RE: CE Marking of Shipping Cartons

2003-11-24 Thread Gemma Paolo

The follows text are from RTTE annex VII

3. The CE marking must be affixed to the product or to its data plate.
Additionally it must be affixed to the
packaging, if any, and to the accompanying documents.

In my esperience is better have CE mark on the carton also to not oblige the
autority to open the box for see if a goods have the CE marks or not.
I Italy customs is the first barrier and have the autority to stop a unmarked
goods.

Subject: CE Marking of Shipping Cartons

There are some in my company that believe the shipping cartons containing our
products should be CE marked to simplify customs processing especially with
the addition of the new member states in May 2004. Others feel that the
marking provides no added value to the customs processing procedure.

So, the question is what are the customs officials looking for in the way of
CE conformity and what process will best supply that information. In
particular, is there any value added in CE marking the shipping cartons?

Subject: coax grounding of E3/DS3 in the EU

 Greetings all,

I have a general question about E3/DS-3 in the EU. I
have heard that it is no longer necessary to isolate one
of the two Tx/Rx coax ports but can't find a definite
answer. I'd like to know if I can directly tie both the
TX and RX ports to chassis for intrabuilding only CO
lines. This would make EMI/EMC much easier to pass and
would get rid of the special AC coupling that would
 otherwise be necessary.

The only reason that I could ever understand for the DC
isolation requirements that used to be in place was to
prevent ground connections in IBN CO's or to eliminate
current on the shields due to differences in earth
potential between buildings. As neither of these really
apply, I really don't see why it should still be
necessary to provide the DC isolation (I have only
intrabuilding lines and most CO's are now CBN
 installations).

Does anyone know what the current status on this is?

 Thanks,
 Patrick

RE: RTTE or LVD for Equipment with E1 SELV interface

2002-10-01 Thread Gemma Paolo

EN 60950 is a harmonized safety standard also for RTTE.
For the RTTE is a manufacturer choice to use the old LVD and EMCD rule
to certify the safety and EMC requirement or the new rule of RTTE
(annex II, III, IV or IV).

Hi all

I have an equipment which can convert audio and video (phono connector)
signal from a PC to a normal HF antenna signal which can be transmitted
though a normal antenna cable in the house to your radio and TV sets.

The voltage of the HF signal is the same as normal received from an
antenna.

Does this product fall under the RTTE directive ?

According to my interpretation the definitions in art. 2 c) and d) say
that it has to be used for TX to be under this directive.

What do you think ?

Re: RTTE DoC Philosophy Question

2002-03-07 Thread Paolo Gemma

Both solution are valid.
In the RTTE you can find an article said that at your choice you can
demonstrate the conformity to the essential requirements 3.1b

using the procedure of the EMC directive if applicable.
I don't suggest this, for me, complicate way two declaration two
documentation..
You can demonstrate the compliance of the equipment to the essential
requirements 3.1a using HS listing on the OJ under the RTTE directive or
under the EMC directive this is clearly wrote on the note of the OJ:

NOTES:
1. In addition, standards published under Directives 73/23/EC and
89/336/EEC may be used to demon-

strate compliance with Articles 3(1)(a) and 3(1)(b) of Directive 1999/5/EC.

And make only one DoC for the RTTE directive using the standards of the EMC.

But I don't understand the reason to use the standard of the EMC directive
for a RTTE equipments.

Hello,

I just had an interesting conversation with the head of a approvals
authority for a country in Europe for our type of products. The discussion
centred around DoCs for the RTTE directive. His claim was since I had a
product that has a RTTE element to it then I just make a declaration to the
RTTE directive and not to the EMC directive. To support his claim he refers
to Article 3.1(b) of the RTTE directive which states 1.The following
essential requirements are applicable to all apparatus and part (b) the
protection requirements with respect to electromagnetic compatibility
contained in Directive 89/336/EEC. His interpretation is, then, that any
standard published in the OJ for the EMC standard is (by this clause) also
valid for the RTTE directive and one should make their declaration
accordingly.

My interpretation of this statement is slightly different. I believe that I
cannot make an RTTE directive DoC using EMC published standards. I felt
that the intention of this clause meant that just because you are declaring
to the RTTE directive you are in no way relieved of the obligations of the
EMC directive. Accordingly we produce a EMC declaration and a RTTE
declaration. The EMC declaration uses standards published in the EMC OJ to
show compliance and the RTTE directive DoC is to the standards published in
the OJ for that directive.

In the end I suppose this is all semantics as you end up doing the same test
suite regardless but
What are the feeling of this group. Do you agree with either position? Do
you have another interpretation?

Re: Surge Applications

There are no ETSI standards dealing with surge on antenna port.
The only body that are working on this item is ITU-T sg5 but are only start
to study the problem.
THis is normally understand not a immunity test but a survival test
(resistibility) and I know to different way: one is inject a High pulse

other is inject a high voltage pulse on the inner of the cable long some meter.

antenna is connected to the EUT using 50 ohm coaxial cable). Is the EUT's
antenna cable subject to surge test per table 2 of EN55024?
Note 2 specifies only cables which connect to outdoor cables.
This cable does that.
Table 2's title is Immunity, signal ports and telecommunications ports I
feel that an antenna fits under this category.

If so (moving on from EN55024)

How do I perform the test?
Figures 13 and 14 in IEC61000-4-5 illustrates the test set up for shielded
lines.
However, there really only seems to be one EUT. I suspect I could consider
the antenna as EUT 2 and the actual unit as EUT 1. In that case the testing
is relatively straight forward.

I consider that to be correct; the antenna is EUT 2.

If this all sounds correct, then this is just a sanity check. If I'm
incorrect or missed something...could you point me in the right direction.

I think what you may have missed is that the IEC61000-4-5 surge test may
not be appropriate for application to an antenna port. I would look at
some ETSI immunity standards to see what tests are applied to antenna
ports.

The European Union has postponed mandatory compliance with CISPR 22:1997
(EN 55022:1998) until 1 August 2003. This version of the standard includes
the new requirement for conducted emissions on cables connected to

Have other countries that require compliance with CISPR 22 (or some
variation thereof) also postponed implementation of the 1997 version? My
immediate concern is Australia.

Do you know if Switzerland generally follows the same rules -- including the
use of harmonized standards allowing for self-certification when applying
the RTTE Directive?

Even though the OJ is not a factor in Swiss law, for standards announced in
the OJ, does Switzerland require the intervention of a NB?

Does anyone have a feel for how close the spacing requirements in ETS 300

i.e. the implication is that all dimensions must be met exactly.

Anyone fallen down in Europe over this? Also, in ETS 300 119-4 it seems that
D1 is incorrectly marked, i.e. D1 should be the entire depth, not the front

RE: LVD testing suite for ITE devices

2001-08-27 Thread gemma

Hi Stuart,
Sounds like your referring to a PCMCIA radio card that can be integrated
into a host device. If so, you probably have an RTTE project that does also
include the LVD. The test suite for this device would depend on the
frequency band. If its 2.4 GHz equipment, then EN 300 328(Radio Spec), EN
300 826(EMC Spec) and EN60950(Safety Spec) would be the appropriate spec.
All EN's so your customer can self-declare the device.

Also, some say that EMF compliance may be required, although I have yet to
have a notified body require that of me. The directive can be interpreted
to include this. If you feel that it is required, there is no EN for it and
you will need to use a NB.

1. What is the procedure to obtain GSM radio approvals in 1) Europe 2)

In Europe You shall to apply the RTTE directive for this directive If you
use the module without any modification on antenna and so on you have only
to test the EMC and the safety characteries of the products all is on self
certification. The equipment, I think, is also under the medical directive

6. Does Canada have a similar approval procedure like the FDA in the States
