[slim] Touch with SD card: players attach to server. How to stop it.
Hi. I have a Touch with an SD card to run wallpapers. I don't run the Touch as a server (or even a player, it's just run as a controller). But upon a reboot of my server (dedicated windows machine) most of my SB clients attach to to my Touch. ...even though I've turned off the server in the Touch settings (i.e. setting does not seem to persist). Re: [slim] Touch: How to add correct 'Now Playing' item to home menu screen?
I have factory reset the device and now I have a 'Now Playing' menu item on my home screen whilst using the Large Text Skin. I think there must be some sort of bug caused perhaps by the fact there are actually two different items called 'Now Playing' that can exist on the home screen. I say this as at one point I had two such named items and I think that what may have caused the problem was that I removed one (the wrong one obviously!). Thanks for your help. [slim] Touch: How to add correct 'Now Playing' item to home menu screen?
Hi. I am setting up a new Touch to emulate the settings on another I use daily. I've added 'Now Playing' menu item to home menu but it does not wor5k in the ay it does on the original one. One the original Touch touching the 'Now Playing' menu item takes me to the 'Now Playing' screen. This is good. One the new Touch touching the 'Now Playing' item brings up a sub-menu with two items: 'Now Playing Views' and 'Scroll Mode'. This is not what I want. For the life of me I can't see how to get the new one to work like the original one. Anyone know what I am missing? [slim] Squeezebox Touch : Large text screen - dearth of functionality?
Hi, Hopefully a quickie. I have just set up a new Touch. I want to use this skin via the touch screen: Settings/Screen/Select Skin/Touch Screen/Large text screen But it seems to come with a cost: lots of functionality is lost, i.e. * Can't navigate up just one menu item * No transport controls for controlling what's playing * Other stuff. Hello. When I navigate to the Plugins page a pop up tells me: "Settings Changes will take place at the next application restart. Please click here to restart the server now." How can I tell which plugins require updating? I know it is listed somewhere as I saw it once, but I have just looked all thorough both Material Skin (the one I prefer) and Default and can find no mention of them anywhere. I've also been through all the forums posts mentioning it, but still no help. Re: [slim] Favourites. How to organise in Material Skin (Chromebook)
I think there was something screwed with my system. I stopped LMS and renamed favourites.opml. When LMS started it created a new one and I mostly copied the contents of the old one into it. [slim] Album duplication in library (Spotify)
For some reason an album is appearing twice in my very well ordered local library. (One instance is because I hold the album as local files). The duplicate album has what appears to be a Spotify icon on it. It is a loved album in Spotify but none of my other loved Spotify music appears in my library. The album has no tracks in it. Any idea how I can remove it from my library? I have already done a full clear and rescan to no avail. Thanks very much Take care of your tongue. It is in a wet place and can easily slip. Re: [slim] SB+ How can i get it repaired?
Just an info point. I had the SB+ recapped (hear-audio.co.uk)and now it sounds as good as new. I have performed listening tests with my Naim NDX over a period of months and although I can detect a difference in sound it's minor and both sound fantastic. Major plus of the SB+: It's directly controllable by LMS, unlike the Naim NDX which depends upon a less-than-perfect UPnP setup and which considerably les control. Major negative of SB+: Does not support 24b/96khz. I'm in a real dilemma about which I'll sell. What I'd really like is the Naim type SB+ treatment of the Touch (inc. larger touch screen if possible!). Re: [slim] Testers wanted
You asked about sound quality. I've just spent an hour or so playing the flac stream and comparing the tracks with my local versions. I was using: Naim NDX streamer (LMS via UPnP) Recently serviced Naim olives and Shahinian Arc speakers I realise that this is going to be a bit inconclusive but thought it worth posting. Two reasons for it being inconclusive: 1) My own versions of the tracks consisted of MFSL remasters, PBThal 24-96 needle drops and ripped CDs 2) I don't generally listen to radio on this system (even Tidal) because the sound quality is always less impressive than playing local files. Observations: The stream played flawlessly. There was no album art (Material skin on Android mobile and Squeezebox Touch controller) The sound was a fair bit quieter than any of my local files and a little quieter than the radio stations I (quickly) tested it against In comparison to my local files the sound was flat, set back, bland and lacked presence. The best sound comparison would probably be against the PBThal 24-96 vinyl rips as these are needle drops from excellent equipment (and personally I suspect the 24-96 encoding makes little difference). Adjusting for volume difference I tried three of these against the tracks plated on the radio station and the above still applied, the radio sound was flat, set back, bland and lacked presence. This difference was not subtle. It was marked. But as I say radio always seems like that when compared to local files, even Tidal. Can I ask, do you use any noise limiting (i.e. replay gain etc)? Anyway, I enjoyed the music so thanks. I'd be very interested to hear some more modern electronic music and try a sound quality comparison Take care of your tongue. Just to add one thing to this There is some issue with Material Skin on Win 10 not showing the libraries once they've been set up. Hello. Following your instructions BPA my two installations are now one... under the correct directory, server. I still get the same issue with file not found when I attempt player bit rate limiting... but I also have another problem which I'm not sure is related but in an attempt not to flood the forum with my problem posts I'll mention it here. Extra info: In a recent successful attempt to set up library views I changed the name of the directory my main music library is held in. it was D:\Music It is now D:\MyMusic I have rescanned from scratch (twice) but my log file is stuffed with lines like this... all pertaining to either the first album (by A-Z) in my main library or the first track in that album. I'm assuming there just be some other entry someone where in LMS that still refers to the old directory path (and it is not in my playlists as this album is not included in any). You'll know this I'm sure but the 'open (91) Warning' error line is when I tried to play a track. Again, any help very appreciated (and I am all too aware that this is all a bit one-way). Re: [slim] Multiple libaries?
In an attempt to negate any vagaries I renamed the music folders to MyMusic and PaulsStuff. Using just the directory names as search terms I successfully set up the two libraries. (Only one small issue, on 8.1.1 selecting the libraries is arrived at via three small dots and not a note icon). My worry about not being able to select libraries via the Orange android app appears valid but it doesn't matter as the Material skin works brilliantly on my mobile (all kudos to the designer!). So kidstypike, thanks very much for that. All in all a bit of a revelation. The pubs are open(ish), the sun is out and my Dac32 turned up too looks like being a good week. Take care of your tongue. It is because I seem to have two LMS installations. The one I made originally when I set up the machine in 2018 contained in C:\Program Files\Squeezebox and then another in C:\Program Files\Squeezebox\server installed in 03/2021... which I assume must have been an update. Having discovered the Squeeze Config Android app I have successfully resurrected an old Receiver. Whoohooo! But I have an issue with the Player 'Bitrate Limiting' function. If I have it set to anything other than 'No Limit' the Receiver will play the first few seconds of a track and then skip to play the next few seconds of the next track, ad infinitum. It does this silently. There is no sound. I've tried with MP3 and Flacs and with a different player, with the same result. I am told I have Lame installed correctly. [slim] Struggling to remember Touch stuff
Hello chaps My Touch died some years ago so I've just bought another to try as a digital in for my Naim NDX (as the NDX interface is 100% crap compared to Squeezebox stuff) I notice there's an applet written by Triode called Enhanced Digital Output that enables the Touch to output 192khz digital signal, which it looks like the NDX might support. It replaces the kernal, which to me sounds pretty scary. Has anyone used this? Is it OK? (And no, I am not at all sure I have any music encoded at 192khz!) Also, the Logitech wallpapers are dull. I remember there used to be a way to install a custom backdrop but I can't remember how to do it. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks. Take care of your tongue. Thanks for the replies. I was not sufficiently clear. I have a lot of Chromecast devices so uninstalling castbridge is not an option. And even if it was that still leaves me unable to identify the errant device. The issue is hard to solve as I have a fair number of differing devices running off LMS throughout the house and in various outbuildings (most used but some unused) and teenagers who use the system too. BTW. Can anyone confirm that there is a bug in LMS (8.1.1 - 1610364019) and that the player details, esp. MAC and IP are not shown correctly? [slim] Identify player help. LMS shows weird Mac and server IP for player (bug?).
Hello. There's a player on my network that I can't identify. It'd help if I could gain it's IP and Mac address but the latest version of LMS (8.1.1 - 1610364019) list it's details thus: Player Model: CastBridge Player Type: squeezelite Player IP Address: 192.168.1.200 Player MAC Address: cc:cc:20:30:26:74 The only useful info here tells me it's a google device. The player IP address listed is the server address and the MAC address is malformed. It's the same for all the players. Is this a bug? And. Any idea how I can figure out what/where the mysterious player is? I am playing music at top volume on it but can hear nothing in the house at all. And I've been to each player. Thanks for giving this post any consideration. PS. Also on this version the pre-scan of artwork never even manages to pre-cache the first artwork but just gets stuck on zero. Well, thank you all very much for this. I have purchased a DAC32 (no display does not worry me as I use the wonderful Orange Lab apps on my Android phone). I have also found a top-end hifi repair person in my own village (!!) who now has my SB+. He even ti=urns out to be the son of a friend of mine. Link below for anyone in the UK in need of those sorts of services. I am still accumulating all the Naim kit but when I have it and running I am hoping to be able to borrow a Naim NDS or NDX. If I can I am going to compare the three head units. I am no audiophile but to me the olive Naim kit sounds completely different to any other set up. It seems to have an inherent swing and sex that makes even music I don't like sound good. And the sublime sound of the Shahinian Arcs (omni-directional and perfect for my 'difficult' lounge') complement the Naim kit perfectly (I really don't like the Naim speakers I've heard). I've not yet tried Naim streamers but for plain lush listenability, in my old setup, their CD Player, the CDX beat the socks of any streamers I tried. It'll be interesting to see if their streamer does the same thing. I bloody well hope not as the cost is crippling (thank God for Bitcoin!). Again. thanks very much. [slim] (Vaguely) Audiophile alternative to Transporter and SB+?
Hello. If anyone can help me I'd be grateful. I'm recreating a hifi I sold 15 years ago when I moved into a building site. I have a problem with the front end though. I used to use a @-tunes modified SB3 called an SB+ which was good. I also had a Transporter but did not get along with it. So I'm looking for suggestions for a high quality front end. I have wondered if there's a company that makes top-end audio adaptions of the raspberry pi but am basically open to any suggestions. For anyone who might be interested this is the system I'm re-building. Speakers: Shahinian Arcs Amp: Naim NAP180 PSU: HiCap Pre-amp: NAC102 You might think my obvious choice of front end was the Naim NDS or NDX but I prefer the Squeezebox ecosystem and these two items are silly money (and you still need to buy power supply!). When Logitech made the Boom they ignored user requests to include a shuffle button on the interface and so to toggle shuffle you are now forced to enter settings. I have to do this almost every time I use my Boom as I move from my local library (not shuffled) to my Spotify playlists (which I want shuffled). Ideally I'd like to assign the shuffle function to one of the six function buttons but I'm pretty sure that's not possible. 'Stream preference settings missing format' And logs [19-11-11 11:26:20.5738] Plugins::BBCiPlayer::iPlayer::scanUrl (148) Can't find a suitable media URL within the iPlayer URL that matches one of the preferred playback types: hls,mp3,flashaac [19-11-11 11:26:20.5741] Plugins::BBCiPlayer::iPlayer::scanUrl (149) iPlayer URL is: iplayer://aod?dash=http://aod-dash-uk-live.akamaized.net/usp/auth/vod/piff_abr_full_audio/cfaf33-p07r96fq/vf_p07r96fq_91cfb6e5-d7c6-409a-b520-cec717ecab07.ism/pc_hd_abr_v2_uk_dash_master.mpd?__gda__=1573493343_475cb06e4311595e7dfb70ae971ae5bf=6595=http://ichef.bbci.co.uk/images/ic/160x160/p07qnnkk.jpg=Guilt%20-%20The%20Soundtrack%20-%20Music%20from%20the%20addictive%20TV%20drama%20Guilt%20(21%20Oct)=Soundtrack%20it%20with%20this%20special%20playlist.%20Taster%20of%20Erol%20Alkan%2C%20Weval%20%26%20Them. I guess my files type are not set up for this although I do listen to live BBC Radio 4 and Triode's iPlayer listen again facility all the time on my various Squeeze devices. If anyone can suggest what might be wrong I'd be very grateful. Re: [slim] BBC Sounds
I'm in southern England and it won't play for me (and neither will any other, like the Garden Wildlife one for instance). My player reports this error: 'Stream preference settings missing format' Any use if that is my issue or the BBCs? Re: [slim] Slimdevices Squeezebox Classic stopped working
Up to you but it's very simple to take apart and push the card in securely. All you need is a small screwdriver. 5 mins max.
