Re: [JAWS-Users] Major issue! Computer freeze.
To do this just shut the computer off. Now hold down the f8 key and turn computer back on. you will hear some beeps, that is good and when you can stop. Now hit the 2 key above letters for safe mode. If you got your wife there I think there is a mode for restoring there. If so chose that one and do your restore from there. At 09:03 PM 2/4/2012, you wrote: Okay, how does one go in to safe mode? From: 2.g.i Hi every one Please read all of this before carrying out the steps. To save the guessing of when to hit f8 so on to boot into safe mode, you can do the following. press windows r to open the run box in the run box type, msconfig press enter the system configuration window will open either shift tab once to get up into the tabs use the right arrow, or use control tab find the boot tab its called the Boot tab in windows 7, boot.ini tab in xp once on the boot tab, start tabbing through the options you will find boot option Safe boot, you need to check this then tab once more you will find radio buttons use the arrow keys to choose either minimal or network again dont forget, if you choose network, while you are connected to the internet you have no securety running. now just tab to the ok button hit the space bar. on xp you will get a window saying need to restart, on windows 7 you will not recieve this need to restart the system yourself. On xp when the system boots into safe mode you will here the windows log on sound then you will hear a ding sound, the ding is a window stating you are in safe mode, just press enter to say ok. You will not get this ding sound in windows 7. dont forget things in safe mode are a lot slower, so wait a while for the desktop so on to load before you try to start your screen reader. In xp when you get your screen reader running you may find a system configuration window saying, is in selective mode so on, I normally tab to never show this again check it, then tab to ok Once you are finished doing what you want to in safe mode, you need to go back into msconfig into the boot tab uncheck boot into safe mode. If you dont do this, you will just keep starting up in safe mode. [JAWS-Users] intermitent odd jaws 13 and sound card problem
Hi everyone, I am using Jaws 13 on a windows 7 64 bit home premium machine. I have a problem that occurs when a windows 7 sound happens while Jaws is speaking. The windows 7 sound will interrupt Jaws and if speakers and headphones are plugged in the sounds will go to the speakers for the length of the sound, and then return to headphones. If speakers are not plugged in, Jaws will disappear until a few seconds after the windows sound has occurred. This also happens when I come to an edit box. Rebooting will cure the problem for a short while but it always comes back. Thanks in advance for your help. Muhammad, Ribbons are harder to work with, you have two choices here. First, you can learn to work with the ribbons as they are. There are some tutorials on how to work with them; basically, you tab to the larger functions and arrow through the options. The main ribbons are Home, Insert, page layout, mailings, references, View, add-ins, etc. There is some training on ribbons at ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/daisy/XTraOffice2007Intro Your other option is to use the Jaws Virtual Ribbons feature. This kind of mimicks the old-style menus in those programs that use ribbons. Ribbons are getting wildly popular, as Outlook 2010 and Windows Live version 15 have recently switched to it as well. Muhammad, There is something wrong with your experience; possibly you had an older version of Jaws that required you to label the graphic for read and unread. The latest version does that automatically as it should. Re: [JAWS-Users] Major issue! Computer freeze.
Ok, lets start with selective startup. There's nothing wrong with using selective startup, that's what I do to keep extra programs that aren't necessary from loading. I can't figure out why you said the keyboard wasn't working, but I can educatedly guess why Jaws wasn't working. I'll bet somehow you unchecked the REaltech sound manager from loading by mistake. That will kill sound every time after Windows loads. So the bottom line, when you go through the startup list, make sure you know which programs you are unchecking so you don't dump one that might be system critical, as the sound manager is for us, and of course, as an anti-virus program is. As to your second question, your Outlook Express files are stored under your documents and settings, Username, Local Settings, application Data, Identities, alphanumeric string, Microsoft, Outlook Express folder. Unless you have Task and Folder options set to show hidden files, you won't see these files. However, if you set up your backup solution to backup your Documents and Settings folder, it will back up your OE .dbx files as well. The other type of backup you can use of course is a program that takes an image of your hard drive and stores it on external media. The image will restore everything if there is a severe crash, including the Windows System and all your installed programs. You don't have to do image files as often, but you should back up your data in the Documents and Settings folder more often, as that likely changes on a daily basis. [JAWS-Users] Wierd and related? computer freeze?
I have XP home and 12.0 and 13.0. Ever since my financial web site has been updated, I've had trouble. Zecco is the site and the home page works fine. However, when I log in the page may not load entirely. Then the computer freezes. The keyboard does not work and my sighted wife says the mouse will not work either. I've tried hitting alt control delete and that does not work. I try hitting alt F 4 or windows M or, alt tab and there is no response. My only choice is to manually turn off the computer. I've taken the advice of JAWS and updated my JAVA and Flash through ninite. It seems that once my wife turned off JAWS then got on to the web site and was able to manage it. A funny thing is that the web site works on my second computer which is XP pro. I wonder if this issue had anything to do with my earlier problem with the frozen computer. I hate having to use the manual button before closing out of a web site in order to shut down. Thanks for any suggestions. Re: [JAWS-Users] Wierd and related? computer freeze?
Rich, It's one of those Jaws issues. When that happens, try unloading Jaws with the window-insert-f4 command. Then, try reloading. Better yet, if you consistently have problems at that site, consider getting a demo of another screen reader, or use www.satogo.com and see if that works. Occasionally, I've ran across websites for some reason or another cause Jaws to freeze. It doesn't happen consistently, but it does often enough that I resort to another screen-reader. I don't know if it is the way Jaws processes the webpage or whatnot, but it does happen more often than it should. - Original Message - From: rich rcha...@bellsouth.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Sunday, February 05, 2012 2:14 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Wierd and related? computer freeze? I've tried hitting alt control delete and that does not work. I try hitting alt F 4 or windows M or, alt tab and there is no response. My only choice is to manually turn off the computer. I've taken the advice of JAWS and updated my JAVA and Flash through ninite. It seems that once my wife turned off JAWS then got on to the web site and was able to manage it. [JAWS-Users] C.Crane Radio
I've been looking at some of their radios, like the CC radio 2 for instance. Is there a radio that you would recommend instead of theirs, and if so, tell me a bit about it...I'm down in a hole terrane-wise, and in a metal trailer house as well... Obviously not good for reception at all, AM or FM! Hello, all. Based on when I subscribed today, I might have been subscriber #600, or 598, or something. I love edSharp, but that particular feature never works for me. I would love to use it when converting tidbits to html (see below,) but I can't, so instead, I use Notetab Lite, www.notetab.com, also free, for the html conversion process. It is another powerful text editor, in many ways as good as edSharp. Jamal does eventually respond to support requests and sometimes acts on them.
