Re: [Audyssey] win trucker question
Hi Hayden, Smile. I wasn't actually suggesting that Jim change the game. I was just commenting on the fact that we haven't seen $1.00 fuel prices in years. I was just saying imagine how things would be if the game were based on today's economy rather than the 1980's economy. The game would be more difficult because fuel takes much more out of a trucker's budget than it once did, and making a profit is hard to do when stores don't want to pay out more for shipping than they absolutely have to. Wal-Mart, for example, is well known for cutting shipping companies to the bone as they pretty much demand and get whatever price they want. Then, turn around and sell the products for less screaming always low prices when in fact they are screwing other companies to do it. Cheers! Hi, Lol! Yeah, it does look faster using kilometers per hour than miles per hour. Especially, when you are talking something like the speed of light. Sure 669,600,000 miles per hour sounds fast but when you use the scientific measurement of 1,079,992,800 kilometers per hour now that really sounds fast even though they are identical. Just two different measurements of speed. :D cheers! On 7/27/11, Jim Kitchen j...@kitchensinc.net wrote: Hi Dark, Just for fun I looked it up and 55 MPH would be 101.8 KPH. Re: [Audyssey] win trucker question
Hi Sid, The below can be read in the game instructions, but I did not include them as a text file as I should have. Trucker Instructions : Trucker is a program which simulates the problems facing a long-haul truck driver. Ideally, you can make a good living hauling freight coast-to-coast without exceeding the legal load limit. If all goes well, you can obey speed limits and stop each night for eight hours sleep and still make the time schedule. On a good trip you will be able to earn well over $1,000.00. However, even the best driver's run into occasional streaks of bad luck and may barely break even. Bad weather, road conditions or a flat tire can place you behind schedule and eat up your profits. You may try to increase your profits by skimping on sleep, driving fast, or carrying an overweight load. However, pushing too hard raises the risk of a traffic accident, and you will be fined if you are caught breaking the law. Your Truck: You are driving an 18-wheel tractor-trailer combination that can hold 50,000 pounds of cargo (10,000 pounds more than the legal limit). You are buying your truck through a bank loan that requires a payment of $1,995.00 per month, or $85.00 for each working day. This amount includes reserves for taxes and insurance. Your truck has a 200-gallon fuel tank and gets 4.5 miles per gallon of diesel fuel. Your mileage decreases when you drive faster or slower than 55 miles per hour. Your fuel gauge is accurate to within five gallons and your speedometer is accurate to within three miles per hour. Accidents: It is extremely unlikely that you will be involved in a traffic accident in good weather. The danger increases dramatically if you drive at a excessive rate of speed, fail to slow down in fog or blizzard, or continue driving after you have become fatigued. An exhausted driver speeding through a snow storm is asking for trouble. There is always the danger of losing time due to a flat tire. This danger can be reduced by purchasing retreads or more expensive tires before you start your trip, and by promptly replacing your spare tire after a flat. Speeding: The speed limit is 55 miles per hour unless otherwise posted. Generally, Smokey will allow some leeway before pulling you over, but the faster you go the more likely you are to attract his attention. There are also a couple of places along the way where a radar may be in operation with strict enforcement. Whenever you get a traffic ticket, you lose time as you wait to pay your fine at the Justice of the Peace. If you receive more than three tickets, you lose your Interstate Commerce Commissiom driver's license. Truck Stops: Every three or four hours you will approach a truck stop. Each stop will take at least one hour while you get coffee, fuel and a spare tire if necessary. The price of diesel fuel and tires will vary unpredictably, but diesel fuel will average about $1.00 per gallon. Truck stops are also the only places where you can sleep. You may choose when to sleep, but, if you attempt to sleep during the day, you will be disturbed by traffic noise. Cargo: You can select from three types of cargo to haul for each trip: 1. U.S. MAIL -This contract will pay $.0475 per pound, or $1,900.00 for a 40,000 pound load on delivery. 2. Freight Forwarding -This contract pays $.05 per pound, or $2,000 for a load. However, there is a 10% penalty that is subtracted if you are more than 12 hours late on delivery. 3. Oranges -This contract will pay $.065 per pound of good oranges delivered to New York, or $2,600 for a standard load. You are required to run the air-conditioning unit in your trailer in order to keep the oranges from rotting or freezing. You will burn seven gallons of fuel per hour while you sleep. Routes: You can choose one of three routes: Northern route: This route is the shortest, but also the riskiest. You will leave from Los Angeles on Interstate 15 and drive through Las Vegas and Denver. You then take I-80 through Nebraska, northern Ohio and Pennsylvania. The total mileage is 2,710. You will pay a total of $195.00 in tolls and have one chance in eight of avoiding weigh stations. The danger of bad weather is high, and the speed limit is vigorously enforced. Middle route: The middle route follows old Route 66 from Los Angeles through northern Arizona and Oklahoma into ST.Louis. Then you cut over to the Pennsylvania Turnpike and follow through to New York. The total distance is 2,850 miles. The toll road portion will cost you $240 in fees. This route has fewer smokies watching your speed and the weather conditions are much more favorable than the Northern route. However, watch the weight in your trailer since there are several truck scales in operation. Southern route: This route takes you from Los Angeles on I-10 through Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. You then follow I-20 to Atlanta before heading north to Washington D.C.. The last leg of your journey follows I-95 up the Atlantic
Re: [Audyssey] win trucker question
Hi Dark, Yes, in the instructions it says that the speed limit is always 55 unless otherwise stated. And yeah, if you just wish to run at the same speed as the last hour, just press enter. Back when I drove the speed limit on most interstates was 70 for cars and 65 for trucks. Then for safety and for oil conservation they lowered the speed limit to 55. In most places in the U. S. it has been raised back up to 65. BTW I live on State Route 44 just south of the route 44 exit of I90. Which is just passed the Cleveland exit of I90. In the trucker game there is a speed trap there. Makes sense since we have a State Highway Patrol station, the sheriff's department and the local Chardon police. That also depends on the state your in because the more west you go the more the speed picks up to 70. Hi Jim, Quote The price of diesel fuel and tires will vary unpredictably, but diesel fuel will average about $1.00 per gallon. End quote Oh, I wish. I don't think we'll be seeing fuel prices like that again in our life time. Just imagine if you had to write the game using today's fuel prices. Re: [Audyssey] win trucker question
Thanks jim, well I think I have to admit that I doesn't generally read the in-game instructions because of the frustrating sappy, grin. - Original Message - From: Jim Kitchen j...@kitchensinc.net To: Siddhant Jain Gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Tuesday, July 26, 2011 3:28 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] win trucker question Hi Sid, The below can be read in the game instructions, but I did not include them as a text file as I should have. This route has fewer smokies watching your speed and the weather conditions are much more favorable than

Hi sid. I think the speed limit is! 55 unless your told differently. I must admit though, just hitting enter without having to constantly type 55 would improve the game quite a lot, either if you don't want to speed or don't want to slow down. i've found going even a litle over 55 gets you a tickit, and the only time it's necessary to slow down is when the speed limit changes for a wet road, thus most of trucker I spend just pressing 55, 55, 55, and having a way to speed this process up would be nice. Hi Dark, All rigt then, time for American infrastructure 101. :) The I in this case stands for interstate, and most of them sound similar to your motorways. Re: [Audyssey] win trucker question
Hi, The letters and numbers in this case are refering to the US Interstate highway system built in the 1950's. The idea was borrowed from the German Autobond, but was expanded to support travel throughout the 48 continental states. Even numbered highways travel from East to West while odd numbered highways run north to south. So if I want to head north to Cleveland or south to Colombus Ohio, I can get on I77 to go straight north to Clevelend or South to Colombus. If I kept going south on I77 I'd eventually end up in Parkersburg West Virginia, and of course beyond. Basically, it makes traveling by land from point A to point B very painless as the interstate system criss-crosses every US mager city allowing products to be trucked into major city distribution centers where they can be delivered to surrounding towns and villages not on the beaten path so to speak. For instance, I live in Millersburg. That's a small hole in the wall one-horse town a good 20 miles away from I77. Out of states goods are usually dropped off in New Philli, and another truck picks up the stuff at a warehouse, and delivers it to our local IGA, Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, whatever. So obviously the interstates are a big help in moving goods not to mention anyone who wants to make a cross-country trip faster and easier. Cheers! On 7/25/11, dark d...@xgam.org wrote: Hi Sid. As I said I think the speed limit is always! 55, the area just means how many police are around and how likely you are to get caught, you can tell this with the route selection at the start of the game. I believe I 90 etc are the names of american roads. In england we have motorways called things like the m25 and the A 1 depending upon what traffic they have, eg, a motorway is a large, multiple lanes road which goes a long distance, while an A road is one that many people use I believe, but I have no idea what the american letters and numbers mean, heck, sinse I don't drive myself I'm not 100 percent sure about the British ones ;D. Re: [Audyssey] win trucker question
Hi Sid, If you are traveling on an interstate, say I40 or I15, the speed limit is always 55 MPH for trucks. I think this is something Jim didn't document as its something most Americans know and take for granted that other people know as well. Jim probably didn't think about foreign gamers who aren't quite up to speed with the US Interstate Highway system when writing the game and docs. :D Cheers!
