Title:
Rhythmbox 9.8.0 missing dependency on libsoup version 2.2.99 or
  greater

Status in Rhythmbox:
  Expired
Status in rhythmbox package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: rhythmbox

The Rhythmbox 0.9.8-0ubuntu2 package does not declare its requirement
  for libsoup2.2-8 2.2.99 properly.

I am running edgy and using prevu I backported Rhythmbox. It failed
the first time due to an unmet libgpod dependency, so I backported
that. Then the Rhythmbox backport completed and installed correctly.
Rhythmbox seems to work correctly, but when I try to connect to my mt-
daapd (DAAP server, same as Rhythmbox's sharing) shared media it
fails. This is due to an old version of libsoup. Once libsoup is
backported from edgy everything works great.

Rhythmbox 0.9.8-0ubuntu2 should declare a dependency on libsoup2.2-8
2.2.99 or greater so that you cannot install or backport it without
  libsoup.

I'm sure this is not a huge issue when looking at the whole distro,
but it is inconsistent for this package and should be fixed.

Same issue on Rhythmbox mailing list: http://mail.gnome.org/archives
  /rhythmbox-devel/2007-February/msg1.html

Rockbox support should be added to rhythmbox. An upstream bug has
already been reported, I'm just putting it here, becuase it affects
  Ubuntu too.

Here are some of the ideas put forwards in the upstream bug:
   * File layout
   * Metadata/tag cache
   * Last.fm submission
   * Playlists
   * Not converting files

Title:
Option -ProfileManager does not work without (bogus) -u

Status in Mozilla Firefox:
  Unknown
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Opinion

Bug description:
You need a secret extra option if you want to run the Firefox profile
  manager.

  Steps to repro:

  bash$ firefox -ProfileManager &

  Expected outcome:

New Firefox instance displaying the Profile Manager dialog box

  Actual outcome:

New Firefox browser window in your current default profile, existing
Firefox instance if one was running

  Workaround:

  bash$ firefox -u bugger -ProfileManager &

The -u option is not visible e.g. in firefox --help output, but
somehow it actually exists, and allows you to work around this problem
(can't remember where I discovered it, Google no doubt?).

The -u option requires an argument (apparently, a profile name) but
you can put anything there, it doesn't seem to matter.

I'm sorry if this is a duplicate, this problem has existed since
basically forever but I was unable to find a report in Launchpad.

  Historical proof:

  * From 2009: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1323430
  * From 2011: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=9=2359133

  * Win 2011: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/807487
  * Alternative workaround, haven't tried:
http://www.usmessageboard.com/computers/85692-firefox-profile-manager-in-ubuntu.html
 (hopelessly meandering thread, don't open)

  Possibly relevant upstream bugs:

  * https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=317903
  * https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=297470 (duplicate of less

  * https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=264181
  * https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=297618 (duplicate of unobvious
bug)

If the intention is that -ProfileManager is not available, it should
not be displayed in --help (but that would be a pity). If it is
  supported, it should work (duh).

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

  With Ubuntu 8.04

Firefox 3.0 has extremely slow Ajax/Javascript performance (I'm not
sure exactly what). Probably CSS related.

#1 Gmail scrolls very slowly (compare this by switching gmail to HTML
version at the bottom of inbox)

#2 Javascript images open/close/transition extremely slow
  examples:
http://www.shacknews.com/ (images near the top of page,
when transitioning, bring FF3.0 to its knees)
   http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/downloads/ssotd/#latest
(images opening and switching to next one)
   http://www.transmissionbt.com/screenshots.php (opening
and closing images are very choppy)

There are many more, those are just a few.

I have both enabled and disabled Compiz but the problem is still
there. I am not a web developer and can't pinpoint exactly what sort
of code is causing the extreme slowness but I have tested it on
multiple machines to make sure. I have compared it to my Windows XP
dual boot box and the difference is night and day so it is definitely
a Linux issue. Also on a Mac OS 10.4 machine its noticeably faster.

  This bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/217580
Is similar but only deals with Gmail, it is now known to be widespread issue.
With performance this slow Firefox 3.0 beta should never have been the default
browser. Unless its just the few machines I've used of course.

Thank you for all your hard work on Firefox. I have one suggestion for
improving. When restoring a session or going back and forth in history and
hitting a page that is the result of a POST action, Firefox pops up a warning
that any performed action will be repeated. This is good. Alas, the program
  is rather vague.

Wouldn't it be possible to give more information than just "this page"? At
least tell the user the domain where the page is hosted. That way it is
possible to make a more informed decision even when opening ~100 tabs on
  Firefox restart (I'm a tab junkie ;-))

when adding music to my ipod shuffle I discovered if rhythmbox

When waking up the PC screen from standby, quite often the screen freezes for

I can't move the mouse or type anything. After a while, it unfreezes.

I'm discovering a bug when printing complex PDFs or other complex
documents from GTK applications. Printing complex PDFs from evince, or
sometimes even printing comples webpages from firefox result in one
error page being printed instead of the document content:

  +-+
  | ERROR NAME;|
  | undefined|
  | COMMAND; |
  | Q|
  | OPERAND STACK; |
  +-+

My printer is a Brother HL 5270DN. It doesn't matter whether the
printer is connected via USB or as network printer. In both cases the
described bug does happen. The PPD I use is "Brother HL-5270DN BR-
Script3", similar to the one at
  http://www.openprinting.org/download/PPD/Brother/BR5270_2_GPL.ppd

I discovered this bug in up-to-date Debian unstable for several years
already. Now I switched one of my laptops to Ubuntu Natty (fresh
installation), and unfortunately discovered the same bug there as
  well.

I'm pretty sure that this bug is related to bug #419143, and not
really in CUPS, but rather in some library (poppler or cairo) used by
GTK applications. The same PDFs that produce the described error in
  evince, print fine in okular.

I attach an example PDF that doesn't print in evince, but prints fine
in okular. It's sufficient to (try to) print page 1 of the document.

Bug description:

1- If you left-click on the dropdown button to the left of the URL
bar, and then click on an URL, you're taken to that address.

2 - If you click on the button, then MIDDLE-CLICK on the URL, firefox
opens it on a new tab.

Something I usually do is clicking the dropdown button and keep
pressed, then release the button when I'm over the desired URL that
allows me to perform operation no.1 with just one click.

I would like to be able to perform operation no.2 with just one click
too, that is, MIDDLE-CLICKING the dropdown button and keep pressed,
then release when I'm over the desired URL to open it on a new tab.
But it seems middle-clicking the dropdown button has no effect at all.

  Steps to Reproduce:
  1. middle click and hold the dropdown history button at the right of the URL
bar

  Actual Results:
  nothing happens

  Expected Results:
  a. History shows (as if left mouse button was clicked).
  b. Pointer can be moved down to chosen URL in the history shown, while holding
  middle button.
  c. Releasing middle button at chosen URL opens URL in new tab.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: firefox

  Hi,
Updating the list of trusted root certificate authorities across all users of
a system seems requires rebuilding a library. Non-root certificates may
similarly be impacted.

update-ca-certificates could be a mechanism to update the root
  certificates used by firefox.

On a corporate install of firefox, currently the only options to adding an
internal root certificate authority are to:
 * Hack it into the user creation script to extract a pre-created profile,
and update all the existing users profile directory. This bypasses the random
profile directory creation.
 * Re-compile the shared library (.so) containing the root certificate
authorities (extra maintenance for dealing with ubuntu package updates).
 * Have every user of the system go through a manual process of adding the
root certificate (most users don't know how).
 * Use a plugin extension for firefox (do any exist?) that is automatically
used by all users (can this be done?)
 * Have the root certificate signed at great expense by an external root
certificate authority already included. CaCert integration would lower the cost
but that seems far away, and is still an external authority. These root
certificates also might be limited to a single domain (wildcard certificate?)
or have other limitations ("low" expiry?, contractual restrictions...).

It seems unlikely that Mozilla will move away from having the root
certificates stored in the shared library as it would take some
control away from them. The shared libary method makes it harder for
malicious changes to be made, but only by adding the barier of
recompilation and installation of a shared library.

  Thanks,

   Drew Daniels

My music library is stored as FLAC. I have a Nokia N770 that I
occasionally sync music to. HAL correctly recognizes this device, and
mounts it as USB storage. However, when I drag and drop songs/albums

  1. It transcodes music to the device as directed by the HAL config

the device, the MP3s play fine. That said, it seems the AAC
  transcoder in gutsy is broken.

  2. Why isn't there a UI in rhythmbox to set the
format/bitrate/extension used for the transcode? Hacking the HAL
config files isn't very user friendly, and as far as I can tell, it
only allows you to set the mime-type, and not the bitrate, or
extension. Having both these latter two items hardcoded by the
HAL/Banshee code is problematic. For example, the N770 media player
can playback AAC - but it wants the extension to be AAC, not the M4A -
and I think it is always using 128kbit, which is fine for MP3, but
64kbit would be ok for AAC. I'd like to be able to specify both the
extension and bitrate, in addition to the format.

Inspiron 6000 or my HP zd7000, Firefox becomes an unresponsive window
with no window decorations. It's not possible to maximize, move it,
or otherwise interact with it. Disabling Desktop Effects restores
  sanity.

I retest desktop-effects every couple weeks, and this problem
persists. Since firefox is probably the single most important
application used by most users, this problem pretty much guarantees no
casual user will use Desktop Effects.

  **Steps to reproduce :
  1. Open a single instance of Firefox with no tabs open.
  2. Go to http://www.htmlgoodies.com/legacy/beyond/javascript/bigsmall.html
  3. Click the "Maximize" link located at the top left of this webpage.
  4. Close Firefox.
  5. Re-open Firefox.
  6. Now the titlebar for Firefox and upper/lower panels should be missing.

  Or

  1. Use the bigger resolution that your computer can take and open Firefox.
  2. If not already done, demaximize the Firefox window (right clic /
Demaximize).
  3. Close Firefox
  4. Change the screen resolution for a very lower one.
  5. Open Firefox

  **WORKAROUNDS : more permanent
  1. Install compizconfig-settings-manager
  2. start ccsm
  3. click on "Workarounds" plugin in the "Utility" section
  4. uncheck "Legacy Fullscreen Support".
  or
  1. F11 twice
  2. resize the windows with the mouse. Once you've set them to the right size
for you then go to
  3. Edit - Preferences - Content - Enable JavaScript Advanced ...
  4. UNtick the top (?) option which is "Move or resize window". This should
prevent javascript from being able to resize your window inconviently
  thanks to

  **WORKAROUNDS : temporary
  Hit F11 twice

It would be great if, when dragging a song to the ipod which has a
lyric downloaded from rhythmbox, and also when looking for the lyric
for a song on the ipod, the lyric could be transferred to the ipod, so
it is possible to view it from the ipod interface.

I suggest adding a feature to play music from the CLI. Here are some example
commands and their intended results:
rhythmbox-client --play "search-string" <--- all results for general search
rhythmbox-client --play-artist "artist" <-- Results of search for artist
rhythmbox-client --play-album "album" <-- Results of search for album
rhythmbox-client --play "search string" --first 5 <--- first five tracks
rhythmbox-client --play "search string" --last 5 <--- last five tracks
  rhythmbox-client --playlist "playlist" <-- playlist
This could be integrated with an alarm app to play music at a given time.

Currently under the radio button there is only a couple of preset radio

Steps to reproduce (at least on my machine):

  1. Play music in a playlist with more than one track.
  2. Click the play button again to pause the music.
  3. Click next or previous.

Rhythmbox will start playing music if it skips to a new track. The
expected behavior (at least for me) is

  A. If I click next when Rhythmbox is paused and in the middle of a song, it
should go to the next track and STAY PAUSED. (Actual behavior: Rhythmbox
skips to the next track and starts playing.)
  B. If I click previous when Rhythmbox is paused and in the middle of a song,
it should go to the beginning of that same song and stay paused. (Rhythmbox
behaves as expected.)
Bi. If I click previous again such that Rhythmbox seeks to the previous
track (note that Rhythmbox is still paused), it should skip to the beginning of
the previous track and STAY PAUSED. (Actual behavior: Rhythmbox skips to the
beginning of the previous track and starts playing.)

Of course, if this is the intended behavior, then my bug report is
  invalid.

I have subscribed to a few radio podcasts in RB.
I have broadband so it's fast, and it used to work just fine, however, in the
past couple of months, the quality of my internet connection (blame crappy ISP
here!) has decreased significantly (takes ages to connect to a server, transfer
speed is highly unstable, and sometimes plain stops, then resumes when it feels
like it, a second later, or a minute... depends on the mood and server !).
This revealed a serious weakness/problem in RB: 99% of the time, RB fails to
download the podcasts ! Most of the time it just says "Waiting", and sometimes
it downloads 5% of the file then sits there forever and won't move an inch even
if I let it run for 3 days.
Thing is, if I try to download these podcasts in a terminal, using the "wget"
command, it works just fine, and in the worse case, it takes 3 minutes to grab
an episode and that's it.
That's why I think the problem lies within RB...
I suspect that the problem might be that RB times out way too easily, and
most importantly, when it does time out, it gives up for good, and won't insist.
So the solution is probably to do as wget likely does (from what I can see) :
increase the time out greatly when connecting initially to the server. Say a 2
minute time out, not less.
Then once it starts downloading the file, and in the event that transfer
speed drops to zero : DO NOT time out, and just patiently wait for transfer to
resume.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1768840] Re: Evince 3.18.2 claims excessive memeoy when opening a multipage file created with AbbyyFineReader14 (AFR14, runs on Windows10)

2018-05-24 Thread melolontha
The same memory-wasteful and cpu stressing behavior also shows up in
GIMP and in Xpdf. It might be a bug in Poppler, the underlying pdf
representation library, I suspect. According to Poppler's site, Evince,
Gimp and Xpdf all rely on poppler.

Title:
Evince 3.18.2 claims excessive memeoy when opening a multipage file
  created with AbbyyFineReader14 (AFR14, runs on Windows10)

Status in evince package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
If Evince 3.18.2 (running on Xubuntu 16.04.4) loads such a pdf file (e.g.
after doubleclicking on the file name in Thunar), a few seconds later more than
3 GiB of RAM are in use. Then memory consumption stays almost stationary for
some time to sharply rise again.
Finally you may be caught in swapping memory and becoime almost unable to
control the computer, because the cursor reacts on mouse movements only with
much time delay.
In some cases, after many minutes of heavy CPU use, finally a result is
shown. Memory consumption may be up to 6GiB for a two page grayscale pdf
document and even for a two page BW-document! In such a case, after stopping
Evince, all the memory is back again and the computer is operational as it was
before.
The same documents load quickly in Firefox 59.0.2 (64-Bit) and without
excessive memory consumption.
The syndrome does not show up, if Evince shall read a single page pdf
document. But even if you add the same content into a single document (in
AFR14) to make it a two page document, the result shows the syndrome.
The syndrome does not show up with files made by AFR9.
  GIMP2.8 and LibreOffice (Draw) Build-ID: 1:5.1.6~rc2-0ubuntu1~xenial3 also
suffer from the same illness for the same file. Do they all rely on the same
libraries?
If someone needs sample files to look into it, I can provide some.
It even looks like Evince claims this excessive memory already when it is
started from a command line and shows the “last opened“ view. The included
example Test AFR14_2 Seiten, beruht auf Test-AFR14_00-00_SW.tif_SW.pdf was
created with AFR14 (under Windows) by including the scanned image
Test-AFR14_00-00_SW.tif twice into the PDF file sauch that it becomes a more
than one page pdf file. After I opened Evince, it claimed 3.3GiB and just
showed the names of the last opened files with some default icons. After
waiting some minutes, the icons were filled with previews and then Evince‘s
memory consumption dropped down to 48,9 MB!
There were known errors which may or may not have the same root cause: in
Evince 0.6x, see https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=431423 and in
Evince 2.6x, see https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=577144.

  Its a rather silly issue.

When I try to unmount my iPod via rhythmbox, it tells me that the iPod
is being used. A quick 'lsof' revealed the following:

  utkarsh@utkarsh-laptop:/media$ lsof | grep MUSICALLY_U
  rhythmbox 6104utkarsh 22r REG 8,16 349991530048
/media/MUSICALLY_U/iPod_Control/Music/F69/04 Scar Tissue.m4a (deleted)

--

Apparently it was rhythmbox itself which was holding on to a file on
the iPod which I had deleted; after playing another file from my local
music collection, I was able to unmount the iPod easily.

Is anybody else also facing a similar problem?

If a song has more than one (e.g.) "artist" tag, the last ones are
disregarded: they don't show in the GUI nor they can be searched.

I think rhythmbox should show them either in the catalog and in the
song properties. I'm using version 0.11.2-0ubuntu2.

Very often I want to copy some music from my cd (containing encoded files,
mp3, ogg, etc.) to the Music folder. Rhythmbox doesn't allow me to do that (or
it's hard to find) without actually moving the files myself.
There should be an option similar to Banshee's "Copy files to media folders
when importing", so that I can manage music without leaving rhythmbox.

Rhythmbox seems to only have one queue for transfers. If I'm adding tracks
from the CD to my library, and I decide to drag a track to the iPod, it's added
to the queue.
Instead, it should be able to start moving that track to the iPod while it's
still transferring from the CD.

Bug: Rhythmbox has case-sensitivity. Needs to be removed.

Description: I have 100 music files of "Abba", "ABBA" and "abba", Rhythmbox
will
have 3 separate entries. Makes many people's music collections in rhythmbox
  rather messy.

Expected behaviour: No case-sesntivity. All 3 artists must be grouped into
one,
as *never* is an artist differentiated by case.

I understand that there are other things that can be done, like "&=and" and
"_=space" etc, but those are obviously more complex and not as widespread as
different case in people's music collections. So I just make this bug for
  case-sensitivity.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1773259] [NEW] Network icon shows busy

2018-05-24 Thread Mohammad Abu Sakib
Public bug reported:

The network icon of the network-manager-applet sometimes shows "busy",
as if it's trying to connect.

I have a broadband connection on my desktop, just an ethernet cable
plugged in- no wifi. I'm using a DSL/PPoE type of connection profile.

Even though I'm able to browse the internet and stream videos perfectly,
the icon shows that it's "busy" trying to connect.

I'm not sure if this is a bug(of the applet) or not; I do get
disconnected once in a while( which doesn't happen on "Windows") here on
Ubuntu, which weirdly gets fixed after I go to my "connection profile"
and hit "ok" without changing anything, but even then the icon shows
busy!

I'm using Ubuntu MATE 18.04, with 4.15.0-22-generic kernel.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1769981] Re: Temporary screen freeze when coming back from screen standby

2018-05-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
For the default Ubuntu installation I believe we have fixed all the log
messages that look like that.

So if you're seeing those I suggest removing some/all of your
extensions:

b'org.gnome.shell' b'enabled-extensions' b"['alternate-tab@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'bettervol...@tudmotu.com',
'hide_activit...@shay.shayel.org', 'drive-menu@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'shellt...@emasab.it', 'suspend-
button@laserb', 'system-moni...@paradoxxx.zero.gmail.com', 'docker-
integrat...@jan.trejbal.gmail.com', 'topic...@phocean.net']"

However, all of that might not be related to this bug...

Bug description:
When waking up the PC screen from standby, quite often the screen freezes for
10-20s.
I can't move the mouse or type anything. After a while, it unfreezes.
This is quite annoying because often the freeze is long enough to send the
screen to standby again for absence of singal, so then I have to wake it up and
wait again.

This is not 100% reproducible but happens very frequently, both when
the screen is locked and when it's not.

(or whatever it says with LANG=C) if there is no Album tag (empty string or
only nonprintable chars) in the file.

  Thanks,

  Martin

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: firefox

Produced on Ubuntu 9.10 using Firefox 3.5.7 (3.5.7+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.10.1).
Also produced on Ubuntu 9.10 using Firefox 3.7a1

  Steps:
  0. Reset Firefox zoom. (View -> Zoom -> Reset)
  1. Go to page that uses XSL. Example,
http://devedge-temp.mozilla.org/community/rss/index_en.xml
  (page should render correctly)
  2. Zoom in. (View > Zoom > Zoom In)
  3. Reload the page (View > Reload)

The page is not viewed as before (correctly) and scroll bars are
missing. This affects both, horizontal and vertical, scroll bars.
Zooming out also causes display issues, such as elements of the page
  repeating.

  Temporary Workaround:
  1. Reset Firefox Zoom
  2. Refresh page
  3. Page should be displayed correctly again

Firefox inappropriately adds scroll bars to many frames and images,
causing many pages to look ugly / broken.

I don't whether this problem is specific to armel or to certain
display driver / resolution combinations. I haven't seen any similar
problem on recent x86 versions of firefox yet, but maybe I haven't
managed to reproduce the required set of circumstances.

  See the attached examples
 * firefox-1.png (http://www.yahoo.com/) - see the redundant horizontal
scrollbar on the lefthand sidebar in the web page, and the scrollbars on the
"Today's top searches" box -- if you scroll the top searches box right you just
see white space.
 * firefox-2.png (http://www.ubuntu.com/) - see the "Ubuntu cloud

When printing a table that covers more than one page, and border-
collapse set to collapse, on pages after the first the vertical border
in elements covers the entire table, and the width of
horizontal borders does not change from the default width. On
print preview, the same happens, except the problem only occurs for
one 'chunk' of the render, i.e. scrolling faster causes the problem to
occur for a longer distance down the page.

  Reproducible: Always

  Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Download the html attachment
  2. Open in firefox
  3. View the print preview, or print the document.

  Actual Results:
Results are different to expected (as described above)

  Expected Results:
The print output should be similar to the view on screen, and the same across
  all page (excluding data)

It appears you're still using lightdm that is not part of bionic.

It was part of xenial though, so that must be a leftover from the
upgrade.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1772117] Re: xorg server

2018-05-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Jean Marc trony, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

Unfortunately, this report didn't include enough information. You may
find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. The behavior you expected, and
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thank you for your help.

2018-05-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It looks like this is what's filling the log (and probably consuming the
CPU):

( 48.319| 0.000) I: [alsa-sink-HdmiLpeAudio] alsa-sink.c: Starting playback.
( 48.319| 0.000) D: [alsa-sink-HdmiLpeAudio] alsa-util.c: Got POLLERR from
ALSA
( 48.319| 0.000) D: [alsa-sink-HdmiLpeAudio] alsa-util.c: Got POLLOUT from
ALSA
( 48.319| 0.000) D: [alsa-sink-HdmiLpeAudio] alsa-util.c: PCM state is XRUN

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1773244] Re: gnome-shell using high cpu

2018-05-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
We're tracking a few bugs similar to this.

Please start by removing your extensions and see if the problem goes
away:

b'org.gnome.shell' b'enabled-extensions' b"['dash-to-
d...@micxgx.gmail.com', 'appindicatorsupp...@rgcjonas.gmail.com',
'netsp...@hedayaty.gmail.com', 'openweather-extens...@jenslody.de',
'topic...@phocean.net', 'user-theme@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'apps-menu@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'window-list@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'TaskBar@zpydr']"

If that doesn't solve the problem then please let us know which apps (if
any) are running when the gnome-shell CPU usage is high.

Does the problem repeat continuously and fill up the log?

I'm just trying to gauge the severity of the issue.

Rhythmbox Last.fm plugin only scrobbles first song when listen to
  radio

Status in Rhythmbox:

Status in rhythmbox package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04, and now my Last.fm plugin in Rhythmbox
will only scrobble the first song when I'm listening to Last.fm radio.
Otherwise, it seems to work just fine.

  I'm using rhythmbox 0.12.8-0ubuntu6, rhythmbox-plugins 0.12.8-0ubuntu6

To test it, I just listened to the radio station "Artists similar to
the stills." I listened to these songs:

  Malajube - Jus De Canneberges
Land of Talk - Some Are Lakes
  Two Hours Traffic - Territory
The Most Serene Republic - A Mix of Sun and Cloud
French Kicks - The Trial Of The Century

While the first one was playing, I looked at my profile on last.fm,
  and it said:

Malajube - Jus De CannebergesListening now

When the song finished, it said:

Malajube - Jus De CannebergesJust listened

But none of the other songs ever showed up, either while I was
  listening to them or after.

It looks like other people are having the same problems, but as far as
I can tell, nobody else has filed a bug report:

  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1477589
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1417335
  http://www.last.fm/group/Rhythmbox/forum/8096/_/595864/2#f12485140

I'm also attaching the output of this command, which I ran to do the above
test:
  rhythmbox -D audioscrobbler &> rhythmbox-debug2.txt

It looks like for each song, I get these lines:
  (11:39:10) [0x9d2040] [rb_audioscrobbler_song_changed_cb]
rb-audioscrobbler.c:1146: new entry:
  (11:39:10) [0x9d2040] [rb_audioscrobbler_is_queueable]
rb-audioscrobbler.c:484: entry is queueable

I get that for all songs, even the ones that don't get scrobbled. For the
first song, I also get other lines:
  (11:39:10) [0x9d2040] [rb_audioscrobbler_timeout_cb] rb-audioscrobbler.c:555:
Sending now playing data
  (11:39:10) [0x9d2040] [rb_audioscrobbler_perform] rb-audioscrobbler.c:696:

  ...
(the rest is in the log file)

I ran a similar test previously running this command. It gave different
output, so I'm attaching it as well:
  rhythmbox -D lastfm &> rhythmbox-debug.txt

Bug description:
I'm subscribed to a number of podcasts that are hosted and served by
Apple iTunes. As such, the file format is m4a, which may be the root
  of this problem.

Once the podcast is playing, I'll pause playback using either the
controls that appear when clicking the volume control in the Unity
system tray, or by just using the regular playback controls in
  Rhythmbox.

To resume playback I press the play button, but play does not resume.
I must move the scrubber to a new location before playback will
  resume.

So I listen to music in Rhythmbox, and I close rhythmbox, or press "stop"
button, and instantly the music stops.
Goes from 80 decibels to 0 decibels in an instant!

  Now, this isn't nice.

Make it instead "fade it out", so the volume goes down to none over the time
of a second.
So it doesn't abrupt so hard. so it caresses my ears...

When I start Rhythmbox, my "library" pane has focus of the cursor. If
I start typing right away, I can locate the first instance of a song
title that contains that letter/word/phrase (e.g. if I type "you", my
cursor goes to "You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC-DC). This is
ineffective because this seems to offer no advantages over focusing
"search" immediately but does suffer from a few disadvantages. For
example, it does not allow you to immediately search by Artist, Album
title, or Genre. It also does not allow you to pull up multiple
matches for a given term or title. I submit this is a flawed design
(unless you can name some unforeseen reason why the behavior is as
  is).
