Re: [H] Facebook
Yes it is, just search for adblock plus. I think it's even a Mozilla recommended addon these days. As to popups and the like, you might want to look into tab mix plus which has some more advanced options for controlling how tab/windows get spawned by events like clicking links, opening bookmarks, etc... You're right, and sorry for my cranckiness, it came out wrong because of that. What I wanted to say is that sites like FB are often searched by employers in regard to job applicants. In my country there recently has been several news articles on the subject. Mostly because people over the years make several profiles on several sites and then forget about them as time passes. And ones future boss might get quite a story from those profiles. With the earlier compromized (also) mail servers at yahoo, google, among others, history shows that one is taking a risk about ones personal info by submitting to an online service. Also, the usually heavy use of scripting of these online services makes it almost guaranteed that ones email addy is 'lifted' by the provider. Hear, Hear, I definitely agree with you on that! My facebook has only a distorted partial picture of me, and email address/etc only available to friends. No page after page of pictures, likesdislikes, etc. I mostly use facebook for keeping in track with friends and others who DO use it a lot. I hate reading people's updates every 15 minutes--Going to shower, brb! Done showering, eating cereal! finished cereal, getting smashed! etc I learned to like facebook a lot more after I found that you can untag yourself from photos, limit what actions of yours (the newsfeed) that others see, disable the Wall, etc Scott On Sep 23, 2008, at 10:12 PM, Soren wrote: You're right, and sorry for my cranckiness, it came out wrong because of that. Re: [H] Facebook
The main thing with Facebook is I find giving up a certain amount of anonymity is worth reconnecting with a bunch of people who I lost touch with. I actually spend a fair amount of time on the site chatting with old friends, etc. If you don't put personal information on the grid, then you won't have to worry. There's fields for phone numbers, web sites, email addresses, etc. Don't fill them in and they can't be collected. Just my $0.02. I can see and appreciate why people would be apprehensive over social networking, which by it's nature requires a somewhat free flow of personal information.

You can deactivate but I believe TOS states the OWN all data you input. Concerning visibility of personal info it's controllable in the sense that you have limited friends friends, and then options to prevent friends of friends or your network from seeing it. The less you list, the less than can be exposed if that's a concern... Naushad Zulfiqar wrote: Just so you know, you can deactivate and delete your FB account if you want. Re: [H] Facebook
Joe, I can not say yet how good is FFv3. I have no basis for comparison. (other than IE6 and IE7 (heavily tweaked, locked down, and modified by good old Carroll Kong!) I am not testing FF in a closed test. I use it daily for normal business. I know. Risky. I'll accept this. All I can say is FFv3 is happy with my Sister. I like it very much also. I will figure it out in time. And, I have only found one link I can not use with it. My bank still gives me some internal credential error when I try to pay bills. Just pay bills. Odd. Bills get paid using a locked down IE! No missed checks to date. Test period is only ~60days so far. I do so like the pop-ups that tell me my add-ons have updates. That is nice. I do so like adding projects to my daily todo list. NoScript AdBlock+ w/ update subscriptions are the 1-2 punch IMHO. FFv3 supposedly has some issues, what I am not sure as I am using it w/o problems. Biggest general issue I have is with Adobe Flash sucking but that's a 3rd party addon used by both versions. FF is safe as long as you don't enable scripts on dangerous site since nothing runs, no JS, no JAVA, no Flash, or any other addons. Now if the browser's engine sans-addons has exploits I am not aware of any, YMMV...
