[FairfieldLife] Ban Fiction Now!

2006-09-10 Thread TurquoiseB
I'm amused by the new Ban Fiction! movement here
at FFL, and that the people who are calling for
restraint and censorship seem to be doing so to
protect their investment in even larger fictions.

Judy wants to ban a slightly fictional TV series
because she's afraid it would expose the larger
fiction that American voters are intelligent enough
to tell fact from fiction and then vote for the fact.

Ken Woods wants rules to keep people from being
aloud to write fiction that he feels is disrespect-
ful to Maharishi. The fiction that *he* is trying to
protect is that anyone outside a few fanatics in the
TM movement still respects Maharishi.

And Sparaig is against fictional practical jokes
(in this case a joke that *HE* made up, and that
wasn't even part of the conversation before he
inserted it there) because he's convinced that they
could cause heart attacks. The fiction that he's
trying to protect (like Ken Woods, who he is trying
to support without appearing to do so) is that some
things are too serious to be laughed at.

Go figure.

I just think it's fascinating that two of the people
who have spent the most time of any FFL posters in
history defending the numerous fictions of the TM
movement and repeating them for years as if they
were true are now ragging on fiction.

And the third protester, who obviously lives in a
*completely* fictional universe, is so offended at
someone writing a fictional parody of Maharishi that
he believes the universe *itself* is going to inter-
cede and punish the bad people writing such evil
words.

The funny thing is that all three of these people
may actually be onto something.

No, not that fiction needs to be banned or controlled,
but that it's become unnecessary.

When you have people acting like this and claiming
that *they* represent reality, fiction has definitely
become superfluous.

No more coming in the Dome ! Everybody knows that

This perversion must stop, or the Universe will

What Barry's so upset about is that I repeatedly
expose *his* fictions.

For example, here's a small sampling of Barry's
opinion of about the intelligence of American
voters.

From alt.m.t:

November 3, 2004
In reality, [Bush] got 71% [of Americans] -- the
31% who were stupid enough to vote for him and
the 40% who were too stupid to even vote.

November 3, 2004
You know what you're pissed off about,
Judy? I mean besides the astounding stupidity
of America, and the consummate wussiness of
John Kerry?

November 4, 2004
But that's Judy...still trying to make excuses
for a populace that is so brainwashed or so
brain-dead that 40% of them...don't even bother
to vote.

From FFL:

June 3, 2005
The US is not my country any more. And, far
from hating it, I love it dearly and wish
it would get over this fit of insufferable
ego and stupidity and ignorance and hatred
and greed it's going through.

October 8, 2005
Bush happened because the American people
are, on average, as stupid as he is.

For once, Bob and I are in perfect agreement.
The rest of the world perceives George W.
Bush -- in my opinion correctly -- as the
almost perfect embodiment of the collective
consciousness of the American people.

Reading this again, I think I may have
misunderstood what Barry meant. For once
he's being consistent; he's suggesting that
American voters *are not* intelligent enough
to tell fact from fiction.

I misunderstood because this makes no sense
as a reason for my wanting to ban the film.

Actually I *don't* want to ban it and would
fight any such action tooth and nail. There
are other alternatives, which I'll get to in
a minute.

Barry's purported reason makes no sense
because the result of the film airing as
scheduled could very well be that the
Republicans would maintain their hold on
Congress.

Which would certainly demonstrate that
American voters are too stupid to tell
fact from fiction, but at an unacceptable
cost.

Apparently Barry would actually *like* the
Republicans to continue to control Congress,
just for the sake of proving that American
voters are stupid. I find that mind-boggling.

In any case, here are some alternatives
that do not involve banning the film:

-- Postpone the showing until after the
election, preferably putting it on a
pay-cable channel, where it will more
clearly be perceived as entertainment
rather than as a factual presentation.

-- Show it as scheduled, but fix the
falsehoods in the film first (ABC is said
to be fixing *some* of them, but to what
extent is uncertain).

-- Show it as scheduled, but followed by
a response from representatives of those
who are falsely portrayed in the film,
or from members of the 9/11 commission,
documenting the inaccuracies.

(This last would be my preference; I don't
think ABC can adequately fix the falsehoods
without reshooting a good deal of the film,
although if they'd be willing to do that
and show the film later, that might be the
ideal solution. On the other hand, showing
it as it is, followed by a response, might
have the effect of waking some people up to
the propensity of the right wing to lie.)

The problem is not so much that American
voters are too stupid to tell fact from
fiction as that they aren't *aware* of the
facts to begin with. If all they're aware
of is what the film tells them, that *is*
what the facts are, as far as they know.

stupid, too. If you didn't think that, there
would be *no reason* to try to prevent them from
seeing a stupid revisionist-history mockumentary
just before an election. I mean, your whole
rationale for wanting the film not to be shown
before the election is that *you* think the
people are too stupid to realize they're being
lied to, and will be tempted to vote the wrong
way in the next election.

I agree with you. We're agreed. An ENORMOUS
percentage of Americans are so stupid they'd
believe that a TV mockumentary is reality and
vote accordingly. They're dolts. Homer Fucking
Simpson is smarter than the average American
voter.

Where we're disagreed is in what to do about
this. You want to control the things that they
see and hear on television so that they don't
get any wrong ideas and vote the wrong way.
Excuse me, but isn't that the way the people
you want to vote out of office think and act?

Me, I think that if the Left wants to shift
America to what they consider more positive
ways of living and acting, they should make a
few TV movies themselves showcasing those
values and presenting them as options.

But ferchrissakes they should stop whining so
much when the Right whups their asses by being
more media-savvy that they are.

[FairfieldLife] Re: Ban Fiction Now!

2006-09-10 Thread nablus108
For once, Bob and I are in perfect agreement.
The rest of the world perceives George W.
Bush -- in my opinion correctly -- as the
almost perfect embodiment of the collective
 consciousness of the American people.

Obviously we do; you elected this crazy nitwit not once but twice !
On the other hand, Bob Brigante posted a beautiful post here some
days ago where some writer stated that the american people are
perhaps stupid, but they are not bad people. I agree on that. On my
travels in the USA I have met countless intelligent, creative and
good people.

I think the american people has been manipulated to think that this
Bush fellow is good for them, and somehow they belived it. The truth
ofcourse is that this administration is a catastrophy for America.

They are sowing seeds that the american people has to pay, sooner
rather than later. It seems like this time is now. Ordinary citicens
pay
the price. Today, more american soliders have been killed in Iraq
than during 7/11 - and it will not stop, it will just continue and
continue and continue untill the americans have had enough and hit
the streets in
demonstrations. The People, ordinary folks have power, they just have
to show it, act !

Chaos reigns, likewise, in the political sphere. The nations are led
by groups dedicated to the past, unable to see that their methods
apply no longer to the needs of today and tomorrow. Blindfolded and
arrogant, they strut the stage of life like out-of-date actors,
unsure of their direction or their lines. The door marked EXIT looms
large for these destructive usurpers of power.

just before an election. I mean, your whole
rationale for wanting the film not to be shown
before the election is that *you* think the
people are too stupid to realize they're being
lied to, and will be tempted to vote the wrong
 way in the next election.

That's absolutely correct, nor have I ever
suggested otherwise. So we have another
fiction from you: that I've been dishonest
about why I don't want it shown as currently
planned.

snip
Where we're disagreed is in what to do about
this. You want to control the things that they
see and hear on television so that they don't
get any wrong ideas and vote the wrong way.
Excuse me, but isn't that the way the people
you want to vote out of office think and act?

As I said in my later post, the solution I would
prefer is for it to be shown exactly as it is,
as scheduled, but with a *rebuttal* period
afterward that presents the facts.

That would accomplish two things: (1) make
people *aware* of the facts, and (2) expose
the propensity of the right to lie, as it
has in this film.

Me, I think that if the Left wants to shift
America to what they consider more positive
ways of living and acting, they should make a
few TV movies themselves showcasing those
values and presenting them as options.

I couldn't agree more. But the trick, of course,
would be to get them on the air.

But ferchrissakes they should stop whining so
much when the Right whups their asses by being
 more media-savvy that they are.

We're working on it. In the meantime, we can't
just let this pass; the stakes are too high.

[FairfieldLife] Leading historians ask ABC to cancel the miniseries

2006-09-10 Thread authfriend
Dear Robert Iger:

We write as professional historians, who are deeply concerned by the
continuing reports about ABC's scheduled broadcast of The Path to
9/11. These reports document that this drama contains numerous
flagrant falsehoods about critical events in recent American history.
The key participants and eyewitnesses to these events state that the
script distorts and even fabricates evidence into order to mislead
viewers about the responsibility of numerous American officials for
allegedly ignoring the terrorist threat before 2000.

The claim by the show's producers, broadcaster, and defenders, that
these falsehoods are permissible because the show is merely a
dramatization, is disingenuous and dangerous given their assertions
that the show is also based on authoritative historical evidence.
Whatever ABC's motivations might be, broadcasting these falsehoods,
connected to the most traumatic historical event of our times, would
be a gross disservice to the public. A responsible broadcast network
should have nothing to do with the falsification of history, except
to expose it. We strongly urge you to halt the show's broadcast and
prevent misinforming Americans about their history.

Sincerely,

[FairfieldLife] Program in the Domes

2006-09-10 Thread Anna
Hi... I'm not in Fairfield, but was talking to a friend who's in
Fairfield...Apparently Maharishi wants more people to come to group
program and was wondering how to encourage higher attendance. (The
call yesterday afternoon?)

I mentioned to her, that from some of these posts,I get the impression
that many aren't allowed in because of association with this or that,
and that it would be good for someone to tell Maharishi during one of
the question periods -- what's been going on about restricting access,
and thus numbers aren't what they could be (?)...

My friend said that she didn't think that this is going on anymore,
that things are more open now.

So, if this is true -- re: restricting access because someone
practices non-movement jyotish, or goes to a talk by another guru, or
whatever -- as long as people are doing their program, why should
there be restrictions re: dome priviledges?

So, wouldn't it be helpful to tell Maharishi directly, especially now,
when there seems to be an opening with these phone calls, and he
questioned it directly yesterday?

If there is restricted access, and if you're one of the ones who would
like to go again, get a friend to tell Maharishi during a meeting --
todays perhaps -- as it's his concern right now.

Personally, I feel it's none of anybody's business what people do in
their private time. Apparently in Europe,(again, hear-say and
conclusions I reached with very little information) -- the movement is
much more open-minded about these kindof things. They have a much more
mature tolerant approach.

Good luck!

 Maharishi's Deathbed Confession

I want to set the record straight now that I am about to make the
final journey. I never really intended for things to get quite this
 out of whack.

When I started out I just wanted to make a few buck for my family
in
Kerala and maybe help some people in the West learn a useful
meditation that could help them relax. That was really it. I knew
the
meditation would never enlighten anyone. Hell, it didn't
enlighten
me, so how could it do that for anyone else? But people seemed so
needy, so anxious and so interested in enlightenment that I
couldn't
resist. And the money! God, the money these people would throw at
me
for this! And I could buy nice cars and really high-quality silk
and
pashmina and fly in chartered jets and all that, it was too much
for
this little old Indian boy to pass up. So I got greedy. And
eventually
I got more ambitious. And the greedier and more ambitious I became
the
more money and power I required. I became like a wild dog eating up
the countryside. At first it was a rush, then I did it just to
stay even.

Same thing with the chicks. I was supposed to keep hands off, but
they
were throwing themselves at me. I couldn't help it. Well, maybe I
could have. I mean I could have remained steadfast in my vows, but
come on! I mean, have you seen some of these girls in their
miniskirts
and all that? Especially back in the 60's and 70's? Anyway, I did
carry on with dozens, maybe hundreds, of my own disciples. At
least I
wasn't a fag. And I didn't mess with little kids like some gurus I
know. So give me credit for that.

Now all this flying stuff and these world government things and
titles, all that stuff. I really didn't want to get into that, but
the
family was growing and the people wanted more. They had
investments in
Europe and India and a lot of real estate and needed more and more
money. So I looked at the world and I decided to go the whole
route.
Hell, it worked for Hitler. That Third Reich deal was completely
believable if you were a good Nazi. So I built this grandiose
thing up
and told people we absolutely had to do it to save the world (OK,
I'm
given to exaggeration, so shoot me) and everyone needed to give me
a
million dollars each and all this stuff. And people did it! They
went
for it! I shouldn't have been surprised. After forty years of
bullshitting people I knew that no matter how outlandish I became,
no
matter how ridiculous a plan I came up with, there would always be
plenty of mindless idiots (sorry Larry and Bevan and the rest of
you
panjandrums and phony royalty, but come on, you really don't
believe
it, do you? And besides you got a lot of tail and worship and all
so
don't be too pissed at me. It's not like you starved, you know? Of
course after I die no one will give two shits about you or your
titles. But you have to admit you had some fun while it lasted,
didn't
 you?)

So here on my deathbed let me say to those whose lives and
marriages I
ruined and whom I bilked out of their entire life savings: you
could
have lived and flourished and had truly productive lives instead of
the impoverished, sad-ass, sorry lives you now have. But you would
have had to leave me years ago. You should have gotten wise to this
especially when I started that bogus flying thing. You knew you
weren't flying. You knew you were just bouncing around on
mattresses.
So why didn't you leave? A lot of people did leave. They were the
smart ones. Why did you stay? Hello! Earth to Purusha! Are you that
brain-dead? I really can't take the blame for people who are just
too
dumb to wash behind their own ears. But I do apologize for what
it's
worth. Which ain't much but it certainly makes me feel better. And
 that's the whole point, right?

Anyway, I have changed. I have one last message to give to the
world.

Inshallah! God is Great! Allah is God and Muhammad is his Prophet!
Kill the Infidels, kill all Americans and Jews and Muslims who do
not
follow Sharia! God is Great! God is Great! God is Great!

Surprised? I thought you might be. Not to worry about the
conversion:
I already have my 70 virgins all picked out.

 Lates,

 MMY

 (with thanks to Ned.)

Hey, now that you've confessed, you can get on with your life and
stop blaming an old man for your failures. No longer such an
innocent soul, eh? Better get started, times a wasting, and you
aren't getting any younger...

Mind-boggling. This is what a *real* True Believer
 looks like.

_BBC NEWS | Americas | Reagan voted 'greatest American'_
 (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4631421.stm) Quite
frankly I remember the program this television poll was
based on and remember voting in it.

BWAHAHA!!!

Let's look at MDixon's claim again:

[CBS was] about to offend an entire nation, one
that had voted Ronald Reagan, America's most
 popular president.

This was a poll in which TV viewers were asked to
call or email or write in with their preference--in
other words, a self-selected sample, not a
scientific poll.

And it was for greatest American, not greatest
American president.

Reagan narrowly edged out Lincoln and Martin
Luther King. He didn't even get a *majority*
of those who stated their preference, let alone
the entire nation.

And--this is the real kicker--the poll was
conducted *after his death*, three years after
the CBS movie incident.

 Another consideration
CBS made when deciding to pull the Ronald Reagan
movie was the fact that it was full of personal
attacks against the man and he was on his death
bed unable to defend himself. This was the main
reason for the public outcry against the movie,
Where as the ABC movie The Path to 911 deals
 with Clinton policy.

Uh-huh, right. That *misrepresents* Clinton policy
and claims he was too busy dealing with the Monica
Lewinsky scandal to go after the terrorists, blaming
him for the deaths of 3,000 people. No personal
attacks there, nosireebob.

By the way, as I recall Clinton never got or just
barely got 50 % of the total vote cast in either of
his elections where as Reagan was elected by very
 strong margins each time.

Irrelevant to your erroneous claim, but just for the
heck of it: Clinton won only 43 percent of the popular
vote in 1992 because Perot was running as a third-party
candidate and got 19 percent of the vote.

In 1996, Clinton got 49.2 percent of the popular vote
and Perot got 8.4 percent.

In neither of Reagan's elections was there a strong
third-party candidate.

MDixon, you shoulda stood in bed.

told to do. I haven't been to a residence course or WPA since the early 90's

Maharishi has softened the atmosphere remarkably. The last course was
a failure in terms of numbers, but nevertheless a fragile peace was

I think Maharishis idea went much beyond that, though important, for
this course, he wanted to save the americans from themselves.

Now that they did not show up, anything could happen.

I don't think he would have had to go back 40 years, just 30 years.

That's when the decline in initiations happened, circa 1976. That's
when he started being dishonest with the public in a big way (i.e.

obtained in the MidEast; lives have been saved.

I think Maharishis idea went much beyond that, though important, for
this course, he wanted to save the americans from themselves.

Now that they did not show up, anything could happen.

Nabby, you need to get some professional helpand quick. Your post

believe this and other, similar fairy tales.

The problem goes back to the Constitution. In my
state of Massachusetts, the democrat always easily
wins all of the state's electoral votes. I believe
there is only once instance in my lifetime where that
did not happen, when Reagan carried the vote. This
takes away the incentive for republicans to vote in
this state, and is a factor in more states than not.

RedState.org (a right wingnut site):

http://www.redstate.com/911clips

I just watched them all. The site says they're
from the *unedited* version--The Video Democrats
DON'T WANT YOU TO SEE. They include the scene
where Sandy Berger won't agree to taking down
bin Laden, and the one in which Madeleine Albright
(whose name they misspell!) defends her warning
to the Pakistanis about the missiles being fired
over their airspace at Sudan.

Both scenes, according to the principals, are
complete fabrications.

The audio, unfortunately, is out of synch with the
video in all the clips, which makes it a little hard
to follow what's going on.

But what they're intended to convey couldn't be
clearer.

 Unless someone's donating it.

Then it wouldn't be free.

From a friend ³in the know²:

It¹s true. As of today, Sept 10th, 637 have signed up in the Drier
Bldg. for
the free siddhi's courses to start soon. There are several courses
planned
between now Nov. There may be courses in Canada as well.

I'm in San Diego, but I could get up there in time. How do I sign up
for this?
