Hi Yohandy, If you could give me some ideas for how you think such a scheme could be done for Q9 specifically, I'd be more than happy to hear it. Hi Yohandy, I believe that this is a problem that exists in almost every audio game available today including Shades of Doom, Super Liam, Q9, Mysteries of the Ancients I believe though am not 100 % sure on this, and pretty much any other action title. It is, however, an interesting topic and I'd be open for suggestions on how to address this. There are a few major issues that I can see: 1. Anticipating attacks. In a sighted game you are obviously able to see a little beforehand if an enemy is about to attack you and so you are able to dodge it. However it is not so easy to illustrate this in audio for two reasons. First, you'd have to have a very clear sound that could be heard over all the other noises in the game, and this might detract a little from the smoothness of the experience. Second, you'd have to slow attacks down enough as to give the player a fair chance to block them and this would require at least 100 milliseconds at a bare minimum which would slow game play down significantly. 2. Type of dodging. As I see it, there are two ways of doing this. Either you have it so that a blocking action is automatically performed if you attack with your current weapon in whatever direction the enemy is coming from, there by dodging their offense. This could be problematic though if the user is swinging a fist, for instance, as that wouldn't be able to dodge a bite from a wolf or bear very well. Of course one could argue that this is part of the challenge of the game (e.g. picking the right weapon to dodge with), but I am not sure. The other alternative is to have a separate key combination for blocking, but then the question is - is it realistic to assume that the user will be able to jump that fast over the keyboard as to be able to quickly dodge and attack at the sort of speed that an advanced difficulty level would require for instance? These are just a few spontaneous thoughts that popped into my head. What are your opinions? [Audyssey] Here are the instructions for connecting to dragon Realms with vipmud or similar clients.
Hi there. I am resending this message from earlier today, since I don't think it went through because I forgot to trim the message. grin Here you go. Hi there. In fact, it indeed works. I just did it about three minutes ago, and I will log on again very soon. Here is what I did. I logged onto dragonrealms.net and signed up for an account. After getting my account, and logging back into the site, including hitting that go play button. I was brought into the initial screen for my account wich has a group of radio buttons , which allow you to start a new character or choose your character, , and then it presents a group of radio buttons that gives you the choice for picking the wizard front end and a few other ones. I choose the wizard front end radio button, and hit enter on the go play! button. Now, since I have active X disabled for this site in IE and firefox, rather than launching the wizard client, a page comes up and says Preparing to launch DragonRealms Trial for the Wizard FE. If your game does not start automatically, click here. I right click on the link that says click here, and a choose save link as in FireFox or save target as if you are using IE. My character's name is galphner, so the filename is galphner.sal Once the file is saved, you will want to open the .sal file in notepad. Here is part of the contents of the one I just saved UPPORT=5535 GAME=WIZ GAMECODE=DR FULLGAMENAME=Wizard_Front_End GAMEFILE=WIZARD.EXE GAMEHOST=prime.dr.game.play.net GAMEPORT=4901 KEY=ba247ea0ffaf8c1529ae40e9693da03b You will want to make special note of the gamehost gameport and key entries. You will want to copy your key to the clipboard. In other words, copy everything to the right of the equals sign in the line that begins with key= If memory serves, the key will expire within fifteen minutes of generation, so you will want to be quick when you save the file and then run vipmud or your client of choice. So you would fill out your game host as prime.dr.game.play.net and your port as 4901 When you connect to the gameHost, it will act like you are connected to a blank connection. THis is where you paste your key that you copied to the clipboard int your mud client and press enter You then want to type, all in caps, the words FE/JAVA and press enter. You should be in and playing at that point. I just logged in, and am now playing dragonrealms with vipmud. Hi list. I was wondering, does anyone have any experience of using a program called art money for cheating in games? for example you could use it to give you unlimited health. basically it allows you to search the programs memory for particular values you are interested in and then change them accordingly in memory. when I have completed a game, I use a program called game cheater which does the same thing as art money, as it can be fun some times. however game cheater is quite old now and compared to the features art money offers I believe is quite limited, also it doesn't appear to have been undergoing any development for several years. I installed art money, and had a bit of a look at it with jaws and window eyes but it doesn't seem very accessible at all. I am sure some time back I saw a post on the audiogames.net forum from someone who used art money, but I was just wondering if anyone on list had managed to have more luck with art money than me or are we stuck with out dated game cheater, I will probably post this to the audiogames.net forum as well. __ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virus signature database 4765 (20100112) __ The message was checked by ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Well, I was just about to send a message with instructions on how to use simutronics games with vipmud, since I posted about this a few months ago. Unfortunately, I seem to no longer have a play.net account, which is where dragonrealms and gemstone IV are located! grin But anyway, here is a copy of a message I sent to the list regarding logging into gemstone IV with vipmud. I know the question is regarding dragonrealms, but I am sure that other than the difference in host names, the instructions would be the same. The below message talks about logging into the website as if you were going to login with the Wizard client. What you will want to do though is download the .sal file that comes up when you click on the go play link. The only way I was able to download this .sal file without Internet explorer trying to launch the wizard front end, was to use fire fox. That is why in the below message, I refer to firefox. You could probably stop the wizard frontend from launching if you disable active X for the dragonrealms.net site. Use the below at your own risk. Beings that it is the Christmas Holiday, I will be away from my computer for most of the next few days. I would suggest that you do a search in the play.net forums regarding logging in with a telnet client, that was where I originally got the instructions. Basicly, what you will need to do is get the userKey from the .sal file of your character. This is how simutronics keeps people from logging in for free. When you use vipmud to connect to whatever the host and port are, you will not see anything when you connect. This is normal. You will need to paste in the user key into vipmud's window and press enter. Again, you will see or hear nothing. You then want to type FE/JAVA all in caps as shown and press enter. You should then be good to go. Again, this is for gemstone IV but it will work with whatever dragonrealms uses as their host. Rest assured, Simutronics muds including dragon realms can be played with vipmud, at least, they could be played a few months ago. grin Jeremy Begin message. Ok, I managed to just get into gemstone iv with VipMud. What I had to do was use firefox to log into my account. When I clicked the go play button, a page came up saying that if my browser didn't launch using active x to click here. When I did, firefox brought a file save dialog with my character's .sal file, ie, grogrond.sal. I then saved it to disc, and opened it in notepad, and copied the key to the clipboard, and used the host of prime.gs4.game.play.net and the port of 4900 entered into the host and port sections in vipMud. Then, I pasted the key from the clipboard and hit enter. I then typed FE/JAVA and hit enter. And I am now in! - Original Message - From: William L. Re: [Audyssey] The future of Blastbay Studios
Hi Bryan, Definitely. A full blown RPG like Xeno Gears or Final Fantasy would take years to complete. Mysteries of the Ancients is a much simpler game in design and it took me two years to get the basic engine written and stable enough for play. True, I had some recent setbacks such as the bugs with Managed DirectX forcing me to basically adopt a new engine/design, but the basic point is with only one or two man operations a game of any serious complexity takes lots of time and patients. I've been thinking of doing some sort of RPG game, but the time involved with such a project is staggering. Even a straight text based game like Sryth is rather complex and time consuming. Something more like Final Fantasy is unthinkable for a single person to do unless he/she plans to put five years or more into that project. Then, when it comes out what should the developer charge for that work. Certainly not $20 for a game like that. Try at leas $50 or $60 considering the time and effort involved. Then, of course people will scream and complain about the price. Re: [Audyssey] The future of Blastbay Studios
Very true. Presuming my writer's block goes away and I eventually get the game I've begun working on done, I can't see myself charging more than $40 or $45 at the very most. Even if it takes me a decade to do, there comes a point when charging more severely limits the potential customer pool and drastically increases the likelyhood of piracy. I'd far rather have less money from more honest customers. It'll be very interesting to see how Entoomed does when it's released. Re: [Audyssey] Here are the instructions for connecting to dragon Realms with vipmud or similar clients.
Hey, cool thanks, yeah, I just pulled up Mozilla firefox on my other machine here and clicked on the go play button and it brought up the save dialog box. I have the file saved now actually. I'll probably have to go and get it again though cause I took the time out to check my email and reply to some message including this one, thanks so much!!! -Original Message- From: gamers-boun...@audyssey.org [mailto:gamers-boun...@audyssey.org] On Behalf Of Jeremy Hartley Sent: Wednesday, January 13, 2010 2:54 AM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: [Audyssey] Here are the instructions for connecting to dragon Realms with vipmud or similar clients. Re: [Audyssey] using a program called art money for game cheating.
Sorry to say but no matter what you guys do people will always find a way to cheat, it can't be helped. But I don't think we should get on peoples cases who want to cheat, maybe they do it out of enjoyment of being immortal for a while. In my case I cheat when I have beat the game to see what else I can do, or find or whatever, sometimes a all items coe will bring up an item in your inventory you didn't even know existed and that would give you what you needed to go online look it up, or try to find it your self in the game. The only way you would be able to stop it is if you all started making mmo rpgs where you store all your characters info on a server that can't be hacked in to why do you think people can't cheat in ff or WoW, and even then I'm sure there are people that have found a way to cheat in those games as well. -Original Message- From: gamers-boun...@audyssey.org [mailto:gamers-boun...@audyssey.org] On Behalf Of Liam Erven Sent: Wednesday, January 13, 2010 1:04 PM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: Re: [Audyssey] using a program called art money for game cheating. Hello there, In prinsiple I agree with you that nothing is unhackable, but in this case there is actually a fairly bulletproof method of preventing values from being changed when they are not meant to be. Game cheater, for instance, is out of action in 10 seconds and the same goes for any other memory modifying application. In order to get around this you'd have to do some serious disassembling of the program and the moment that is done, the license agreement is void and the user will have forfitted all their rights. If the developer deliberatly adds cheat codes to a game that is one thing, but modifying the memory of the program to get advantages is just plain wrong in my mind. Re: [Audyssey] using a program called art money for game cheating.
Hi Jim, Yeah, I don't understand the mindset of these cheaters either. I never add cheats to my games either, because I want the game to be challenging, replayable, and fun. When I put in a cheat in a game such as Shades of Doom I don't get any particular excitement or fun out of having endless ammo, being able to walk through walls, run faster, and all the other cheats available for the game. I guess I am not a cheater, because I found the game slightly boring with the cheats active. [Audyssey] Can anyone help me out?
Hi to all, from Ron Kolesar. I have the Philips retractable 2909 game pad and I have the following questions about it. I know where the following buttons are at. 1 through 8. Can anyone tell me where and how to use buttons 9, 10, 11, 12 and the speed buttons are at. Also, one more thing. Say from twelve o'clock, three o'clock, six o'clock and nine o'clock, what and how do you use the four buttons around the two sticks? Also, what are the four buttons to the extreme left side in a diamond pattern as well. I extremely thank those fellow blind gamers who can help me with my questions. About the price...I'd pay it. It'd be great to have a full-blown sighted RPG in our market-I'm sure others would agree up th that point.
Nobody's arguing that point. But given that most of our developers are one to two-man operations the game would quite literally take years to develop. And some people have already whined enough about the delays in MOTA, and to heck with the fact that Thomas could quite easily have refused to take the project on to begin with. In fact I think it fairly safe to say that had he known what trouble he'd be bringing on himself I don't think he would have. It'd be great to have a full-blown sighted RPG in our market-I'm sure others would agree up th that point. Re: [Audyssey] using a program called art money for game cheating.
If I were a game developer, I would not advertise the fact that I would be including a cheat preventative in my games. I'd go ahead and let them have at it, hoping that they spent money on the cheat program only to find that it would not work. --- In God we trust! - Original Message - From: Philip Bennefall phi...@blastbay.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Wednesday, January 13, 2010 9:44 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] using a program called art money for game cheating. Hi Liam, Yeah, and what fun would it be to use total cheats to play a game? I mean I had to look up some cheats to finish some text adventure games, but using a program to change points etc in a game while you're playing it? Heck I have never even built any cheats into any of my games. I just wouldn't have any fun if I could just cheat to win or finish the game.
