[Audyssey] new directx 9
Hi all. Just got the november dx9 build. it seems to update directx d3d and d3d audio supports. The only issue I now have is that with monti beta4 when I start the game its not the program in focus, and I need to alt tab to it. not sure if this issue is for all dx9 supporting games or not. Game is a little slower but not much but its good. I found an easter egg in monty I think. push the jump key and then tap the up arrow twice. you will jump in the air. now hit jump and right arrow twice. you can clear monsters and such, jump over em and quite a ways off. oh and you can kill them as you sail over their heads. Now if this is a bug then oh well play it while it lasts. if not, then Oh boy, I found an easter egg. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Re: [Audyssey] variations on existing games - Re: a question about games
Hi thom. I'm actually collected a postal Lotr chess set at the moment, which also comes with magazines that my dad is slowly reading into my digital recorder. the set is absolutely gorgious,m - I've always wanted a lotr chess set, and even comes with a few spare pieces of statuary such as the cave troll and the balrog. what's really nice is the pawns are all different, there's the four hobbits, Boromir, and a fair few others. For details, go to http://www.lotr-chess.co.uk/ though I have to admit there site is a litle useless, all jpg immages. to relate this to games though, one idea that you might considder could be a general game of life style creation engine. I can thin of a fair few fun games I've played which are varients on the, get to the finish with X amount of cash, theme, occasionally stopping on squares to draw cards which have the consequence of losing or gaining turns or resources. One varient I had a lot of fun with once for example was called The Pyramid game, where each player was a dead phairo trying to get their sarcophagus to the valley of the kings and build a pyramid. It had all the game of life style rules, drawing of either good or bad cards on certain squares, having to expend money (in the form of silver tallants), on other squares, for example having to buy a barge to carry the sarcophagus down the nile. True, it had a couple of unique variations, such as slaves as a 2nd form of currency, and playing of a 31s style card game to get the 5 building blocks for your pyramid, as well as a beatle esque dice game at the end to build it. but I think you could do a lot with a game of life editer, especially if you were able to add your own sounds for the various game events. Just a thought anyway. Beware the grue! Re: [Audyssey] board games
Well thom. I've never seen foot wide draughts pieces. but in skegness, there is an outdoor chess board which is about 10 foot wide, and you can wrent chess pieces to play on it which are about three feet high. fortunately, they're not filled with lead, lol! As my brother used to say, chess requires amazing amounts of strength, to pick up and move those castles! ;D. Beware the Grue! Re: [Audyssey] variations on existing games - Re: a question about games
Hi Charles, I certainly could do it once the basic game engine was in place with the logic etc. As for alternative chess sets I have noticed some really cool ones in stores that have been released which were limited offers such as the special edition Lord of the Rings chess set, the Star Wars Attack of the Clones chess set, and the special edition Star Trek chess set with the three level board. Then, they have wizard chess with Harry Potter and fans which also is a cool set. One of the cool alternative games my wife and i are playing now is the Pirates of the Caribbean version of Life. You are able to draw one of the major characters from the pile such as Jack Sparrow, Lucy Swan, Will Tanner, etc and then go around the board buying ships, finding treasure, earning gold, and if you want can even open fire on your fellow players to rob their ships of lute and become the wealthiest pirate on the seas as you sing, "yo ho yo ho a pirates life is for me." Sorry, I couldn't resist throwing in that popular pirate song. Charles Rivard wrote: > oo! If you can, I'd say to go for it! Re: [Audyssey] a question about games
Hi Phil, Actually, I remember your Monopoly game and despite not having an AI it was a fun game. I enjoyed all the different sounds included in it. When you landed on one of the train stations I remember it made train sounds, the dog piece barked, I think the car beeped a horn, and so on. It was environmentally cool. Now, if we could create a modern windows based Monopoly game with sounds that matched the theme weather it is Disney, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc the game would be really cool. Re: [Audyssey] a question about games
Hi Tom, It was a lot of fun creating a DOS Monopoly game in 1996 with different sounds for each property and for each card picked. At the time Carl was not comfortable in writing an artificial intelligent opponent so we designed the game only to be played by more than one person but not one person against the computer. Of course we had the limitation of having to fit it on a 1.5 MB floppy disk thus the sounds had to be very short and of low quality. We picked sounds that would simulate a trip to Atlantic City New Jersey starting with jet and bus sounds and ending with a person walking on the boardwalk. And there were all the great token sounds that played as you went around the board. Hi Jim, The Tom voice happens to be one of the Scansoft voices that ships with Jaws 8.0. Re: [Audyssey] a question about games
Hi Charles, I bet, and to be honest creating a Monopoly engine for specialised Monopoly games like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, etc complete with proper playing cards, rules, pieces, and sound effects is light years easier than Monty and Raceway. Not to mention It would be pretty cool to draw a card that says Storm Trooper Attack pay for damages on your bases and then to hear a small little action seen with light sabers, storm troopers firing, etc attacking your base. Another card might read advance token to Tie Fighter, and after your piece is moved there to actually hear the Tie Fighter fly passed. It is those kinds of effects that make the Monopoly game not only playable like the original but a bit more interactive with sound as well. The special edditions of risk are even cooler. For example I noticed if your wav files have lots of under scores, dashes, number signs, etc AGM will fail to detect the files. However, if you name a file like MonsterBreath1.wav it will have no issues at all finding the file. To use the AGM sound pack files I have found I needed to rename them to something else in order for AGM to find them. I suspect the reason the AGM sound pack files were named the way they were was for visual and audio clarity rather than 100% compatibility with AGM. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Hi Thomas, Congratulations on another Browns victory for you to continue their perfect season. In my division championship game which was the Dolphins verses the Browns it was a totally defensive game. After the first quarter the game was still scoreless. Finally about half way through the second quarter a short pass turned into a long one for the Browns. They were now in field goal range. They could not punch it in for a touch down and had to settle for a field goal. The score was Browns 3, Dolphins 0 at the end of the first half. In the third quarter the Browns intercepted a pass and were on the Dolphins 16 yard line. Unfortunately they then fumbled the ball and the score remained 3 zip until about half way through the fourth quarter when A Browns screen pass beat the Dolphins blitz and went for an 85 yard advance. The Browns were able to then score the first touch down of the game. With under two minutes remaining in the game the Dolphins were able to score a touch down, but it was too late and the Browns won 10 7. The Browns play the forty niners in the Super Bowl. Re: [Audyssey] A simple question regarding AudioGameMaker
Hi Soren, AGM seams very picky on what kinds of naming convensions you use on your wav file names. Re: [Audyssey] Top Speed Question
Hi Ari, A hairpin turn or bend in the track is a turn with a very sharp inner angle which forces the driver of the car to make a near 180 degree turn to continue on the track. The hairpin turn got it's name because it resembles a laidies hairpin. It is very long, narrow, and the turns force the driver to turn nearly 180 degrees to get onto the other side of the track. I guess that is the best I can describe it. For clarification ask your mother, sister, or another laidy to show you a womans hairpin to feel and you will get an idea of how those tracks look or are shaped anyway. Re: [Audyssey] Sound RTS
Hi Jean-Luc, We did a good bit of testing with beta 7, where we would start building for example a farm with the same amount of peasants, and one person would be done with their building while the other person was still on 3 or 4. It would seem that if updates are locked together, this could not happen. Would there be any other reason for this problem? I wonder if it doesn't have something to do with the way the server is computing everything for all players, as it seemed the worst when there were several games going at once, but this may be a false perception. To me, this is the single biggest fault with an incredible game for the blind, and if it could be fixed, would go a long way towards helping this game become one of the best ever for the accessible community. Any possibility of taking the server computations out of the equation, where each player would simply receive position, building, and inventory counts that could be processed on the users end. Rail Racer uses a similar method, and with updates being sent every .2 seconds from each player, we can run 12 player races with no trouble. If the information being sent could be narrowed to only the changes in game objects, it would seem the bandwidth usage would be fairly small, even with a large battle between a dozen or more forces. Please don't take any of this as a slam on the game, I love RTS and have spent many hours playing it, and when there is not lag between players online, it is about as much fun as I've had playing an accessible game. I know this probably won't be an easy fix, but I promise you once it is working smoothly for online play, you will have a commercial success on your hands amongst blind players. Thanks for the excellent game. Re: [Audyssey] a question about games
Hi Charles, Yep. That is what I do. I have some special edditions of games I brailled up myself using my braille writer and dimo tape, because getting it baught in accessible format is like impossible. You can buy Monopoly in braille but you won't find Indipendant Living Aids carrying the Lord of the Rings special eddition, Star Wars Collecters eddition, etc. You'll be lucky to find good old classic Monopoly in accessible format at most places which is sad enough let alone all the special versions Hazbro puts out. One day I do have plans of converting those board games to computer based games once games like Monty and Raceway are finally out of my fricking hair. yeah, I know Jim's Monopoly offers the Lord of the Rings board which I created for it, but it isn't the same as getting the special rules, game pieces, and matching cards to go with the board. Hi Søren, The revised description from the up-coming patch for Sarah is below and gives a hint on where to find the spider: Acromantula. An eight-eyed, eight-legged, black, hairy, gigantic spider. Re: [Audyssey] The new patch for Sarah
Hi Søren, I put in some statues, like the suits of armor that are just for background and not to be used. I wanted to created a game where not everything is important, just like real life. I have added a special description when examining those things that are not supposed to do anything. Real life has been getting in the way of finishing the patch so I will not try to predict it's release, but I hope it is before Halloween. [Audyssey] my first board game idea
Hi everyone. I thought of a cool board game idea that I can make. I thought of it being warps and traps or something. You would roll the dice and drive along the board a number of spaces. If you landed on certain spaces, you'd fall through a trap door and go back, but other ones would take you forward a good number of them, sort of like snakes and ladders. Does anyone know where I can get some sounds for it? I have a dice sound, but I need a trap door sound, and maybe a worp sound. Thanks. Re: [Audyssey] Monti4 difficulty and keys
Hi Daniel, The difference between Draconis Entertainment's games and my games is that Draconis Entertainment seams to base the product key on the users name. Montezuma's Revenge uses a far more secure and safisticated means of generating the product key. Obviously I will not disclose how it works, but i will say that the key and license file that is created should be unique. I highly doubt user x will be able to say here is my name and key to anyone and the thing will unlock the game. I'm not saying the product key system is invincible, but the hacker/cracker will have to work at figuring out how to crack the game. Since i employ two different security systems there is a double layer of protection on those keys. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Monti4 difficulty and keys
Hi Daniel, Montezuma's Revenge has a safisticated security system. It scans your system for unique identifiers and then generates a license number. You will email me that license number at the time of purchase, and I will enter your license number into my key generator which will build a key for your unique computer profile. What you will do is enter your name and product key into the games registration form, and the game will compare it with your profile, and if it matches it will unlock the demo, and create a license file which you will back up for future installations. blind guy wrote: > hi, tom, excuse me for being a little nosey here, but how do you > register monti? like is it product id based, "enter a name and key" > based, or... Hi Dark, Interesting. We have regional language changes here as well in terminology. For example in Ohio we will ask for a glass of pop. In other places in the US the same thing is called a soda, a coke, a soft drink, and it all depends on where you are from in the US. In fact, in some places people say soda as sodi. Anyway, given the evidents of a drafts board from the 1600's it is possible drafts is an older name for checkers. I'll look up the history and see if I can track down the diference in name change. Anyone want to wager it will be the Browns? Josh wrote: > Hi, > > Also in week9 of the jim's football game the raiders were 5 and 3 and > dolphins 5 and 3. Re: [Audyssey] board games
Hi Charles, From what I can tell the Connect 4 sets you buy no longer have the stylised eagles and stars on them. However, if you want a set to be accessible it is easy enough to take a drill and drill the blasted holes in the tials to tell them apart.
