ah friends if you select a word or phrase you automatically overwrite that
selected section, this is why this feature is normally not running with
jaws.

try alt+control+o (= overtype)? (Alt+ctrl+i was originally known as
'overwrite' mode.)

Someone was asking what it does. Normally, you are in insert mode, where
text follows along consecutively as you write. When you're in Overtype
Mode, you're filling in an existing space or template, *writing over*
existing characters, where the amount of text does not change.

Dear Ann, Flor and Alex,
Thanks for your suggestions. However I still cannot get alt+control+i to
toggle over type on and off. I went into the tools menu in MS word 2007,
went to options and went to advanced. The over type option was not
checked but neither was control over type with the insert key. So I
checked the use insert key option for controlling on and off over type
and left typeover unchecked. However when I press the alt+control+i key
jaws still says insert mode active. When I press it again it says the
same thing "insert mode active".

I then tried checking the allow over type key in the options menu but
then Jaws said typeover active when I pressed the alt+control+i key and I
could not go back to insert mode. It seems like for me the alt+control+i
key is either one or the other. I cannot get it to work as a toggle
switch.

Greg,

I don't know what it could be, since I am using XP here. I wonder if you
never enabled typeover in Word options?

1. Go to the office menu with alt-f.
2. Hit enter on word options.
3. Go to the advanced area, if I recall correctly.
4. Enable the checkbox to have typeover use the insert key.

Remember, this was the default behavior in Word 2003, but typeover was
turned off by default in MsWord 2007. Of course, the insert-key is the Jaws

key, so it doesn't get passed on to MsWord, hence the Jaws command
control-alt-i works instead.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Re: [JAWS-Users] How to turn on and off type over mode in word 2007

2011-08-23 Thread Hans Pauli Sundstein

Hi.

I don't know if you have tryed this, but probably give it a chance?

Start your Microsoft Office Word.
Go to the Office menu dropdown grid, and selec Word Setting's.
Arrow down to the Advanced tab, and tab to the checkbox Use Typeover, and
mark this.

The soonest way to the ok button is by using shift+tab.

I have just reactivated my copy of Microsoft Office 2007, and went through
these steps, and it worked fine.

E.G. use right alt together with the letter i, when toggling between the two
mode's ... typeover and insert.

Hans Pauli.

try alt+control+o (= overtype)?

I cannot get it to work as a toggle
switch.

[JAWS-Users] Ninite not updating MSSE

2011-08-23 Thread Mike & Barbara In Arcadia
Hi All,

I have found that Ninite, at least on all 4 of our computers, will not
update Microsoft Security Essentials. I will check what MSSE definition we
have, run Ninite, immediately recheck the MSSE definitions, & find that they
have not been updated. Then I check for updates from within the MSSE
program & MSSE updates with a newer version / definition number. I have no
idea why Ninite doesn't update MSSE, but I would like to find out if others
have this same problem with the Ninite program. We are running XP Home on 2
computers & XP Pro on the other 2 computers. All help / input will be
greatly appreciated. Thanks much, take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] How to turn on and off type over mode in word 2007

2011-08-23 Thread Greg Washington

Flor,
Thanks for the suggestion but when I hit alt+control+o in MS Word 2007 Jaws
says "outline view". I have written FS tech support and will let you know
what they suggest.

Best,

try alt+control+o (= overtype)?

I cannot get it to work as a toggle
switch.

Re: [JAWS-Users] reading details

2011-08-23 Thread Mike & Barbara In Arcadia
Hi Victoria,

Here is something you can try. It sounds like you need to widen your, From
column, so more characters will show.  Try the following;
1. Go to the view menu, by pressing Alt + V.
2. Press the letter C, for columns.
3. Arrow to / highlight the, From option, & Press alt W for the pixels wide
edit field.
4. Jaws will read you a number, backspace out this number and try entering a
larger number such
as 250. I have experimented & this#,250, works just fine.
5. Now, press enter to okay & close.

Let us know if this helps. If it doesn't, there are a couple of other
options. Take care.
Mike

Hello Lenny,

There are a couple things you can do to have the details read by JAWS.
You
can change your screen echo to All from highlighted. This should cause
JAWS

to read more of the details as you use up or down arrow keys between the
listed items. You can also leave screen echo on highlighted and use right
arrow key after moving on to a file name. Keep using right arrow key to
hear the associated headers. Using left arrow will read them in the other
direction. You can also use tab key to the headers and use right and left
arrow keys across them. Pressing enter key on any of them will sort the
list of files in reverse order. If you press enter on the Name header,
the

list of files will be listed from Z to A. If you press enter on the same
Name header again, the list will be sorted back in A to Z order. The same
is true for the other headers. Pressing enter one time on the date
modified

header will sort the list by most current date and pressing enter on the
date modified header again will sort files showing the earliest modified
files at the top of the list. You can choose which headers to show by
going
under the view menu and opening the Choose Details menu item. In the
dialog

box, you can check items you want to show in details, uncheck those you do
not want showing, and move items up or down in order. If you check an
item,

it will not show as moved to the checked items at the top until you close
the dialog and go back into it. You can then sort the checked items as
you

wish.

Take care.

Flor,
Thanks for the advice. Is the tools menu you reference in MS word or in
Jaws?

You need to uncheck the overtype Mode checkbox. It used to be found in the
Tools | Options | Edit tab control.

Ann,
When I press alt+control+i Jaws announces insert mode active. When I
press those keys again it still says insert mode active and type over is
not activated. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi.

Go to the View tab at the upper band, and press arrow down.
Tab once to the View button drop down selection, and press spacebar.
Arrow down to select column's, and press enter.

Now you are in a dialogue box where you can select which column's that has
been shown and in which order, in your e-mail program.

Remember to maximize the window also, so you get as much information as
possible.

Why not use the build in zip and unzip function, that are included whith

Just highlight the zip file in an explorer window, and use the context menu,
