Re: [Audyssey] Question about Age of Fable

2008-12-16 Thread dark
Orin, the hole point of age of fable is that it's A, free roaming, and B,
always being added to.

Try exploring the docks, exploring the city a few more times, and heading
out of the city to different places and with different amounts of experience
and combat skills, - I haven't even seen the cats in the keyboard quest
yet, though i did get one character to amusingly go to heaven, lol!

Age of fable isn't really a game with any kind of specific path or ending,
just lots of random quests, a constant stream of updates, and infinite
amounts of freedom.

Btw, the amount the game has expanded sinse I first came across it last year
is really! quite frightening.

Hey all,

For those of you who play Age of Fable, does anyone know what to do after
you get to Karacara? Is there a set path that I must take? Will "explore
the city" give me all quests in the city? I got a few of them, I helpped
out that child, got the cats out of the keyboard Lol, and found gods
street, probably like one other thing can't remember it at the top of my
head. But I don't know really what to do after that. I ventured out of
the city already and died instantly in my first battle, so there must be
some other things remaining for me in the city.

Thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] Lone wolf game book help was Re: Jim's Monopoly questio n

2008-12-16 Thread dark

Hi Linsy.

It's actually fairly streight forward.

First compare your combat skill to your enemy's (your enemy's skill will be
in the text). that will tell you what colum of the combat results table to
look at.

So for example if your cs is 10, and your enemy's is 5, you'll be looking in
the 5/6 column, whereas if your enemy's Cs was 12 and yours was 10, you'd be
looking in the -1/-2 column.

Then, roll your ten sided dice, using 10 for 0. this will tell you which
column of the table to look at.

In the column, read which row corresponds to the number you rolled (which
also happens to be the number of rows down the column). This will tell you
how much damage your opponent and you suffer with your opponent's damage
first, so if it says 7/2, your opponent takes 7 points of damage, you take
two.

Stir vigorously, and repeat until one of your combatants is nicely dead!
lol!

Seriously, the reason combat in the lw books is like this is that originally
the books were published in the 80s, and once someone got a number, all they
had to do was turn to the table.

it's quite possible with a screen reader though that has good table
navigation and if your stuck with the html, i have a fully formatted Ms word
table which one of the project.aon chaps on the message board was kind
enough to whip up for me when i first came across lw in late 2005 (just
before I discovered audiogames in fact), and started asking about screen
reader access.

Part of me does wonder now, if Tom, phil, Jim or someone else clever,
with the appropriate amount of time could just whip up an lw combat program
to make all this much quicker, heck, they could even have it roll the
dice for you.

Hth.

Beware the Grue!

Okay Jim, fair enough, it's your game afterall, it was just a thought.

as to the winkit file, one reason i wanted to update the entry pages for all
of your games was precisely to stop people from making that mistake. As I
said, all of them now contain information on the Winkit file, so
theoretically people shouldn't make that mistake as often, - of course
that also depends upon said people actually bothering to read the game
page, which is probably just about as likely as people reading the
pages of your site, lol!

At least though i can relax in the thought that audiogames.net isn't
contributing to the situation.

Re: [Audyssey] Intro

2008-12-16 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Lelia,
Although Shades of Doom and the Sarah game have the mark your position hot
key, Pacman Talks does not.
Of the three games Pacman talks is the easiest to walk through as each level
has the same maze pattern.
The following article written about ten years ago by my business partner
shows one inexpensive way of going through a maze without need of a
brailler.

HINTS AND TIPS ON MAZE SOLVING
Audyssey;
Computer Games Accessible to the Blind
Edited by Michael Feir
Issue 13: July/August, 1998

by Carl Mickla at P C S

There are a couple of ways to approach maze solving. Here is how
I approach the puzzle. First I order a pizza from Domino's,
because they have the best boxes. then I get a sheet of braille
graph paper from the American Printing House for the Blind. I then
place the graph paper on top of the pizza box. I secure the paper
with a map tack on all for sides. I place a box of different types
of map tacks in easy reach. If I know my starting X, Y, position
I count blocks across for X, and then I count down blocks for Y.
If I do not know where the starting position is I then place a tack
in the middle of the one side on the edge. then I work the maze by
keeping the wall always to my right, placing a tack where every
wall is indicated. If the maze breaks off, room, hallway, and so
on I only check it out if it is to my right. I never leave the
maze for another level, when playing multi level games, until I
know every thing in the maze. The other thing I like to do is to
turn the box or map when the maze changes direction. This helps me
to keep the perspective of the map the same way as I am facing,
allowing for me to synchronize myself with the map. Once I have
completed the maze with the wall to my right I then work the maze
by keeping the wall to my left. Then I go back and hit all the
areas that I have passed by. This might seem a little slow, but it
works. Every time I start getting tired, I just open the box and
grab a slice! and keep going.

I once played a Dungeons and Dragons game called Wizardry. There
was an area in the dungeon where light would not work. Using the
method described earlier I was able to navigate and solve the whole
mapping puzzle. I do very strongly suggest using graph paper.
After all the first mazes used on computers were not graphical and
you had to use paper to solve them. Now the game creators do not
want to make there games to tough and draw the mazes out for the
players. I think this is wrong, because many people playing maze
games are not getting the full challenge of solving mazes and the
opportunity to sharpen map puzzle solving skills. If the maze goes
beyond the sheet of graph paper, call Domino's and order another
pie! So do not shy away from tough maze puzzles. Get some braille
graph paper, map tacks, and call Domino's. Remember It is the box
you want, not the snack inside!

You can actually run the games without installing the Winkit file. I used to
do that all the time before I realized that the Winkit file actually
organizes the games into a workable order. Before that I was always having
to go to the c:\program files\kitchensinc\game name folder (I usually
created that last manually), in order to play the game. As I'm sure you can
imagine that got annoying real fast.

Hi all,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I definitely do remember that a person could
get an accessible Cludo, I think it was made by the RNIB. Why then now
can't I find it anywhere, has it actually stopped being made? Especially
at Christmas it would be great to have more board games, if not made, then
developed for the PC. I'd love a proper trivial persuit (by the way,
wasn't a board game of that also made by the rnib, what happened to it?) I
don't know if I'm right here, but it seems as if there's less traditional
board games available then there used to be, and I am looking at all major

Re: [Audyssey] Jim's Monopoly question

2008-12-16 Thread dark

Hi Jim.

It's just a personal thing probably, but I do like reviewing boards etc, and
I wasn't thinking in terms of real time play over Skype or chatrooms, but
play by mail, forum etc.

As to the links on audiogames.net, each entry does have a link directly to
your homepage, I've also included text about and a link to download the
winkit file on all the game pages, so hopefully people shouldn't get too
confused.

The other nice point, is that with the new favourites system, people can add
your games, - or anyone elses to their favourites list, and the list of
who favourited what appears at the bottom of each page as a sort of
popularity wrating system.

That is cool that you are working so hard to get all of the links on the

[Audyssey] Where are the board games?

2008-12-16 Thread ari

Hi all,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I definitely do remember that a person could
get an accessible Cludo, I think it was made by the RNIB. Why then now can't
I find it anywhere, has it actually stopped being made? Especially at
Christmas it would be great to have more board games, if not made, then
developed for the PC. I'd love a proper trivial persuit (by the way, wasn't
a board game of that also made by the rnib, what happened to it?) I don't
know if I'm right here, but it seems as if there's less traditional board
games available then there used to be, and I am looking at all major shops,
not just RNIB and SANCB, but also Independent Living Aids as well.

Hi Bryan.

Funnily enough that was exactly my thought when you pointed me in the
direction of audiogames in late 2005. I was however pleased to find game
genres such as 3D fps which I couldn't play graphically with my level of
sight.

then though, I started my big try through of audio games, and sinse that
year I wasn't doing any work so had lots of money bought various titles to
try.

i remember having a bit of a guilt trip when I bought hunter, hinking
"why am I spending money on this type of game when I've already got it
playable for me in graphical form?"

In the end though I just decided it was fun, and left it at that.

I wonder what I wouldn't thought now with intombed on the horizon.

Well that and card games have never been my thing. I tend to lose
interest rather rapidly. Growing up my folks could rarely if ever get me
to sit down to a game of cards for more than a few minutes. In fact my
preferred genre of games has been pretty much ignored by most devs until
recently. Ever since I discovered audio gaming four years ago I've been
hoping for a true audio role-playing game in the style of Final Fantasy
or even Legend of Zelda. Entombed, the flagship title from Driftwood
Games, is the closest thing I've seen to what I'm looking for. Of course
what with it being in its Alpha stage at the moment it's hardly
surprising the demo is A. incomplete and B. more than a little buggy. But
it's got some serious potential even just from looking at the current
demo.

You really should check them out. They're great. I emailed him using a
comcast address I'd forgotten I had. Lol.

That's probably why I've never really played his games.

Hi all!
Does anyone know if Ian Humphreys is planning to begin offering his
games for download? I had him send me BG yahtzee when I had a
different email provider, and I loved it, but GMail has always been
funny about attachments, and it would really be faster if I could
download them from somewhere. I'd love to check out more of his games.
Thanks!
