You need flash to make it work. 2. you need to hit enter on the Eraser - question mark 3. next hit enter on the fly. 4. The fly turned into a key that opened the door to the Room of Requirements. Through it is a view of my desk from above. There is a wombat test paper on it under three paper weights. a paper weight in the shape of a triangle a paper weight in the shape of a circle a paper weight in the shape of a line You need to hit enter on all three paper weights. yes i've been testing this beauty for a long time now. i really miss playing on this system, but my new laptop should sort things out! no pre-installed firewalls or blockers, none of those extra drivers that may have compatibility issues, so hopefully the net framework should work on my new system. regards, damien - Original Message - From: Michael maslo [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Wednesday, June 13, 2007 9:39 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] The Rail Racer demo is ready to race The game is an awesome game that will keep you highly entertained. For those of you who do not know what a Mud Client is, it is a communications program which allows you to communicate with on-line multi-user games on the internet. In the past such clients as the following were used: 1. GMud. More or less accessible, but not usually right out of the box. Its main weakness was that it had no scripting capabilities, and in my opinion not too much better than a Telnet client. 2. TinTin+ - an Unix text -based client which is an excellent program, but it was only available for those accessing the internet through a Unix shell. 3. ZMud - Another excellent program, but almost totally inaccessible. Mush Client - A reportedly good client supported by Jaws scripts, but it does not work right out of the box. Certainly it is not as powerful as TinTin+ nor ZMud. The VipMud client that I always wanted would do the following: 1. work right out of the box without having to download scripts or make many setup option changes. 2. Work directly with Jaws, Window Eyes, and MS Sapi. 3. Be able to use multiple voices concurrently, and be able to mix MS Sapi speech with a screen reader voice. Also have different voices assigned to different activities such as incoming text, command entry, script editing, system messages, and so on. 4. The gamer should be able to play multiple characters on a single Mud or on multiple Muds at one time, and the characters should be able to work together using triggers, aliases, macros, and other scripting commands. 5. Support for.Wav, .OGG, and .MP3 files. These files should be played as background, or when an event is triggered such as when you kill a monster or you sustain an injury, or to indicate low stats such as energy, mana, hit points, and so on. 6. The scripting commands should be voice oriented. For example, you may want to stop speaking spam, but you may want it still displayed on the screen for future use. Or you don't want something displayed on the screen, but you want it spoken. 7. Lots of accessibility aids. An example of one is let's say a character name Xandiavier asks you a question. It is a painful and time consuming experience to first find his name on the output screen, if your client allows this, and then cut and copy it to your entry field. inStead you could type: Tell X, then press control-space to complete the word with the client doing the work by finding it in your recent output info, and then finishing with how's it going? The End result is Tell Xandiavier How's it going? Other shortcuts are needed as well, such as quickly finding a previously entered command by typing one or more of its leading characters and pressing, say Shift-space. Another helpful tool would allow you to extract hard to remember place names, character names, spells, and weapons from a built-in list of names and phrases which you maintain with just a simple keystroke. 8. Be able to support powerful scripting capabilities to give you complete control of your actions and environment. VipMud does all of the above and much more. It is almost completely written and is going into alpha testing. Beta testing will start in the summer sometime, and it should be coming out early fall, and so stay tuned. Hi Chris, The most often I see that error is when your Microsoft DirectX is to old or the .Net Managed libraries are not installed. In either case here is the solution. Re: [Audyssey] The Rail Racer demo is ready to race
Hi Che, I'm planning on trying your Rail Racer game today but I had an idea that would make the game even better. What if people could combine their winnings and put together a team car? The limitation would be that only one of the team could drive the car in any race. This could be a category of team play so that only cars of teams could participate. And they would have to name the car and get a sponsor. For an extra cost they could get you to record the name of the car and sponsor and it would be part of the game. I can imagine, Here is Phil in the PCS racer sponsored by Budweiser! smiles, Phil ___ Gamers mailing list .. Regarding gear ratios, I reccomend you use the highest gear ratio as this track is pretty loose so you don't have to worry much about downshifting, unlike the bonus track. Also, once you start getting the curves down, I reccomend you drop the wing angle to 2 degrees for top speed. Smerf Racers Hear your terrified little heart pound as you run away from your arch enemy, Gargamel. Hear the screams as Brainy, Joker, and some of the other smerfs, (inferior to your speed and ajility,) get kidnapped by Gargamel--and hear his plans for smerf stew. Maybe, if you can find that smerfing magic flute, you can get SmerfEt to fall in love with you and marry you once this smerfing adventure is all over. You're running out of time--you're almost to Gargamel's house now, and he's got the whole smerf village crammed into pockets and buttonholes, and the stew's a cookin', just waiting for those luscious blue meatballs... But wait--you've got magic to help you on your way, and maybe--just maybe, you can somehow teleport Gargamel and his cursed cat, or stun him. (Harmony Smerf's horn?) Anyway, somehow you manage to free all the smerfs, (and the smerfmare continues,) or you all get cooked and the rest of the world rejoyces that the smerf cartoons are no longer to be run. Hmm... [Audyssey] FW: [GMAGamesTalk] The new GMA Mud client is coming
Original Message: - From: David Greenwood [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Wed, 13 Jun 2007 12:21:06 -0400 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [GMAGamesTalk] The new GMA Mud client is coming Hi all, VipMud is a Mud client that we are currently about to alpha test. [Audyssey] Rale racer impressions
Well. I've now played rale racer for a good few races, fed art my dust at Rale racer pro level, (the bonus track is one nasty piece of work), and so can probably give an honest opinion about the game. Firstly, I must admit racing games aren't my favourite genre, I've been interested in the developement of rale racer because it seemed to involve a lot of new things that hadn't been tried before in audio games, but I wasn't certain whether the game would appeal to me or not, but it certainly does! I love the way everything can be done intuatively just using the sfx without too much calculating numbers. a great job there, especially given the complexity of the game. One thing though, at the start of the game I did find that things took a bit of getting used to. The tutorials are extremely good, but obviously hereing someone else do something and doing it yourself are slightly different things. Also, I noticed that despite me getting used to the original demo track, the bonus track is stil fairly hard, - especially at first. therefore, i wondered if you'd considdered adding a practice option, where people could race the various tracks without interference from Art, neither winning nor losing money. This would let first time players get accustomed to things, and make sure that new tracks didn't always equal losses (it might also be good for trying out the mouse control). I also like the customization aspects, particularly as regards gear ratio changing, - usually as I understand in driving games the differences in top speed, acceleration and handling are controled by variation in car types, but having them set by the player adds a good deal of stratogy to the game. the nitros and gravity puller are also nice additions, - it was using a nitro that let me do for art at Pro level, with longer tracks, I'll also be interested to see how fuel management figures into the equation. Perhaps in a future version you might also considder adding atmospheric sounds for the various tracks to emphasise the theme and location, just to add a bit of realism and variety to the soundscape. You could for example have an alpine track with snow and wind sfx in the background, with the track containing many sharp curves and jumps, - a long desert themed track with some long streights, - or even some tracks from the Uk with appropriate sounds of driving rain (smile!). If this is something that would be a pest to program I appologise, it just struck me as something that might add to the feeling of the game. finally, i have a question. thus far I've been playing the game on keyboard (and fun it is). Re: [Audyssey] The Rail Racer demo is ready to race
I was the same way. I hadn't even planned to try out Rail Racer, but when I heard the demo was out I decided to anyway and, as I said, I have this sneaky little suspicion that, when finances are a little more certain, I'll be getting me a full copy. 'Course I probably should wait till I know whether or not I'll be going to guide dog school this summer. That'll be free but I'd rather wait til I know whether or not i'll have time to really play the game before I buy it. Re: [Audyssey] Rale racer impressions
Hi Dark, Thanks much for that mini review of the demo, I'm really glad you like it. I feel a bit like Sally Field now. Smiley sticker to anyone that gets that joke. Anyhow, regarding the atmospheric effects, that isn't a bad idea, maybe I could add a combo box to the track editor where people could select from different settings for their tracks with appropriate sounds playing depending on what they choose, I'll look into that. You are the first person that has reported opening the bonus track, congratulations, did you have to install extra ports to do it, or just the default single port? Also, I'm curious what kind of course time you are getting, I'll have to race it again myself and see what I'm pulling. As stated before, in the full version if you have web posting turned on, your times will be posted to the web. Regarding the mouse, stick with it man, I know it takes some practice, but it will pay off in the long run. Although some beta testers can turn blistering track times with the keyboard such as Karl, I really think the mouse is a superior input device for the game, especially when you get to the truly difficult tracks. If you think the bonus track is hard, you haven't seen anything yet, the beta testers can attest to the chalenge of some of the higher class tracks. You may want to adjust the sensitivity of your mouse, and be very careful not to pull back on the mouse in the curves, otherwise you will decelerate after leaving the curve. To be safe, you may want to push up slightly as you exit curves. It is importnt to get used to picking up the mouse and moving it so it can be reset without affecting game play. Re: [Audyssey] Rale racer impressions
Hi Che. glad I could say something vaguely useful. I think perhaps I am pushing down slightly on the mouse, which obviously isn't a good thing, but I'll certainly try it again. Because I actually needed to go off and do some work, I only got a few goes at the bonus track so my times there were pretty appauling (I beat Art at the easiest difficulty, but that's not saying too much). On the demo track my best lap thus far has been around 30 seconds, and my best course time around the three minutes 6 seconds mark, but most often i get times of three minutes 8 or 9. When I beat Art at pro level I had two nitro ports, and used both of them, one towards the beginning of the race and one at the end, but I stil only won by just over 1 second, so there's deffinately room for improvement there. As to the atmospheric thing, assuming it wouldn't be trouble to put in it might be a nice extra feature. there are a fair few different atmospheric environments you could have, city, country, sea sure, desert, snow, rain, jungle, industrial area, - and probably a load more assuming the sound files are available of course. I'll certainly be looking forward to all those tracks in the full version, - I can see that Rr is a game that's just going to keep getting harder and I'm going to have to practice. Beware the Grue! Hi Che! The game sounds great! I noticed you're using .wav files for sounds. Have you considered using compressed ogg-vorbis files instead? It will reduce the game size by about a factor 10 without any noticable loss of soundquality. I also noticed you wrote the program in .NET. Re: [Audyssey] Racing games was: The Rail Racer demo is ready to race
Hi Davy, I don't have much time to participate in this list by I do read it once in a while. Playing in the dark is still alive, but I won't go into that now since it might take away attention from Railracer and I think it deserves it. Any new accessible game that comes out is great, especially if it supports multiplayer. I think online multiplayer gaming is the wave of the future in accessible gaming. Anyway, as a developer I can say that the best motivation for writing and improving games is positive feedback (even when pointing out bugs or improvements), so never hesitate to send a developer a simple note saying you're enjoying his or her game! I am considering doing a q and ay on vip Conduit dot com for anyone that has questions about Rail Racer in the next few days, so if you want to participate, head over to www.vipConduit.com and get a free membership and download their voice chat software, which is the best out there in my opinion, and it is custom made for the blind. Yes, being able to turn the brake between mouse controlled and keyboard controlled would be very good as I lost lots of speed too--or maybe the brake could be spinning the scroll wheel on the mouse? I did try the mouse but I found it rather difficult to keep up a constant accelleration, sinse when the mouse got to the back of my desk and I had to pick it up and move it I'd lose a lot of speed, -- any suggestions? all in all it's a great game, and I'll look forward to getting the full version. appologies for the long and rambling mail. In either case here is the solution. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/directx and grab dxwebsetup.exe. That tool will update DirectX to June 2007 and install the managed libs if they are missing. Folks bottom line keep in mind here that Microsoft upgrades DirectX about every three months. If you are not keeping DirectX up to date errors like this are expected to happen.
