Re: [slim] Problem with radio station(s)

2011-03-09 Thread chipmalee

I came upon this topic by accident. I've always wonder where to report
bad links in my SB radio. Glad to see toby10 is here to help.

I reported these to RadioTime, so let's see what happens.
http://radiotime.com/contact-us.aspx

So here's 2 stations I had problems with recently.

1. 95.9 The Rat - This was playing on my SB up until 3 months ago.
Now it has completely disappeared from the SB rooster. I had signed up
on RadioTime but not sure what is the link I am suppose to put in my SB
favorites. None of these play on my SB.

http://radiotime.com/station/s_22319/The_Rat_959.aspx

2. KJOY not showing on SB rooster but RadioTime popup link works for
SB.

Turn off the option in muso which sets it to use the trackstat plugin

Re: [slim] Ethernet Appears Disconnected Please Check Your Network Connection

2011-03-09 Thread smithw

Can now confirm the issue with one unit at least is caused by
squeezenetwork version V7.5.3.

Uninstalled V7.5.3 and installed V7.5.2 and the squeezebox classic
skipped Ethernet Appears Disconnected Please Check Your Network
Connection and worked as usual.

Then updated to V7.5.3 and the same problem occurred.

Uninstalled V7.5.3 and installed V7.5.2 and the squeezebox classic
works as expected via wired or wireless ethernet.

The only issue with this is when connecting to a V7.5.2 server it
installs Firmware 131 then when a connection to squeezenetwork is made
you need to wait while it installs firmware 132, then when you connect
back to squeezenetwork server, wait while firmware 131 is installed...

I would not like to be who ever signed off on V7.5.3 release!

Thanks heaps for the suggestions here. Now I know what it is will try
the 7.6 when I have a chance as suggested by Mnyb in #3

Responses here = 8 in one day

Responses @ Logitech support = 0 after 7 days

Responses @ Logitech forums = 0 after 1 day

I expect the other 2 squeezebox classic problem will be V7.5.3 when I
get to them on the weekend.
thanks again..

Re: [slim] Ethernet Appears Disconnected Please Check Your Network Connection

2011-03-09 Thread toby10

Your SB3 getting firmware every time it switches between MySB.com and
SBS server is normal, it is only doing what it is designed to do.
Your SBS server and MySB.com server are running two different firmware
versions and the player is detecting this difference.
You can turn this off on an SB3 by going to Setup (press hold the
left arrow), scroll to Automatic Updates = NO

Re: [slim] Problem with radio station(s)

2011-03-09 Thread toby10

The most common cause of it was listed before, now it is not is due to
the station changing it's streaming format, usually changing to AAC
format.
AAC stations are not listed on SB players when connected to MySB.com
and using the RadioTime library. But these AAC streams are listed if
using SBS server.
If using MySB you can cut paste an AAC URL into your MySB Favorites
(or Tune in URL) they will play on a Touch or Radio, they will not play
on the older SB players (SB1/2/3, Duet, Boom).
The AAC stream will play on ALL players if connected to SBS server.

[slim] No Artists !

2011-03-09 Thread technojunkie

I have recently installed server version 7.5.3 and, after re-scanning my
music library, everything seemed fine. However, when I manually
restarted the server, all the artist names had disappeared. All album
info and pictures are there but artists is shown as 0. I therefore
cleared the cache and re-scanned the library. After the rescan, I
checked artists and all the artists names were there but, after
restarting the server, they had disappeared again !

disappears.

Can anyone please tell me how to resolve this problem ?

I think it is fair to say that if you search these forums you'll find
overwhelming positive comments for iPENG on the iphone. For the iPAD,
you'll want one of the apps designed to take advantage of the iPad
size. For this, there is also an iPeng app and the SqueezePad app.
There seem to be individual preferences for the iPad apps, although
people like both.

I've very much enjoyed the iPeng app on my iphone. I'm purchasing one
of the new iPAD2 units soon and I will purchase both the iPeng and
SqueezePad apps and try both. Bottom line, all 3 of these things are
$30 in total and well worth the price.

You should have an error message in scanner.log or server.log - your
problem is usually caused by a failure in the very last stage of the

Re: [slim] Best Iphone/Ipad Interface for Squeezebox?

2011-03-09 Thread maggior

Congrats on building a new house! Very cool that you were able to set
up audio throughout using squeezeboxes.

I have an iPod Touch and use iPeng on it to control my squeezeboxes.
It works really well and never gives me a problem. As garym pointed
out, if you search the forums you'll find an overwhelming number of
people that are happy with iPeng. The alternatives have their
supporters too.

Any you pick should, as you say, work, work, work. It will probably
be personal perference as to which on you perfer. iPeng seems to be
considered a more advanced interface - i.e. you can do more with it
at the cost of some usability. The other (sorry, I don't know the name
of it, squeemote?) is said to be more intuitive to use.

I have a squeezebox controller from the Duet, which obviously supports
all squeezebox features. I have yet to find something I wanted to do
with iPeng that I could only do with the squeezebox controller.

My favorite feature of iPeng is it has an option to list albums in
release year order! Logitech hasn't fixed this bug in their software
for years.

iPeng will also act as a squeezebox player, which is a cool feature.

Re: [slim] SB release 7.5.3: Unreliable. Anyone else?

2011-03-09 Thread chris.mason

I've posted in another thread about wireless DHCP issues with 7.5.3 and
7.5.4.

But I am also seeing the same issues that are being listed here -
frequent disconnects, SB3 and Boom rebooting or hanging, regular
drop-outs etc.

The drop-outs are interesting, as when it starts happening, it occurs
every 30 seconds. I'm wondering if the recent firmware updates
designed to reduce the network traffic to Mysb.com and make the client
units do more work has had unintended consequences.

I'm running a Boom and SB3, both over wifi using WPA2. Both devices
configured to use static IP addresses.
SBS 7.5.4 r31995
UBUNTU 9.10

I'm going to try some router adjustments, such as the channel in use,
and the kind of security to see if that helps, but I don't believe that
is the issue (why should it be? nothing there has changed).
Also, I need to try a completely vanilla install, with no prefs set up,
no plugins, and compare that.

Re: [slim] Does computer used affect sound quality?

2011-03-09 Thread JJZolx

No, it doesn't. The only way it can affect 'sound quality' is if it's so
slow or overloaded with other tasks that it can't keep the audio buffer
sufficiently filled on the Squeezebox and you experience dropouts.
Otherwise, it just needs to keep feeding data across the network, which
is trivial for just about any computer.

That said, the speed of the computer may affect the overall user
experience with a Squeezebox product. It plays into how fast the user
interface responds, and how much time a library scan requires.

Re: [slim] SB release 7.5.3: Unreliable. Anyone else?

2011-03-09 Thread Phileas

I posted most of the following in another thread.

I've been having problems since 7.5.3.

I've reverted to 7.5.2 and now to 7.5.0 without success.

I believe at least one other user was still having problems even after
reverting to an earlier version.

I've managed to get my SB3 playing music without dropping the
connection by ethernet cable. However, it seems that it no longer likes
my homeplugs, even though these are working fine for internet access.

So something has changed but I can't with absolute certainty pin it on
the update.

I've tried xlinix.

Currently I'm trying using the homeplug in a socket far away from where
the SB3 power supply is plugged, in case that is somehow affecting it!
It's OK so far but needs a longer test to prove anything (you can see
I'm grasping at straws here!)

It's so frustrating - I've had no problems like this since buying my
first Squeezebox well over two years ago.

[slim] extreme lag on server when SB plays

2011-03-09 Thread SlimPvC

Since a few days I'm having trouble when playing squeezebox (Touch).
Don't know what's up since it has played without problems for years.

The symptoms: when Squeezebox (Touch) plays, the server computer starts
to lag up to the point that it can hardly be used anymore. Mouse trail
is very slow, and when typing letters don't appear.
Strange thing is that processor is only on 3%. There should be no
problem on this machine
When the Squeezebox stops playing, the problem immediately disappears.

Also - all artwork seems to have disappeared. (Artwork from the file
that is playing is shown correct). Full Rescan did not fix this..

I'm running Versie: 7.5.3 - r31792 on Windows 7 machine with I7
processor and 6Gb memory..with Squeezebox Touch

I have already reset the SBtouch, and completely un- and reinstalled
the server version 7.5.3. Rescan of the database took 6 hours, but the
same problem persists. .

I have read about some trouble with 7.5.3..Could that be the cause?

Anyone experienced similar problems and have any suggestion on what to
do next?

Thanks
Peter

JJZolx;616730 Wrote:
No, it doesn't. The only way it can affect 'sound quality' is if it's so
slow or overloaded with other tasks that it can't keep the audio buffer
sufficiently filled on the Squeezebox and you experience dropouts.
Otherwise, it just needs to keep feeding data across the network, which
is trivial for just about any computer.

That said, the speed of the computer may affect the overall user
experience with a Squeezebox product. It plays into how fast the user
interface responds, and how much time a library scan requires.

+1. Any old computer will typically work just fine. The quality of your
network (wifi or ethernet) is a more likely roadblock. And remember,
until the data arrives at the SB player, it is just zeros and ones. It
is NOT analog data.

have you rebooted your network. If not, turn off router, and computer,
and unplug touch. Then restart router, let fully start, reboot computer
and let fully start, including SbS, then plug in Touch. If you decide
that 7.5.3 is just problematic for you, install 7.5.2 instead from

Hmmm if going back to 7.5.2 didn't help and before you upgraded to 7.5.3
you didn't have any problems, then this must be something from outside.
Either that or the installation of 7.5.3 upgraded something 7.5.2 can't

But 7.5.4. actually have two fixes for exactly those problems you are

That error message can be ignored. However, the Music scan terminated
unexpectedly error is a real problem.

It's hard to explain without a lot of typing, but what you are seeing
is a scan failure just before the last step (you will have artists, but
they won't be 100% correct) or a failure within the last step (0 artists
- they get lost at this point).

You need to get a Full rescan to run (a new and changed won't fix
your problem).

Use the SBS control panel to clear the cache, then do a full rescan.
Check SCANNER.LOG (only a full rescan writes to scanner.log) for
messages. Report back

However, I can't switch any player (not my receiver, and not the

doesn't succeed and then simply connects to the server and then either
continues with the player already (and previously) connected to that

[slim] SB2 white noise/crash with ogg stream and net contention

2011-03-09 Thread dimitris

Tried the official forums but didn't have any luck...

Ever since I started regularly streaming an Ogg station on my SB2, I've
had the following problem:

Stream: http://www.sofaspace.net/stream.ogg.m3u

SB2 firmware: v132, xilinx update done under same FW version.

Server info:
Version: 7.5.3 - r31792 @ Mon Jan 24 07:13:35 PST 2011
Hostname: squeezemachine
Server IP Address: 10.0.2.15
Server HTTP Port Number: 9000
Operating system: Debian - EN - utf8
Platform Architecture: i686-linux
Perl Version: 5.10.1 - i486-linux-gnu-thread-multi
MySQL Version: 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.10
Total Players Recognized: 1

WLAN: WPA2/CCMP-PSK, signal strength reported in the 90s by the
player.

Symptom:
When playing, the player will sometimes start emitting white noise
(analog output only used) for a few seconds. It will then restart.

I've already removed, wiped the contacts of, and re-seated the WLAN
card inside the server, with no change.

The problem is vastly more likely to occur when there is contention on
the network, e.g. a big Debian update running.

NOTE: This contention doesn't have to be on the wireless part of the
network. The frequency of the problem increases dramatically -
virtually always reproducible - even when it's the wired side
saturating the DSL's download capacity.

I've seen references in these forums about the player's CPU getting out
of sync with something (DSP?) leading to the same/similar symptoms, but
without any root cause ever being identified. To speculate a bit
wildly, it sounds like in my case things get triggered out of sync by
Ogg packet loss/jitter.

Any ideas/fixes?

Your SB3 getting firmware every time it switches between MySB.com and

Your SBS server and MySB.com server are running two different firmware
versions and the player is detecting this difference.
You can turn this off on an SB3 by going to Setup (press hold the
left arrow), scroll to Automatic Updates = NO

I had accepted that the firmware changes were required between 7.5.2
(FW131) and squeezebox.com (FW132) were normal but thought I would test
going to Setup (press hold the left arrow), scroll to Automatic
Updates = NO

The result is that going from a 7.5.2 squeezenetwork server results in
a blank screen in the Classic, requiring a return to setup and enable
auto update so the classic can be updated from 131 to 132 and then
connect to .com

The result going from squeezebox.com to a 7.5.2 squeezenetwork server
with auto update disabled in the classic results in a prompt to
manually change the firmware from 132 to 131.

No matter this is just an observation. Can live with this minor issue
after the non connectivity with 7.5.3 installed on Windows xp and/or
Ubuntu 10.04

In fact, paragraph 1 is wrong: the SB player will merely exhibit

Nothing incorrect here.

Sorry - you must have interpreted incorrectly. That is exactly what I
meant. There will be no errors in the data delivered to the Squeezebox
-UNLESS the server in incapable of delivering the data!- IE. If the
data gets there, it gets there perfectly. If the data does not get
there (due to a computer's inability to transfer at the required speed)
then no data.

That does not change paragraph 2 - clocked data is entirely different.

 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7042921csid=_21

Is your app compatible? A tablet would make a nice Android remote for
 SB.

Yeah, that should work.

I'd recommend trying a cheap tablet before buying it because I've
already seen many Android tablets that are just a piece of crap... :-/

PS: Android 2.2+ is definitely recommended (because the JIT compiler
has a significant performance impact).

 How about voice control :)

Well, VoiceSearch does work with Gingerbread (at least with the
upcoming 0.9.6, not sure about 0.9.5.x, but it should also work,
because that's an OS specific feature). :-)

Is there a way to get back to you last position under My Music
 folders?
eg I chose Artist Killers and play an album. Now i'd like to quickly
get back to the Killers folder without navigating through everything
 again. Is that possible?

Not, yet, but it will work in 0.9.6.
Yes, I know, I should hurry up with the new version... :-)

 Any suggestions?

What happens to the Player after you try to switch it to MySB?
Is it still connected to your local SBS or is it unconnected?
What's the color of the Receiver's LED?

Which SBS version have you installed on your local server?

Re: [slim] SB2 white noise/crash with ogg stream and net contention

2011-03-09 Thread Mnyb

If you disable ogg in the file types setting and let the server do the
transcoding ?

Ogg especially with low bitrates is problematic for the SB2/3/reciever,
I think it's somewhat cpu demanding for the player. So SB2's ogg
abilities does not cover all ogg compression rates + some other
problems.

[slim] How to control a Squeezebox from a Mac

2011-03-09 Thread denony

Hi there,

I need to control my Squeezbox Classic from my Mac (Mac OS 10.6.6).
I love SqeezePlay. It works great but it's a music client and play
the music on the Mac,

I don't want that my Mac plays the music. I just want that it controls
the Squeezbox with a user a great interface (like the Sqeezeplay one)

Is a such software exist (or may be a Sqeezeplay option can perform
that) ?

Thank you

Regards

On Squeezeplay, go to Settings Choose Player and then choose the
player you want to control. If you like, you can put Choose Player on
your Squeezeplay home menu via Settings Home Menu.

Thank you,

Unfortunately, I cant't find Choose Player in SqueezePlay Settings
menus.

In the Settings menu', there are :
- Shuffle
- Repeat
- Alarm Clock
- Audio setting
- Home Menu
- Image Viewer
- Screen
- Sleep
- Squeezebox Name
- Advanced

I can't find Setting menu of the SqueezePlay program itself.

It should be there under Audio Settings. Are you successfully
connected to your local Squeezebox Server ? The Choose Player option
won't appear until you are.

Yes, it will. Yes, all of them. Yes, SoftSqueeze as well. What ?

[slim] New Decompress support APE seeking (win)

2011-03-09 Thread GUOQ

I made a new Decompress(only Windows) by Monkey's Audio SDK. It support
APE seeking, so you can enjoy APE+CUE files.

1. download Decompress and unzip:

2. copy the macSBS.exe to path: server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\
(c:\Program Files\Squeezebox\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\)

3. edit server\convert.conf (c:\Program

Re: [slim] No Artists !

2011-03-09 Thread technojunkie

I seemed to have resolved this problem. I deleted the folder containing
the last entry in the log before the music scan terminated which was :

Slim::Utils::Scanner::scanDirectory (333) Scanning: F:\My Documents\My
Music\Music\Tom Petty The Heartbreakers\Greatest Hits\Breakdown.flac

I also ticked the use iTunes box which I had previously unticked
because the scan wasn't picking up FLAC or WMA files types. I then ran
a full scan and all songs, artwork and playlists loaded in one scan
which hasn't happend for months.

Strangely, the use iTunes box is now unticked again (not by me) but
I'm really not bothered as my full library is now available and
everything is now working.
