  SRU: Update gnome-settings-daemon to 3.22.1

Status in gnome-settings-daemon package in Ubuntu:

Status in gnome-settings-daemon source package in Yakkety:
  Fix Committed
Status in gnome-settings-daemon source package in Zesty:
  New

Bug description:
  NOTE

  This update is not needed in the release images

  Impact
  ==
  gnome-settings-daemon 3.22.1 is a new bugfix release in the stable 3.22 series

  - Fixes crash when sharing plugin exits (LP: #1630853)
  - Fix issue where screen was not blanked when locked after screensaver was
inhibited
  - And a few other minor things

  https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-settings-daemon/tree/NEWS?h=gnome-3-22
  https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-settings-daemon/log?h=gnome-3-22

  Test Case
  =
  Ensure automatic screen locking still works
  Check for a gnome-settings-daemon crash after log out and log back in

  I wasn't able to reproduce the two bugs here in my testing. Maybe my
  media player doesn't bother inhibiting the screensaver?

  Regression Potential
  ===
  Low. This update will be included in all GNOME 3.22 distros.
  Ubuntu GNOME is the only Ubuntu flavor that uses gnome-settings-daemon now,
except for the shared schemas which were not touched in this update.

I finally found out why the installed Applications were not showing up.
Check for Filters options while searching and select the Applications
button.

Mine was not selected so it was listing due to filters applied.

Bug description:
  I've experienced this strange issue 4-5 times after OTA-12. It seems pretty
random and is hard to reproduce.
  When I get an incoming call, the screen turns on, the incoming call pop up
appears, but there is no sound at all even though the phone is not in silent
mode (and also the speaker volume is not set too low). I can accept this call
and keep conversing as usual.
  Once I asked the same caller to call me once again after a few minutes, that
time the phone rang as expected.

  Device: E5, OTA-12, stable channel

  I can provide necessary logs if this happens again. Which ones should
  I gather?

  Possibly related to bug #1614943.

  UPDATE: As mentioned in comment #7, it seems the phone rings for a
  fraction of a second and then the sound pauses abruptly.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1573720] Re: Unencrypted private keys are insecure error reported even when key is encrypted

2016-10-18 Thread Krzysztof Puch
I work on Ubuntu 16.04 with all recent updates, but I still keep getting
a series of this same messages:

"Unencrypted private keys are insecure - The selected private key does
not appear to be protected by a password."

when I edit settings to the company's WiFi:
Security:WPA Enterprise
Authentication: TLS
+ password protected key

When I "okey" through all the messages and try to connect to the WiFi -
I wait some time and then get the messages all over again.

  I have verified that my key is, in fact, encrypted, and I have tried
  using both des3 and aes256. I have also verified the password used to

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1633757] Re: Update file-roller to 3.22.1

2016-10-18 Thread Martin Pitt
Hello Jeremy, or anyone else affected,

Accepted file-roller into yakkety-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file-
roller/3.22.1-0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to

  Test Case
  ==
  Make sure that you can still open, extract and create .zip and .tar.xz files.

  To check if the additional archive bug is fixed:
  1. From the Files app (Nautilus), double click on an archive to open it with
file-roller
  2. Double click another archive to open it. The second archive should
display. Before the fix, the second archive window would be blank.

  Regression Potential

  Low. The stable 3.22 series is actively supported and this update will be
included in all 3.22 distros.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1634442] [NEW] GUI session crashes on boot

2016-10-18 Thread Joost Ringoot
Public bug reported:

I am trying to run Weston Wayland X server, in an attempt to get decent
graphics performance.

This is about an NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1060 (driver from PPA
https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa `nvidia-370`
(370.28)) and a Phillips bdm4065uc.

Performance tests with 4k video are horrible in standard mir-xorg,
lightdm/gdm,  unity and gnome  sessions.

But I noticed performance is excellent when running steamOS (debian 8.6 based),
this one uses XWayland.
So I tried to get the same on Ubuntu but failed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1034928] Re: Fontconfig warning: Having multiple values in isn't supported and may not works as expected

2016-10-18 Thread Jim Cline
This bug is easy to fix. For example, it will be caused by a section
like this:

  zh-cn
  zh-sg

The correct syntax would be

  zh-cn

  zh-sg

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I upgraded my laptop to 16.10 yesterday. Sometimes after suspend I
  have network issues, one time I was not able to connect to a wifi
  network (might report another bug if this occurees again, but maybe it
  is related, as in network-manager is in some broken state after
  suspend).

  Here is whats happening pretty often: After resume from suspend I have
  a solid network connection, no problem to ping machines in LAN or on
  the internet. But DNS resolution is broken until I restart the
  network-manager service.

  I ran ubuntu-bug while DNS was broken, so if anything gets log-ed it

2016-10-18 15:22:56 MSK [5580-2] LOG: database system is shut down

# Why it is happens

pg_ctlcluster check cluster is running through psql

pg_ctlcluster contain func with name cluster_port_ready check:

  while ($n < ($result ? 10 : 3)) {
select undef, undef, undef, 0.5;
$out = `$psql -h '$sd' --port $p -l 2>&1 > /dev/null`;

print STDERR "PSQL res: $out $?\n";

if ($? == $result) {
$n++;
} else {
$n = 0;
}
$result = $?;
}

That func check error code after executing psql. Max 10 times with
interval 0.5s, so 5s is maximum time to postmaster restoring after
crashing. After that pg_ctlcluster return exit code 1 and systemd send
SIGTERM to postgres.

But postmaster cannot accept any connection during restore procedure

postmaser.c:2164
case CAC_STARTUP:
ereport(FATAL,
(errcode(ERRCODE_CANNOT_CONNECT_NOW),
 errmsg("the database system is
starting up")));
break;

# How to fix

Increase timeout ?

Check message during connect: FATAL: the database system is starting up
?

Determine state of recovery and wait when done ?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1634490] Re: Pattern drawn over dialog title bars obscures title

2016-10-18 Thread Reuben Thomas
I installed LibreOffice 5.2 from the libreoffice/ppa PPA, and that seems
to fix the bug. However, I obviously can't tell whether the bug is fixed
in Ubuntu proper, unless the packages from the PPA are adopted precisely
as-is!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1627534] Re: Keeps resetting homepage to start.ubuntu-mate.org

2016-10-18 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Doing a recursive grep under /usr, the only file containing this
particular URL is /usr/lib/firefox/ubuntumate.cfg, shipped by the
ubuntu-mate-default-settings package.

Attempting to purge this package says it'll install debian-mate-default-
settings instead, and remove mate-core, mate-desktop-environment-core
and a few others as well. So apparently this package is needed in order
to have Mate available as an alternate desktop environment.

  Since the Xenial -> Yakkety beta upgrade, firefox resets its homepage

  I use the default Unity 7 desktop, no Mate whatsoever. (I might have
  started up Mate once or twice for a very short period, way before even
  upgrading to Xenial.)

  Happened both with firefox-49 package as shipped by Xenial, as well as
  firefox-48 that's currently in Yakkety beta (I purged and then
  reinstalled the package to get the one matching the distro, rather
  than the latest).

  No startup wrapper script or something like that should mess with my

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1634412] Re: Unity8 session fails to start due to unity-system-compositor

2016-10-18 Thread Guillaume F
Is there any more log I can provide that could shed a light on this?
This bug is very easily reproducible on my computer, so I should be able
to provide relevant logs!

My computer is not a fresh install and has been upgraded every step of
the way since 14.10. I'll try a LiveUSB of 16.10 to see if the problem
persists.

  Hi,

  I've upgraded to 16.10 to try out the latest and the greatest.
  Unfortunately, the Unity8 session does not work anymore. It was
  working as expected on 16.04 with the overlay PPA.

  When I select "Unity8" in lightdm and enter my password, the password
  box disappears, and nothing else happens. I can still access all the
  indicators, so lightdm is not completely frozen. I then have to reboot
  or restart lightdm in tty1 to log in Unity 7.

  I do have a "system problem detected" warning and I did send the
  report, but I can't find it on Launchpad, that's why I'm filing this
  bug manually.

  I'm using Ubuntu 16.10 64bits, with the opensource radeon driver.

  Further info from the automatic bug report:
  Title : unity-system-compositor crashed with SIGABRT in
__gnu_cxx::__verbose_terminate_handler()

  I'm attaching some logs that might be useful.

  Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1634412] Re: Unity8 session fails to start due to unity-system-compositor

2016-10-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I can't reproduce any such problem on a pure 16.10 install. The error:

  what(): option cannot be specified more than once

implies that your lightdm is passing an extra option when it executes
the unity-system-compositor command.

  Title : unity-system-compositor crashed with SIGABRT in
__gnu_cxx::__verbose_terminate_handler()

  I'm attaching some logs that might be useful.

  Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1567578] Re: libnl should be updated to support up to 63 VFs per single PF

2016-10-18 Thread Bjoern Teipel
The biggest issue the libnl upgrade will fix are the following libvirt
errors with 3.13.0 LTS kernel:

internal error: missing IFLA_VF_INFO in netlink response

Hence the package should be updated. I had those issues with the xenial LTS
kernel too until the libnl was updated

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 14.04.4 and SRIOV settings.

  As already documented in https://bugs.launchpad.net/mos/+bug/1501738
  there is a bug in the default libnl library release installed on
  Ubuntu 14.04.4

  The library release is the 3.2.21-1 and the bug is impacting on the
  maximum VFs number that can be enabled (up to 30) even if the PF
  supports up to 63 VFs in an Openstack SRIOV configuration

  The workaround is to install a newer library release, the 3.2.24-2:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1634598] [NEW] gnome-online-accounts Problems on Wayland

2016-10-18 Thread Christopher
Public bug reported:

When using gnome-online-accounts + wayland.

When tshooting [LP1610944](https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1610944) I
noticed that you can't add a google account that utilizes customizations
from [Google's Identity
Platform](https://developers.google.com/identity/). This is used by many
Google Apps for Work systems (including mine). This however does work on
gnome with X. I believe this is a wayland specific issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1634353] Re: file index is not responding

2016-10-18 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html.

We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description
of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:

1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Are you sure that the bug needs reporting against the xorg package?

Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1634354] [NEW] Copy and paste keyboard shortcuts on right click menu do not work

2016-10-18 Thread Chris McFarland
Public bug reported:

Copy and Paste with the C and P keys on the right click menu does not
work in GNOME Terminal 3.18.3 (included with Ubuntu 16.04). The ability
to copy and paste this way used to work in the version of GNOME Terminal
included with Ubuntu 14.04 (3.6.2, I think?), so this is a regression
from that version.

The keys for the other menu options (Open Terminal (T), Profiles (R),
Read-Only (O), Show Menubar (M)) can be restored by going into
preferences and activating the checkbox for "Enable mnemonics (such as
Alt+F to open the File menu)" -- however, copy and paste are not
included.

I frequently paste using the menu key (menu key, P), so this is a very
annoying bug that I run into every day now that I've upgraded from
14.04.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS

 *** 3.18.3-1ubuntu1 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages

Expect to happen:

Pressing P when the right-click context menu is open should paste from
the clipboard. Pressing C when the menu is open should copy selected
text to the clipboard.

What happened instead:

No response when pressing the keys. No underline for an alternate key is
shown either. Presumably the shortcuts ("mnemonics"?) for these entries
are missing in the code.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1634614] [NEW] CPU usage spikes and mouse flicker

2016-10-18 Thread Tejeev
Public bug reported:

I am experiencing cpu usage spikes with xorg where everything will lag
for about a second. Seems to happen every minute or few.

Other possibly related symptoms:
  Seeing flickering of the mouse pointer when it's over certain interactive
fields or just at the top of my laptop monitor.
  Experiencing screen tearing in a diagonal line across second monitor
  When I set up the second monitor, backgrounds fail to display. Changing
background fixes.
  Sometimes the second monitor just starts flicking off and on.

Setup:
Just upgraded from 16.04 to 16.10 (didn't see any of this on previous version)
Using a second monitor connected via display port
USB mouse and keyboard connected.

Title:
  CPU usage spikes and mouse flicker

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I am experiencing cpu usage spikes with xorg where everything will lag
  for about a second. Seems to happen every minute or few.

  Other possibly related symptoms:
Seeing flickering of the mouse pointer when it's over certain interactive
fields or just at the top of my laptop monitor.
Experiencing screen tearing in a diagonal line across second monitor
When I set up the second monitor, backgrounds fail to display. Changing
background fixes.
Sometimes the second monitor just starts flicking off and on.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1629620] Re: DNS resolver stops accepting queries

2016-10-18 Thread Joshua Anderson
I noticed this issue on one of the two computers I upgraded from xenial
to yakkety. Specifically the affected computer was an 2016 Dell XPS 13.
They're both similarly configured ubuntu installations with Broadcom
nics, so it's curious that this only affects one of them. I'm not sure
what debug information would be helpful, but I'm happy to provide
anything that would be useful.

  DNS resolver stops accepting queries

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:

  Address:  127.0.1.1#53

  ** server can't find google.com: REFUSED

  This is on an up to date yakkety install. Changing resolv.conf to use
8.8.8.8, or restarting network-manager appears to fix this, at least until it

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1610944] Re: Can't add any online accounts

2016-10-18 Thread Christopher
I found a partial workaround. If you remove the account from online
accounts and then reboot. Then you can successfully re-add the account.
The account will work until you log out again. Then you will need to
remove/reboot.

I think there might be a problem with how accounts are stored. This
wasn't an issue in 16.04 so I'm pretty sure it's a new bug added with
16.10.

  I didn't have this problem with the previous version of Skype. I tried to
desinstall and install Skype form the Ubuntu Softwer Center but no change. The

works fine with another program called guvcview.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1634369] [NEW] no longer able to resolve .local names in Yakkety

2016-10-18 Thread voidvector
Public bug reported:

This maybe a configuration mismatch between gvfs and dnsmasq.

I am running Xubuntu on Yakkety
I have a Synology DiskStation (a NAS), which provides a Samba share. I have a
DD-WRT router (has dnsmasq be default). Both are on near default setting.

In Xenial, I was able to navigate to the DiskStation via Thunar ->
Browse Network -> DiskStation. In Yakkety, I am able to see the
DiskStation, however I got the following error when trying to access it:

Failed to open "DISKSTATION"
Failed to retrieve share list from server: Connection Refused.

After some digging, I found that `gvfs-tree network:///` showed the
following

```
network:///
|-- dnssd-domain-DISKSTATION._smb._tcp -> smb://DiskStation.local:445/
`-- smb-root -> smb:///
```

In Xenial, I am able to ping DiskStation.local, but in Yakkety, it does
not resolve to anything.

There is no problem with `gvfs-mount smb://DiskStation/` or typing
`smb://DiskStation/` into Thunar's address bar.

>From what I gathered Yakkety desktop comes with dnsmasq installed. This
may be a bug with dnsmasq configuration, or gvfs's interaction with it.

** Affects: gvfs (Ubuntu)

Title:
  Since upgrade to Gnome Ubuntu 16.10, my mouse is slow and cursor small
  on gnome shell menus

Status in gnome-settings-daemon package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I upgraded 2 days ago to Gnome Ubuntu 16.10.
  Since then, my mouse is 2x slower and my cursor is 2x smaller...:
  - during Gnome startup (about 1 or 2 seconds on my system)
  - on Gnome Shell menus

  The cursor gets back to normal after I open a GTK application (such as
Nautilus, but not Google Chrome). But the mouse is still slow anyway.
  I have an Asus UX305 with an HiDPI screen (3200x1800).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1026046] Re: Missing support for thumb resting on bottom of clickpad

Trackpad works flawlessly on my ASUS Zenbook UX32VD except for this one
issue. It makes it incredibly frustrating to use the laptop. Tested on
Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS.

Bug description:
  When using the trackpad on the MacBook Pro In Mac OS X it is possible to have
the thumb resting (ready to click) on the bottom part of the touchpad while
moving the mouse pointer around with your index or middle finger.
  Likewise it is also possible to use two finger scrolling with the index and
middle finger on the upper part on the track pad while resting the thumb on the
lower part of the trackpad.

  This behaviour is not currently supported with the synaptics driver in
  12.04. It wil register a two finger scroll when the thumb is resting
  in the bottom part and index finger moves around in the upper part.

  I have tried playing aroud with the setting AreaBottomEdge that
  disables all motion on the bottom part of the touchpad. Unfortunately
  when this setting is enabled it still detects a finger in the area, so
  it wil register a two finger scroll like before.

  - Fix bug that prevented opening additional archives when file-roller was
already open
  - Handle Source RPMs. Don't handle Comic Book archives.
  - Fixes for working with archives on remote computers
  - Translation fixes

  Test Case
  ==

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:
  1. On Ubuntu 15.4 or 15.10, install or build libreoffice 5.1
  2. Open a tabbed dialog box such Format->Paragraph

  Note the text is white on light gray, which is very hard to read. In
  Fedora or Debian, when you select a "dark" theme, the tabs are
  rendered as white text on a black background. In Ubuntu other UI
  elements such as the toolbar and context menus are rendered the same
  as Debian's dark theme(white text on black).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1442050] Re: (colord:832): Cd-WARNING **: failed to get session [pid 690]: Unknown error -2

2016-10-18 Thread Not Martin Wimpress
Regarding: "Aug 8 06:38:33 tau systemd[1]: Started CUPS Scheduler.
Aug 8 06:38:33 tau colord[2924]: (colord:2924): Cd-WARNING **: failed to get
session [pid 12325]: No such device or address"

This bug is successfully resolved by removing "samba" and "samba-common"
in synaptic. Apparently colord has severe issues with printer sharing
when the device is not longer available (possibly by default gufw
rules.)
