Hi Hayden,
The reason that Munawar made it $50 was because he worked a lot. I spoke to
him yesturday, he said to me, they did many retakes of the scenes. They even
stayed up until late! So that's why its about $50.

Hi,
To tell you the truth, I've beaten it once, and while I'm trying to get
through it again, I just don't care as much for it anymore. Something is
gone once you've completed the game the first time through, and while it has
some excellent sounds and a very well-put together storyline, it really
isn't worth $50.

excuse me, sir, but I hope he did not tell you that.
because if he did, then here are a couple of reflection points:
1. if you will work on something decent, you will stay up late on it at
some points, anyway, despite whatever you do to avoid it.
2. If you want players to buy your games, be it for $50 or for $29,
(q9)you will have to record scenes several times for them to work.
It does not mean you did something extraordinary, it just means you are
human and could not do things well in the first time you did them.
Am I, on this e-mail, saying Munawar did not wor for his game?
no, i am absolutely not doing that.
As the CEO of the only bllind gaming entertainment entity in the
country, I know how hard developers work, because, either , we are
translating their games with them as they develop (several developers in
this list may confirm that, if they wish). or we translate them after
the release, with high quality voices and well editted sounds when
necessary and authorised.
All i am trying to say is you may not justify a products price by your
work, because everyone that does something decent works hard. You must
justify what you charge based on playability and quality.

That's not entirely true. You can, in fact, justify a product's price by
your work, epecially if you had to put forth more of your own money to make

quality is a concequence of work.
should you work on a product forgetting of playability in the future?
no, you should not.
why would you think that games like Mota, from USA games will never run
out of public? because they are random. the itens you gain are random.
the number of possible weapon choices is huge.
When you are dealing with shareware solutions, you must not only own a
creative mind, which munawar certainly does, and have the talent to
code, which he definitely does as well.
you must know how to deal with your market, and attract your public.
if tdv had more playability, he could easily have charged $35 for it and
yet it would have compensated the work from a market sale point of view,
simply because all those people that are complaining about playability
would have no reason to complain, as extra playability is never a bad
thing.

Re: [Audyssey] Last Chance to Save on Three-D Velocity!

2010-12-30 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,

Agreed. For a game to go on sale for $50 it would have to be pretty
good. Not only quality but have decent replay value as well. Of
course, labor is a factor too, but if you make a mistake during
development weather it is having to redo dialog, rerecord a sscene,
fix a bug, etc that cost should not be passed off to the customer
since it was the developer's own mistake.

For example, most people know I've been working on Mysteries of the
Ancients for roughly two years. First, we discovered Managed DirectX 9
was causing the game to crash so we rewrote the engine in C++ using
DirectX 8,and later we converted DirectX to SFML 1.6. Soon after beta
14 was released we discovered a bunch of new bugs in the engine caused
by SFML. So we are rewriting a big part of the engine once again. If I
were to put a price tag on the labor involved I could easily ask for
$50 for the game, but I won't do that. Why?

Well, in large part many of the problems were my fault. The game was
pretty stable using DirectX 8, but chose to give SFML 1.6 a try and
that ended up being a major mistake on my part. I shouldn't expect
customers to pay extra for the game since I have to rewrite a lot of
stuff to fix the problems caused by SFML. That's unfair to the
customer since it was my mistake and not their mistake.

So if TDV is marked up because of someone having to stay up late or

Hi,

So if TDV is marked up because of someone having to stay up late or
retake scenes that's just wrong in my book. I often stay up late

quality is a concequence of work.
should you work on a product forgetting of playability in the future?
no, you should not.
why would you think that games like Mota, from USA games will never run
out of public? because they are random. the itens you gain are random.
the number of possible weapon choices is huge.
When you are dealing with shareware solutions, you must not only own a
creative mind, which munawar certainly does, and have the talent to
code, which he definitely does as well.
you must know how to deal with your market, and attract your public.
if tdv had more playability, he could easily have charged $35 for it and
yet it would have compensated the work from a market sale point of view,
simply because all those people that are complaining about playability
would have no reason to complain, as extra playability is never a bad
thing.

That's not entirely true. You can, in fact, justify a product's price by
your work, epecially if you had to put forth more of your own money to make
the product happen. I got TDV for the discounted price but I would happily
have paid the full price even if for no other reason than to support Munawar
in any future projects.

The reason that Munawar made it $50 was because he worked a lot. I spoke to
him yesturday, he said to me, they did many retakes of the scenes. They even
stayed up until late! So that's why its about $50.

To tell you the truth, I've beaten it once, and while I'm trying to get

gone once you've completed the game the first time through, and while it has
some excellent sounds and a very well-put together storyline, it really
isn't worth $50.

Re: [Audyssey] Last Chance to Save on Three-D Velocity!

2010-12-30 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Bryan,

is no denying that most mainstream games retail for $45 to $50.
However, there are probably a few extra factors we might want to take
into consideration from a strictly business point of view.

First, how much spending capital does your target market have? Most of
the VI in the United States and in other countries are unemployed and
and are on some form of disability like SSI or SSDI. Since the
majority of the target market is on Social Security that means they
have a fixed income, and can't work over time etc to increase there
spending capital. For the average VI customer on Social Security
$50.00 is alot of money and the cost could seriously effect sales of
the product.

This is very different from a teenager who maybe works at an after
school job like McDonald's, Burger King, etc to make some extra cash
for vidio games, save a little cash for college, or a cell phone bill.
They can usually work extra hours to get abit more money, and they
certainly don't have to worry about the day to day basics like rent,
electric, etc as chances are good that their parents actually provide
those things. So they have that $50 now and then for the latest XBox
or Play Station release. Where your VI customer might have to put that
money foward towards electric, cell phone bill, internet, television,
rent, trash pickup, etc.

Second, there is the issue of what the target market is actually
willing to spend on a product. This is where quality and replay value
factors into the buying decision. If a customer doesn't believe the
product is worth the price you put on that product they aren't going
to pay for it. Sad to say that's the harsh reality of the matter.

For example, let's think about the Bavisoft games. I don't have a
problem with the quality of the sounds etc in their games, but as
plenty of people said they have very little to no replay value at all.
So as a potential customer I have no desire to buy those games, and
especially for the price Bavisoft thinks they are worth. Given the
fact there are better games out there for less like Shades of Doom,
Q9, whatever I would not personally pay more than $20 each. So even
though the developer may think the games are worth their sale price I
personally might not, and as a result my opinion of the game will
count for or against my next purchase. If it is too high the
developer will have one less sale from me.

Cheers!

So its really based on the challenge, that's what your trying to say? And
even if I based it on my mistakes, they will have to pay hundreds of dollars

it on the time I put into it? It doesn't depend on acting and those stuff,
it depends on replay value?

well I don't read his mails anyway I know he is a mod on one of the
groups, I know he spouts and to be honest while I hold nothing
against him I have never trusted him fully, Its to hot and I barely
skim my mails or read into anything much bar game releases, updates,
audio samples and the like.

I don't have any time to really get upset, rant or flame like i used to.
At 03:18 p.m. 31/12/2010, you wrote:

Hi Munawar,

Well, thanks for setting the record straight. I was pretty sure it
wasn't exactly as Muhammed put it in his initial e-mail, but it sure
sounded like you were jacking up the price to cover mistakes or
working over time at night etc based on his e-mail. I figured it was
probably taken completely out of context.

2010-12-29 Thread Mauricio Almeida
i have to say, however, that i am rather unsure why the developing team
so far decided not to open doors to, saying the very least, 45.000
people in brazil that wait for new, unique games.
We at BGB (blind games Brazil) tried contacting them for translation
information and negotiation several times, but either the contacting
system in the site does not work, or we did not get an answer.
Munawar, would you be whiling to Represent the team on such
conversations, which would be off list, obviously?
let me know, and we are looking forward to talking with you.

2010-12-29 Thread Hayden Presley
Hi,
To tell you the truth, I've beaten it once, and while I'm trying to get
through it again, I just don't care as much for it anymore. Something is
gone once you've completed the game the first time through, and while it has
some excellent sounds and a very well-put together storyline, it really
isn't worth $50.

Best Regards,
Hayden
