Re: [Finale] Need help with HP LJ 5000 and MacOS Mojave

2019-05-05 Thread Thomas Schaller
How I always set it up after system upgrades is to print a Configuration page
from the printer itself to see what IP address it has on the network.
Then use the HP JetDirect connection type and manually enter that IP address.
That usually does it for me.
Good luck,
Thomas

Craig, would you consider posting PDFs of a score and a part page and show us
what Dorico produces without having tweaked much?
Personally I’m more interested to see an orchestra piece.

Re: [Finale] Beaming 5/16 in One Group

2018-10-19 Thread Thomas Schaller
That will only give you 5 separate 16th notes.
Normally you would use the Composite Time Sig, but for 5/16th it doesn’t quite
work.
Normally you would type 1 in the top and then click EDU and type the added
value of 5 16th notes = 1280
But that doesn’t seem to work.

Workaround is to just have a regular 5/16 time signature and after you have
input the music, highlight the section and under Utilities select Rebeam-Rebeam
to Time Signature. Then enter the value of a half note (something bigger than 5
16th notes). That should give you what you want.

Re: [Finale] Finale doesn't change key signatures correctly.

2018-05-10 Thread Thomas Schaller
I believe what’s going on here is Michael going from a minor to a major key (or
vica versa) - that will produce a cancellation of all current accidentals and
then restating the new key signature. Easy fix: only use major keys.

Re: [Finale] Finale 25

2016-08-24 Thread Thomas Schaller
Robert,
deal breaker for me regarding linked parts is that you cannot copy certain
things from measure to measure in linked parts. For instance, I often fine tune
measure layouts in parts and if I have a part that repeats measures that
individual edit cannot be copied to other measures - instead I have to try to
make them look alike. If I remember correctly the same is true for things like
trying to copy a slur shape from one measure to another. That complicates
trying to achieve a professional look tremendously.

Has that been addressed as well?
Thanks,
Thomas Schaller

You could use Finale’s own Rebeam feature (under Utilities).
Simply select Rebeam to Time Sig and then select something like 16/16 - or
whatever fits your music.
That should break all beams

I can see that Schubert crossed out the word Mäßig, but I can't read what he
replaced it with. In most of the published editions I can find, it is given
as Langsam, but that clearly isn't what he wrote. Sometimes it is given as
Mäßig, but that is clearly crossed out. Mäßig appears in an earlier copy in
Schubert's hand (also available online through the Morgan library), but this
later copy changes that (along with a few other minor things).

Can anyone make out the word?

[Finale] Shift-Tab for Smart Shapes in 2014

2015-03-18 Thread Thomas Schaller
Hi guys,
I can't get shift-tabbing to work in smart shapes in 2014 - I use Tab and
Shift-Tab (reverse direction) often to access quickly the beginning of a
hairpin to slightly extend or reduce length.
It seems only regular tabbing (without pressing Shift) works, which means one
has to cycle through all points of a smart shape to get to the other side.
Anybody else notice that?

only other way is to select the staff which is part of a group with the Staff

unfortunately that will delete ALL group elements of that group (or ALL groups

[Finale] Mac 2010 speed issues

2010-03-02 Thread Thomas Schaller
So I have peeked around to see if others have similar issues, but
haven't heard much - so maybe some hardware guys here have some good
ideas.

I have a nice old Dual G5 (1.8GHz) running 10.4.11, recently upgraded
to 10.5.8; my video card is a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 with 64MB VRAM.

Only recently I work more in 2010 and it is pretty sluggish on my setup.
I'm flying in 2008, the program always keeps up with my speed. I use
Quickeys quite a bit.
When I switch to 2010 I find myself having to wait for the program to
catch up.
Switching tools, screen redraws, etc. - I always have to wait that
extra fraction of a second, sometimes a big fraction of a second.

Any advice? adding more memory? getting a new machine?

Thanks!

I guess it has to do with the multi-page display in Page View that

I think Darcy is asking to copy a range of systems' optimization and

Re: [Finale] Articulation Macro Bug

2007-11-21 Thread Thomas Schaller
if it's a bug, I'm glad it's there - I often have situations where I
need artics applied to more than one layer. Having to manually switch
to all layers involved, would add lots of time to the process.

One can always display only one layer and then apply the macro - that
way you will only get artics in that layer - and if you assign a
macro for showing layers (with Quickeys for instance), then setting
that up goes real fast.

My 2 cents,

I don't believe this is a feature, because previous versions didn't
behave this way and it isn't a good way to work. (It also
contradicts the way most other tools work, except Smart Tools.)

To elaborate: In the articulation tool, hold down, say, number 1
(staccato for me), draw a box around some notes, including notes in
other layers, and let go. All the notes in all the layers get
staccatos.

Is this bug well known or reproducible on other systems?

I also had problems loading my spacing libraries into 2K7 - nothing

The work-around for me was to use 2K6, load the library items into a

I gave up asking, and I gave up using 2K7.) NOTE: I am using a Mac
G5 Dual
Core 2.0 Ghz with 5.5 GB of ram, and this is the same machine I
have been

using Fin2K5 and 2K6 on with no issues.

In response to Johannes and Vern:

I also experience this behavior in 2K7, though I find it only mildly
annoying. There are other problems, and the communication with the
support staff has deteriorated markedly since MM has gone to the web
based system. It is not only mechanically more difficult to
communicate, but the quality of the responses are sometimes dismally
off the subject, requiring a request that they go back an reread the
submission, so that they understand the question. This has happened
too often to be an accident, and I can only conclude that the quality
of the support staff has fallen.

I have a problem loading a Document Options library (on a Mac). When
I load a correctly (I believe) saved library, most of the font
selections are lost - wrong fonts are substituted, requiring me to
correct them and practically destroying the advantage of being able
to load a Document Options Library. Has anyone else experienced
this? Could it be some kind of corruption on my system? I thought
that MM had acknowledged this (on the Mac side), but they now claim
that they were referring to something else, and the communication
with them has become so obtuse that I no longer know what's going on.

Attempts to communicate with MM have become more frustrating than
they are worth.

that into 2k7b and save the libraries.

Hello,

yes makes a kind of sense, geschliffen derives from the word
schleifen.
But i wouldn`t think that slur is equivalent to schleifen, it's
more like glissando or portamento.

If the composer is native german, this would make more sense.

Re: [Finale] Re Re: Wandering tempo markings

2005-11-17 Thread Thomas Schaller
are you using individual time signatures on your staves? or are you
using a pickup measure?

both these things can cause that problem
if you have a pickup measure, then instead of using Finale's old way of
entering a pickup measure - just use a different time signature for
that first incomplete measure - for instance: in a 4/4 piece with a
quarter note pickup: enter a 1/4 time signature for that first measure
with the option of displaying 4/4 rather than 1/4 (that is an option
when applying time signatures)

the problem of jumping expressions should disappear - good luck.

I've never run into this problem. When you enter it as an expression,
are you placing it as a note-attached expression, or measure-attached?

I wish I had run into this problem so I could offer you concrete
suggestions.

Try placing the expression in an otherwise blank file and see if it
does

the same thing. If it stays put, then something is corrupted in the
file where it constantly moves around.

You might also try the Data-Check option on the file where it moves and
see if it finds anything to correct. That might help.

Good luck!

if it's the latter, then try the Save As.. command instead of simply saving
them.

if it happens when you open them, I'd suggest that the person compact the
file first with something like StuffIt or ZipIt and then e-mail it.

[Finale] Switching fonts in eps file

2004-11-18 Thread Thomas Schaller
Hi,

I have a bunch of eps files that need a different music font - is there a
quick good way to go into these eps files and change one font to another?
Changing the font in the Finale files is not an option, because they are
lost.
I'm on Mac, system 9 or 10.

Thanks,

Thomas Schaller

Re: [Finale] FinMac2004c A Few Bugs

Page setup is now lost in extracted part files and is coming out as a
default US letter size. This always used to be retained as the last
'saved' page setup in the score/extract file and would come out in all
the parts then extracted from that file.

Are you sure that you specified the page format correctly in the Page Format
 for
PARTS dialog? From your above wording, this is not clear and it appears that
 you
simply entered the page format for extracted parts into the wrong dialog.

 Cheers,
 Tobias

I think you guys are talking about 2 different things - he means Page Setup,
for printing purposes and NOT the page size in the Parts format dialogue
box.

And yes, I can confirm that bug - happened to me too: Page Setup defaults to
USLetter (I had Tabloid in my score file that I extracted).
