Re: [slim] Does Anyone Have a Slimdevice for Sale?
I too must defend the Duets. I run two Duet receivers on wifi and they've been rock solid. I did have to replace a power supply for one Duet receiver and a wifi card in the other one. For me the key was a wifi router with good radios like ASUS has. One caution on the Squeezebox radios is they have issues with wifi 6 routers but the Duet receivers work just fine on wifi 6 routers, at least the RT-AX86U which has turned out to be the most reliable router I've ever owned. [slim] Fire HD 10 Gen 9 - Material APK Won't Install
I have 2 fire hd 10 tablets, one is a gen 9 and the other is gen 11, neither is the ad supported version. According to what I can find from Amazon they are both based on Android 9 API level 28. I've installed the Google playstore on both and that works fine. At some point in the past I installed Material apk 014 on both successfully. I downloaded material apk 030 on both and it installed fine on the gen 11, but just won't install on the gen 9 tablet. The gen 9 File manager and Chrome browser are allowed to install from unknown locations and the install goes through all the motions and the install progress bar goes to about 80% and then gives the triangle with exclamation and says app not installed. I won't try uninstalling 014 on the gen 9 tablet as I don't want to risk not being able to get the apk back on the tablet. Hopefully someone out there in Squeeze land knows the trick to get the current 030 apk to complete the install on a gen 9 Fire HD 10 tablet. Re: [slim] Darko Audio's recent video tribute to the Squeezebox (GOAT)
A great review of the Touch and the Squeeze platform! I've been happily Squeezing my music since Christmas 2008 when I got my first Duet. I now run 2 Duets, a Pi with PiCorePlayer and a Boom. Don't get the big deal about the Duets, mine run on WiFi flawlessly. I did have to replace the WiFi card in one of the Duet receivers and also a receiver power supply, but other than that they've been trouble free. Can't thank Michael, Craig, Phillip and the rest that have kept the Squeeze platform alive and relevant through the years. From my perspective the whole Squeeze music platform is G.O.A.T.! Re: [slim] Maintaining an Old System
Sounds like a classic wifi issue. Have you checked to see if you have competing neighbors on the same channel that you're using for your 2.4Ghz band? I explicitly set my channel rather than have the router use the auto setting, I do think the receivers have issues following the router if the wifi channel is set to auto. How old is your router. I recently upgraded to an ASUS AX (wifi 6) router and found that the signal was strong enough that I've now removed the access point I put in the basement. I've had no trouble with the wifi 6 being enabled on the ASUS router either. My 2 receivers and the Boom work without a hitch on wifi. I can then select the device I want to reserve an IP address for and it brings up a dialog with the MAC address and all I have to do is override the IP address to what I want, save it and in Netgear land the router will reboot. At least on my ASUS RT-AX86U and my Netgear DGND3700v1 at a 2nd location allows setting a reserved IP address outside the defined DHCP range. Note in the attached image DHCP range is .32-254 and reserved IP addresses are below this range. This ensures that DHCP cannot assign a reserved IP address to any device other than the target MAC address. The reserved addresses are within the same subnet. Another good reason to go reserved IP address at the router is if your target device is offline and some other device connects the router the router may assign the static IP address you've set in your player. Then when you bring the player back online you would have an IP address conflict with the other device. This won't happen when using the reserved IP address method at the router. Re: [slim] ASUS ZenWifi AX (XT8) firmware upgrade disconnects my squeezeboxes
This last summer I upgraded my router to an RT AX86U and now on stock firmware 3.0.0.4.386_45934. Before my wifi was pretty weak so I had an AP to get coverage. What I've found with the new router is it covers my whole house very well so I no longer require the AP so I didn't implement AIMesh. When I first put up this router I tried the RMerlin firmware and found my Duet receivers were constantly disconnecting and reconnecting. All the suggestions from the ASUS RMerlin folks involved changing settings to the 2.4GHz wifi that would reduce the full capability of the new router. I tried the stock firmware from ASUS and all the problems with my Duet receivers vanished. Here's my current 2.4GHz settings and they work flawlessly with my receivers. 36218 +---+ |Filename: wifi24.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=36218| +---+ Main system - Rock Solid with LMS 8.2.0 on WHS 2011 - 2 Duets and Squeeseslave Cabin system - Rock solid with LMS 8.2.0 on Win10 Pro - 1 RPi 3 Model B/Hifiberry DAC+ Pro/PiCorePlayer and Squeezeslave Squeezebox Boom - "At Large" player around both home and cabin Headphones and car - Android phone/Bluetooth w/full library on MicroSD card - PowerAmp music player app (similar to Material Skin) w3wilkes's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22973 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114743 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] A Reminder: When your Squeezebox 3, Touch or *Boom* "stops working"...
I've had two Duet receiver power supplies fail over the last 12 years. The last time I had a failure I bought one of these 'cords' (https://www.amazon.com/YIKU-Universal-5-5x2-1mm-Charging-Connector/dp/B0825SD9ZM/ref=asc_df_B0825SD9ZM/?tag=hyprod-20=df0=416794793908==g=2008919480420400099c===9029699=pla-973096075837=1===95587149484===416794793908==g=2008919480420400099==c===9029699=pla-973096075837) and then I can just pick up another USB wall charger. I did have a wifi card in a receiver fail and that was also replaceable. Any time I need a player now days I just build up another PicorePlayer. Re: ASUS RT-AX55 Mesh Routers Compatibility with SB Radios
I don't know what's different about the SB radios? I run 2 Duets with controllers and a Boom (along with squeezelite on a couple of PC's) all on a single Asus RT-AX86U with wifi 6 enabled. Used to have a Linksys EA6350 in AP mode over ethernet, but removed it when I found that the Asus gave me way better coverage than the old Netgear router I replaced with the Asus. Are the SB radios that much different than the Duet controllers and the Boom? And onto the security question about the SB devices... I've been running SB for a little over 12 years now and (knock on wood) have not seen any security issues. The only time it seems like there's a security problem is with those that have opened up the Squeeze ports to LMS to the "big I". I'm not aware of anyone having a SB device hacked. Interesting. I recently had an issue where I couldn't save playlists from a specific piece of software (SPFLite). Notepad and Notepad++ worked just fine. My music is on an internal separate physical drive "D:", I checked all permissions and ownership which all seemed fine. Re: [slim] Replaygain - Check My Thinking
I got an answer in the Foobar2000 forum that solves my question. The key is to use %list_index% as the first variable in the File name pattern. So I used %list_index% %title% as my pattern so the file names in my target folder came out with a sequence number and song title in the order they are in my playlist. I've now got this filed in my "treasures of truth". [slim] Replaygain - Check My Thinking
Two questions... I have a playlist of about 80 songs that I've now put on a CD ISO in MP3. The tracks all had track and album gain tags. The CD player in my car doesn't know about gain tags so I used Foobar2000 to copy the tracks to a folder and then used the Foobar2000 utility to apply track gain to the files. I've used that folder to burn the CD ISO of MP3's and this way I think I should not have any big volume differences from track to track. Does this thinking make sense? Another question on Foobar2000. It's easy enough to have Foobar2000 copy the tracks in a playlist, but I can't find a way to keep the songs on the order they occur in the playlist. I had to go to the folder I put the song in and prepend each track with a sequence number so the tracks in the folder are in the same order as the playlist. Does anyone know if there's a way with Foobar2000 to prepend a copied playlist with sequence numbers? This would allow for the use of something like SyncToy to synchronize folders between Windows and Android. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.theolivetree.webdavserver Main system - Rock Solid with LMS 7.9.3 Official on WHS 2011 - 2 Duets and Squeeseslave Cabin system - Rock solid with LMS 7.9.3 Official on Win10 Pro - 1 RPi 3 Model B/Hifiberry DAC+ Pro/PiCorePlayer and Squeezeslave Squeezebox Boom - "At Large" player around both home and cabin Headphones and car - Android phone/Bluetooth w/full library on MicroSD card - PowerAmp music player app (similar to Material Skin) w3wilkes's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22973 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112415 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

@mherger Michael, Would it be possible to move the things in this box up to the Album so you don't have to drill into a song to see these items, at least the Album information and Local Artwork items. If Artist information is from the Artist, not Album Artist tag then Artist information should probably stay where it is. @cpd73 Craig, Also this would be nice to also have a change to Material skin so this can be accessed without having to drill to a song in an album. Let's take an example and assume "D:\Music" is your root music folder and you have a structure under this that's something like "D:\Music\[Artist]\[Album]\[Songs]". For absolute file locations in your playlist the song entries would be; D:\Music\[Artist]\[Album]\song1 D:\Music\[Artist]\[Album]\song2 D:\Music\[Artist]\[Album]\song3 For playlists using relative file locations in the root music folder "D:\Music\[Playlists]" the song entries would be; [Artist]\[Album]\song1 [Artist]\[Album]\song2 [Artist]\[Album]\song3 In this manner I can copy my entire library (\Music\*), including playlists, from a Windows PC to my android phone and not have to change a thing. The relative position of the song files does not change across platforms. I've not tested with *nix or Apple platforms, but I would guess they would work the same as Android. Re: [slim] How do you backup playlists?
This may sound like heresy to some of the SB folks, but I have all my playlists in my root SB music folder. I've found this works very well as long as you use relative file locations rather than absolute file locations in the playlists. This also allows me to move my entire music library between different OS platforms with no trouble. If you use absolute file location in playlists and have the playlists in your SB music folder LMS has been known to show duplicate music as a result of the way LMS scans playlists, this doesn't happen when using relative music file locations in playlists. Re: [slim] EAC question
Do you mean RIP a CD? Reading the CD and creating some type output file (MP3, FLAC, WAV, Etc) is a RIP. Burning a CD is taking files on your computer and writing them to a CD. Once you've RIP'd a CD, you can verify the tags using something like MP3Tag to ensure the tags meet your needs (Album name, Artist name, Album Artist name, Track name, Track number, etc). Once you've got your RIP where you want you need to copy it to the folder LMS expects your music to be in and then you need to do a scan of your music folder the files were put into. The scan can either be a "Scan for new and changed" or a "Clear library and rescan all. Re: [slim] Small Integrated Amp Recommendation?
I'm in a similar situation and ended up with a Onkyo DR-UN7. I had to get a converter to change the component video out to HDMI. It will not play BlueRay, only regular DVD's and CD's. The Onkyo by itself will only run the front speakers, to run the rest of a 5.1 surround would require a separate power amp, but we don't need surround and I can't remember the last time we actually watched a DVD at the cabin anyway. I built a PiCore player with hifiberry DAC+ with analog out to the Onkyo driving small Bose AM3's. For a pretty small system both my wife and I are very happy with the sound. I have a full copy of my home library on my laptop and run LMS on the laptop when I'm at the cabin. Re: [slim] SSD as USB storage - some feedback and thanks.
On the SSD finite read/write cycles... Most vendors now build their laptops with SSD main drives. I would think that if this were a real world concern SSD's wouldn't be the current preferred device type for laptops. I would think a music library on a SSD would have substantially less I/O activity than a PC's system drive. I'd say... NOT AN ISSUE! Re: [slim] How to organise Poweramp like Squeezebox
I know this thread is over 2 years old, but I use PowerAmp on my phone. It has been updated to V3, requires at least Android 5. It does have both Folder Hierarchy and just Folder methods to view your library. For an android phone app I'm impressed with how much functionality PowerAmp has. It does its own DB so it's not restricted to what android allows/supports. Even stuff like multi-genre support in tags, both Artist and Album Artist main categories and gapless playback. The Library browse methods are much like LMS. Doesn't seem to have library size limits other than the amount of storage you've got. I've got 23,000+ tracks in 1,600+ albums on a 256GB SD card and it works great. The biggest difference is the management of how music is played. The default method is different than LMS, but it does have a queue method that is much more like LMS's way to manage what's playing. I just copied my full LMS library folder directly from my laptop to the SD card and put it in the phone, did a full scan with PowerAmp and it was done and even all my m3u playlists worked without changes being required (I have always had my playlists use relative folder methods and keep them in the root music folder even though that's not recommended here in the community) I have no stake or affiliation with this app. Main system - Rock Solid with LMS 7.9.1 Official on WHS 2011 - 2 Duets and Squeeseslave Cabin system - Rock solid with LMS 7.9.1 Official on Win10 Pro - 1 RPi 3 Model B/Hifiberry DAC+ Pro/PiCorePlayer and Squeezeslave w3wilkes's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22973 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106240 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

What system are you trying to run UDAP on. If a Windows system just use the .exe file. The Windows .exe file of Net::UDAP is self contained file with all the Pearl stuff integrated. When you run Net::UDAP the receiver needs to be ethernet cable attached to your router and then put into factory reset (long press on front button until you get the fast red blink, about 15 seconds). Back when I was growing up in the 60's we all appreciated good quality sounding music. In 1970 when I got my first apartment my 1st purchase was a modest, but decent sounding stereo. Cinder blocks and some boards was my stereo "cabinet". Now in my late 60's and with hearing aids I still have a decent sounding stereo (I'm no audiophile) and Squeezebox has given me a way more efficient way to sift through my music without any loss in the quality of the music from my CD's it was ripped from. I believe the wife appreciates the ease of picking what she wants hear too with Squeezebox. It's on a very rare occasion that I'll pull out vinyl to play. Most recently was when my 9 year old grandson said "Papa, do you have any records?". I said yes and he asked me to show him how they worked. I went to the basement and pulled out an album, fired up the turntable, gave the grandson a quick lesson on proper handling of vinyl, slapped the record on the turntable cleaned it with the Disc Washer and let it fly. I explained how the music is stored in the spiral grove and how stereo works in that grove. He seemed to soak it all in and though it was pretty cool.
