Some instructions about what is needed and how to install is in my
windows-builds page, but this build (crosser freeciv) are *not*
included to downloads there due to QA things. These builds are really
meant for quick check only, not to be distributed.
http://www.cazfi.net/freeciv/builds/win.html
I've not followed my own docomentation about setting PATH in my quick
tests. I've simply put freeciv executables to $crosser_root/bin and
run them from there. As current directory is in PATH in Windows, they
then find everything from the same directory. There has been some
reports that it's actually only way people have managed to get this to
work.

I've worked against crosser development version 0.6.5.103 dllstack,
which you can download from:
http://www.cazfi.net/freeciv/builds/crosser/winstack-0.6.5.103.zip

Freeciv data and executables are in:
http://www.cazfi.net/~cazfi/fcwinexpr/S2_3/r19947+mpicon/

Let me know when you have downloaded everything so I can free some
precious diskspace from cazfi.net.

If there's problems, you can actually have three data points.

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #2808] Commandline options for freeciv-modpack

 Summary: Commandline options for freeciv-modpack
 Project: Freeciv
Submitted by: cazfi

Category: module installer
Priority: 5 - Normal
  Status: Ready For Test
 Privacy: Public

 Planned Release: 2.3.0, 2.4.0

___

Details:

This patch adds parsing of commandline options (--help and --version) to
freeciv-modpack.
Most translatable strings are exact copies from client side, but one is
shortened so that it needs translating. Without shortening it would give
misleading information.

Attached patch adds completely new category, in development, for these

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #18087] Increase max map size to 2, 048, 000 tiles (and max linear size to 32, 768)

2011-07-14 Thread Matthias Pfafferodt

Follow-up Comment #19, bug #18087 (project freeciv):

I'm working my way through a lot of new messages. Furthermore all of my all
patches have to be rebased to the current trunk - a lot happend in the last
half year!

 trunk-S2_3-hugemap-stack-overflow.diff
Thanks for working on this patch - this on looks good! I'm compiling current
trunk at the moment.

 I only noticed one: in sg_load_map_known()), SAVE_MAP_CHAR() -
sg_failure_ret() - sg_check_ret() can return prematurely.
I will try to find a way to handle such cases. Would it help to add a
(possible) goto action to the macro, i.e goto CLEANUP?

 trunk-S2_3-hugemap-colatitude.diff
The changes in apgen.c only prevent division by 0 errors. If I remember
correctly, the change in mapgen_topology.h tries to addaped the map generator
for the bigger size (try a size of 32x500 or 500x32 ...). It is only needed if
the map size is increased further (patch 3).

 trunk-S2_3-hugemap-biggermaps.diff
Yeah, this is for trunk or for people who need such a big map (akfaew?).
Aside: I think the correct way to express the relationship
between MAP_MAX_SIZE and MAX_DBV_LENGTH is to publish the
latter in bitvector.h and have a static (compile-time) assert
in the map code. But we don't seem to have a static assert
mechanism yet. I may look into it.
Is there something like #error? It could stop compilation if the check fails
...

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #17962] Inability to generate/load huge maps on Windows

2011-07-14 Thread Jacob Nevins

Follow-up Comment #20, bug #17962 (project freeciv):

Thanks to some Windows builds provided by cazfi, I'm reasonably convinced
that the patch has indeed fixed the problems described in this bug.

Gory details for the record only:

*Official 2.3.0-beta4 build from Sourceforge
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/freeciv/Freeciv-2.3.0-beta4-win32-gtk2-setup.exe?download*
(control 1; expected result: fail):
* Reproduced comment #0: start standalone server; set size 80; set
minplayers 1; start = server silently dies (last output is 2: Creating a
map of size 348 x 232 = 80736 tiles (8 requested)., even with -d 3)
* Reproduced GM1530's huge-scenario woes (comment #4):
** The one remaining map linked here (earth-500x250-v1.0.sav.gz) silently
kills a standalone server
** A random selection of maps marked as troublesome in the forum topic
http://forum.freeciv.org/viewtopic.php?t=6328 do indeed kill the server
*** europe-350x350-v1.1.sav.gz
*** northamerica-350x350-v1.1.sav.gz
** A selection of maps marked as OK are indeed OK
*** europe-332x264-v1.8.sav.gz
*** europe-350x350-v1.0.sav.gz
*** northamerica-350x350-v1.0.sav.gz

*cazfi's S2_3 r19844 snapshot + winstack-0.6.4* (control 2; expected result:
fail):
* standalone server with /size 80: died more noisily (and Googling suggests
that Exception Code: c0fd is indeed a stack overflow):

freeciv-server.exe has stopped working

I've used your builds to verify the fix. Details in the ticket.

(FYI, I had no unexpected problems with server or GTK2/SDL clients in
either of your r19844 or r19947 builds -- they all worked fine for me as
far as I pushed them. The Gtk client was perhaps somewhat slower than
Christian's build.)

I'd like to get freeciv-modpack icon included to that build so you
could verify it at the same time.

The icon on the executable appears fine; see attached screenshot.

I couldn't test whether it also works as an icon for the running
application; see next...

It would be a shame. Is it possible it's a problem with crosser, and
will work fine in Christian's build? Well, I guess we'll find out...

I also tried the freeciv-modpack.exe from the Sourceforge 2.3.0-beta4
Windows installer; it ran and presented its GUI, but said Cannot
determine control directory. Presumably this is because of GNA#18262,
and would be fixed in the latest version, if it ran.

I note that the beta4 installer doesn't put freeciv-modpack on the Start
menu along with the server and client; I had to hunt around in the
installation directory for it, which defeats the point somewhat. Would
be nice to fix this for RC1. I think this has to be done by Christian,
as I don't think the installer stuff is under revision control
currently.
