Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
   Just normal update of package.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or

Personally I would agree that bundling is different from creating a
"derived product".
But, of course, there's some room for interpretation (especially in a
court...).

Only if they want to use the "OmniTI Computer Consulting" company name
(or the name of possible contributors) in order to endorse or promote
their products.
And only as long as these products are deemed to be derived from
dprof2calltree, as said above.

Well, as far as I can say, the 4-clause BSD license is considered
acceptable for Debian main.
It is also [considered] a free software license by the FSF, although it
is considered GPL-incompatible, ugly and strongly recommended against
(for people who are choosing a license to release new software under).

[considered]: <https://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html#OriginalBSD>

This needs to be done, in order to comply with the license.

And it is the OAC (Obnoxious Advertising Clause), the actual reason why
the 4-clause BSD license is GPL-incompatible.

[OAC]: <https://www.gnu.org/licenses/bsd.html>

>
> 2. OmniTI Computer Consulting's name cannot be used to "without specific
> prior written permission"

It can be used in the limited text "This product includes software
developed by OmniTI Computer Consulting", since the OAC mandates the
display of this acknowledgment.
You have specific prior written permission to display that
acknowledgment: you have this permission in the very license text.
Actually you have an obligation to do so.

Without additional specific written permission, you cannot use the
company name in other ways, to endorse or promote derived products.

At least, this is the (not self-contradictory) interpretation that I
believe it has always been intended for the 4-clause BSD license...

>
> The desert island does not have the paper snailmail service required to

I think the 4-clause BSD license does *not* fail the desert island test.

However, it is clear that the 4-clause BSD license is GPL-incompatible.

It would therefore be safer to not include 4-clause BSD licensed
material in a package where other parts (or libraries) are under the
GNU GPL. Even though, one might argue that the converter is just
bundled with the rest, without having any derivation or linking
relationship with GPL-licensed material...

What I would recommend in this case is one of the following actions (in
descending order of preference):

 • try and get in touch with OmniTI Computer Consulting and persuade
them to re-license the dprof2calltree converter under the terms of
the 3-clause BSD license (which does not include the deprecated OAC
and is indeed GPL-compatible), but persuade them on the ground of
GPL-incompatibility, deprecation, and practical issues of the OAC
(not on the ground of a DFSG-freeness issue, since there is no such
   issue!)

 • try and find a GPL-compatible replacement for dprof2calltree

 • drop dprof2calltree from package kcachegrind, while waiting for a
   better resolution for the issue

I hope this helps.
Bye.

Bug#910581: problem goner after akonadi upgrade

2018-10-22 Thread Francesco Potortì
Yes, no kaddressbook starts without crashing, thanks.

However, it still does not work. On a mate-based system, when it starts
it says:

The Akonadi personal information management service is not running.
This application cannot be used without it. [Start]

When I press the [Start] button I get this message on the console:

org.kde.pim.akonadicore: Unable to execute akonadi_control, falling back
to D-Bus auto-launch

but apparently nothing happens

I see. Thank you.

Unfortunately, the 17.12.3-1 version is no more available in the
archive, apart from the hurd architecture. So I will wait for a newer
version (I am not going to compile it myself).

Bug#889109: konqueror: Almost unusable as web browser

2018-02-01 Thread Francesco
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:17.08.3-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
Latest updates rendered konqueror almost unusable as a normal web
   browser

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I started the browser and opened normally web sites; it's slower and
when inserting data in forms it don't show the input (e.g. open
google and go for a search, the search bar will remain blank even if
it has been correctly filled, when focus is lost text is displayed).
When browsing it uses higher CPU and sometimes freezese and it's
   needed to kill it.

If needed I can try to debug, just tell me what tools to use.

Dear Maintainer,

At start gwenview reports about same shortcut (shift + del) for two

Bug#866865: (no subject)

2017-07-08 Thread Francesco Muzio
I'm running a stable Debian and I can confirm, this bug happen to me
always when I use sddm with openrc (or simply boot with sysvinit-core,
sysv-rc and systemd-shim installed)

With systemd reboot/poweroff/suspend options are "almost" always
available (9 boot on 10)

Bug#861495: plasma-discover: recommend apt-config-auto-update instead of software-properties-kde

2017-04-30 Thread Francesco De Vita

By default? I have different machines with Stretch and the default kde
installation, there was no evidence ever that that happened automatically. I
always had to to check for updates manually in plasma-discover. Of course, I
was able to set the automatic update via s-p-kde but it wasn't set by default.

My suggestion was in fact to recommend apt-config-auto-update *instead of*
s-p-kde. About this point, what should be the default mechanism in Debian to
update the cache and/or enable automatic updates? Something related to APT or
PackageKit only? The manuals still suggest to use and configure apt to do that
(mentioning apticron, apt-config-auto-update and unattend-upgrades for the
convenience of the users). And by the way, s-p-kde does exactly that by
(also?) writing the file /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/10periodic. This is why I don't
understand why the two packages cannot be interchangeable.

You're right. But I just tried to edit my sources with s-p-kde. It crashes
when adding new sources and it automatically enables them and adds a commented
deb-src line. I had to manually check for errors my sources.list anyway.
Also, the interface is misleading due to bug 443643 [1] (a bug of 10 years
ago). In this way it is still better to edit the sources.list with a text
editor.

> or look at which GPG keys ou have installed for them on your system

I don't know if you're talking about the same functionality provided by
apt-key, but s-p-kde simply displays nothing under "Trusted software
providers", while apt-key shows correctly all the keys.

> You can also not enable/disable backports or updates via a simple click.

Maybe yes but still the interface is misleading due to bug 721662 [2].

Well, because of the issues above, I'm not convinced of the benefits of this
package. Right now I still think that the updates can be managed better by
editing the proper files in /etc/apt/ and that the usage of apt-config-auto-
update and unattended-upgrades provides a better setting for the average user.

Thank you for the useful clarifications and for your time.

About the package cache, isn't it in common between apt and PackageKit based
tools? If I issue an "apt update" I see that discover sees the updated cache.
If so, I don't see why not use apt-config-auto-update, it provides a useful
feature that I think many users expect by default.

But plasma-discover already has this feature, I can edit my sources.list with
it and without software-properties-kde being installed.

What benefits if I may ask? The sources.list can be edited already in
plasma-discover without s-p-kde, the periodic updates are broken if I use
discover as you say, and what remains is the possibility to choose if
automatically install security updates (but I suppose unattended-upgrades does
exactly that) or download all the updates in background or just notify about
it.

Thank you.

Bug#861495: plasma-discover: recommend apt-config-auto-update instead of software-properties-kde

2017-04-29 Thread Francesco De Vita
Package: plasma-discover
Version: 5.8.5-3
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

plasma-discover recommends software-properties-kde, a package that allows via
GUI to:
- manage the entries in the sources.list
- set periodic update and automatic upgrades
- opt in/out from the popularity contest

However the software-properties-* packages still have important and old bugs
unresolved that undermine the user experience and, by default, do not enable
automatic updates when installed.

A better alternative could be the installation of plasma-discover with
apt-config-auto-update instead, which provides "configuration snippets for the
Apt package manager to have it automatically update its package cache".

In this way:
- the sources.list can still be managed using plasma-discover directly
- automatic updates are enabled by default

Despite the lack of a couple of features provided by software-properties-kde,
this configuration could be better for a basic installation.

Regards

It was disabled; there was only "show unread messages in systray" checked, I
unchecked it for a try and nothing changed.

> Even if you don't have the system tray icon enabled, could you please check

Didn't work. Even enabling in systray and having right mouse click and exit
removes kmail from systray but leaves the process still present.
If needed I can do some debug, since for me it happens on every run

Bug#834151: kmail process remains polling

2016-08-12 Thread Francesco
Package: kmail
Version: 4:16.04.3-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Closing kmail don't affect the process itself, it remains in background. At a
second
start kmail window won't show. I investigated a little bit and I found older
process, I
did a kill and then the program started correctly.

Using strace to show what's happening once closed it reports always polling,
till
one doesn't exit with ctrl+c

It seems to work for me too.

Bug#794341: kwin-x11: Window manager often frezes when some of window is resized

2015-11-04 Thread Francesco
Package: kwin-x11
Version: 4:5.4.2-1+b1
Followup-For: Bug #794341

Dear Maintainer,

For me the bug is on startup: kwin freezes and the only way to use it is to go
in console (ctrl + alt + f1) and use DISPLAY=:0 nohup kwin --replace & (I use
nohup
so I can free the tty) or by kill -9 kwin and kwin.
Attached is a kcrash generated file occurred once, if it
can be useful. I think more info could be found in .xsession-errors, if you
think
it could be useful I'll attach it.

Bug#802811: libqt5x11extras5: causes konsole to segfault in libX11 on startup

2015-10-27 Thread Francesco De Vita
Package: libqt5x11extras5
Followup-For: Bug #802811

Dear Maintainer,

I confirm this problem too. After upgrading libqt5x11extras5 to
5.5.1-2 today on Stretch, sddm doesn't start and the Plasma 5 session
doesn't start either, also if launched with another display
manager. Using openbox I also found out that Kate and Konsole
segfault. Downgrading libqt5x11extras5 to 5.4.2-2+b1 is a workaround
that prevents this issue.

This is what dmesg shows when Plasma 5 starts and immediately fails:

Bug#800821: some tests

2015-10-08 Thread Francesco Presel
Downgrading dolphin (to 4:15.4.3) but keeping konqueror at
4:15.08.1-1 allows to use dolphinpart again.

During the update from 4:15.4.3 (working) to 4:15.08 (broken),
dolphin was split to a separate src package and its libs were
moved to a different folder (from /usr/lib/kde4 to
/usr/lib/[ARCH]/qt5/plugins).
Maybe it's looking for the dolphinpart.so in the wrong folder?
However, just symlinking dolphinpart.so to the old path does not
work for me

Bug#800821: Also affected

2015-10-07 Thread Francesco Presel
I confirm that, after the latest upgrade (4.14 to 4.15), I am also affected by
this bug
Indeed, it really limits the usability of konqueror as file manager

Bug#800313: [dolphin] dolphin ignores services available on /usr/share/kservices5/

2015-09-27 Thread Francesco Muzio

Package: dolphin
Version: 4:15.08.1-1
Severity: normal

Dear maintainer,

"plasma5" version (4:15.08.1-1) of dolphin ignores services available on
/usr/share/kservices5/

for example I have ark installed (4:15.08.1-1) and some files are
present as a service

$ dpkg -L ark | grep kservices
/usr/share/kservices5
/usr/share/kservices5/ServiceMenus
/usr/share/kservices5/ServiceMenus/ark_servicemenu.desktop
/usr/share/kservices5/ServiceMenus/ark_addtoservicemenu.desktop
/usr/share/kservices5/ark_part.desktop
/usr/share/kservices5/kerfuffle_clilha.desktop
/usr/share/kservices5/kerfuffle_libxz.desktop
/usr/share/kservices5/kerfuffle_libbz2.desktop
/usr/share/kservices5/kerfuffle_libgz.desktop
/usr/share/kservices5/kerfuffle_clizip.desktop
/usr/share/kservices5/kerfuffle_cli7z.desktop
/usr/share/kservices5/kerfuffle_clirar.desktop
/usr/share/kservices5/kerfuffle_libarchive_readonly.desktop
/usr/share/kservices5/kerfuffle_libarchive.desktop

but contextual options like "extract here" and "compress to" are missing
in the options of dolphin filemanager

Bug#799172: gwenview does not start (process is active if started with but no display &)

2015-09-23 Thread Francesco
Package: gwenview
Version: 4:15.08.1-1
Followup-For: Bug #799172

Dear Maintainer,

I was able to start gwenview via commandline just adding a path (eg gwenview . )
The program works just fine, it hangs when you try to go to start page (the
home icon,
go to initial page (I've an italian installation, so maybe it sounds different
in other
language)).
If it can be useful I can try to generate a dump of te locked program, I just
need to
know what tool I've to use.

Bug#799609: konsole: Can't fully handle Alt Gr key combination

2015-09-20 Thread Francesco
Package: konsole
Version: 4:15.08.0-1
Severity: minor
Tags: l10n

Dear Maintainer,

Using telnet the escape character is ^] (Ctrl + ]), in Italian layout
the ] symbol is located on the third level of + (Alt Gr + +) and to insert
escape I used Ctrl + Alt Gr + +; after last updates this combination is
recognized as Ctrl + + leading to a change in fonr size; I found that
Ctrl + Alt + Alt Gr + + is working for escape but it's also not standard
for the use of the keyboard. I don't think it's a kde matter since other
terminals (eg xterm) don't have this issue

Bug#792875: plasma-workspace: plasmashell crashes immediately since 4:5.3.2-2 update on creating PlasmoidTask

2015-08-24 Thread Francesco
Package: plasma-workspace
Version: 4:5.3.2-4
Followup-For: Bug #792875

Dear Maintainer,

I don't know if it can be useful but I'm into similar troubles: trying
to login in kde and it stucks loading endlessly; creating a new user didn't
help since even if the loading bar disappeared there was a black screen with
mouse pointer and no more. I tried to look in the tree of processes and see what
could be, after a few tries I noticed that killing drkonqi:
(/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libexec/drkonqi -platform xcb -display :0
--appname kwin_x11 --apppath /usr/bin --signal 11 --pid 11801 --appversion
5.3.2 --programname KWin --bugaddress sub...@bugs.kde.org --startupid 0)

After killing drkonqi all the desktop load but it's instable.

Bug#793026: kde-window-manager: upgrade to 4:5.3.2-2 generates a disfonctionnement of any window kde

2015-08-01 Thread Francesco
Package: kde-window-manager
Version: 4:5.3.2-3
Followup-For: Bug #793026

Dear Maintainer,

The bug is still present but it can be reclassified since it's not important
anymore: the symlink /usr/bin/kwin allowed kwin to start but, at least for me,
window title bar was black and not usable; I had to install
kwin-decoration-oxygen
to have usable windows (at least one theme), but I still see some weird things:

1) In systemsettings - windows decorations working themes are black (I'll
attach
a screenshot to show), the one visible is the non working one (black title bar)

2) Downloaded decorations don't work; I assume they're vastly for kde4, maybe
not compatible for kde5, one should consider a way for filtering. Don't work
mean the black title as above.

3) There is only one decoration theme, but maybe it's just a matter of time.

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
Updated the package from sid partially solved the problem: as said by Scott
I had to run manually from a terminal (process was not running), then next login
there was the process. The problem with me is that windows have black
decorations:
a big black bar on top of window which cover all buttons (if disabling
effects); with
effects enabled the bar is transparents, and buttons too.
  I didn't do all upgrades from sid, just kde-window-manager and kwin-x11;
kde-plasma-desktop had too many conflicts to be updated as a standalone without
uninstall too many things.

Dear Maintainer,

Maybe the bug is solved, but I'm not totally sure. I changed the hardware
maintaining
the same installation (now my cpu supports SSE2) and the site is working
correctli,
no more errors with javascript are present. I am not sure if the bug is solved
or
if it's in te lack of SSE2 instructions (or maybe other hardware related).

I noticed a similar bug: #744063, maybe we should see if even this bug is solved
or could be hardware related.

Bug#783371: kde4libs: FTBFS if pdebuild issued in source directory

2015-04-26 Thread Francesco De Vita
Source: kde4libs
Version: 4:4.14.2-5
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I tried to recompile the source package kde4libs with cowbuilder/pbuilder but
I'm encountering the issue described in the following.

The config file ~/.pbuilderrc is correctly configured and I already used
cowbuilder to build other debian packages without problems.

The source package is downloaded with `apt-get source kde4libs' from Jessie
repository.

Using:

 $ sudo -E DIST=jessie ARCH=amd64 cowbuilder --build \
   kde4libs_4.14.2-5.dsc

the building process succeeds. But using instead pdebuild against the source
directory:

 $ sudo -E DIST=jessie ARCH=amd64 pdebuild --pbuilder cowbuilder

the build process fails [1] and it seems due to unsolvable build
dependencies/conflicts.

I did another try using pdbuilder without cowbuilder and with a clean local
pbuilder chroot system, but using pdebuild against the source directory leads
to the same error. I thought it was a problem with the build-deps so I did
other tests trying different `--pbuildersatisfydepends' options and also
manually installing the build-deps in the local pbuilder chroot system, but
unfortunately the same issue remains.

Thank you, best regards
Francesco

Bug#755359: [kdm] systemd seem to fail to start display-manager.service

2015-01-10 Thread Francesco Muzio

Il 10/01/2015 02:18, John Paul Adrian Glaubitz ha scritto:

that this symlink is actually always created by the postinst script of
the display manager (on Debian, Fedora uses the [Install] section of
the .service file for that by setting an alias to
display-manager.service) and looking at the source code of the kdm
Debian package, this particular part is actually missing in the kdm
package while it is present in the lightdm package. So it's actually a
bit surprising that the link was installed on my test system.
[...]
It actually depends on which package you reconfigure. So, if you run
dpkg-reconfigure lightdm (provided that lightdm is installed) and
choose kdm as your default DM, it should work. However, if you do
that with dpkg-reconfigure kdm and choose kdm or any other DM for
that matter, it shouldn't work.

With my test I deduced that the soft-link is created only if another
display-manager is configured, is choosed kdm as default and a
kdm.service exists in the right path

However, just to be sure I'm asking again: When you do a fresh
installation and don't use a service file for kdm, kdm works and
systemctl status kdm.service shows that it's running however you get
the warning in the journal about the display-manager service, right?

yes, right.

Bug#755359: [kdm] systemd seem to fail to start display-manager.service

2015-01-09 Thread Francesco Muzio
also I think it's impossible that a soft-link
/etc/systemd/system/display-manager.service is created on a fresh
install who only installs KDM as display-manager.service.

Otherwise on the system there would be a
/etc/systemd/system/display-manager.service who not point to no service.

I've no /etc/systemd/system/display-manager.service on my machines, very

Don't ask me why, but it was missing on your installation but not

how many display managers are installed on your systems?

if you run a dpkg-reconfigure kdm to change the default DM and choose
gdm3/slim the /etc/systemd/system/display-manager.service link is
updated automatically?
And if you re-choose KDM as default
/etc/systemd/system/display-manager.service point again to kdm.service ?

Also, the kdm.service that you put under /lib/systemd/system/
has a completely messed up formatting because you somehow messed
it up during copy and paste. Try looking at the file with cat
/lib/systemd/system/kdm.service and you understand what I mean.
I don't know whether this had any impact though.

It has been caused by a quick and dirty HTTP transfer

PS: Next time you share such a qemu image, please don't set the
locale and the keyboard layout to Italian. It makes it easier
for non-Italian-speaking folk to help you.

I will consider the advice.

And to fix it, you can simply drop the attached service file

from the kdm.service provided for kdm in Fedora. I tested it and it
works without any problems and the warning message in the journal
vanishes and systemctl status kdm.service lists a native systemd

I have tried this new kdm.service file, but the solution isn't working
for me.

The kdm service can be started manually and seems to run without

with the same behaviour showed in previous tests

I have tried the kdm.service file in my real Debian environment and in
the VM that I have shared with you, in both cases KDM will not start at boot

Bug#755359: [kdm] systemd seem to fail to start display-manager.service

2015-01-08 Thread Francesco Muzio

I have done a test with a new installation of Debian.
Yesterday I have created a minimal installation of Debian for i386
architecture with qemu.

I have downloaded the latest weekly build of
debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso image and I have installed it on a qcow2
image of 4GB

I have installed kde-plasma-desktop and kdm.
I have put the correct kdm.service in the /lib/systemd/system/ directory

I have rebooted the system and the result is the same as on my real
machines. kdm it's not executed.

If I delete kdm.service file at the next reboot kdm works as expected.

You can download the disk image of my VM from this link
https://www.dropbox.com/s/nrcwkmbbbqlf5em/HDD4GB.7z?dl=0

I have run it with this command
qemu-system-i386 -m 512 -enable-kvm -cpu athlon -hda HDD4GB.qcow2

I hope it helps you to understand where is the problem.

Bug#755359: [kdm] systemd seem to fail to start display-manager.service

2015-01-08 Thread Francesco Muzio

Why did you copy the extra kdm.service file into the systemd directory?

Because you have told me to do it.
see https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=755359#10

There is something that you are fundamentally doing wrong. I assume you
do a minimal installation without using tasksel during the installation
and then install the packages manually instead of using meta packages
and apparently some essential package is missing?

Because I had to recreate my problem with an image as small as possible.

But don't digress anymore. I have explained my problem in the first message

In journald log I see this message

systemd[1]: Cannot add dependency job for unit display-manager.service,
ignoring: Unit display-manager.service failed to load: No such file or
directory. See system logs and 'systemctl status
display-manager.service' for details.

And your proposed solution was

you could add the attached kdm.service
file and add it to /lib/systemd/system and see if that fixes your
problem.

this test hasn't solved my problem has caused me a fail of KDM to start
at the reboot.

probably you have missed my premise at the top of the first message

Dear maintainers,
My machine (updated debian testing) has only KDM as display manager, it
starts without problem after upgrading/trasition to systemd.

Oops... I have forget to tell you the credentials

user: root
pass: password

user: debian
pass: password

in the image you have downloaded the kdm.service is stored in
/lib/systemd/system/ directory

if you delete it and reboot you can expirienced the error in journalctl log

systemd[1]: Cannot add dependency job for unit display-manager.service,
ignoring: Unit display-manager.service failed to load: No such file or

I think it's a normal behaviour if kdm does not provide service file as
do other Display Manager like GDM3 and SLIM

Bug#755359: [kdm] systemd seem to fail to start display-manager.service

2015-01-06 Thread Francesco Muzio

ops... I have correct only the path for the var ExecStartPre

Now I have done a new test with both paths updated:

- I have copied the file kdm.service to /lib/systemd/system/kdm.service
- I have rebooted the system

kdm is not started, the output of systemctl status kdm shows me the
service as inactive, the same of the previous test

● kdm.service - KDE Display Manager
   Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/kdm.service; static)
  Drop-In: /run/systemd/generator/kdm.service.d
   └─50-kdm-$x-display-manager.conf
   Active: inactive (dead)
 Docs: man:kdm(1)

I don't think to have understand what you mean with kdm works as expected
after a fresh install.
The bug reported here is minor. KDM works for me if the system is booted
without the kdm.service file.

I just wanted to point out a lack of compatibility between the KDM and
systemd. This before to know that SDDM will be the new replacement of KDM

Bug#764852: konqueror: crash on allmusic.com

2014-10-11 Thread Francesco
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:4.14.1-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

When browsing allmusic.com with javascript enabled konqueror crashes after a
while;
in the website links have tips (if you put the mouse on them), so you can try
to reproduce
looking for discografy of a group and seeing tips (after 3 or 4 tips it
crashes).

I'll attach debug info, even if not complete (I didn't found all debug
symbols).

Disabling javascript for the single website solve the problem but some
funcionality
won't work.

Well, if that fails then its indeed a bug in our side, if not, it just that
 Christian needs to rebuild phonon-backend-vlc.

  Hi Maximiliano,
I made some tries with various packages:

  * old configuration: vlc:i386 1:2.1.5-dmo1 and phonon-backend-vlc:i386
1:0.7.2-dmo1 (both from debian multimedia) caused crash on knotify

  * phonon-backend-vlc:i386 0.7.2-1 and vlc from debian repo gave no error

  * phonon-backend-vlc:i386 1:0.8.0-dmo2 (from multimedia) and vlc from debian
gave no error

  * phonon-backend-vlc:i386 1:0.8.0-dmo2 and vlc:i386 1:2.2.0~pre3-dmo2 (both
from multimedia) is giving no error.

Maybe the bug as gone with new release on multimedia repository, I'm still
testing it and I'll leave -dbg packages installed for a while (it could be
useful for Christian).

Now it could be useful to have a feedbak from people that opened the bug and
from one who tried to solve, so I'm adding them in CC and I hope they can
confirm.

 * What was the outcome of this action?

As I can see the bug is related to phonon-backend-vlc (the debian
multimedia one
in my system) and vlc is also the default backend; since changing backend
solved my problem I suggest other people with the same problem to give a
try with this solution and to report.

Sorry, I don't get it, you are using the phonon-backend-vlc from
deb-multimedia and vlc from debian repositories?

Nope, both are from debian multimedia

Asuming that both came from debian multimedia, is there anything in the vlc
of deb-multimedia repositories that is not in the debian repositories?

I don't know about differences; I noticed vlc in deb-multimedia is newer but
phonon-backend-vlc is at the same version and the version in multimedia
repository is a little bigger and maybe due to non-free codec support. I'm
adding in CC also Christian Marillat who could explain differnces and could be
interested since he's maintaining the package.

If you want I could install vlc and backend from the official repository to
see if the bug is confirmed there, and eventually uploading a trace.

 Happy hacking,

Bug#692069: knotify: knotify crashes during desktop startup or shutdown.

2014-07-20 Thread Francesco
Package: kde-runtime
Version: 4:4.13.1-1
Followup-For: Bug #692069

Dear Maintainer,

There are still crashes in knotify; but for me thei don't happen during
startup or shutdown, but due to excessive notifications (at least this seems
to be te reason). When kopete refresh contact list and it notifies with
the sound sometimes comes the crash.

To add more info I generated a trace with proper debug symbols; if needed
tell me how to provide more info.

Bug#755359: [kdm] systemd seem to fail to start display-manager.service

2014-07-19 Thread Francesco Muzio

Package: kdm
Version: 4:4.11.9-1
Severity: minor

Dear maintainers,
My machine (updated debian testing) has only KDM as display manager, it
starts without problem after upgrading/trasition to systemd.

But in journald log I see this message

systemd[1]: Cannot add dependency job for unit display-manager.service,
ignoring: Unit display-manager.service failed to load: No such file or
directory. See system logs and 'systemctl status
display-manager.service' for details.

This bug can be related to another: #741511
If I install slim and choose KDM instead of slim as display manager this
messagge disappears (and KDM login works), but this is not a solution.
KDM must provide own display-manager.service file/soft-link.

This message shouldn't appear on a machine with only KDM display-manager
installed, and when I choose between multiple display-managers the
softlink /etc/systemd/system/display-manager.service must be updated

Bug#708461: solution

2014-03-09 Thread Francesco Muzio

sometimes KDE needs the spring cleaning

I have had the same problem on a very old installation (the problem not
happens on systems less old than 2009) and I have solved with an rm -r
/var/tmp/kdecache-kdm*

So now KDM use always the default directory /var/tmp/kdecache-kdm/

Bug#730052: libkactivities6: Don't work properly without libkactivities-bin

2013-11-20 Thread Francesco
Package: libkactivities6
Version: 4:4.11.3-1
Severity: minor
Tags: upstream

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

Normal system upgrade, libkactivities-bin and libkactivities-models1 packages
were uninstalled and kde activities was not working anymore: joust one default
activity (main), no way to create others activities, no way to show old working
activities.
Applet were marked as present in the desktop but not visible.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

I looked in .kde/share/config for some broken local config in activitymanagerrc
or
plasma-desktop-appletsrc with no success (even looking for correctnes of
activity id
there was no way to show other than main)
I looked for installed/uninstalled packages and I found the system uninstalled
libkactivities-bin ... looked into dependencies and it's marked as recommends.
Installing it solved the problem

The bug is related to dependencies: libkactivities6 should depend strictly on
libkactivities-bin (or libkactivities-bin should be installed by kde and it has
libkactivities6 as dependency)

Hope my report could be useful for anyone with the same problem since dependency
issue is not solved

Bug#673791: (no subject)

2012-06-24 Thread Francesco Muzio

Version: 4:4.8.4-2

The problem still persist and

I have seen that also with the desktop effects enabled the fade
to grey on logout effect doesn't work.

Actually I used the last KDE version available on testing (4:4.8.4-2)

Bug#673791: [kde-window-manager] Problem with basic desktop effects after upgrade

2012-05-21 Thread Francesco Muzio

Package: kde-window-manager
Version: 4:4.7.4-2+b1
Severity: normal

I have a Debian testing which is upgraded frequently

After an upgrade done the Monday of 14 May 2012, I experienced a problem
with the effects on my KDE environment.

For meet my paranoid needs and solve strange behaviours of video memory
corruption (see bug #631391) I have disabled the desktop effects and I
have added

 Option Composite 0
to my xorg.conf in the Extension section.

In this configuration KDE provides me some basic effects (like the fade
to grey on logout, the trasparency when I drag a file on the folder
view, ecc ecc) without uses of GPU.

This workaround has worked well up to a week ago.
Now these basic effects as been lost and:
1) if I use
Option Composite 0
systemsettings shows me this inedit message:
desktop effects are not available on this system due to the following
technical issue: Required X Extensions (Xcomposite and Xdamage) are not
available

2) If I use
Option Composite 1
(or comment it with an #) I'm able to enable the desktop effects but
when this option is not checked I haven't the basic effects described
above.

I don't able to know what package has caused the problem (maybe
x11-common or other similar...) but I'm sure that this happens after
Sunday 13 May.

I have attached a .txt files who contains the outout of which-pkg-broke
kde-window-manager

Thanks at the mantainers for their work.
Francesco

Bug#607770: Kopete: add in wlm don't work properly

2010-12-21 Thread Francesco
Package: kopete
Version: 4:4.4.5-2
Severity: normal

The title could be not so clear. When someone add your contact in wlm you
receive a notification, and if you check the
add contact the contact isn't really added and you've to add manually to see
it online. As far as I noticed the
add works only for allowing other people to see you online.

2009-12-27 Thread Francesco
Package: kmix
Version: 4:4.3.2-1

The bug isn't kmix related but is, more likely, related to pulseaudio.
Notice bug #556971; I found some info related to pulseaudio in kde bugreports.
I solved uninstalling pulseaudio, in the bug i reported there
is an alternative solution.

Greetings,

  backtrace.

Hi! In order to try to determine the problem, I would like to ask you some
 questions:

Do you know how to reproduce it? Meaning: do you know which kind of
 messages trigger the crash?

As I tested the messages involved are all but offline ones (i receive
offline messages from my friend without a crash). I think it's just to send a
message from emesene to kopete; if it could be useful my friend is using
ubuntu (maybe useful for the version of emesene involved et similar)

Can you reproduce it with another user?

Not right now; but I'm about to update a laptop using amd64 and if it could
be useful...

Can you reproduce it with the kdenetwork-dbgand the libmsn0.1-dbg packages
 installed?

I need just the time to generate the backtrace again with the kdenetwork-dbg
(it was not installed when I generated mine) and to contact the person using
emesene

Take into account that the first one is a big package, but
allows us to have a complete backtrace of the bug.

No problem about the space, just a question of time to reproduce it.

Bug#378219: ark: should list the content of archives without open them on disk

2006-07-14 Thread Francesco Palermo
Package: ark
Version: 4:3.5.3-1
Severity: wishlist

When I open an archive I would like to see its content. But ark show the
list of files in the archive only after decompressing them on the local
disk.
On command line I can show the list of a tar gzipped archive with the simple
command 'tar tvf archive.tgz'. Why ark can't do the same?

Bye!

Problems with libqt3-mt-dev

2006-01-31 Thread Francesco Pedrini
Hi all
I've a problem with libqt-mt-dev and libgl1-mesa-dri:
I need libgl1-mesa-dri for the r300_dri.so library for 3d accel on an ibook
with ati 9550 (it' doesn't work very well but this is another story...) and I
need also libqt3-mt-dev and kdebase-dev that are needed as build-depends of
kmobiletools that I maintain.

When i try to install libqt3-mt-dev apt wants to remove the libgl1-mesa-dri:

Tarja:/home/mind# apt-get install libqt3-mt-dev
Lettura della lista dei pacchetti in corso... Fatto
Generazione dell'albero delle dipendenze in corso... Fatto

/* packages that will be installed */
I seguenti pacchetti verranno inoltre installati:
  libglu1-xorg libglu1-xorg-dev xlibmesa-gl xlibmesa-gl-dev

/* suggested packages */
Pacchetti suggeriti:
  libqt3-i18n xlibmesa-dri

/* packages that will be removed */
I seguenti pacchetti saranno RIMOSSI:
  --- libgl1-mesa-dri --- libglu1-mesa

I seguenti pacchetti NUOVI (NEW) saranno installati:
  libglu1-xorg libglu1-xorg-dev libqt3-mt-dev xlibmesa-gl xlibmesa-gl-dev
0 aggiornati, 5 installati, 2 da rimuovere e 48 non aggiornati.

i must use libgl1-mesa-dri because it is the only package that supply
r300_dri.so

what I can do in order to solve this problem? and, this is a potential bug of
libgl1-mesa or libqt3-mt-dev? maybe of both?

thanks in advance
francesco

p.s.: sorry for my awfull english

Dunno if you are waiting for c++ transition completion, anyway current
sid version is not installable. Any reason to not move the experimental
one in the sid pool? That's just for notice.
