Hi all, The section "Adding templates obtained from other sources" of "GS6003 - Sryles and Templates" chapter has mention about Repository: "If you have enabled experimental features in Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Advanced, the Templates dialog shows a Repository button that you can use to add other template repositories. As this is an experimental feature, it may not work reliably." Now this button is not available, no matter experimental features is enabled or not. We should remove the mention of not confusing the beginner. Hi all, I make a translate of this Chapter and see paralogism. In the paragraph "How is LibreOffice licensed?" talks about MPL. And the next paragraph talk about principles in GPL. There is nothing explanations about that MPL and GPL are copyleft and interchangeable. However, the user, especially one that is just starting way into the Open Source Software, does not have to know the subtleties of licensing. If you strictly do not want to say that LibreOffice is licensed under two licenses MPL and GPL (and this is so, see the code), this requires at least to clarify that the licenses are very similar and compatible. Hi all, I would like to raise the issue of using a word "Runtime" with a name of functions in LibreOffice help. There are several meanings of this word. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runtime_library https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runtime_system https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Run_time_(program_lifecycle_phase) Are there functions in Basic to other time of the lifecycle? I do not quite understand the reason for using this term in the help. I assume that the authors of the old help wanted to emphasize that those are built-in functions which translated into bytecode. Or in other words it is a function of execution environment. But does it make sense to use this term beside to each function? In my opinion, [Runtime] obstructs reading the help. Is there a reason to save this word in the help beside each function? If there is no reason to save it, I will prepare a patch to remove it from the help. I do not think that the excessive use of "you" is good style. But team has to
decide this.
In any case, I do not see such much of "you" in popular science journals
(which have been writing really beautiful and plain language) and technical
documentation (that does not use "you" never).

Hi, It is a bad idea to describe the actions of the user in the Help. The Help (as documentation) should describe only the functionality of the program, but it is not something that the user can (should) do. Therefore, the words "you", "your", "user" should be used with extreme caution. Almost always, the description of the functional can be done without reference to the user. So, "allows to" (and like this) often can be removed from a sentence. Hi, Creation of a video for a help is good idea. But, in my opinion, before as we will accept a decision about including video or links to a video in the Help, we must solve a few issue. 1. Who will make it? We have huge amount not translated information (the help, FAQ, Guides) that destined for a help of users. [1][2][3] The Help has a lot of incomplete and outdated information, moreover, it requires reorganization and leading to standards. In order to bring it into order, the documentation team needs to have a lot more people, but they are not. Guides are better, but if you look at the gap from the current version of the LO, you'll see that Guides have the same problem. More free-form of documentation is FAQ in Wiki TDF, but it also requires the big contribution. 2. What will be made? I like the idea of video, because it can help users with disabilities easier to learn of the LO. But, what do you propose to give to users? If this is not reading and show what is happening in the Help article, it will not be the help video and it isn't clear why links in the Help. If it is the help, it will be necessary to quickly make changes to the video, that the video will correspond to the Help. But I still doubt that the video should be included in an article in the Help. 3. What standards corresponds to the video? As we already know, we are trying to bring documentation standards. [4] I am not going to touch on a lot of issues, I note a few that are on the surface. The sound should be without unnecessary noise and the voice of the announcer should be professional and belongs to a native speaker. If the first achieve easy with a help of technology, the second is difficult. I read lectures for 2 years for an audience, and tried to make video tutorials, and I understand that creature of the high-quality video tutorial is difficult. [5] There are also more simple questions such as the cursor does not have to dance to the monitor, keystrokes be displayed and so on. The same questions apply to the l10n team. If you look at the Help, Guides and FAQs, then you see that the translation lags far behind for many languages. On the other hand we have FAQs in the wiki TDF. The FAQs are demand more than all the help and it does not have the strict requirements of the documentation. Dennis Roczek have installed the plugin to embed videos in the wiki TDF from YouTube. And you can start with that to make a video for the FAQs. In addition, it allows to carry out an experiment to make sure that the project is viable and will not be in a state of almost coma like almost all the documentation for LO. It is much easier to select the example with a mouse, when it is located on a separate line. 11. Of course, Pootle gives tips, but not all people have a good internet, some people prefer to download a file and to translate it off-line and in this case tips in Pootle can not help. If not, I can not bring the table with the data in a separate file, to avoid unnecessary translations (only for the functions listed above ~ 100 lexems). Hi Peter, Your changes look very good. It really begins to look more professional and easier to read and translate. Thank you a lot for your contribution. I can prepare the patch in the nearest future. I have only a few proposals. We can not use a reference to an application of a competitive office suite like MS Access. In the official Help this looks very strange. If we assume that a human can have difficulties in learning LibreOffice from habits to work with another popular office application, we need to tell about differences, but without using reference to this application. LibreOffice is not a fork of MSO. There are many other office suites as GoogleDrive, GNOME Office, Calligra Suite etc. And we should not make a comparative table out of the Help. I think that the sentence “For designers familiar with Access, the prompt is more restricted as it cannot contain spaces or reserved characters.” needs changing. A mention of a user does not let the Help to look professional. In my opinion, this can be done for a Guide or FAQ, but we need to avoid it, and to focus on a functional description. The last, for me “designers of a database” looks strange. I am used to see “developers of a database”. I am not an English native speaker, and I can not be sure, but when I get the order on a database, usually I am called “developer”. I really don't know what we need to use in this case, just to draw your attention. What do you think about these? Hi all, I have started my work with documentation. I am trying to select information about Calc functions. And I think that writing a script is good idea for it. And I have started it. But I have noticed that names and descriptions of functions do not have a common part in macros name. For example: the function RAND. for its name: SC_OPCODE_RANDOM for its description: SC_HID_FUNC_ZUFALLSZAHL It would be convenient to substitute the German name SC_HID_FUNC_ZUFALLSZAHL with English SC_HID_FUNC_RANDOM. But I see that SC_HID_FUNC_ZUFALLSZAHL is used in HELP ( helpcontent2/helpers/help_hid.lst and helpcontent2/source/text/scalc/01/04060106.xhp). Should I substitute ZUFALLSZAHL to RANDOM in files of Help too? What should I do with files of l10n? Will they be assembled automatically or I should change names there as well? Hi Olivier If, as indicated, you get the extension from http://dev-www.libreoffice.org/helpauthoring/ Yes, I downloaded this version. Then all you need is to install the extension and all filters and templates will be at hand. You will get a new menu entry on the main menu bar. Yes, the menu entry on the main menu bar appears. Does it mean that we no longer use maintransform.xml and allfiles.tree files and I can remove the mentioning about them on wiki? But as we aleady know, the extension has some glitches that requires an inspection in the xml. Yes, I heard about it. But I try to understand how can a community member start to work with expansion. If a member of the Russian team will want to help, it is likely that I will answer questions first. If you have your build working with the Helpcontent, all you need is to issue the command make in the helpcontent2/ folder once finished, you just invoke soffice from instdir/program anf press F1. View for mobile platforms should not be in the design for desktop, but we need to install an extension for these platforms. As far as I know, there is such extension for MediaWiki. About div. Yes, I agree with you. It is desirable to move all styles into the template. But, who will develop the template now? If you or somebody else makes a good template for a table, I can spend time for bringing all the pages into a single view.
