So basically if you don't use FDS you won't be able to use the Push
technology? What are the other major benefits to using FDS over
RemoteObject? Do any of you know of a tutorial that shows how to use
RemoteObject and then deploy it on a remote site?
Thanks again,
David

Hi,

Push is just one feature of FDS. There is a lot more to this product.
An overview is here:

Some good articles that might help are here:

I've added icons to every other type of button (the same icon, called from the same component in the same way), and they work fine.

Maybe it's a bug?

Code:
 mx:PopUpMenuButton id=printMenu label=Print: Original Size icon=@Embed(source='../assets/print_16.gif')
 mx:dataProvider mx:Array mx:Object label=Print: Original Size / mx:Object label=Print: Fit to page / /mx:Array

If you're going to try it, be sure to actually create the gif, otherwise FlexBuilder throws some compile error about not finding the gif :)

Re: [Junk E-Mail - LOW] [flexcoders] DataChange event in DataGrid

 Hi tracy, did you manage to find a way to do the

Hi Chaitu

Yes, I did manage to get the dataChange to work, but I did change the
code slightly.

The latest Flex documentation says that one should use
ArrayCollections as a dataProviders for list-based controls, rather
than Arrays, and one can catch the relevant events from there (read
Flex Developer's Guide on flex.org)

For my grids I did the following:
- added a function to be called on the grid's creationComplete event:
creationComplete=initDataChange(event)
- in that function I added a collectionChange event listener:
grid.addEventListener(collectionChange, collectionChangeHandler )

So when my ArrayCollection variable in the model changed, it would
fire a collectionChange event, which would be captured by the DataGrid
(since it was wired up to listen for it in the initDataChange
function) and call the collectionChangeHandler(event) function.

Hope this helps

Regards
Tracy

I can't reproduce your Design mode warning. Maybe this

Hi,
I am trying to use the Cairngorm framework and following
this tutorial, but I get1 error and 1 warningthat
prevent things from working
http://weblogs.macromedia.com/auhlmann/ - Link to tutorial for those who may be looking.

This is just a warning in Flexbuilder so it might
not be a big deal: Design mode: Error

 Refresh to refresh design mode.Login.mxml
The "other error" that causes things to break
is:'login': identifier and class may not
have the same name.Loginline 47July 17, 2006. It
points to this line of code:
view:LoginPanel id="login" login="{ model.login
}"/ It seems to be some name clashing due to perhaps a class being
named the same as the id attribute of the above. I am using this
code right out of the box.
Anyone have any suggestions or possibilities. I tried
renaming the 'id' to something else, but it seems to require that Id as I got
tons of other errors in other files that seem to be looking for a specific value
of 'login' for the id attribute when I renmaed it.
Thanks,

Hi Tom,

It works fine if you give aheight and width to your object that is being printed.

something like:
formPrintView.width=600;formPrintView.height=300;before printing it.

Thanks,

Cheers for the response - the other work around (the one we've been using in
the meantime) is to put the printview in the MXML (not created at run time)
in a different view in the stack, change to display that view, then call new
FlexPringJob() etc.

It's like the view isn't being updated for some reason ?

[flexcoders] [Flex2, FDS] Configuring RPC

2006-07-18 Thread Thomas Rühl -akitogo-

Hi list,

I need to configure an RPC service in Flex Data Services. In addition,
the desired application has to make use of a Messaging- and/or
DataManagement-Service of the FDS environment. For that, the application
needs to run under FDS, so the RPC configuration should be made in the
Flax config files rather thatn inthe Coldfusion ones, right?

How do I manage to do so? I mean, with the application hosted under
Coldfusion, I simply tell FlexBuilder to use ColdFusion with
FlashRemoting and it publishes the app in the wwwroot of Coldfusion.

What I tried so far is to configure the Flex xml's just as the
Coldfusion ones (regarding channel and service definition), but it does
not find the adapter definition
coldfusion.flash.messaging.ColdFusionAdapter, because it lies in the
Coldfusion directories...

Or is this a wrong attempt of mine? Is there a better (possibly right)
way to configure stuff?

Cheers, Thomas

RE: [flexcoders] [Flex2, FDS] Configuring RPC

2006-07-18 Thread João Fernandes

Thomas,

To achieve this you have 3 ways ,in case you compile your app in the builder
but if you compile at the server only the 2 first will work:

1) Use a merged version of CF+FDS
2) Create your RPC channel destination at runtime (Mike Nimer gave an example
but can't remember where)

this one will only work if it's the builder who compiles your app (and not the
server).
3) Duplicate your compile file and in this one define your ColdFusion
destination so FDS doesn't know about it , then point the compile argument to
this one. FDS will use the regular one without the ColdFusion destination and
the builder will compile your app with no problem.

HTH,

João Fernandes

2006-07-18 Thread Thomas Rühl -akitogo-

Hi João,

thanks for the hints. Could you please please (with sugar on top of it
;-)) provide me with some more information about these two things

* How can I merge the files into a single one (without FDS throwing
errors all the time)? - tried that without success...
* What do you mean Duplicate the compile files? The config's or mxml's?

Is there a reliable documentation about these things? Everything I found
seems somehow teared apart and I just don't get the big picture here...

Thanks very much,

RE: [flexcoders] Re: Need help to select multiple item from a list

2006-07-18 Thread Karl Johnson

Could you clarify your specific solution a little more?

If I understand the original question correctly, it sounds
like you have two ways of handling this. One - add each item to a stored array
object when the drop event is fired on your second list. Two - You could also
just loop through the dataprovider, or just grab the dataprovider as an array of
the second list.

Does thatanswer anything? Please provide more details
and I am sure we can resolve your problem.

Thanks Tim. Got it working by directly assigning the result to the

the result, it was not showing up, for that, I'd used ArrayUtil.toArray
(result). Now its working fine :).

[flexcoders] Repeater problem

2006-07-18 Thread Steve Cox

All,

Ive a little problem Im struggling to get my
head around. Basically I have an ArrayCollection
containing a CustomField object. This
object contains various fields in addition to an ArrayCollection
called CustomFieldItems which contains further objects.
These CustomFieldObjects dont exist at start, they are populated using a webservice
call.

Now the issue I have is the need to display them using a
repeater like so:

mx:Form
width=100% height=100%

 mx:Repeater id=rpCustomFields dataProvider={model.allCustomFields}

 mx:FormItem width=100%
label={rpCustomFields.currentItem.Name}

 mx:ViewStack
width=100% height=100%

 mx:VBox width=100%

 mx:Repeater id=rpCustomFieldItem dataProvider={
model.allCustomFields.getItemAt( rpCustomFields.currentIndex
).CustomFieldItems }

  !--mx:CheckBox label={ rpCustomFieldItem.currentItem.ExtraInfoPrompt }
/--

 /mx:Repeater

 /mx:VBox

 /mx:ViewStack

 /mx:FormItem

 /mx:Repeater

/mx:Form

Upon first view this works fine, however subsequent views are
causing the following error:

Error: Repeater is not executing. I believe this is due to the
binding on: mx:Repeater
id=rpCustomFieldItem dataProvider={
model.allCustomFields.getItemAt( rpCustomFields.currentIndex
).CustomFieldItems }

My question is, how would you go about
doing something like the above?

Thanks,

Steve

RE: [flexcoders] [Flex2, FDS] Configuring RPC

2006-07-18 Thread João Fernandes
Thomas,

you couldn't find documentation because there isn't :p

Adobe launched a technote how to merge cf + fds but Tom Jordahl doesn't like it
very much.
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=4f079a4d but in the
merging web.xml from cf and flex you should keep the cf version of the
MessageBrokerServlet.

The compile files, I mean, the flex-config.xml file where you define your
channels  destinations.

When creating a new project, the services argument is set for you (go to
properties then flex compiler) but you can change this an point to any xml
file so you can have your FDS with your Messaging, DS Destinations, http, etc
and a copy of that with the additional destination for ColdFusion just for
compiling purpose.

Hi João,

thanks for the hints.

 Thomas,

 To achieve this you have 3 ways ,in case you compile your app in the
 builder but if you compile at the server only the 2 first will work:

 1) Use a merged version of CF+FDS
 2) Create your RPC channel destination at runtime (Mike Nimer gave
 an example but can't remember where)

 this one will only work if it's the builder who compiles your app (and
 not the server).
 3) Duplicate your compile file and in this one define your ColdFusion
 destination so FDS doesn't know about it , then point the compile
 argument to this one. FDS will use the regular one without the
 ColdFusion destination and the builder will compile your app with no
 problem.

 Subject: [flexcoders] [Flex2, FDS] Configuring RPC

 Hi list,

 I need to configure an RPC service in Flex Data Services. In addition,
 the desired application has to make use of a Messaging- and/or
 DataManagement- Service of the FDS environment.

 What I tried so far is to configure the Flex xml's just as the
 Coldfusion ones (regarding channel and service definition), but it does
 not find the adapter definition
 coldfusion.flash. messaging.ColdFusionAdapter, because it lies in the
 Coldfusion directories...

 Or is this a wrong attempt of mine? Is there a better (possibly right)
 way to configure stuff?

 Cheers, Thomas

[flexcoders] Drag Drop problem with browser scrolling

2006-07-18 Thread mmmmbeeeeer

Here's an interesting problem which I hope someone can help me with.I've just started playing with Flex 2 - release version and have implemented the following:1. Composite component containing a label and DataGrid in a Vboxmx:VBox xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" xmlns:vz="*" width="100%"mx:Script ![CDATA[ import mx.collections.ArrayCollection; [Bindable] public var compTitle:String; [Bindable] public var compDataProvider:ArrayCollection; ]] /mx:Scriptmx:Label text="{compTitle}" width="100%" fontSize="18" fontWeight="bold" fontFamily="Arial"/mx:DataGrid id="grid" dataProvider="{compDataProvider}" width="100%" alternatingItemColors="[#CBDDFE,#FF]" showHeaders="false" dragEnabled="true" dropEnabled="true" dragMoveEnabled="true" mx:columns mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Client" dataField="CUSTOMER"/ mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Name" dataField="NAME"/ ... etc /mx:columns /mx:DataGrid/mx:VBox2. I have actionscript code in my application file which gets a list of categories from server side and iterates over that list requesting a list of objects (Jobs in this case) for each category from the server side. It then creates one of the above components for each category, adds it to the container (a Vbox) in the Application and gives it the dataProvider containing the relevant info.So far so good - this works fine...Now, when I drag a row from the DataGrid in one component to the DataGrid in another, it works fine when the browser is at the top of the page, however if I scroll the browser window down (the Flash Player canvas is bigger than the screen) the dropping gets screwed up. To be more precise, it appears as though the drop target is getting the dragEnter event when the mouse is not actually in the right place. As I scroll the browser window down, the apparent location of the drop target (as seen by the code sending the dragEnter event) is offset to the north of the visible drop Target component. The further down the browser window is scrolled, the more the offset until it just doesn't work at all.I've tested in both IE6 and Firefox 1.5.0.4 with the same results.I'm wondering whether anyone else has seen this behaviour - a search of the archives didn't seem to reveal any prior reports.Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.Cheers,P

[flexcoders] SWFLoader how to access host application question

2006-07-18 Thread milan kosir

Hi all,I'd like to use SWFLoader to load some flex/AS3 swf, and when it is loaded into host application, I'd like to change some data on it, according to data in host application. I've seen examples in help about accessing loaded SWF with SystemManager, but I'd like to access host application from within loaded swf (in creationComplete event). Does anyone has experience how to access variables/methods in host application? I can see
this.parent.parent.parent to be SWFLoader in my host application, but it seems like I can't access parentApplication directly. Any hint would be greatly appreciated.Thanks, Milan

Nope, no change.

Adobe: is this on the official bug list? Seems like an

  I've added icons to every other type of

  Maybe it's a bug?

  Code:

1) I have a marker CustomPOIMarker, I want to embed a link and call
an actionscript function in my flex code. I have tried this with
and without _parent,parent and it never works. If I put a link to
an HTML page it works fine. But I need to notify my application
when the click has occured. Any ideas? or a better way to do this?

Example.

var markerArgs = {index:marker 1,description:a
href='asfunction:parent.cpiClicked'print something/a,
title:a
href='asfunction:_parent.cpiClicked'print something/a,
markerColor:0x990099, strokeColor:0x00};
.
.
.
function cpiClicked() : Void
{
  Echo.debug(Marker 1 clicked);
}

ok, I got the current code base working on Flex 2. Seems ViewStack does not support changeEffect anymoreanother day to tack that.http://www.cubicleman.com/cmorgchart/cmorgchart.html
It should be obvious that I'm not a UI guy ;)I'm re-writing it all now and using cairngorm too. Cairngorm really isn't needed for such a small app, but its a exercise and can serve as another example. Currently its fed from PHP using nusoap in front of some dummy data in a MySQL DB. In my company I have it sitting in front of PeopleSoft data. It should be really easy to plug it in to any hierarchical people store. Once I get things rolling again, I'll make it available via
freepository.com.hopefully. If you just have to have the source now, send me email offlist. DKOn 7/18/06, Douglas Knudsen

RE: [flexcoders] Re: HTTPService in components

2006-07-18 Thread Andrew Trice
What exactly are you trying to do? Tom's right, you can't have a
HTTPService as the root of a component. You could put the HTTPService
inside of a Canvas, Panel, etc...

If you only want the HTTPService, with extended functionality, you might
want to try creating an AS class that extends the HTTPService class.

[flexcoders] FLEX 2: Does anyone know what happened to the Data Panel in Flex 2?

2006-07-18 Thread efeminella
I was wondering if anyone knows what happened to the Data Panel that
was available in Flex 1.5? In Flex 1.5 I could see all of the methods
available in a wsdl as well as all of the parameters that each method
required. Is this panle available in FLEx 2.0. Also is the Results
panel which contained the Network monitor still available?

Thanks in advance,

[flexcoders] Scaling up.

2006-07-18 Thread Dave Wolf
No, not servers, but brain-power. To put bluntly we're looking for
the best RIA developers in the world, and I figured there's no better
place to look for that than Flexcoders, so here goes.

Basically we are actively looking for world-class and passionate
people that want to be a part of some of the coolest Flex projects
around and to be able to work side-by-side with other passionate and
experienced devs doing what we love.

What makes Flexcoders so popular is having a group of peers you can
bounce ideas and approaches off of, and learn and grow all the more
quickly. That is what I know I love about Cynergy. Small, agile,
iterative teams with a passion for the users experience, working
together and knocking out some serious apps and having fun doing it.

For those of you long-timers on this board, its pretty obvious that
the growth of interest in RIA in general and Flex as that RIA platform
has simply exploded over the last 12 months. We can see it in the
sheer number and kinds of projects we're doing in Flex today. If you
are interested in being a part of this place, and in working on these
projects please drop me a quick line. I'd love to show you what we're
doing, how we do it, and talk about how you can be a part of it.

Oh, and you can even meet a few of the guys and what we're doing
over on our blogs too.

See ya,

[flexcoders] Re: Need help to select multiple item from a list

2006-07-18 Thread dadrobson
Karl:

The problem I'm having isn't with selecting the items per se. It's
with sending the data to the middle tier. The value of each item is an
integer, but when I try to send the values to the middle tier, the
Java code interprets the array (or comma-separated list) as a single
string and breaks.

Here's the list control:
mx:List id=lsSelected dataProvider={selectedServiceList}
labelField=@name allowMultipleSelection=true dragEnabled=true
dropEnabled=true dragMoveEnabled=true /

Here's the relevant ActionScript:

private function saveChanges():void {
var arr:Array = [];
var params:Object = new Object;
for(var i:String in selectedServiceList){
var obj:Object = selectedServiceList.getItemAt(int(i));
arr.push([EMAIL PROTECTED]);
}
params.save=true;
params.selectedProxiedServiceIds = arr;
proxiedServiceUpdate.method=POST;
proxiedServiceUpdate.send(params);
}

Can you see where I'm going wrong?

Jim

 Could you clarify your specific solution a little more?

 If I understand the original question correctly, it sounds like you have
 two ways of handling this. One - add each item to a stored array object
 when the drop event is fired on your second list. Two - You could also
 just loop through the dataprovider, or just grab the dataprovider as an
 array of the second list.

 Does that answer anything? Please provide more details and I am sure we
 can resolve your problem.

  Destinations, http, etc and a copy of that with the additional

  * I make a copy of the services-config.xml. (The cf- or flex-version?)
  * In the new file, I set up a destination named Coldfusion for dummy

  * In the project's properties, I select the duplicated file.

[flexcoders] SWFLoader how to access host application

2006-07-18 Thread kosir.milan
Hi all, I'm posting this again after first unseccesfull post.

I'd like to use SWFLoader to load some flex/AS3 swf, and when it is
loaded into host application, I'd like to change some data on it,
according to data in host application. I've seen examples in help about
accessing loaded SWF with SystemManager, but I'd like to access host
application from within loaded swf (in creationComplete event). Does
anyone has experience how to access variables/methods in host
application? If I trace this.parent.parent.parent in loaded swf I can
see my SWFLoader in host application, but it seems like I can't access
parentApplication directly.
Any hint would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Milan

 I was messing around with the dashboard sample on the adobe site

 And everything was going fine. Ever since upgrading FP9 to 9.0.16.0
 though I can't get the application to successfully load. I redownloaded
 the source just in case I inadvertently changed something - but same
 affect. I get the pretty blue background and a status window that
 freezes about 20% through the load.

 Any ideas?

[flexcoders] How do I reset itemRenderer inside DataGrid when dataProvider is updated?

2006-07-18 Thread ben.clinkinbeard
Hello, I have seen this dicussed on here a bit but nothing seems to be
working for me. I have a DataGrid whose dataProvider property is bound
to an XMLList. One of the columns, however, uses an itemRenderer to
display a checkbox with a label. The label comes from the data item,
so this is what my itemRenderer component currently looks like:

?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8?
mx:HBox xmlns:mx=http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml;
horizontalAlign=center creationComplete=getLabel()
mx:Script
![CDATA[
import
com.fmr.tests.PSA_Cairngorm.business.namespaces.DOCUMENT_METADATA_NAMESPACE;

private function getLabel():void
{
use namespace DOCUMENT_METADATA_NAMESPACE;
var q:QName = new
QName(DOCUMENT_METADATA_NAMESPACE, PlanNumber);
cb_planNumber.label = data[q];
}
]]
/mx:Script
mx:CheckBox id=cb_planNumber /
/mx:HBox

The problem is that when the XMLList that is the dataProvider is
updated, the checkboxes' labels get updated correctly, but the
selected state of the checkboxes does not. So basically I need to
capture that event so that I can uncheck all of the checkboxes. A
'labelChanged' event or something similar would be great but doesn't
seem to exist. What am I missing here?

Thanks in advance,
Ben

Specifically, you can just install Flex Enterprise Services on a
J2EE server on the same machine as CF, configure everything and
you're good to go. They live very nicely side-by-side.

FYI, we've made the CF 7.0.2 doc for CF/Flex 2 integration available
online where you can quickly reference it as needed

[flexcoders] Tree ItemRenderer and Scrollbar Bug

2006-07-18 Thread sufibaba
Hi Adobe Engineers,

This bug happens when the tree control is over 600 pixels in height.
Basically when the vertical scrollbar is moved up and down, the tree's
nodes goes haywire. I've seen this bug in the beta although in the
beta, it was much worse. Currently, the problem is much more
pronounced with a custom ItemRenderer. Without the a custom
ItemRenderer, one can see strange behaviours with branch nodes opening
and closing while the scrollbar is moved up and down.

Thanks,

Tim

[flexcoders] align header text to the bottom of the header cell

2006-07-18 Thread Pan Troglodytes

I have a grid with several headers with headerWordWrap=true. Some of the headers wrap and others don't need to. Unfortunately, the text in the header aligns to the top of the cell. I would like it to align to the bottom, so if there's a short, one word header it will be sitting on the bottom of the header instead of the top. I've tried vertical-align: bottom with no success. Is there any way to do this using the default header or will I have to build my own renderer? Seems pretty basic.

[flexcoders] Re: Tree ItemRenderer and Scrollbar Bug

2006-07-18 Thread sufibaba
Update on this bug,

It seems that the bug is not in the tree's opening and closing, in my
code, I have a bit of code that opens a branch node when the user
clicks on the tree node row (not just on the branch opening icon).
This opening code is hooked to the Tree's Click event.

The problem seems to be that when the scrollbar is moved up and down,
it fires the tree's click event, which goes through my node opening
section.

It appears that this firing of the click event by the scrollbar is
causing the problem.

Thanks.

Tim

[flexcoders] Re: How do I reset itemRenderer inside DataGrid when dataProvider is updated?

2006-07-18 Thread Tim Hoff

Hey Ben,
In addition to setting the label, you have to set the selected property.
var q:QName = new QName(DOCUMENT_METADATA_NAMESPACE, "PlanNumber");var r:QName = new QName(DOCUMENT_METADATA_NAMESPACE, "PlanNumberSelected");cb_planNumber.label = data[q];cb_planNumber.selected = data[r];Depending on your data structure, PlanNumberSelected is the value field from the data.
-TH--- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, "ben.clinkinbeard" [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello, I have seen this dicussed on here a bit but nothing seems to be working for me. I have a DataGrid whose dataProvider property is bound to an XMLList. One of the columns, however, uses an itemRenderer to display a checkbox with a label. The label comes from the data item, so this is what my itemRenderer component currently looks like: ?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"? mx:HBox xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" horizontalAlign="center" creationComplete="getLabel()" mx:Script ![CDATA[ import com.fmr.tests.PSA_Cairngorm.business.namespaces.DOCUMENT_METADATA_NAMESPACE; private function getLabel():void { use namespace DOCUMENT_METADATA_NAMESPACE; var q:QName = new QName(DOCUMENT_METADATA_NAMESPACE, "PlanNumber"); cb_planNumber.label = data[q]; } ]] /mx:Script mx:CheckBox id="cb_planNumber" / /mx:HBox The problem is that when the XMLList that is the dataProvider is updated, the checkboxes' labels get updated correctly, but the selected state of the checkboxes does not. So basically I need to capture that event so that I can uncheck all of the checkboxes. A 'labelChanged' event or something similar would be great but doesn't seem to exist. What am I missing here? Thanks in advance, Ben

Re: [flexcoders] SWF Loader

2006-07-18 Thread JesterXL

LocalConnection. Why?

Browser support.

I've seen no reports on Flashcoders, Flexcoders, or
blogs about LocalConnection "not working". I've seen a few for
ExternalInterface. Usually they are work aroundable, but that's one more
thing to worry about in an already diffucult profession.

Secondly, relying on the browser makes your code
less portable. For example, I can add 5 lines of code in my Flex 1.5 apps,
and make them work as executable applications. If you used
ExternalInterface, you couldn't do that.

Third, ExternalInterface blocks. While this
could be viewed as a nice thing by Win32/fat client developers, it is actually a
bottleneck. It doesn't scale; meaning, if a process takes 20 seconds, so
to will your app not do anything for 20 seconds. LocalConnection is
asynchronous, and Flash Developers (and soon to be Flex developers) are used to
this style of development: register for an event, do something, act on the
response. In the meantime, you can do other stuff like play animations,
have the user do other things in the app, etc. The process in the other
app has no direct impact on the app making the call. If, however, you're
Flex app you are talking to is having a recursion puke... well, that's an
indirect impact, but you can't really control that; bad code is bad code.
Fix it.

Fourth, security. ExternalInterface has more
tendrils in the browser, and thus is bound by the weird (weird to me) security
restrictions a browser places on it, like iframes, etc. LocalConnection
follows the standard rules of Flash Player. Easier to debug, and easier to
fix via crossdomain.xml, and underscore's in front of the name.

Bottom line, you can still control SWF's that you
embed that are Flash 8, they are just stripped of code; they still retain their
labels. Additionally, as I've said before, plans by various individuals
are in the works for utilizing Socket to communicate to these SWF's. In
the meantime, LocalConnection enforced via Interfaces is your best
bet.

Actually Ben, you shouldn't have to get the data in the itemRenderer. The data should be passed to the itemRenderer from the DataGridColumn. The itemRenderer would look like this:
?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?mx:HBox xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" horizontalAlign="center"mx:CheckBox id="cb_planNumber label="{data.PlanNumber}" selected="{data.PlanNumberSelected}"//mx:HBox

2006-07-18 Thread ben.clinkinbeard
Thanks for the reply, Tim. Unfortunately, the selected state is not
held in the data. The checkboxes should always begin unchecked, but
the user can (obviously) check them. The checkboxes apparently get
reused though, not all created every time, because
cb_planNumber.selected = false; does not work either.

Thanks,
Ben

  so this is what my itemRenderer component currently looks like:

  ?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8?

  horizontalAlign=center creationComplete=getLabel()

  The problem is that when the XMLList that is the dataProvider is

  seem to exist. What am I missing here?

[flexcoders] Re: State vars: good, bad, ugly?

2006-07-18 Thread ben.clinkinbeard
Thanks for the replies everyone. My app/TN actually has 8 states/tabs,
but I still ended up going with the simple approach. In case anyone is
interested, the code is below. Further thoughts still welcome.

mx:TabNavigator id=tn change=updateActiveTabIndex()
selectedIndex={ModelLocator.getInstance().activeTabIndex}
 view:SearchTab label=Search id=searchTab width=100%
height=100% /
 view:DocumentTab label=Document id=documentTab width=100%
height=100% /
 !-- More tabs here --
/mx:TabNavigator

And the function that keeps my model updated when the tabs are
directly clicked:

private function updateActiveTabIndex():void
{
 ModelLocator.getInstance().activeTabIndex = tn.selectedIndex;
}

And the types of commands I make from other parts of the app:

ModelLocator.getInstance().activeTabIndex = ModelLocator.DOCUMENT_TAB;

Cheers,
Ben

[flexcoders] Serialization issues with floats

2006-07-18 Thread Mike_Robinson_98
I have a rounded float value on the server of, say 0.7887. When it

source value during serialization? Or is my only choice to round it
again after arriving at the client? Has anyone had any experience in

[flexcoders] importing xml to my flex app

So far, I have the xml doc loaded into XML object in my app using

loaded the XML object. I guess my problem from here is how to access
the attributes in my XML object to populate my list???

RE: [flexcoders] Flex 2 .0 and .NET

2006-07-18 Thread Lance Linder

I have had excellent results using the
open source Fluorine project on several internal projects. It doesnt
support all the features of FDS like WebORB but you do get full AMF3 remoting
capabilities with .NET 1.1 and 2.0.

With the results I have had this far I
will likely use Fluorine on more and more projects in the future. My only
complaint so far is that ServiceCapture doesnt work with Fluorine but
the maker of ServiceCapture seemed to be open to looking into this if I provide
a test server and application for him.

Hope this helps,

Lance

Hi everybody,

I have a huge legacy in C#, and I would like to use it with Flex 2.0.
As long as I know there only a few solutions still in alpha like
fluorine and some other, fot Remoting with .NET.

I have worked with AMFPHP and it works OK, but I would like to have a
Remoting solution for .NET.

WebORB seems to be OK but my project cannot afford it.

I know this issue has been discussed some time ago, but as the time
passes some other new solutions may appear.

Does anyone knows a good and reliable solution for Remoting with .NET
and Flex 2

Thanks in advance

[flexcoders] RE: MenuBar itemClicked event not firing

2006-07-18 Thread shahlavi
I have a menubar with menu items which have submenus and some that
don't. The submenus are firing the itemClicked event as expected,
however the menu items which don't have any submenus are not firing
any events at all! This is directly from the Flex 2 final docs:

itemClick (MenuEvent.ITEM_CLICK) Dispatched when a user selects an
enabled menu item of type normal, check, or radio. This event is not
dispatched when a user selects a menu item of type separator, a menu
item that opens a submenu, or a disabled menu item.

Here's what my XMLList looks like which I'm using as my dataProvider:

private var menubarXML:XMLList =

menuitem label=Local Areas
menuitem label=Manage Designated Local
Areas data=1A/
menuitem label=Manage Local Area Maps
data=1B/
menuitem label=Manage Local Service Terms
data=1C/
/menuitem
menuitem label=Record Admin
menuitem label=Manage Reason Not To
Display data=2A/
menuitem label=Manage Type Of Site data
=2B/
/menuitem
menuitem label=Admin
menuitem label=Manage Accounts data=3A/
menuitem label=Manage Personal Account
data =3B/
/menuitem
menuitem label=View data=4 /
menuitem label=Area Switch data=5/
menuitem label=Logout data=6/

/;

As you can see there are nodes which don't have any children yet I'm
not recieving any sort of events from these at all.

Has anyone come across this issue at all? Any ideas on what I maybe
doing wrong?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Farid

[flexcoders] Re: how to do rounded corners on just the top or just the bottom of a canvas

2006-07-18 Thread Doug Lowder
Hi Hank,

You might be thinking of the Panel class. Setting cornerRadius on
Panel with roundedBottomCorners=false results in rounded corners at
the top only. I doubt this will work for the Canvas class.

I got rounded corners at the top only in the CSS box explorer using:
  corner-radius: 10px 0px 0px 10px;

And at the bottom only using:
  corner-radius: 10px 0px 0px 10px;

[flexcoders] Re: Flex and CF

2006-07-18 Thread Jim
Damon,

When you say, They live nicely side-by-side, how is Coldfusion
loaded? Built-in Web Server, Multiserver (JRUN4), Using IIS or Apache?
Do they work side-by-side if CF is loaded with JRUN and FDS is loaded
with JRUN too, on the same machine?

Coldfusion developers everywhere are having issues getting FDS Express
to work with CF. Sure we can update CF to 7.0.2. We can even install
FDS. That's easy. But logic identifies one similarity between CF and
FDS...ah, they both use JRun. So logic says, they should be able to
use the same JRun installation; have one single JRun folder. Is that
not the case? (I've seen the technote that has us combining web.xml
files, coping over other files to the lib folder, etc...but that
technote is bogus.)

[flexcoders] Re: MenuBar itemClicked event not firing

2006-07-18 Thread Mike_Robinson_98
I just ran into this issue. Apparently menu items refer only to
submenus. Menus without submenus are not considered menu items are
therefore do not respond to the itemClicked MenuEvent. However, they
will respond to the click MouseEvent. So it looks like you'll need 2
handlers - one for itemClicked and one for click.

-Mike

 I have a menubar with menu items which have submenus and some that
 don't. The submenus are firing the itemClicked event as expected,
 however the menu items which don't have any submenus are not firing
 any events at all! This is directly from the Flex 2 final docs:

 itemClick (MenuEvent.ITEM_CLICK) Dispatched when a user selects an
 enabled menu item of type normal, check, or radio. This event is not
 dispatched when a user selects a menu item of type separator, a menu
 item that opens a submenu, or a disabled menu item.

 Here's what my XMLList looks like which I'm using as my dataProvider:

 private var menubarXML:XMLList =

 menuitem label=Local Areas
 menuitem label=Manage Designated Local
 Areas data=1A/
 menuitem label=Manage Local Area Maps
 data=1B/
 menuitem label=Manage Local Service Terms
 data=1C/
 /menuitem
 menuitem label=Record Admin
 menuitem label=Manage Reason Not To
 Display data=2A/
 menuitem label=Manage Type Of Site data
 =2B/
 /menuitem
 menuitem label=Admin
 menuitem label=Manage Accounts data=3A/
 menuitem label=Manage Personal Account
 data =3B/
 /menuitem
 menuitem label=View data=4 /
 menuitem label=Area Switch data=5/
 menuitem label=Logout data=6/

 /;

 As you can see there are nodes which don't have any children yet I'm
 not recieving any sort of events from these at all.

 Has anyone come across this issue at all? Any ideas on what I maybe
 doing wrong?

 Any help would be appreciated.

 Thanks,

 Farid

 Thanks for the reply, Tim. Unfortunately, the selected state is not
 held in the data. The checkboxes should always begin unchecked, but
 the user can (obviously) check them. The checkboxes apparently get
 reused though, not all created every time, because
 cb_planNumber.selected = false; does not work either.

   Hello, I have seen this dicussed on here a bit but nothing seems

bound
   to an XMLList. One of the columns, however, uses an itemRenderer to
   display a checkbox with a label. The label comes from the data item,
   so this is what my itemRenderer component currently looks like:

   ?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8?
   mx:HBox xmlns:mx=http://www.adobe.

   /mx:Script
   mx:CheckBox id=cb_planNumber /

RE: [flexcoders] Best $$$ Price on Flex? (The Scoop)

2006-07-18 Thread Kevin Mulvihill

Actually, it turns out David is correct, exactly as
stated.

From the Education Purchasing FAQ at http://www.adobe.com/education/purchasing/faq.html:

"Good news! You can use Adobe Education software (any
title!) to produce commercial/professional paid-for work when you leave school,
or even while you are in school. In this regard, Adobe does not limit how
student software is used. So students can use it to learn and to make
money!
(Of course, students must agree to the
terms of the End User Licensing Agreement which appears during installation
just as every software customer must do.)"
Regarding my other questionabout limitations on the educational
products, the same FAQ says:
"The
Education and retail versions are virtually identical we do not modify the
software itself. To differentiate the product offering between education and
retail, we may remove some clip art, some fonts, or other non-application
resources. So really, the only difference is price. Student customers can be
assured that this as an opportunity to get the full version without paying the
full price."
Just to
be thorough, the FAQ goes on to say that:
"You are
able to continue to use your Education version serial number when you leave
school to upgrade to future commercially priced versions if you want to, rather
than having to buy the next full version. So you save money now while you are
a student, and also after you graduate!"
In
short, this is an extremely cool program Adobe has. I salute them for it! If the
goal really is to get a million folks using Flex, then the pricing for the
educational Flex version will go a long way toward bringing new Flex advocates
into the fold. I'm pretty darn impressed.
Thanks
to all of you for your comments, but especially to Greg Hamer, who initially
broached the idea of academic licenses...
Kevin

  There are no functional limits on the product, however

The traditional limitations are that you must be in
education, and you must only use it for educational purposes. I.E. if you
want to release an application that you got paid to build, you need to buy
the full version.

Re: [flexcoders] SWF Loader

2006-07-18 Thread Derek Vadneau

Awesome explanation, Jesse. While I don't completely agree with the blocking issue the others are enough to convince me.

Thanks.
On 7/18/06, JesterXL [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

LocalConnection. Why?

Browser support.

I've seen no reports on Flashcoders, Flexcoders, or
blogs about LocalConnection not working.

In
the meantime, LocalConnection enforced via Interfaces is your best
bet.
