Hi lelia,
USA Games is my personal accessible games company. We have one game
completed, and a couple more currently under active development.
At the moment our web site is down do to a problem we encountered when
moving our web site from the old server it was on to a new web server
which has better download speeds, more bandwith, etc. Anyway, the
technical details aren't important. Just know it is down, and we are
are attempting to resolve the issues. For your information our web
address is
http://www.usagames.us
in case you would like to check us out when we get back up and running
again.

2008-12-28 Thread David Standen

Hi Brian,
Yes, things must have changed. Once your user id has been copied to the
clipboard you are now asked if you wish to place an order for the game. You
can also purchase any BSC titles for a friend as a gift if you wish. I
purchased Classic Troopanum for a friend for his birthday last month and
purchased Troopanum 2 for him for Christmas last Sunday. Because I did not
know his user ID, I typed none in the user id edit box as suggested.

After all, I've heard that things that work with XP no longer work with

Re: [Audyssey] Aemon deluxe

2008-12-28 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi,
Downgrading vidio drivers in any case is a very bad idea. I try to stay
current with my HP driver updates to insure I have the most current and
stable drivers for my notebook and I don't relish the idea of
downgrading to an XP driver that wasn't designed for this notebook. So
that definitely isn't a chanse I am willing to take for Eamon.
As far as Vista's problem with 16 byt programs I'm not really that
suprised. Vista has several major changes inside the Windows core that
breaks compatibility with a lot of older technologies. Microsoft is
trying to clean house, dumping a lot of libraries and backward support
that is no longer needed, so that they can hopefully produce a more
stable and more up to date operating system. Problem is that means to
support Vista many software developers need to upgrade their stuff, and
home users need to upgrade most of their stuff to get on the Windows
Vista/Windows 7 platforms.

Smile.

Shadow Dragon wrote:
Dosbox or some other dos emulator is the only way I know of that you can
do this. You can't run eamon in a regular window, its full screen by
default, and vista can't run 16 bit full screen programs, for some
unfathomable reason. There's another way, you can downgrade your video
card drivers to use xp drivers instead, that actually allows the program
to run, but the xp drivers are very unstable on vista, and I still
couldn't get the program to display text, but maybe someone with more
knowledge of such things could play around with it more.

Re: [Audyssey] the gamebooks of Arborell

2008-12-28 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Lora,
Smile. Well, Windows Vista is a completely different case. As I have
mentioned on list several times before Microsoft is doing quite a lot of
house cleaning on Windows Vista, removing older technology support, and
as a result a lot of software you own may not work on Vista. Microsoft
is also introducing a lot of new technologies that is probably the way
of the future for Windows users.
For example, alot of gamers here aren't too happy to buy a Windows Vista
system and discover that several VB 6 libraries to run their favorite
accessible game is missing. They have to understand that fundimentally
to a programmer Visual Basic 6 anything is very very old technology.
Those Visual Basic 6 dll files were released in 1998 for Windows
95/Windows 98 era computers. From a software development point of view
those dll files are 10 years old, and are extremely ancient. Microsoft
has began removing them so that Visual Basic developers will begin
porting their VB 6 apps to VB .NET which is fully supported on Vista. As
a result it is likely going to be a while before a lot of companies,
especially small accessible game developers, get updated to the Vista
platform and standards.

That and software especially rarely if ever comes out on the original
release date, at least when it's just one or two people working on it. I'm
sure it's different for big companies but when you're talking about a
one-man operation like what Thomas has got going you can rarely if ever
expect things to go exactly as planned. If and when I decide to take up
programming, I still haven't decided on account of my abysmal math skills,
I'm going the smart route and not announcing release dates before hand.

[Audyssey] Vip mud?

2008-12-28 Thread lelia
Hi all, I'm learning how to use the vip mud client and I'm trying to add the
legend mud is it still down? and if its not here is what I've done, I went
to the quick manual connect and tried to add the mud and I type the host
name as mud.legend.mud.org and the port as and when I hit connect it
then brings me to the entry and output edit boxes and so if I press enter it
doesn't seem to work that's why I'm wondering if the mud is still down?

thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] the gamebooks of Arborell

2008-12-28 Thread Lora
Thanks for the perspective. I've actually avoided Vista for fear that
everything I use will stop working. I'm gradually learning that this is
unlikely to be true, so when I get my next computer, I'll probably just
accept Vista gracefully.

As for the games, I can see how Microsoft would want developers to port
their games to more current technology. I work for a state agency, and we
use an old version of SOAP, and an old version of SQL, both of which are no
longer supported. That puts us in a very awkward position, and we'll need
to upgrade soon, so that we can gain support for our systems.

Hi Lora,
Smile. Well, Windows Vista is a completely different case. As I have
mentioned on list several times before Microsoft is doing quite a lot of
house cleaning on Windows Vista, removing older technology support, and as a
result a lot of software you own may not work on Vista. Microsoft is also
introducing a lot of new technologies that is probably the way of the future
for Windows users.
For example, alot of gamers here aren't too happy to buy a Windows Vista
system and discover that several VB 6 libraries to run their favorite
accessible game is missing. They have to understand that fundimentally to a
programmer Visual Basic 6 anything is very very old technology.
Those Visual Basic 6 dll files were released in 1998 for Windows 95/Windows
98 era computers. From a software development point of view those dll files
are 10 years old, and are extremely ancient. Microsoft has began removing
them so that Visual Basic developers will begin porting their VB 6 apps to
VB .NET which is fully supported on Vista. As a result it is likely going to
be a while before a lot of companies, especially small accessible game
developers, get updated to the Vista platform and standards.

Lora wrote:
I agree that it's generally a good thing, but you just never know anymore.
After all, I've heard that things that work with XP no longer work
 with Vista.

I'll be glad to see my Pacmate. It feels like it has taken forever,
but they've actually been very quick about returning it, I'm just
impatient.
Hopefully I'll have it before New Year's Eve.

Hi everyone:

If anyone is interested in a real fun mud which really has a lot to offer,
check out 6 dragons. It is a awesome mud. It has crafting to be either a
blacksmith, tanner or a cook. It has quests, player killing if you like and
of course mob killing.

If you create crafts you can get crafting points where the higher you get
those levels the better quality and better items and materials you can use
to make these things with.

Check it out. Connection information is shown below.

Re: [Audyssey] Aemon deluxe

2008-12-28 Thread shaun everiss
well I have started doing this in preparation for this eventuallity.
2 out of the 3 systems we use are now vista ready at least hardware is.
all office stuff below xp has been chucked so thats ok.
Most of the stuff I use, ie avg, and other security programs, is vista
compatible, parts of hal, sam, the dcm drivers are vista compatible.
I have a second recorder that is vista compatible.
I don't use a scanner enough to upgrade it, but once all the printers here die,
I am going to aim for a network printer that has everything on it.
that will be vista compatible.
the main system is going to get a ram upgrade, and maybe some other fixes since
its semi dead right now.
it to should be at least almost vista compatible.
it will only be a 2.8ghz cpu singlecore with an old 128nvidia gforce in it but
it should have at least 1.5 gb if I play my cards right and betwene 1 or 2gb if
I don't.
It should be at least semi compatible with vista.
All this costs a few grand, maybe 2 grand max.
The big issue is all the screenreaders, these do cost the upgrade, when I do
this I plan to upgrade to as high as I can go, since I will pay megabucks to
upgrade hal and jaws, I will go all pro with both, jaws is at pro now, I will
get scripting packages, and extras I suppose.
Everything should be almost ready hardware wise, even the router has been
upgraded to basic wireless.
Eventually I'd like to have a muck around box, where I won't store anything
secure and where there will not be any security.
well almost nothing.
I will probably use that to do audio stuff, or something.
A linux server to handle security for everyone without people wanting to doodle
with it here which is what is happening with security on this network.
Every system bar one has standard windows firewall, avg, spywareblaster spybot
configs with no to low risk use, 1 or 2 viruses a year do creep in and get the
systems but are easilly delt with.
Mail is scanned by the isp.
The main box has all the filesharing on it, and other things, it seems to get
hit loads more and the security is rather high.
And unfortunately not usable by me to fix anything.
I then need another config.
I'd like one single security system I could control from anywhere on the
network.
and as long as everyone was on I chould just do things without mucking round.
Ofcause I have physically no room for that extra box for now.

Hi,
Downgrading vidio drivers in any case is a very bad idea. I try to stay
current with my HP driver updates to insure I have the most current and stable
drivers for my notebook and I don't relish the idea of downgrading to an XP
driver that wasn't designed for this notebook. So that definitely isn't a
chanse I am willing to take for Eamon.
As far as Vista's problem with 16 byt programs I'm not really that suprised.
Vista has several major changes inside the Windows core that breaks
compatibility with a lot of older technologies. Microsoft is trying to clean
house, dumping a lot of libraries and backward support that is no longer
needed, so that they can hopefully produce a more stable and more up to date
operating system. Problem is that means to support Vista many software
developers need to upgrade their stuff, and home users need to upgrade most of
their stuff to get on the Windows Vista/Windows 7 platforms.

Shadow Dragon wrote:
Dosbox or some other dos emulator is the only way I know of that you can do
this. You can't run eamon in a regular window, its full screen by default,
and vista can't run 16 bit full screen programs, for some unfathomable
reason. There's another way, you can downgrade your video card drivers to use
xp drivers instead, that actually allows the program to run, but the xp
drivers are very unstable on vista, and I still couldn't get the program to
display text, but maybe someone with more knowledge of such things could play
around with it more.

  Hi Phil,
Right. Actually, if i just put a dash between the 3 and the 57 it would do
  the same thing as well.

   Hi Thomas,
   Great trailer!
One little thing that can be easily changed.
The SAPI voice says 3 hundred and 57 magnum.
It should be 3 57 magnum, with a space between the 3 and the 57 so the
   voice will say it correctly.
   Thanks,

Hi.
Is it possible to turn that music down or off? I always have to do that because
when I go to play a game I can't hear what i'm supposed to hear over the music,
even if I turn it down. Though I couldn't figure out how to turn judgement
day's music off, but I was able to turn it way way down so at least I can hear
what's going on, and actually the music is pretty cool in that game I gotta say.

  Hi,
Well, being a 2D side-scroller maneuverability in this game is a serious
problem. Ducking jumping, or getting out of the enemies striking range is
about all you can do to avoid getting hit. Though, what you describe would
make the boss fight a lot more interesting.
As far as the music I am licensing it from a music composer who does music
for games, commercials, and even movies. He is a great composer and his
  stuff doesn't come cheap.

I agree that bosses should get tougher as they proceed. But I still
wouldn't mind seeing him armed... if he had, say, a longsword and had a lot
of range, you could make him slow. In that case, if you were to give the
player a shorter sword lying outside the door that made Angela fast and
maneuverable but only able to take little nicks of damage, that could work.
That way it wouldn't be a straightforward hack and slash match, you would
actually having to move right to dodge his sword, or leap under low
strikes. By the way.. the music is awesome. Where did that come from?
