Printing
I found the answer to this on this list last year. I didn't need it then, I need it now, though. How do I get the Gimp to print? The 1.0.4 RPM and source versions only allowed me to print to a file. Same with the 1.1.24 I am using now. Before, I eventually got one of the 1.0.4 versions to print properly, but I can't remember how. One of my major uses for the Gimp is to print out postcards, so it is imperative that I get it working again. I really hate the thought of booting windows and using my old Corel Photo-Paint (although the Linux version looks pretty good). dj __ Do You Yahoo!? Get Yahoo! Retouching photos
MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Using Gimp 1.1.24, Mandrake Linux V7, PIII/550, 128mb RAM. I have a black and white photo I shot of an actress on stage. She feels that there is a slight double-chin problem due to angle of the head in the shot. I have done very minor retouching before, but I can't quite get the handle on this one. The double chin is slightly darker than the front of the chin and the neck on either side of it. I've tried using the burning-in tool to darken it further and perhaps make it appear further back. This shows some promise, but I'm convinced that it is the way to go. I've also tried bringing in some of the almost-black background where the extra skin is in front of it to lesson the size. This might help but it doesn't appear to be the whole answer. There is a line-wrinkle across the whole neck were the extra skin meets it. Perhaps cutting and pasting it higher is the answer? Any ideas would be appreciated. dj __ Do You Yahoo!? Get Yahoo! Mail Free email you can access from anywhere! http://mail.yahoo.com/
Indexed Palettes
Hi all, Quick question... I've got some RGB images that I need to save as Indexed images, so I go and change them to Indexed using the optimal palette thing w/ 255 colors. This works quite well and does indeed create an optimal palette, but occasionally, with some of my images, the color black (#00) doesn't get entered into the palette and all the black on my image (which there is a descent bit) gets indexed to #020202, which is almost black but not good enough. Is there an easy way to fix this? Is there a way to take an indexed image, go in an alter the index that points to #020202 to point to #00 instead, thus replacing all the #020202 in the image with #00? Is there any tool in gimp to replace all of one color with another color? Thanks alot, Josh Estelle

Re: Gimp Install directory
thanks I did try that. Does anyone know how to tell gimp wherto look for its gimprc file? Get the bz2 better (smaller, but same contents), the basic is 1.1.24. If you have 1.1.23, you can get the patch file instead. For the bz2 you have to use bunzip2, then tar (or single command tar with special params, read the man page... btw it also works with gz, add -z). The process is explained in a file that comes, readme or install, I can not remember exactly. Normally ./configure --things-I-want, make, make install. You can give it a try, but as I newbie I dunno if you will like it. >or is it possible to get a pre-compiled package for the developers' >edition of GIMP (e.g. RPMs...) ?? Of course, Helix GNOME provides RPM of it, even 1.1.24 as some pointed out. GSR

I installed some perl libs, reinstalled (maybe not even necessary) and then it worked. Alas, I don't remember exectly the libs. Something like ii libparse-recdescent-perl 1.77-1 Generates recursive-descent parsers in Perl ii pdl2.005-4The perl data language addidionally to the perl-base stuff naturally. You can also build gimp w/o perl which will remove your error messages, but then you've no perl support :-( -- Johannes
Re: Re[2]: Round selection (again)
Hi Thomas, > Again, it just does not work, the error message I receive is: > "Procedural database execution failed: (gimp_selection_bounds 0) > Can it be possibly a bug? I tried it again and incidentally I found out, that it works, just like it is. But is works only once, immediately after having started Gimp. If you do anything before, it will display the typical error message. I tested it on linux-gimp 1.1.24 ands on windows-gimp 1.1.19 - the same. For the moment I don't know how to resolve this Problem.
