could only reduce the width of your lines and make
your own ^KJ function more efficient, but you still have to do that each
time you get a new mail with broken quotes.

Bug#368573: tulip: FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD

2006-05-23 Thread Petr Salinger
Package: tulip
Severity: important
Version: 2.0.4-1
Tags: patch

Hi,

the current version fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD.

It needs updated config.guess, config.sub and small tweak in ftgl library.
It should also build-depend on qt3-apps-dev, this won't be GNU/kFreeBSD
specific.

BTW, could you switch to use debian package of ftgl instead of including
one directly ? ftgl-dev contains both pic and non-pic
variant of library: libfftgl.a, libftgl_pic.a

For ftgl, the similar patch as in #340720 applies:

--- thirdparty/ftgl/FTVectoriser.cpp
+++ thirdparty/ftgl/FTVectoriser.cpp
@@ -7,7 +7,7 @@

 #ifdef __APPLE_CC__
 typedef GLvoid (*GLUTesselatorFunction)(...);
-#elif defined( __mips ) || defined( __linux__ ) || defined( __FreeBSD__ ) ||
defined( __OpenBSD__ ) || defined( __sun ) || defined (__CYGWIN__)
+#elif defined( __mips ) || defined( __linux__ ) || defined(
__FreeBSD_kernel__)  || defined( __FreeBSD__ ) || defined( __OpenBSD__ ) ||
defined( __sun ) || defined (__CYGWIN__)
 typedef GLvoid (*GLUTesselatorFunction)();
 #elif defined ( WIN32)
 typedef GLvoid (CALLBACK *GLUTesselatorFunction)( );

For config.guess and config.sub is needed a version
from last year, which is available in the autotools-dev
packages that are in current sarge, and sid.

You can simply copy them manually, but it can also be done
automatically using the method described in
/usr/share/doc/autotools-dev/README.Debian.gz

It would also be nice if you can ask upstream
to include this changes.

Thanks in advance

Petr

Rerunning automake will eliminate those lines completely. (These

Yes, code similar to this but with ${datadir} is going to have a

Subject: gnome-terminal: nCurses programs behave weirdly in tabs number 3 and
newer
Package: gnome-terminal
Version: 2.14.1-1
Severity: important

All nCurses applications work in tabs 1 and 2 just fine, but from tab 3
onward, they don't display correctly at all. The numbers represent an
order in some kind of array. If I close tab 2 but leave tab 3 open, then
open a new tab, it will behave as if it is tab 4 (i.e. bad nCurses
behavior). Closind tabs 3 and 4 then opening a new tab, opens a tab
number 2 (i.e. nCurses applications work as expected). Detaching and of
the mis-behaving tabs makes them work as expected without any other
interaction.

attached the output of running ttx with and without the patch. You

safe_epoch_t[:6] second) just before the assertion errors.

As to the fix for this, I don't know enough about fonts or fonttools,

   needed this for years.

Scratch this patch. It's Autoconf-2.13 that sets ac_cv_exeext=no.
If GCC is going to use 2.13 and 2.60 in one tree, then we need to
explicitly ignore a cache value of `no'. I'll make another patch.

Maybe (note that I'm using unstable's teTeX), or because you're using a
different ghostscript; here, gs points to gs-esp.

Sarge, hence gs-esp version 7.07 I guess. Or have you backported GS?

 % ls -l /etc/alternatives/gs
 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2006-04-07 19:17 /etc/alternatives/gs -
 /usr/bin/gs-esp

In unstable, gs-esp is version 8.15 or so. The step from v7 to v8 was
very important for the quality of PDF. I get here (with gs pointing to
gs-gpl version 8.01) identical results from pdflatex and from latex+
dvips+ps2pdf. The only error in the bookmarks that I can see is 'N' and
'n' instead of the proper 'Eng' and 'eng' (or 'Ng' and 'ng') glyphs.
But that happens with both routes and may well be a font issue.

How about forwarding this patch upstream? I think Heiko is better equiped
than we to judge all the fine details here.

Subject: firefox: Bold cjk bitmap fonts usually flicker

 Hi,

Due to the current limitations of fontconfig system in Debian, the
users with CJK locales cannot get bold fonts directly from TTF fonts.
Therefore, bitmap fonts are still not a bad choice. For example,
WenQuanYi bitmap song font (xfonts-wqy) is such a bitmap font.

Unfortunately, I found the firefox built by Debian sid cannot work
well with bitmap fonts. When the fonts are set to bitmap font, such
as WenQuanYi, the hyperlink texts with bold face usually flicker as
mouse pass through them. It is the case even for pure English
hyperlinks, say, the bug reports page of Debian if the fonts of
western are set to Bitmap fonts.

In order to confirm it is Debian related problem, I also tested the
official firefox 1.5 and alpha 2.0 from Mozilla. Both of them works
 well without this problem.

Try running your debian firefox with MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1.

Mike

Bug#367853: libdb transition policy? (Was: Re: Bug#367853: libetpan: Please consider transitioning to libdb4.4)

2006-05-23 Thread Nikita V. Youshchenko
[CCing to -devel and to people who maintain packages that depend on
libetpan]

 Package: libetpan
 Severity: wishlist

 Hi,
currently several versions of the berkeley db libraries are used in the
 archive: libdb[4.2,4.3,4.4].
Please consider upgrading to libdb4.4 in order to ship etch with fewer
 versions of this library.

Thank you for pointing this.

However, if I will build library against libdb4.4 instead of libdb4.2, this
will probably break any binaries built against the library - both packaged
and local.

Asking upstream to change soname is IMO not an option in this case because
libdb transition is debian internal activity, and upstream has nothing to
do with it.

So how to handle this? Change soname (making it different from upstream)?

Reading Library Packaging guide [1] could not point me to any particular
solution.

Btw, I guess the same situation is with other packages also - maybe there
is some policy around this particular transition?

Nikita

Not really, Ruby *cannot* be licenced under the standard GPL if it

I am runnning xfmedia and IceWM. When I play a video and press 'f' to

the current workspace, where I started xfmedia. This doesn't happen when
I put xfmedia into fullscreen mode via Alt-F11 (standard IceWM feature).

Ok, I can reproduce this, and a friend of mine too, using xfwm (4.4B1
and 4.2). I'll forward the bug upstream, but don't expect too much news,
because upstream is currently rewriting xfmedia.

By the way, main purpose of Xfmedia isn't video playing, it's just a
side effect of using libxine, so the developer may not be interested in
spending time fixing this bug while he's rewriting a new version.

Bug#368548: ratpoison: Should not depend on 9menu

2006-05-23 Thread Bernhard R. Link
* Jorgen Schaefer [EMAIL PROTECTED] [060523 01:14]:
One small problem: ratpoison now Depends: on 9menu. While this is
nice, I find it somewhat obscure that a window manager like ratpoison
_requires_ a menu application upon installation. It would be nice if
this would be changed to Recommends:, since it surely is not required
 for ratpoison to work.

I thought a long time about this. The reason leading me to this
direction were:

- 9menu if quite tiny. The binary of it is smaller than the
ruby bindings of ratpoison, and the binary make the largest part of
the package. The whole unpacked package, even when rounding all files
to block sizes, would fit within the changelog.Debian.gz of ratpoison.

- There is no way to specify that 9menu should be installed when menu
  is installed.

If menu is installed, all halfly capable window managers offer to
start ratpoison with a simple click into the menu. I'd much prefer
to have a nice way back when someone accidentially clicks on
ratpoison, so that admins can install ratpoison for the power users
  with a clear conscience.

- Least I don't know how to calculate the window manager priority when
there is a menu but not always...

To make synaptic crashing we need, once emacs from testing has been

Then relaunch synaptic and select the emacs21-common package and go to
force version to have the crash.
Sorry for this important omission.

Berkeley DB uses symbol versioning, so I don't think changing the DB

You need to devise a procedure for upgrading the database

Bug#368561: Cannot make zaptel-source: SUBDIR not found

2006-05-23 Thread Jørgen Elgaard Larsen

Tzafrir Cohen wrote:

Try using module-assistant instead of extracting the tarball and
building:

  m-a -k /full/path/to/kernel/dir -u . -i -t build zaptel

kernel dir is the directory that includes the configured kernel source
or a directory from a proper kerne;-headers package.

Thank you for your very quick response and good advice. The text above
would go nicely in an INSTALL file.

However, it still will not build for me: While building zaphfc, it
cannot find zaptel.h

I have tried copying zaptel.h into the zaphfc directory, but to no
avail. It still will not build.

Also, it warns a lot about missing CRC's

It does not matter whether I try building as a normal user or as root.

I have attached the build log. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Jørgen Elgaard Larsen

Bug#348778: #348778: ext2prepare corrupts the file system

2006-05-23 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

tags 348778 + patch
thanks

I got this answer on the ext2resize-devel mailing list:

[Andreas Dilger]
That's because ext2prepare was never updated to support the new
ext3 resize inode format. There was actually a patch posted on
ext2-devel which may fix this from Takashi Sato, but I haven't had
time to look at it yet:

 [Ext2-devel] [RFC][17/21]ext2resize fix resize_inode format

I found the diff on
URL:http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0604.1/1090.html,
and manually applied it to my copy of the source as the HTML version
didn't apply using patch.

Can you test it and let me know if it solve the problem for you? I've
tested it and e2fsck no longer complains when I run it on a fresh file
system.

#! /bin/sh /usr/share/dpatch/dpatch-run
## 05_ext3newformat.dpatch
##
## DP: Update to use the new resize-inode format. Patch from Takashi
## DP: Sato [EMAIL PROTECTED] found on
## DP: URL:http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0604.1/1090.html
## DP: and manually applied.

Summary of this patch:
[17/21] fix the bug related to the option resize_inode
  - A format of resize-inode in ext2prepare is different from
the one in mke2fs, so ext2prepare fails. Then I adapt
ext2prepare's to mke2fs's.

Or at least = 2.3, according to the faq entry.

Please adjust the dependency accordingly.

Ciao,

I have injected a PortAudio V19 package into the pkg-voip svn
repository, but it probably won't be uploaded until a released version
is available from upstream. Upstream will hopefully release V19 within a
couple of weeks[1].

I installed Eclipse and it appeared in the Debian menu in my panel, it
seems the bug is fixed. Do you still get the bug?

Bug#295788: sylpheed-claws: Can't mark and then delete a group of messages

2006-05-23 Thread Micha Feigin
I found the setting that causes this behaviour to happen.

It happens if grp:shifts_toggle is used in /etc/X11/xorg.conf to switch between
keymaps (at least when using en,il keymaps option). When using a different
groups switching method behaviour is fine.

Bug#368590: monodevelop: Recent files/solutions always empty

2006-05-23 Thread Alexis Papadopoulos
Package: monodevelop
Version: 0.10-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

I'm having this problem from the very beginning (previous versions of
Monodevelop).
The Recent Files and Recent Solutions menu items are always empty (strangely
enough, the
Recent Files contains some times the last file opened).
When opening a solution, it is correctly added in the menu, but if I restart
Monodevelop, it isn't there anymore. I thought it might be a problem with the
config
files so removed the whole directory and restarted, with no improvment
whatsoever.
I checked in case it was a write-access problem, but it's not the case, the
settings directory
is writable and all settings are correctly kept from session to session.

What I find weird is that no-one seems to have reported the bug, and I can't
seem
to find anything on the web.

Bug#368592: php4: CVE-2006-1014 and CVE-2006-1015: argument injection in mb_send_mail function

CVE-2006-1014: Argument injection vulnerability in certain PHP 4.x and

input for the additional_parameters argument to the mb_send_mail
function, allows context-dependent attackers to read and create
arbitrary files by providing extra -C and -X arguments to sendmail.
NOTE: it could be argued that this is a class of technology-specific
vulnerability, instead of a particular instance; if so, then this
should not be included in CVE.

This likely also affects php4 in sarge and woody. Advisory

find record of it fixed upstream.

Please mention the CVE in your changelog.

Bug#368599: There should be a default icon theme for gnome/KDE/whatever that is appealing

2006-05-23 Thread Luis Matos
Package: desktop-base

There should be a default theme that would be appealing for users that
is not the default gnome theme. My choice would be tango [1]* that is
largely used by other applications also (that could be turned default),
or suede [2].

I think this is important to improve debian desktop user experience,
mostly new users, to have a nice desktop environment.

I think it's a gconf schema problem, the gconf schema was created by
some old version and is already installed for your and my user too (on
the laptop), and it doesn't contain the things it needs for the history

I don't know how to purge that though, but I believe it's not
system-wide, it's somewhere in ~

Thus removing/purge the monodevelop package does not clean that...

This is being caused because you are invoking vim as vi, which starts
Vim in vi-compatible mode set. Vi-compatible mode does not understand
line continuations by default. The next upload will have a patched
po.vim which overrides the 'cpoptions' to allow line continuation.

Please incorporate the new upstream release. As you know, it fixes
several bugs in the Debian BTS, which have been pending upload for
 months now.

I'd love to do that, the package has been ready for months. But my
regular sponsor is unavailable at the moment.

I tried to find a sponsor through mentors et. al., sadly without luck.

If you do know someone willing to sponsor this _please_ let me know.

Bug#336291: libpam-ssh: does not work as advertised in README.Debian

2006-05-23 Thread Elmar Hoffmann
Package: libpam-ssh
Version: 1.91.0-9.1
Followup-For: Bug #336291

While I haven't tried with gdm (yet), just including pam-ssh-auth
before common-auth (and pam-ssh-session after common-session) works
fine for login.
Login works with just giving the SSH key's passphrase aswell as
hitting return at the SSH passphrase prompt and logging in with the
user password at the following prompt (ie. for users without a SSH
key).
Thus I do not see were the original submitter had a problem with this
and README.Debian should be changed to suggest including pam-ssh-auth
before common-auth instead of after as this does work with a
passphrase on the key that is different from the user password.

Of course a nice cosmetic improvement would be to not prompt for a SSH
passphrase if the the user has no SSH key.

Bug#368604: Cannot download dot-files

Hi!

If a torrent contains any files starting with a dot (.), bittornado

like this:

This behavior is probably inherited from the Windows version. It isn't
really justified in Windows either as far as I can see, but certainly
not in linux. A torrent-file which is affected by the problem is
located at

2006-05-23 Thread Frederik Eaton
Here. It seems to leak directories in /tmp/ still (they are not empty
because they contain a subdirectory called .udev). I don't know what
the syslogd problem is, I get it when trying to install sysklogd as
well. Also, the INTERFACE_NEW=eth1 thing is confusing, I have an eth1
interface but it is not up. The install doesn't fail, which is good,
but as I said when I installed the stable version and then removed it,
after that the unstable version began installing successfully as well,
so I think whatever caused my problem is gone. Since you said it was a
deadlock thing, I also tried doing the installation at different CPU
speeds, still no failure... Also, I made sure that udevd is running.
Hope this helps.

Hi,

I don't think depending on gcc 4.1 without really understanding the
issue is a good idea. There is a good chance that the bug is not
really fixed, but only hidden by circumstances. So it would really be
the best way to go to extract a minimal test case, see whether it's
gcc's or tagcoll's fault, and then make sure it is really fixed.
