[Desktop-packages] [Bug 965474] Re: update-software-center crashed with ImportError in _get_distro(): No module named EasyPeasy
Hi Jerry, and thank you for your bug report. In fact, the version of Software Center that we ship in Ubuntu does not directly support EasyPeasy as a distro, and that's what is causing this crash (we currently ship with support for Debian and Ubuntu only). I'm not a user of EasyPeasy, but I think you would want to report the bug to the EasyPeasy devs directly. Based on this, I'll close this bug as invalid. Please feel free to reopen if you feel this needs further attention on the Ubuntu side. It appears in one long line which exceeds the width of my screen. See http://www.warwick.ac.uk/~edrdh/images/OOo_footnote_problem.png for an image of the problem. As I said, my footnotes/endnote are big. I would like to read them without having to go the end of page/document back and fort for reading them. 25-35% of the width of screen size boxes with enough distances from the edges would work great. (MSWord outcome for the same behaviour can be seen here: http://www.warwick.ac.uk/~edrdh/images/Intended_outcome.png I hope you will sort this out soon. Thanks in advance. Hence, in cases where a user wants to use different locales for language respective formats, LC_MESSAGES, LC_CTYPE and LC_COLLATE has been set explicitly. Consequently the installer has set those three variables in /etc/default/locale when applicable. In Precise we are making a conceptual change, meaning that LANG now is considered to represent the display language, and the formats related LC_* variables are set explicitly when needed to distinguish between language and formats. As mentioned at bug #590108, this is the rationale for the switch: * It's how GNOME does it in g-c-c, and considering that we are moving towards replacing the language-selector UI with Region and Language in g-c-c, it would eliminate one of the current differences in approach between Ubuntu and GNOME. * There seems to be quite a few desktop apps/tools, or parts of apps, that ignore both LANGUAGE and LC_MESSAGES for the display language, and let LANG solely determine the display language. (My LANG usually contains a Swedish locale, while my display language is English, and I often see Swedish translations in dialogs and menus.) * Some distributions may prefer the simplistic approach to equal l10n with simply picking a locale name and assigning it to LANG. If we would switch to let LANG represent the language, the LANG variable would be used for language all over, which would reduce the risk for confusion with respect to locale/language settings. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 949436] Re: Software-center opens wrong browser when the Programmer's website is clicked on the aplication view
Hello Nuno! You may not describe yourself as a programmer, but I must say that you did a fine job of investigating and providing info for this bug. Based on the info you provided, I think we can take it from here and investigate the underlying issue and the best way to fix this for software-center. You can follow this report for updates, etc. Thanks again! ** Changed in: software-center (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/949436 Title: Software-center opens wrong browser when the Programmer's website is clicked on the aplication view Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Although I'm not a programmer I did a little research on the bug. The software-center uses the python module webbrowser to open the url which should always open the correct browser, but in my system it open Chromium instead of Firefox. checked with: gconftool --get /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http/command firefox %s So I opened a python console and tested the webbrowser.open('google.com') and still opens chromium instead of firefox. Browsing through the webbrowser module's source code found the in gnome environments it tries to use the gnome-open command which is not available in Precise Pangolin. When installed the needed packages everything works as expected. Thus I'm almost sure that the problem isn't in the Software Center but I've reached the limit of my skills to track down this small bug and decided to report it here where I first detected it. The real Problem with this is that after selecting one of the virtual Desktops or Windows unity switches to the desired virtual Desktop and the Windows are somehow deactivated and dont react. only the Super+W and Super+S works and after playing around with them a bit the system continues to work normal again. how Im trying to reproduce this: 1) have kazam running in background 2) have World of Warcraft running inside wine (maybe another Game does the job too so at least have wine running) 3) press Super+W and hold the Super key pressed 4) with still holding the Super Key press Super+S ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: unity 5.6.0-0ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-18.29-generic 3.2.9 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-18-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia .proc.driver.nvidia.gpus.0: Error: [Errno 21] Ist ein Verzeichnis: '/proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/0' .proc.driver.nvidia.registry: Binary: .proc.driver.nvidia.version: NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 295.20 Mon Feb 6 21:07:30 PST 2012 GCC version: gcc-Version 4.6.3 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.3-1ubuntu3) .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 1.94.1-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, place, regex, gnomecompat, imgpng, mousepoll, vpswitch, move, resize, grid, snap, animation, wall, fade, scale, session, unitymtgrabhandles, expo, workarounds, ezoom, unityshell] CompositorRunning: compiz Date: Sat Mar 17 14:59:52 2012 DistUpgraded: Log time: 2012-03-14 14:21:01.971859 DistroCodename: precise DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: nvidia-current-updates, 295.20, 3.0.0-16-generic, x86_64: installed nvidia-current-updates, 295.20, 3.2.0-18-generic, x86_64: installed virtualbox, 4.1.8, 3.2.0-18-generic, x86_64: installed GraphicsCard: NVIDIA Corporation G92 [GeForce 9800 GTX] [10de:0612] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot - Release amd64 (20111012) JockeyStatus: xorg:nvidia_current - Beschleunigter Grafiktreiber von NVIDIA (Proprietär, Deaktiviert, Nicht benutzt) xorg:nvidia_current_updates - NVIDIAs beschleunigte Grafiktreiber (Nachträgliche Aktualisierungen) (Proprietär, Aktiviert, In Benutzung) MachineType: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO.,LTD MS-7395 ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-18-generic root=UUID=56d23492-5b0c-4d10-9428-c7f00aa1231f ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: unity UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to precise on 2012-03-14 (2 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 11/06/2008 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: V1.4 dmi.board.asset.tag: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.board.name: MS-7395 dmi.board.vendor: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO.,LTD dmi.board.version: 1.0 dmi.chassis.asset.tag: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.chassis.vendor: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO.,LTD dmi.chassis.version: 1.0 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvrV1.4:bd11/06/2008:svnMICRO-STARINTERNATIONALCO.,LTD:pnMS-7395:pvr1.0:rvnMICRO-STARINTERNATIONALCO.,LTD:rnMS-7395:rvr1.0:cvnMICRO-STARINTERNATIONALCO.,LTD:ct3:cvr1.0: dmi.product.name: MS-7395 dmi.product.version: 1.0 dmi.sys.vendor: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO.,LTD version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.7.0+bzr3035-0ubuntu1 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs 20090808ubuntu34 version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.30-1ubuntu1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 8.0.1-0ubuntu4 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 8.0.1-0ubuntu4 version.nvidia-graphics-drivers: nvidia-graphics-drivers N/A version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.11.4-0ubuntu6 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.7.0-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.14.99~git20111219.aacbd629-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20111201+b5534a1-1build2 To manage notifications about this bug go to:

Hi nicola, and thank you for your bug report. Could you please try updating your system to the latest current version so that you will have software-center version 5.1.13.1, and then retry your review to see if you still have the error? If indeed this operation still fails with the latest version, could you please try running Software Center from a terminal window as follows: $ software-center And then try again to write the review. Please paste any output in the terminal to this bug report. That will help us to investigate this bug further. Thanks! However, one question I can easily google: http://askubuntu.com/questions/15520/how-can-i-tell-ubuntu-to-do- nothing-when-i-close-my-laptop-lid And I'd be concerned about userspace crashing like that upon resume... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/524830 Title: problems triggered when I open the laptop lid Status in Gnome Settings Daemon: Fix Released Status in X.Org X server: Confirmed Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “xserver-xorg-input-evdev” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon The problems I have are minor, and are not present if gnome-settings-daemon is not running. On pc Debian x86-64, with 3.5 branch, I didn't reproduce this behaviour. I selected E-Mail as PDF and it launched Icedove. (In reply to comment #5) Using as a WORKAROUND: {} newline {} is acceptable in the all the cases mentioned in the Description. Not always {} newline {}. You use {} when you need to provide the missing operand of a binary operator. For example, a+b_ij newline = c+d # left-hand side is missing at the second line a+b_ij newline {} = c+d # add {} - OK a+b_ij = newline c+d # right-hand side is missing at the first line a+b_ij = {} newline = c+d # add {} - OK And from my point of view, the requirement - provide all operands, otherwise there will be the flipped question mark - is simply awful, it would be a great improvement to get rid of it. newline's behavior will be much more intuitive. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281053 Title: [Upstream] Math equation editor: newline fails after symbols Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite: Fix Released Status in The OpenOffice.org Suite: In Progress Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “openoffice.org” package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: 1) lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 11.10 Release: 11.10 2) apt-cache policy libreoffice-writer libreoffice-writer: Installed: 1:3.4.3-3ubuntu2 Candidate: 1:3.4.3-3ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1:3.4.3-3ubuntu2 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status apt-cache policy libreoffice-math libreoffice-math: Installed: 1:3.4.3-3ubuntu2 Candidate: 1:3.4.3-3ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1:3.4.3-3ubuntu2 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3) What is expected to happen in LibreOffice Writer via the Terminal: cd ~/Desktop wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/281053/+attachment/2417117/+files/math_newline_issue.tar.gz file-roller -h math_newline_issue.tar.gz cd math_newline_issue lowriter -nologo math_newline_issue.odt is no upside down question marks are presented in the Math formulas. 4) What happens is the upside down question marks are present erroneously due to newline command. Ivan Timofeev, thank you for taking a look at this. Using as a WORKAROUND: {} newline {} is acceptable in the all the cases mentioned in the Description. However, this report is about addressing how the use of newline does not have caveats as per the documentation: http://help.libreoffice.org/Math/Format http://help.libreoffice.org/Math/Entering_Line_Breaks So, any of the original of the examples provided in the Description are valid and should work, but not all do. It would be beneficial for newline be changed to work according to the expectation mentioned in the Description. As well, having newline's idiosyncrasies documented in the meantime would be nice for others who fall down the same hole. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281053 Title: [Upstream] Math equation editor: newline fails after symbols Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite: Fix Released Status in The OpenOffice.org Suite: In Progress Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “openoffice.org” package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: 1) lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 11.10 Release: 11.10 2) apt-cache policy libreoffice-writer libreoffice-writer: Installed: 1:3.4.3-3ubuntu2 Candidate: 1:3.4.3-3ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1:3.4.3-3ubuntu2 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status apt-cache policy libreoffice-math libreoffice-math: Installed: 1:3.4.3-3ubuntu2 Candidate: 1:3.4.3-3ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1:3.4.3-3ubuntu2 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3) What is expected to happen in LibreOffice Writer via the Terminal: cd ~/Desktop wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/281053/+attachment/2417117/+files/math_newline_issue.tar.gz file-roller -h math_newline_issue.tar.gz cd math_newline_issue lowriter -nologo math_newline_issue.odt is no upside down question marks are presented in the Math formulas. 4) What happens is the upside down question marks are present erroneously due to newline command. Status in Unity: Fix Released Status in “indicator-appmenu” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Scenario: I have configured several profiles in gnome-terminal for ssh-connections to different hosts. Now I'd like to open a new tab with a specific profile. Steps to reproduce: Press Alt to open hud, then enter a few letters from the profile name. For some profiles, “Open tab“ shows up as the first result, and for others it is “Open terminal”. Now take the latter case (see attached screen shot), but I want to open a new tab, not a window. So after entering part of the profile name, I press the down arrow to select “Open tab”, and then the Return key. Expected result: A new tab opens with the selected profile. Actual result: A now tab *and* a new window opens, so apparently the first *and* the second entry have been executed. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 214366]
Created attachment 609152 proof of concept patch I managed to strip the patch down and update it for the current architecture. I need feedback from David Bienvenu if this is a good direction and reaction to the points below. What it does: - it does work to fix the problem as reported. - if the folder 'Folder' is already existing in Trash, this will try to move it as 'Folder2', 'Folder3' (to fix comment 8). What it is missing for now: - if CopyFolderLocal is used not only for moving to trash then this renaming functionality must be done only if isChildOfTrash is true. - it doesn't have the alert dialog informing the user the folder was renamed. Problems: - for some reason when a folder is deleted and then a new folder with the same name is created in its place, then it can't be deleted, without any error. It that is some other known bug or a bug in this code? After TB restart that same folder can be deleted fine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/214366 Title: Can't delete a folder if Trash already contains a folder of the same name Status in Mozilla Thunderbird Mail and News: In Progress Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird 1. Yes, that does really happen :) Delete 'Folder', 'Folder', and 'Folder1'. I do not want that but I do not care much. I implement whatever the UI guys decide. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 129219]
Here's the code that constructs and opens the folder path: https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/file/ae8de2241732/xpcom/io/nsLocalFileUnix.cpp#l1819 Note that it is not passed directly to Nautilus on the command line, but instead goes through gnome_vfs_url_show_with_env(). We can't just pass a filename to that function, because that will open the file itself in its app (rather than showing it in Nautilus). However we fix this, we should also make sure that it does not break badly on old versions of Nautilus. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129219 Title: firefox download manager - Open containing folder with preselected file in nautilus/file manager Status in The Mozilla Firefox Browser: Confirmed Status in “firefox-3.5” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Binary package hint: firefox After a right click on a downloaded file in the download manager, when you choose Open containing folder it just open the file manager Nautilus in the folder of the file.
