[Gimp-user] Techno - Anthropological Research
Dear ”GIMP developer” - team, I, Kristine Andrule, am a Masters student at the University of Aalborg. I am studying towards a degree in Techno-anthropology and I am investigating user informed product development. The aim is to use anthropological or ethnographic study methods to conduct an investigation about how different users are acting in the online environment as well as what kind of information developers can use to improve their product. This anthropological project and article will be used only for academic purposes as part of my semester project. I am very interested in exploring GIMP Users. I would like to observe This site from the point of view of the participant observer and observe behavior in online forums, participate in the usage of the homepage, interview the creators of the homepage and describe relations. I would like to ask for your permission to spend time on the Scratch homepage as an observer and interviewer. During this time I will write field notes of what is happening, I will also write my reflections. I would like to talk with the participants by posing forum topics, interviewing them through emails, chat rooms and Skype, depending on what is more suitable for them. I need to conduct this investigation within the following time-frame: from 24th of April 2013 until 12th of May. All data that will be collected would only be collected during this time-frame. I sincerely apologise having to ask you accommodate my needs in respect of this specific period of time. I will give you assurance that I respect fully the rights of all involved and promise that: No names (only pseudonyms) of people, products, places or companies will be used in my report. No photos or screenshots will be taken. You and the participants can decline this invitation to take part and you can ask to leave the study at any time. As a researcher I respect your rights. I am excited about the services and products you supply and believe that my investigation can be informative and interesting to you and I hope that you share my interest. If you have any queries about the study please approach Kristine Andrule (Emial: kandr...@student.aau.dk) for further questions you may also contact my supervisors Tue Thingaard (Tel. +45 30 33 22 30; Email: t...@learning.aau.dk) or Kathrin Otrel-Cass (Tel. [Gimp-user] Change the default Save extension
Is there any way to change the format that's the default save. I don't use .xcf and prefer to use png or jpg. Why do I have to export them instead of simply save? Why did they change it in this version? It's annoying. Pat Brown http://pabrown.com/ It is perfectly okay to write garbage--as long as you edit brilliantly - C. J. When I saw your message I thought you were a troll wanting to kick the matter off again, but maybe you are sincere. 1. There will be no change to the save system. 2. Get used to it or move on. And maybe read the archives of the list for somewhere between one and two million other messages on this matter. -- Owen ___ gimp-user-list mailing list gimp-user-list@gnome.org https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list
Re: [Gimp-user] Troubles in the Toolbox
I know this doesn't solve your problem, but a handy shortcut to use to change the size of your brush (or pencil or whatever) are the bracket keys [ ] . The left bracket makes it smaller and the right one enlarges it. My problem is this. I consider myself an intermediate user of GIMP. I know the basics, can do some fun stuff with it, but a lot of the program goes unused. I have left the toolbox and stuff as it comes on a fresh install. My problem is the details box I guess, is missing from the toolbox. If I click on say, the paintbrush tool, I can change the shape of the tool, but not the size. I used to be able to click to paint under and all sorts of neat stuff. Now? I can't change the size. Hello, I am interested in participating in GSOC 2013. Can you please give me more information about the project idea about writing GEGL ops? Are there students already working on that? Cherryh ___ gimp-user-list mailing list gimp-user-list@gnome.org https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list The reason is because a lot of other people use GIMP to work on complicated digital art which requires keeping a file containing multiple layers, and some of those people lost valuable project time and effort by saving to the wrong file format before quitting GIMP. (It's not the 'saving' part that was necessarily the problem, but the 'quitting' part). I agree the change may be difficult to get used to and it possibly was not implemented or handled as well as it could be, but the new behavior is also a standard design paradigm so for now your choices really do boil down to adjusting to the new behavior or moving on to something else (I hear there's an alternate GIMP fork which restores the old behavior). -- Stratadrake strata_ran...@hotmail.com Numbers may not lie, but neither do they tell the whole truth. ___ gimp-user-list mailing list gimp-user-list@gnome.org https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list
[Gimp-user] Regarding gsoc2013
Hi all, I'm Akhil Ennu from, I'm a good user of gimp, I want to contribute something to gimp. I have looked out the ideas for this gsoc. It is a very good idea to let GIMP support importing and exporting PSD files as some users of Adobe Photoshop may want to shift to GIMP as Adobe is not free to use, they may have some work which can be editted later, this may be used in gimp too in other systems, it gives a lot more development to GIMP. I really want to be a part of this development. I'm a good c coder, I have made 3 games by myself using 'turbo c'. I've used gcc for compiling my other c programs after I started using ubuntu-linux. Please give me a brief idea about this implementation. [Gimp-user] Text Along Path Trouble
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I am using 2.8.2 on my school Windows computer. I created a path, used the text tool to type in my text, highlighted the text, opened the paths tab and made my path visible and highlighted, and then right clicked and selected text to path. Instead of putting my text along the path, this is what it does: http://imgur.com/3ZZ6GDC (I am going to try to attach it). It creates a whole new path and puts the text on it. I have never had any path except the one (visible in blue) around the person's head. [Gimp-user] Text Along Path Trouble
It looks to me like it _is_ putting the text along the path, but in 11 or 12 lines. Did you enter newlines/linebreaks in the text editor? If so, get rid of them. There are no new lines or breaks. It is not putting it on the path. The path is a closed loop that outlines the face and head and runs along the bottom of the edge. There are no breaks in the text. If you look at the paths menu you see that a second path has been added. You might consider exporting the image and path to Inkscape, and setting the text there. I've had more luck using Inkscape for text along paths: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Text-Path.html I have seen several recommendations for Inkscape here, but I am a high school art teacher trying to teach my students to use GIMP, so an Inkscape solution won't help me. This is so frustrating because this was going to be their first assignment where they have to have personal meaning rather than just using their interests. -- Astabeth (via www.gimpusers.com/forums) ___ gimp-user-list mailing list gimp-user-list@gnome.org https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list
