Re: [Elecraft] K3 Software
I posted an early version of my controls in the yahoo files section at the request of others, many months ago at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Elecraft_K3/files/ So, look for Commander K3.exe It has a complete commander implementation with macro's and sliders to control the K3 and P3. The sliders and macro's are interwoven so pressing a control button sometimes changes a slider to give a visual representation. The files are explained in a pdf posted with the self extracting archive. You can look at the panel shots (Commander panel shots v.1.pdf ) to get an idea if you would be interested. It was an early attempt, I have changed things around a lot since, and added other macro buttons. For instance I have one that allows me to zoom in on a SSB signal and fill the pan display with it without having to settle for the base band starting in the center of the display. Others have posted macro's in the DXLab files section: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dxlab/files/Command%20Sequences%20%26%20Sliders/Elecraft/ In the end you need to understand how Commander works for creating macro's and what is possible in the K3 command reference to make sense of this, but when you do it opens up all sorts of possibilities beyond simply replicating the front panel or config controls. -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/K3-Software-tp7562908p7572885.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] K3 Software
Have you looked at DX Labs Commander? The macro capabilities let you adjust pretty much anything that can be set in the K3 via software control. You need to do the customization by developing the macro's, but the end results are very good. I run the K3/P3 completely from the keyboard and the mouse. The mouse wheel dials the frequency up and down. Fkeys are set for frequent operations, and sliders and soft buttons do the rest. Each macro can have up to 32 steps. The only bug I have found is that the NR settings won't change using the UPB and DNB commands, but that is a K3 known bug. 73, Todd -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/K3-Software-tp7562908p7562945.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] K3 software suggestion
Dirk, I believe what you want is already present (but not using the SPOT button). Read the VFO portion of the manual page 47, and set VFO CRS for each mode as you desire. (see menu listing on page 62). For SSB use, I set mine for 0.5 kHz steps, and I also set VFO OFS to ON so I can use the RIT control for coarse tuning instead of pushing the COARSE button. That allows me to use the VFO A knob for fine tuning. I also turn rounding on for VFO CRS Note that I seldom if ever find a need for RIT or XIT in SSB mode, YMMV. 73, Don W3FPR On 9/29/2011 1:27 PM, Dirk Jorens wrote: Tuning the K3 on 75m sideband this morning and trying to get the vfo precisely on a frequency such as 3.823.00 for example, it can take some time when your hands are none too steady. On Jan 5, 2011, at 1/510:10 AM, robt...@comcast.net wrote: the K3 user manual states “The K3 directly supports CW/PSK31/RTTY ASCII text transmit and receive via its RS232 port.” You will need software that understands the KY command to transmit RTTY data (Baudot, not ASCII) through the RS-232 port. RUMped by DL2RUM supports this, but even RUMped uses a software modem on the receive end (i.e., needs one audio cable). Since you mentioned N1MM, you are most likely not using Mac OS X, which RUMped needs, so it might not work for you anyway. I recommend that you set the rig and software up to use AFSK instead (either with AFSK-A or DATA-A mode depending on whether you use agile waterfall transmit). Wire up a sound card to the K3 using two audio cables, then adjust the audio drive and VOX gain properly and you should be good to go. 73 Chen, W7AY __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] K3 Software for RTTY
Robert, While the K3 has the capability to do RTTY (and CW and PSK31) from an ASCII text stream, there are few applications that support it. K3 Utility does it, but that is not a logger. You will probably have to use the audio cables from the soundcard and use the AFSK A Data Mode. Maybe someone else will know of a ham application which sends the ASCII data stream over the RS-232 connection. 73, Don W3FPR On 1/5/2011 1:10 PM, robt...@comcast.net wrote: With the ARRL RTTY Roundup coming up, I'm having difficulty choosing a software control and logging program. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Software for RTTY
Just use N1MM with the MMTTY plug-in and be done with it. You clearly have a computer, every compute made seems to have a sound card good enough to support this task. Two audio cables, ASFK-A using VOX and you're good to go. Be sure to set 45 BPS tho. Pick a mark frequency and be sure to set the K3 and MMTTY to the same. (I prefer 915 as I like to listen to the audio and other tones are too annoying.) I just finished making 924 QSOs in 28 hours of CQWWSSB with a manually tuned amp (Ten Tec Titan) and manual antenna tuners, and lots of band changes. We see the power setting when we adjust it. Since the K3 can remember power settings by band, all I have to do is set them once per band, and occasionally tweak them a bit as I would QSY (from the west coast, you do mostly SP in any contest that includes DX, no matter how wonderful your station). Re: [Elecraft] K3 software utility ?
All I'm talking about is a simply virtual display applet - a few square inches of area on the PC monitor to show operating parameters without having to push a bunch of buttons (like in the middle of a contest). HRD is a huge application and as far as I can tell it won't run off LP_Bridge, won't show subrx parameters or MIC/CMP (I could be wrong). K3_EZ never ran off LP_Bridge unless something changed. During a contest, I like to look down and confidently know my mic gain/compression and tx power along with my rx width and shift. I also like to know my subrx settings without resorting to BSET. It seems like this simple augmented display would have wide appeal - might also sell more K3's since other than the Orion, none of the competing rigs have a full display offering either. 73, Barry N1EU On Sat, Oct 30, 2010 at 10:40 PM, Dick Dievendorff die...@comcast.net wrote: I think Ham Radio Deluxe does this, http://www.ham-radio-deluxe.com/ and there's an application called K3_EZ that may also be of interest to you. http://home.roadrunner.com/~n2bc/SW.htm There may be others, but these are the ones I'm aware of. 73 de Dick, K6KR -Original Message- From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of Barry N1EU Sent: Saturday, October 30, 2010 3:29 PM To: elecraft Subject: [Elecraft] K3 software utility ? Hi Barry, I'm working on an app similar to what you describe. It will be similar to K3-EZ, but instead of having all of the various options in a tab panel in one window, there will be a number of 'mini' apps that can each be displayed in it's own window. This will allow the user to pick which app they want displayed at any one time. I currently have a band stack, RX and TX Equalizer editor, and Memory editor working. Next on the list is a window with various configuation options like you described. I'm using an SQL database which will allow a virtually unlimited number of band stack registers by band/mode, memories, EQ settings, etc. I still have lots of work to do, but hopefully I'll have something usable in a few weeks. It will be available for Mac, Windows, and maybe Linux. Not sure how well it will play with LP-Bridge at this point. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Software
Hi Tom, Everyone will answer that question differently dependent on which feature set is most important to them and what hardware they have installed in their K3. Have a look at: ftp://ftp.elecraft.com/K3/firmware/beta/hfwnotes.rtf From these notes, you can determine which release has the features that are important to you. I keep all previous 'known' firmware releases on my hard drive in separate folders and also download the latest beta release. This allows me to experiment with the latest, whilst having a known version to fall back on. This method takes all 'risk' out of the equation and allows you to contribute to firmware development. At the moment my 'known' release is V2.23 which I have played with for a couple of weeks without problems and would recommend for a basic K3. There have been a flurry of releases recently introducing new firmware and fixing old bugs which seems to be coming to a head before formal release (currently V2.34). I wouldn't bother with the current latest formal release (V2.02) as it seems to be completely out of date. Re: [Elecraft] [K3] Software suggestion: a more prominent TEST indicator
Morse code legends for button pushes would probably be very useful to those who have vision problems (I don't). But ergonomics counts for an awful lot, too. Especially during long sessions at the rig. Being able to access functions without consciously searching for the buttons and then having to shift focus to the display to see what state those buttons are in... this admittedly tiny effort does add up over time. So, I'd place audible/Morse feedback somehat above coolness factor, if not exactly top priority. Also, compared to the K2, the K3 buttons don't have the same satisfactory tactile snap. Even a simple short tone upon button push would add a lot to the operating experience I believe. I'm looking forward to this feature but no, it isn't a top priority. 73, Drew AF2Z On Tue, 01 Jul 2008 20:55:05 -0700, Brett (KC7OTG) wrote: Morse code legends are cool. I'm actually a little more worried the TEST mode will be off when it actually isn't. I like to bang out a few practice lines of code every now and then just to keep the fist limbered up. It is kind of embarrassing to open up on the air with a few stanzas from Kubla Khan or something, thinking the transmitter is disabled... Rather than a bigger visual indication for TEST, I would rather have an audible warning. Say, a distinctive chirp every 5 seconds or so. Perhaps other functions could also benefit from audible annunciatiors/warning chirps. These would be user selectable, of course. Aren't there plans to do this? Re: [Elecraft] [K3] Software suggestion: a more prominent TESTindicator
An inocuous chirp from the K3 every five seconds would be simpler than a big CH-801 HP SWR meter, I think. (A chirp would take up far less desk space as well.) 73, Drew AF2Z On Tue, 01 Jul 2008 13:42:01 +0200, Simon Brown, HB9DRV wrote: I have a nice big SWR meter - CN-801 HP so I can quickly see if there's any smoke going up the coax. RE: [Elecraft] [K3] Software suggestion: a more prominent TEST indicator
The flashing of the RF power meter on the LCD display is a very solid clue to me that the rig is making RF! Ron AC7AC -Original Message- It's just too easy to miss the little blinking TX annunciator if you've left your K3 in test mode. How about once in a while doing something more dramatic like scrolling TX TEST across the VFO A display, or flashing the display, or making the SWR and power meter displays flicker in some obnoxious way, or ... The challenge is to think of something that doesn't impair any useful aspect of test mode. 73 thanks for listening, Carl WS7L ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] [K3] Software suggestion: a more prominent TEST indicator
Morse code legends are cool. I always kinda dug that the kenwood would beep the first char of the mode that you just set things to. Now that I'm starting to learn code a little better I start to like them more and more. I'd put them at VERY low priority but do have to admit they're more of a coolness factor than much of anything else. Some of the warnings could benefit from audible nuggets. Such as the High RFI, High SWR, High Current, Batt Low. You know the ones that are warning you to stop your foolishness before you break things. ~Brett (KC7OTG) On Tue, 2008-07-01 at 07:35 -0400, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I'm actually a little more worried the TEST mode will be off when it actually isn't. I thought I read somewhere that audio chirps and Morse Code legends would be addded for various button pushes/functions? 73, Drew AF2Z ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Do our computers need MS XP OS to download and install future software to the K3 or can we still use MS 2000 OS? Wayne wrote that the current software uses the .Net 2.0 Framework. RE: [Elecraft] K3 Software Future Downloads
This is right, but note two things. The current K3 firmware loader we are using has not been tested on Vista. And, the final customer alternatives for updating the K3 firmware are still being finalized. There may be more than one alternative available, so as to satisfy users with a recent OS and Internet access as well as those running DOS and/or without Internet access. Stay tuned. While you're waiting, it wouldn't hurt to order the .NET 2.0 CD-ROM from Microsoft. It's free. Installing a firmware loader application that uses .NET 2.0 will invoke the download/installation from Microsoft automatically, but if you are on a dial-up line, that could be problematic. So, the CD-ROM is handy. 73, Ed - W0YK -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, 26 July, 2007 07:56 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 Software Future Downloads Do our computers need MS XP OS to download and install future software to the K3 or can we still use MS 2000 OS?
