Re: [Audyssey] Does anyone play materia magica?

2009-05-18 Thread Kellie and my lovable Lady J.

Hey Mike,
well what sort of things do you mean to keep it from getting boring? the
problem wit muds is that they are open ended and all usually have some
redundency. In Materia lets see, you level of course. You can do this either
by killing, getting marks, questing etc. once you are leveled, there are
runs. runs are tasks that usually require a form and you go through a bunch
of tasks to take on a very strong and hard mob who gives nice rewards either
in eq or gold or things like that. My husband does form runs all the time
and is great with them. He would help give suggestions on working in forms
better. You can obtaina ship and kill pirates for gold and exp. I haven't
done this yet but my husband has found a way to work with the ascii map.
When you archon you get hunters periodically. you can quest any time. search
for marks. another mud I am trying is asylum. I don't know exactly how to
describe it other then that it appears to be very puzzle oriented. I messed
with it years ago but am trying it more now. the combat is very primative
and many parts are confusing still to me but I like the Idea of trying to
figure out the puzzles or quests as they call them.

Hi.

I'm trying out materia magica with the Vip mud client, though
unfortunately due to a crash when i was first researching this, I've
lost all demo abilities and am playing with the slimmed down version.

I was wondering if people had any tips, sinse i find locating npcs and

I also constantly seem to get slaughtered, despite putting plenty of
efforts into practicing my sword skill and armor spells (I'm of course

[Audyssey] Sryth help

2009-05-18 Thread Ron Schamerhorn
Hi all

After awhile I'm finally getting back into playing the game more now. I'm
presently having troubles with part of the Sarngard Isle segment.
This one might be a little older to some of you but I'm just getting
through the final stages currently.
I've checked through the wicki and it talks about finally finding the
ancient ruins located in the bog. Okay found the ruins, I've went through
killed the four constructs and taken the gloves. How the heck do you get
past the door at the north end of the passage? The one with the large
handprint on it. I've also tried various combinations with the two levers
but still am getting no where with it. The wicki seemed to have no spoilers
about this I could find so thought I would ask here.

Thanks in advance
Ron

Re: [Audyssey] Does anyone play materia magica?

2009-05-18 Thread Shadow Dragon
I used to play asylum quite a bit, I think I still remember the majority of
the zones and such. Its definitely a tough mud, given all the deathtraps and
such lying around. The only plus is that its rather hard to lose to mobs as
long as you get a good set of equipment. I've got a few characters on there,
Talerous, Karanthus, Korgoth and Gordan, feel free to look me up some time
if I'm on if you need help collecting equipment or being shown around some
good eq zones and such. I remember how tough it can be to get all your stuff
back after hitting a deathtrap, so I'm always willing to help out.

As for materia magica, a lot of that stuff actually sounds rather
interesting. I've always liked the idea of ship combat, will have to look
into that. I restarted my character the other day to try to get all the
quests in the newbie zone done since it transports you out at level 10, I'm
not Gordon the minotaur barbarian. Decided to go my usual warrior route
since ranger was kinda cool but was less than ideal as a fighter mage
combination it seemed.

Hey Mike,
well what sort of things do you mean to keep it from getting boring? the
problem wit muds is that they are open ended and all usually have some
redundency. In Materia lets see, you level of course. You can do this
either by killing, getting marks, questing etc. once you are leveled,
there are runs. runs are tasks that usually require a form and you go
through a bunch of tasks to take on a very strong and hard mob who gives
nice rewards either in eq or gold or things like that. My husband does
form runs all the time and is great with them. He would help give
suggestions on working in forms better. You can obtaina ship and kill
pirates for gold and exp. I haven't done this yet but my husband has found
a way to work with the ascii map. When you archon you get hunters
periodically. you can quest any time. search for marks. another mud I am
trying is asylum. I don't know exactly how to describe it other then that
it appears to be very puzzle oriented. I messed with it years ago but am
trying it more now. the combat is very primative and many parts are
confusing still to me but I like the Idea of trying to figure out the
puzzles or quests as they call them.

I've just started playing westfront PC the only thing that I don't like
about it is that every time I enter in a new command and jaws reads its
output, it reads information at the top of the window like my character's
level, hp etc Is there a jaws scrypt to stop jaws from reading the top
part of the window when there is new output?

I used to play asylum quite a bit, I think I still remember the majority of
the zones and such. Its definitely a tough mud, given all the deathtraps
and such lying around. The only plus is that its rather hard to lose to
mobs as long as you get a good set of equipment. I've got a few characters
on there, Talerous, Karanthus, Korgoth and Gordan, feel free to look me up
some time if I'm on if you need help collecting equipment or being shown
around some good eq zones and such. I remember how tough it can be to get
all your stuff back after hitting a deathtrap, so I'm always willing to
help out.

As for materia magica, a lot of that stuff actually sounds rather
interesting. I've always liked the idea of ship combat, will have to look
into that. I restarted my character the other day to try to get all the
quests in the newbie zone done since it transports you out at level 10,
I'm not Gordon the minotaur barbarian. Decided to go my usual warrior
route since ranger was kinda cool but was less than ideal as a fighter

Hey Mike,
well what sort of things do you mean to keep it from getting boring? the
problem wit muds is that they are open ended and all usually have some
I haven't done this yet but my husband has
found a way to work with the ascii map.

[Audyssey] exploration trouble mm

2009-05-18 Thread dark
Hi.

I must admit, the exploration of materia magica is starting to mildly irritate
me.

Asking on the clan channel, I was told to go around the lake looking for pixi
dust.

Unfortunately, sinse the room descriptions don't say where the lake is, this
meant walking around, trying to move in one direction and being told I
couldn't, which was the only way I could find the lake.

Eventually I found said pixi dust, and entered the lake, but despite having the
magic inhailer allowing me to breeth underwater, couldn't enter it, and was
told to search for a specific location.

I found some deep water, so searched there, but couldn't find what I was
looking for, and my levitation quickly ran out leaving me stranded.

I also cannot find this blasted dragon anywhere!

I'm now at a stage where I'm afraid to fight anything else sinse I'm already

[Audyssey] A new Three-D Belocity evaluation has been released

2009-05-18 Thread Munawar Bijani

Hello All,
Finally, the much awaited TDV evaluation is out!

Almost a year after the first release of Three-D Velocity, we bring to you
an all new version. Three-D Velocity is a real-time fighterjet
simulation--the
first of its kind for blind or visually impaired people! If you have always
wanted to fly an aircraft but were prevented because of your blindness,
this game is for you! With
top speeds clocked at around mach two, you are placed right in the middle of
a fast action aerial dogfight with other aircraft. If you've always wanted
to enjoy the thrill of going head to head with your enemy when you're more
than

ten-thousand feet above sealevel, you will get that with Three-D Velocity.

The full release will most likely be release early in 2010; however, this is
a tentative date only.

The demonstration allows you to play fifteen minutes of racing or death
match simulation. All other functionality has been disabled.

Changes in the May 2009 Release
A little over a year after the first public evaluation release of Three-D
Velocity, we bring to you the second release. We have added several new
features and
functionality to this version, and it is a more accurate image of what the
final version

will contain.
1. We have extended the demo time to fifteen minutes of game play per mode.
2. The opponent craft can now fire at you. Although this functionality was
present in the first release, we disabled it because some things needed
fine-tuning.

3. Your afterburners function more like an actual aircraft.
4. We have greatly improved the resource management system in the game.
5. This release contains support for flight controllers.
6. Thanks to many suggestions by players after the first release, we have
rewritten the Status Mode; now, pressing TAB will place you in status
mode. From here, you can press one of several keys to get information--in
other words, the status

menu is gone.
7. We have included a full-fledged HTML documentation.
8. TDV has been upgraded to .NET Framework 3.5, and uses SlimDX instead of
Managed DirectX.
9. The loading time at the beginning of the first release has been
eliminated.

You can get the new release by visiting the BPC website:
http://www.bpcprograms.com/programs/programs.php. Good luck with your new
aircraft!

2009-05-18 Thread Shadow Dragon
Yeah, the wilderness seems to be markedly similar to medievia. I've been
looking for the crab as well, though I have my doubts that any one newbie
can beat it, since people seem to fight it in groups. I'm uncertain though.
Unless there's a way to change the wilderness from ascii to text I'd say
we're pretty well screwed finding the crab without exact directions or an
impossible amount of luck.

Hi.

I must admit, the exploration of materia magica is starting to mildly
irritate me.

Asking on the clan channel, I was told to go around the lake looking for
pixi dust.

Unfortunately, sinse the room descriptions don't say where the lake is,
this meant walking around, trying to move in one direction and being told
I couldn't, which was the only way I could find the lake.

Eventually I found said pixi dust, and entered the lake, but despite
having the magic inhailer allowing me to breeth underwater, couldn't enter
it, and was told to search for a specific location.

I found some deep water, so searched there, but couldn't find what I
was looking for, and my levitation quickly ran out leaving me stranded.

I also cannot find this blasted dragon anywhere!

I'm now at a stage where I'm afraid to fight anything else sinse I'm
already level 9, and would like to complete the lasler quests before they
kick me out of the village, - but I find the navigation a right
pest, partly due to the fact that roads, lakes and other such
important features are only shown on the graphical maps (walking the

I can create a new char to help you with the forest, it can be tricky if you
don't know where you are going. there are other mark quest things you can
get before leaving lasler. the lake one is a new one and a tough one. I
haven't gotten that mark since it didn't exist when aralyn went through. but
send me a tell when you are on and I will create a char to help you out.

Thanks, I'll give you a yell.

I'm level 8 at the second, so stil in Lasler, but I'd like to complete
some quests before I leave rather than just slaughter my way to lvl 10.

Right now, I'm trying to find some pixi dust to fight the creature under
the lake for the grieving woman, kill that blasted dryad in the caverns
for the second leaf (I did at least find the damnable thing, but it killed
me), and find the Dragon in the woods for the third leaf, -- which is
the thing I'm having most trouble with thus far as I can't find any sort
of pathway in the woods I haven't explored yet, and all the people i've
asked just say it's on the western edge of the forest and give me a link
to graphical maps, so some assistance there would be appreciated
 indeed.

The combat thing should go better now I've got myself a thunder cutless
from one of the thunder demons, or so I hope anyway.

As I said, I'm timrel on there.

I play on materia magica and have for about 2 years now. I enjoy the

making friends helps too. smiles As for getting killed a lot. heh u have

 Hi.

I'm trying out materia magica with the Vip mud client, though
unfortunately due to a crash when i was first researching this, I've
lost all demo abilities and am playing with the slimmed down version.

I was wondering if people had any tips, sinse i find locating npcs and
places a right pain, though there are maps, they're graphical, and
I also constantly seem to get slaughtered, despite putting plenty of
efforts into practicing my sword skill and armor spells (I'm of course a
 paladin).

I'm Timrel on there if anyone is around.

 Thanks in advance.

Re: [Audyssey] exploration trouble mm

2009-05-18 Thread Shadow Dragon
Oh sorry, meant to put that in my last message. To get to the dragon, you
have to get through part of the enchanted forest. You have to have two of
the three leaves on you already or the dryad won't let you through. The
forest is a tiny bit mazelike, but nothing too bad. Just walk through the
burnt section of forest till you find a west exit that leads to a mountain
pass, climb the mountain, and there will be the dragon. A word of warning
though, he's all but impossible to kill, since he can one shot you with a
single attack. Luckily he misses a lot, but it pretty much means get in,
grab what you can and run if he's awake, and sneak past if he's sleeping.

As for the lake, yeah, I found at least one of the lakes, though its called
lake often, and according to the gypsy I think the one we're looking for is
lkae grand. Haven't found that one yet. Hopefully I can find the crab before
I hit level 10 again, wouldn't want to restart a third time, especially
since I found a quest this time I didn't even really have a chance to do or
learn about last time.

Hi,
The games written under .NET 3.5 combined with XNA, or .NET 3.5 and DirectX
should work under Windows 7 with no problems. The only games that may have
problems are the older games like Tank Commander which uses DirectX 8, since
that is a legacy library and will have to probably be installed manually
onto Windows 7. think Super Liam will have the same issue. So will
Tournament and Treasure Hunt. - you get the picture. :).

Well, I found the burnt forest, though not the dragon, then was

kicked out of Lasler.

i'm not too happy about this actually, as I'd much rather have completed
those quests first.

I'm tempted to restart, but it seems like too much hard work, pluss,
i'm not sure if those quests are actually completable by a character who's
not higher level (the dryad in the caverns certainly killed me when i was
level 7).

To be perfectly honest, I'm not impressed at their starting setup, nor their
wilderness business thus far.

Re: [Audyssey] Windows 7

2009-05-18 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Chris,
Yes, but in a lot of the cases you manually have to install some missing
Visual Basic 6 and DirectX components in order to get them to work.
Since all of the games by Jim Kitchen, GMA Games, PCS Games, BSC Games,
etc are based on Visual Basic 6 legacy libraries these need to be
installed manually. One way to do this easily is by installing jim
Kitchens Winkit setup from his web site. That will install any and all
missing Visual Basic dependancies that no longer ship with Windows 7.
As for newer games written in Java or in .NET those work really well.
Depending on if the .NET based game uses DirectX 9 or XNA you will need
to install Managed DirectX or the XNA Framework, but that is no biggy.
Java games, such as those made by 7-128, comes with everything you need
in the 7-128 Gamebook.

I'm guessing USA games in particular (winks) are meant for windows Seven.

[Audyssey] Jim Kitchen's Baseball Pitches

2009-05-18 Thread Ryan Strunk
Hey everyone,

I recently picked up Jim Kitchen's Baseball again, and I've been
experimenting quite a bit with the batting practice. I've had trouble for
quite some time determining what I should and should not swing at, and I
found that the last section or two of the pitch sound tells you if the pitch
is going to be high or low. On the curve ball, for example, an E flat pitch
tells you that the pitch will be low; a roughly C natural tells you it will
be high. Anything between that is a fair ball.

I have two issues with this, however.

First of all, the time you're given to determine the pitch of the ball is
pretty negligible-in the tenths of seconds range. You have just a split
second between hearing the pitch of the throw and the prime swing time to
decide whether you should take a shot at the ball.

Second, and more important: many people don't have perfect pitch, so the
ability to determine the difference between a B flat (strike call) and a C
natural (ball) would literally be impossible for them.

A couple of questions, then:

Do any of you who play Jim Kitchen's Baseball have a different method to
determine what is a strike and what is a ball? Is there something in the
pitch sound that I'm missing?

Do any of you even worry about the accuracy of the pitch or do you just
swing at everything that's thrown at you?

I have some definite opinions on this, but I want to find out first if I'm
missing a key piece of the puzzle.

Thanks for any light you can shed on the subject.

Ryan

Hi Ryan,
I personally just swing, and if the timing is right you will at least foul
the pitch off.

have you tried using the survey command to help get an idea of where things
are? with most things, you can get an idea of where they are located. there
are some later in the game which ou have to use sextent points but most are
surveyable. In the beginning it can be daunting. It may take patients. I
had ppl help me a lot. I explained that I was blind and coulnd't use the
graphical maps and that helped. I actually can use the ascii maps a bit. I
have figured out what symbol is me and what some of the other symbols mean.
