CAUTION: External Email!

Sometimes that is not enough. If you still have empty pages, in the top ribbon,
click Special. In the drop down, click Delete pages..., and then enter the page
number(s) to delete. That has always worked for me.

Check your pagination. If you have it set to an even number of pages and your
text ends on an odd number, FM inserts a blank page at the end.

Format > Page Layout > Pagination > Before Saving & Printing drop-down. If it's
set to "Make Page Count Even", there's your culprit.

[Framers] FrameMaker 11 - blank pages appearing at the end of imported file

2020-04-16 Thread George, Brenda
I am working in Structured FrameMaker 11.

After the importing the file, there are blank pages appearing at the end of the
file.

How do I eliminate these pages so that they don't appear after a file has been
imported into FrameMaker?

In my EDD, I have an element named 'mainhead' that I would like to apply
different paragraph tags to depending on the context of the 'mainhead' element.

What do I need to do in order to do this?

[Framers] Structured FrameMaker 11, version 11.0/0/380 – Issue with Avenir Fonts

2020-02-27 Thread George, Brenda
This is a follow-up to a previous post. I have additional information
concerning this issue and would like some input.

I am working in Structured FrameMaker 11, version 11.0/0/380 in a Windows 10
environment.

I’m encountering a font issue involving the following Avenir fonts:
AvenirLTStd Medium.otf (Avenir LT Sid 65 Medium)
AvenirLTStd MediumOblique.otf (Avenir LT Sid 65 Medium+Italic)

In the FrameMaker paragraph designer, when I select the Avenir 65 Medium font,
the only available choice that I had under 'Weight' was 'Bold'. The choice of
‘SemiBold’ was not available. I was not able to apply the ‘Bold’ and ‘Bold
Oblique’ versions of the Avenir 65 Medium font.

I downloaded a free version of the following fonts and installed them:
AvenirLTStd Medium.otf
AvenirLTStd MediumOblique.otf

This resolved the font issue. Both the ‘SemiBold’ and the ‘Bold’ weights are
displaying in the paragraph designer, and I now can apply the SemiBold and Bold
version of the fonts.

We did not experience any font issues with other Adobe products when we were
using the original set of Avenir fonts. This font issue appears to have only
occurred with Adobe FrameMaker 11.

The question is whether this issue was caused by the 2 fonts that were included
in the original font set:
AvenirLTStd Medium.otf
AvenirLTStd MediumOblique.otf

or whether this issue is correlated with FrameMaker 11, version 11.0/0/380?

Any thoughts concerning this will be appreciated.

[Framers] FrameMaker 11 in Win 10 Environment - Avenir 95 Black and Black Oblique fonts not rendering correctly

2020-02-21 Thread George, Brenda
I am working in Structured FrameMaker 11, version 11.0/0/380 in a Windows 10
environment.
We are creating new templates that include the Avenir font family. We are
encountering issues with Avenir 95 Black and Black Oblique fonts not rendering
correctly in FrameMaker.
In the FrameMaker font menu, the following avenir fonts are available:
[cid:image001.png@01D5E8CB.CC1570E0]
It is my understanding that in a Windows environment, the Avenir 95 Black fonts
is the equivalent of Avenir Medium when bold. The Avenir 95 Black Italics is
the equivalent of Avenir 65 Medium when bold and italics.
[cid:image002.png@01D5E8CB.CC1570E0]
In FrameMaker, when I select Avenir LT Std 65 Medium, in the paragraph designer
the only choice that I have available under 'Weight' is 'Bold'. I do not see an
option of Regular or Bold. When this font is applied to a FrameMaker document,
it does not appear to be a bolded version of Avenir LT Std 65 Medium:
[cid:image003.png@01D5E8CB.CC1570E0]
This issue is not occurring when using other applications. The font can be
successfully applied in InDesign.
Any ideas as to why this issue is occurring in FrameMaker?

[Framers] Structured Adobbe FrameMaker 11 - HTML tag conversion Using xsl

2017-01-23 Thread George, Brenda
I posted the following issue to the W3 Schools Forum last week, but have not
received a response to date:

I work with xml files that are imported into Structured Adobbe FrameMaker 11
using an importing application that was created internally.

I am working with an xml documents that have html tags embedded in them. The
character entities that are embedded in the html need to be converted to tags:

For example, the following character entities are part of the html:

I need to perform these conversions
Convert '' to ''

Convert '' to ''

Convert '' to ''

I have successfully converted these 3 character entities in the DTD by adding
entity declarations. For example:

I will be receiving these xml documents frequently, and the html text changes,
so there will probably be additional character entities (beyond the 3 above)
that require conversion.

Is there another way to perform these character entity conversions without
having to add an entity declaration in the DTD for each one?

Thank-you for any assistance that you can provide.

Structured FrameMaker 11 Console Font Error Message Displays when postscripting and creating PDFs

2014-03-26 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
In my office we are using Structured FrameMaker 11 in a Windows 7 environment.

A co-worker is encountering an error message when creating postscript files
from Structured FrameMaker 11 files to send to the printer. The FrameMaker
console displays the following message:
The Times Font is not available.
It will be replaced by Times New Roman.

This error message does not display when the FrameMaker template is opened, or
when the xml file that is imported into the FrameMaker template is imported.

I created a MIF file of the FM11 template and neither Times or Times New Roman
is included in the template. The problem seems to occur when postscripts or
PDFs are created. I noticed the error message displaying on my computer when I
created a PDF with registration marks. When I viewed the pdf there is file
information that appears at the top of the PDf near the registration marks that
includes the file name, date, and time. This information appears as Times New
Roman. When the co-worker created a PDf without using registration marks, the
font error message still displayed.

I added the following line of code to my maker.ini file:
Times, *, *, *=Times New Roman, *, *, *
and this appears to have eliminated the font error message from displaying.

I'd like to determine where this Times font or the reference to times exists so
that I can eliminate it altogether. Times does not appear to be in the
FrameMaker templates, the EDD, or the read/write Rules.

Is there a systems file that FM11 launches when creating postscripts and PDFs
that might contain code that references Times instead of Times New Roman?
Any help with resolving this will be appreciated.

FrameMaker Console Window and Font Issue

2014-03-12 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
I work in an office that uses an automated process to import XML files into
FrameMaker 11. After importing, the files are formatted into FM11 documents. We
are working in a Windows 7 environment.

We recently upgraded the Zapf Dingbats font family to ITC Zapf Dingbats Std
font family.

When I import the xml file, I am receiving the following FrameMaker Console
message:
The Zapfdingbats Font Family is not available.
It will be replaced by Adobe Pi Std.

I was advised to add the following line of code to the maker.ini file:
[UnknownToKnownFontMap]
Zapfdingbats, *,*= ITC Zapf Dingbats Std,*,*

After making this change, when I imported an xml file, the FrameMaker Console
box is displaying the following message:
The Zapfdingbats Font Family is not available.
It will be replaced by ITC Zapf Dingbats Std.

What is causing the FrameMaker Console box to display and how can I fix it so
that this window doesn't display everytime I import? I am working with multiple
templates, EDDs, and Rules files. This message is displaying for all of the
imports that I am performing.

Any assistance with this issue will be appreciated.

Structured FM 11 Font management issue

2014-03-05 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
My office recently upgraded to FrameMaker 11 in a Windows 7 environment. We
previously used FrameMaker 8 | Windows XP.
We are in the process of replacing the following fonts:
Courier
Zapf Dingbats

With the following:
Courier New
ITC Zapf Dingbats Std Medium

I am having problems with Zapf Dingbats being replaced with ITC Zapf Dingbats
Std Medium. I have used the FrameMaker 11 fonts pod to update these fonts for
all of the appropriate FrameMaker files.

We use an automated process to create the FrameMaker files. The process
involves importing XML feeds into Structured FrameMaker 11 using an automated
process. After the XML has been imported, it is fully formatted in FrameMaker
11. After I select the xml file to import and the automated process is about to
import the xml file into FrameMaker 11, the FrameMaker console is displaying
this message:
The Zapfdingbats font is not available.
It will be replaced by AdobePiStd.
The Zapfdingbats font is not available.
It will be replaced by AdobePiStd.
The Courier font is not available.
It will be replaced by Courier New.

When I view the fonts in this newly created FrameMaker 11 file in the font pod,
the AdobePiStd font is displayed as part of the fonts in this file. I did
update the Zapf Dingbats occurrences in the FrameMaker template to ITC Zapf
Dingbats Std Medium and I updated all of the other systems files as well. I did
update the FrameMaker Edd.

I looked at the maker.ini file and I noticed the following code:
; Font Entries Added in Frame 8 due to Font Set Changes
Zapfdingbats, *,*= Adobe Pi Std,*,*

In the automated process that I am using, when the xml feed is about to be
imported is this line of code causing FrameMaker 11 to override the font
changes that I made to all of the FrameMaker 11 files? Should I change this
line of code to this in order to fix the problem:
Zapfdingbats, *,*= ITC Zapf Dingbats Std,*,*

Any help that you can give me will be appreciated.

Structured FM11 - Issue with Saving FrameMaker File

2013-11-05 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
I am working in a Structured FrameMaker 11 | Windows 7 environment. I have been
working on a test computer. Another testing site was built today, and I am
currently working in this newly built computer. I am imported xml files into FM
11 using an automated process. The imported xml files are formatted upon
completion of the import into FM11. In the previous computer that I used for
testing, when I saved the newly imported FM11 file, I had to save the
FrameMaker file using Save As the first time. When I did this, the FrameMaker
file saved with the existing file name. I did not need to apply a new file name
before saving. If I attempted to save the file the first time using Save, when
I closed and then reopened the FrameMaker file, some of the formatting was
lost, particularly with tables.

In this newly built computer, I am finding that when I perform a Save As, I am
receiving an error message that reads:

This document was saved to a temporary file, but FrameMaker can't rename it to
have the correct name. The newer version has an odd suffix (See attached image)

If I want to save the file using Save As I have to change the name, then it
will save, and when I reopen the Framemaker file, the formatting will be intact.

Is there a setting that I need to change in FrameMaker 11 in order for me to be
able to Save As the Framemaker files without having to change the name before
saving? As mentioned, in the other test site that I worked in I was able to
Save As without changing the file name.

Structured FrameMaker 11 Windows 7 Font Issues

2013-10-31 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
In my office we are upgrading from Structured FrameMaker 8 in a Windows XP
environment to Structured FrameMaker 11 in a Windows 7 environment. I am
currently performance testing the tasks that I need to perform. Part of the
tasks involve importing XML feeds into Structured FrameMaker 11 using an
automated process. After the XML has been imported, it is fully formatted in
FrameMaker. I am noticing that most of the xml imports are throwing a font
issue message. Refer to the attachment image named "font_issue_message" for an
example of this message. Please note that I during this testing period, we
upgraded two font families that are used:
Imago Book
Bembo

These were upgraded to:
Imago BQ
Bembo STD

This upgrade involved reinstalling the fonts on the test computer. This is when
I started to notice these font related error messages.

I updated the FrameMaker templates and the EDD with the new fonts. The attached
image named "font_issue_message" displays an font issue message that I am
receiving. The font Bembo is the old font that has been replaced by Bembo STD.
I'm also noticing Times is displaying in the error message. When the new fonts
were installed this appears to have been replaced with Times New Roman.

I'm also encountering a FrameMaker console message with one set of xml feeds
that are imported into a specific template. Please refer to the attached text
file named "FrameMaker_Console_xml_importing_error_message". This is occurring
because there are some xml tags that need to be unwrapped via the Read/Write
Rules before being imported into the FrameMaker template. I think that this is
why this error message is occurring. I was able to fix this in other FrameMaker
templates by removing the unwrapping command in the Read/Write Rules. In order
to maintain the structure for this template I need to maintain this unwrapping
feature in this template. When I validate the imported FrameMaker file using
the FrameMaker validation tool, these FrameMaker files are valid and are
formatted correctly. The problem is when I create pdfs, the font Imago BQ Bold
is not embedding in the pdf. It is being substituted with Imago BQ BoldItalic.
I have attached a screen capture named "Imago BQ Bold not embedding" of the
Adobe Acrobat Pro Document Properties/Fonts box that displays the embedded
fonts for the problem pdfs. This font embedding issue is not occurring with the
other FrameMaker files that use other templates.

I ran a test in which I eliminated the xml code that was causing the FrameMaker
console error message. When I imported the xml feed into the FrameMaker 11
template, the imported xml feed did not throw an error message. I generated a
pdf for this FrameMaker file and the pdf is still substituting Imago BQ Bold
with Imago BQ BoldItalic and is not embedding Imago BQ Bold font into the pdf,
so I do not think that there is a correlation between the FrameMaker console
error message that I am getting and the issue concerning the PDF font
substitution issue.

The version of Adobe Acrobat that I am using is Adobe Acrobat X Pro.

Any help that you can provide to me will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Brenda George

FW: Structured FrameMaker 11 Windows 7 Font Issues

2013-10-31 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
I have additional information concerning the pdf issue with Imago BQ Bold not
embedding in the PDF and being substituted with Imago BQ BoldItalic. After I
generate the pdf, there is a Frame console message displaying that indicates:
Two or more font files with the same name 'UniversLTStd Regular Light Condensed
(C:\windows\Fonts\UniversLTStd-LightCn.otf) are installed. Only the first font
file will be used"

I have attached a screen capture of the message.

I have an update concerning the font issue message that I am receiving when I
am importing xml feeds into FM11. I opened the Read/Write file and received a
message that the fonts need updated. The fonts that were being applied to the
text in the Read/Write files were old fonts that needed to be updated. I
updated these fonts, saved and then exited frameMaker, then reopened it. I then
began reimporting the xml feeds. I am not noticing any font issue messages
anymore, so I appear to have resolved the issue.

I am still having issues with the Imago BQ Bold font not embedding in the PDF
and being substituted with Imago BQ BoldItalic font.

Structured FM11 Not translating horizontal tab character - #09;

2013-10-28 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
In my office, we are upgrading from Structured FrameMaker 8 in Win XP to
Structured FrameMaker 11 in Win 7. Part of the work that I do involves
importing xml feeds into Structured FrameMaker templates using an automated
process. As I am testing the importing into FM 11 I am noticing that the
special character code used for a horizontal tab - #09; - is not translating
into a tab after the xml feed has been imported into the FM 11 template. It
does translate into a horizontal tab when imported into FM 8.

FrameMaker 11 is not substituting a space for the tab when the data is
imported. It was suggested that I check to see that the preserve line breaks
rule is set up. I am using the same Read/Write Rules file and other system
files that I used when importing into FrameMaker 8. I'm assuming that the
preserve line breaks rule is part of the Read/Write file. Am I correct?

Any assistance with resolving this issue will be appreciated.

This is an automated process. When I attempt to do this I am getting an error
message that reads:
Emph element definition not found
and the xml feed is not processing. (See attachment for image of error message)
Prior to attempting to import this xml feed, I needed to replace 2 font
families in the FM 11 template with newer versions of these fonts:
Imago Book

These have been replaced with Imago BQ and with Bembo Std.
I updated the old fonts in the FM 11 templates using Paragraph designer. After
I did this, I am finding that I am getting a FrameMaker 11 console indicating
that the old version of the fonts that I updated is not available and that a
substitute font will be used. (Please refer to the attached image named

If I open the FrameMaker template with the updated fonts, I am getting a
message that reads:

I replaced all of the old fonts in the paragraph designer, so I'm not sure why
I am getting this message.
Is there a step in the process for replacing fonts in Structured FM 11 that I
am missing?
Please note that there are 2 fonts that are missing from the set of fonts that

RE: Structured FrameMaker 11 Error Console

2013-10-14 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
I have attached a screen capture of the top one of the XML files that I import.
When you mention the content model specified at the top of the file are you
referring to the DocType? There is a large set of Doctypes that I need to add
to the FrameMaker 11 structured applications file. I tried adding one of these
and then importing the xml file that corresponds to it. I am still getting the
error messages in the console and if I format, save, and then reopen the
FrameMaker 11 file that I imported, I am losing the formatting, so the problem
still exists.

If you open the XML file in a text editor, what's the content model specified
at the top of the XML file? Alternately, you can open the XML in Fm8 and use
the Set Structured Application File command to see what structapp needs to be
added to the Fm11 structapps file.

That application needs to be set up in Fm11, and you need to ensure that it is
valid. There may be minor tweaks to the structapp needed for use in Fm11.

Hi Brenda,

Either your XML doesn't conform to your internally automated process, or you
don't have a working Structured Application for your XML model.

As Rick said, the line numbers referring to the XML file will give an
indication of what's gone awry. At that point, you need to either modify the
XML to fit the StructApp, or modify the StructApp to fit the XML.

Structured FrameMaker 11 Error Console

Structured FrameMaker 11 Error Console

2013-10-10 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
I am performing testing in a Windows 7 environment with Structured FrameMaker
11.

I am using an internally automated process that imports an xml feed into a
FrameMaker template and produces a formatted FrameMaker document. The
FrameMaker 11 error console window that is displaying contains a long list of
errors. This is my first time working with FrameMaker 11 and this error
console window. I have attached a screen capture of the error console with the
line numbering feature activated in the FrameMaker document.

I'm noticing that the error console window indicates the line number where an
error is occurring. I'm assuming that these line numbers correspond with the
line numbers that can be made visible in the FrameMaker document by choosing
the line numbering feature from the FrameMaker menu bar. Is this correct?

Issues Using Windows 7 and FrameMaker 8 FrameMaker 11

2013-07-04 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
The office where I work uses an automated process to import xml files into
FrameMaker 8 and process them into formatted FrameMaker files. This automated
process has been created internally, utilizing scripts written in C. We have
been using Windows XP and FrameMaker 8 in order to run this process. We want to
upgrade to Windows 7. On a test computer using Windows 7 we attempted to run
this process with FrameMaker 8. FrameMaker was loading the xml file but the xml
file was not processing into a formatted FrameMaker file. We attempted to run
this using FrameMaker 11 and the xml file was not processing.

Does anyone have any idea why we can't run this automated program using Windows
7?

FrameMaker 8 Table subheads

2013-03-21 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
I am working with Structured FrameMaker 8. I need to redesign a table so that
the rows in the table that display subheads are formatted differently from the
table header. The table header has white text on a 100% blue background. The
subheads need to be white text on a 30% blue background. The number of rows
that appear under each subhead vary, and these rows need to have black text on
a white background. How do I create the table subheads? The tables are created
automatically when an xml file is imported into FrameMaker.

I am thinking that I can create the subhead 30% blue bar by creating a graphic
on the reference page, and then applying it to a paragragh tag. The problem
with this is that I can't figure out how to offset the text so that it is
centered vertically in the subhead bar.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Postcripted FrameMaker 8 Colors Converting from Spot Colors to CMYK

2013-01-09 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
I am working with Structured FrameMaker 8 files in which all of the colors are
set as spot colors. Some of the spot colors in a postscripted FrameMaker 8 file
processed as CMYK files when the postscripted version of the file was sent to
the print vendor yesterday. This did not occur with past postscripted files
that have been sent to the print vendor. The postscript files are generated
directly from FrameMaker files. The final FrameMaker files are created by
flowing an xml feed into a Structured FrameMaker template. This process is
performed every 3 months. In the past the print vendor has had no issues with
the colors in the postscripted files. I have compared the FrameMaker color
definitions in the FrameMaker files processed 3 months ago with the color
definitions in the FrameMaker files processed yesterday. I'm not seeing any
differences in the color definitions in FrameMaker.

We recently upgraded our Adobe Acrobat and distiller to version 10.1.3. I was
told that the postscripting process does not utilize Adobe Acrobat and
distiller, so the color issue would not be tied into this upgrade.

I needed to update some text on the FrameMaker template for this quarter, so
the new FrameMaker files were generated from this revised template. I did not
modify color in the template, so I am not certain that the modified template is
the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be creating this color conversion issue?

Structured FrameMaker 8: Table Design Issues

2012-02-22 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
I am working in Structured FrameMaker 8 with FrameMaker templates that embeds
into a table a 2 pt vertical line that separates 2 columns of data when an xml
file is imported into the template. These templates were created by another
person, and I am trying to embed this vertical line in another template and
can't figure out how to do it.

I noticed that the following xml markup - rule=yes - needs to be included in
order for the vertical line to appear in the table. The markup looks like this:
columnhead rule=yes colspan=2

If I remove the rule=yes from the markup, the line does not appear in the
FrameMaker file that is built from the imported xml file.

What do I need to do so that this vertical line appears in the table flowed
into the template that I have created?

Error Due to missing tag

2011-12-15 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
I am encountering these error messages when I flow an xml file into Structured
FrameMaker 8:

Internal Error: 8004, 6345644, 8487696, 0

and

Adobe FrameMaker (Structured): FrameMaker.exe - Application Error:
The instruction at 0x00cc1940 referenced memory at 0x. The memory
could not be read.

I have located the problem in the xml markup. The errors are due to a missing
subhead tag within an element named holdings.
If I place a subhead/ tag in the markup the xml flows without problems. I
have tried to modify the DTD and the EDD holdings declaration so that the
subhead element is optional within holdings. I have tried a number of different
declarations. None of them seem to be working.

The declarations currently are set like this:
The DTD declaration is this:
!ELEMENT holdings (mainhead, (subhead?)*, (table*))*

The EDD declaration is this:
Element (Container): holdings
General rule: (mainhead, (subhead?)*, (table*))*

It is still throwing these errors for the holdings markup that does not include
a subhead tag.

Recently a dll file called Marketing.dll was updated and replaced the
previous Marketing.dll file. When I flow the xml using this revised dll file it
throws the error. When I flow the data using the previous dll file it does not
throw the error.

Can this problem be resolved by modifying the holdings declarations in the DTD
and EDD, or is the problem tied into the revised dll file?

Separating data in a Single FrameMaker File

FrameMaker menu bar issue

On my FrameMaker menu bar, I have noticed that a selection is missing from the

I'm not sure where to look for this code? Can anyone help me with this?

Scaling images in Structured FrameMaker

2011-08-16 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
I need to modify a Structured FrameMaker template that displays the photos and
professional information for a list of managers. The image for the first
manager who appears under the subhead for each department is automatically
scaling up 150% when the xml file is imported into the FrameMaker template. The
remaining manager's images are importing at 100%.

I need to scale this first manager's image down on import to 100% so that this
first manager's photo is the same size as the other managers that appear in
that department.

The template is pulling the manager's photo (a .tif file) from a shared server.
I checked the dimensions for the image on the server, and it is the same size
as the other manager images.

I have checked the xsl file, the EDD, and the FrameMaker Rules file, and can't
locate the code that I need to modify in order to fix this.

Is there a setting in the FrameMaker template that I need to modify? How do I
adjust the scaling for these images so that they import to the correct size?

Java error Message when importing xml to frameMaker 8

2010-09-29 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
I have reconstructed a workstation, and am attempting to flow an xml file into
a FrameMaker 8 template. When I attempt to do this I get the following error
message:

Failed reading value of registry key
Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\Current Version

Error: could not find java.dll

Error: Could not find Java 2 Runtime Environment

The xml file is being imported by selecting it through a menu choice added
internally through the Main Menu bar.

Java 6 Update 3 is the version being used.

I can successfully flow this file through my computer.
Any ideas what might be causing the error message and how it can be fixed?

FrameMaker cannot render a screen view from an EPS graphic unless the EPS file

*does* contain a TIFF preview, that preview image is very low-res and is only

Hi Rick

One small but important detail: if you set the Space Below Pgf to -2pt, you
also have to change the Default Font size of that paragraph to 2 pt. It will
not work if the font size is larger than 2 pt. I also see that the Space Below
Pgf value changes automatically if you change the font size afterwards. So, the
order should be:

1. In the Paragraph Designer, set the Default Font Size to 2 pt.
2. Set the Space Below Pgf to -2 pt.
3. In the Table Designer, set Space Above to -2 pt.

You may also want to create a dedicated paragraph format for anchor
paragraphs, for example a format called z_anchor. I also give this z_anchor
variable (non-fixed) line spacing because I also use it for anchored frames.

Cheers

Yves

Subject: Aligning top rows of 2 column table

I am working with structured FrameMaker templates that were created by
someone else.

When I flow xml files into these templates , there are tables that when
flowed are breaking into 2 columns. The top row of the portion of the table
that is in the second column has spacing in the first row that allows the
top rows of the table in both columns to be aligned. See the attached tif
file for an example of the table.

I am trying to create a table that flows like this for another template. I
can't figure out how to set the table formatting so that the table flows
into 2 columns, and the top rows are aligned?

What do I need to do to accomplish this.

Aligning top rows of 2 column table

Subject: Re: Aligning top rows of 2 column table

You may also want to create a dedicated paragraph format for "anchor
paragraphs", for example a format called "z_anchor". I also give this z_anchor
"variable" (non-fixed) line spacing because I also use it for anchored frames.

Cheers

Text not flowing entire width of text box

2010-05-12 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
I am working on a FM template that has master pages with single column text
boxes that are 45 picas wide.

I am finding that my tagged text is not flowing to the entire length of the
text box. It is flowing in at a maximum line width of 42 picas, then bumping to
the next line. I do not have indents set in this tag. When I attempt to
manually type additional text in the text box, it is bumping to the next line
when it reaches 42 picas in length.

What setting do I need to adjust so that the text will flow to the 45 pica
width of the text box?

One thing to check is the setting of the DisplayUsingPrinterMetrics option in
your maker.ini file. If that option is set to Off, FrameMaker will optimize the
displayed text for readability even if this results in slightly incorrect line
lengths. If the option is set to On, the displayed line lengths will be
correct, but some of the individual glyphs may be slightly distorted to make
the spacing come out right.

And remember that you have two maker.ini files that both come into play. The
defualt settings are in the maker.ini file that is located in the application
installation file (typically C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe\FrameMakerX, where X is the
major version number). A second maker.ini that contains your personalized
preferences, recent file list, etc. is located in
C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\Application Data\Adobe\FrameMaker\X.0
This personal maker.ini is much smaller than the default one, and all the items
in it are either supplementary (i.e. not in the default maker.ini) or are
overrides of the default maker.ini settings.

FrameMaker Table Width Issue Solved

2010-04-23 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
A couple of months ago I sent an email concerning an issue that I was having

importing into Structured FrameMaker an XML file that contains tables. When I
flowed xml into the structured FrameMaker template, the flowed tables were not
sizing correctly and needed to be manually resized. The tables were all
defaulting to a specific width.

As it turns out, the problem was in a dll file that had default settings for
table widths. When these table widths were adjusted to accommodate the new
widths, the tables flowed to the correct widths.

Thanks to those of you who tried to help me trouble-shoot this issue.

Master Page Flow Problems

2010-04-12 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
I am trying to flow 4 xml documents into structured FrameMaker template that is
4 pages. The last page has 3 different master page versions. I have set the
StructMasterPageMaps up to direct the page flow for the final page to the
correct back page master page, depending on the value for the version
attribute. The data is not flowing correctly. The master page that precedes
this back master page is 2 column. If the data for this page only flows into
the first column, and the second column is empty, the back page data flows into
the correct version of the back master page. If the second column has data in
it, the back page flows onto a new page but applies the master page used by the
preceding data. It doesn't apply the correct back master page version.

Does anyone know how I can correct this?

Table Cell Sizes

I am having problems with table cells enlarging table enlarging or contracting

I need for the cells to adhere to the pre-set size set in the table.

Is there a setting in FrameMaker that modifies table behavior, allowing table

Um, table rows resizing to fit their cells' contents is generally not
considered a problem. You do realize that if the row height doesn't
increase to accommodate more text, the text will be cut off, right? It's
not like FM will automagically shrink it to fit, or something.

That said, the Row Format dialog (Table Row Format) lets you specify
minimum and maximum row heights.

Flowing Tables into Structured FrameMaker

2010-02-16 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
I am importing an XML file into Structured FrameMaker that contains a table.
When I created the table, I sized the table to fit in the text box. If I insert
the table, it inserts with the correct size.

When I flow xml into the structured FrameMaker template that contains the
table, the flowed table is not sized correctly and needs to be manually resized.

Do I need to add column width settings to the EDD in order to get the table to
size correctly after the xml file has been flowed into the structured
FrameMaker template?

If so how is this done?

Flowing in Structured FrameMaker

2009-12-08 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
I am revising a template so that it has several different master page
versions of the back page. These different versions correspond to
different financial funds. These individual funds are separated into
different xml files that are separately flowed into the FrameMaker
template using an automated process.

The 3 xml files that I am using use the same master pages for the front
matter and the body of the documents. The only difference is that they
need to use different master pages for the back page.

In structured FrameMaker, how do I control the flow of the data so that
I can import all 3 xml files into the same FrameMaker template and
automate it so that the back page data flows into the correct back page
master page?
