Windows Live Mail is very close to Outlook Express. In fact, when you open a mail folder, like the inbox in WLM, JAWS reads Inbox - Outlook Express- Message list view, or something very similar to this. It is very evident that Windows Live Mail was directly developed through some changes to Outlook Express, and all references to OE were not caught and removed. Caroline, If you are looking into an Office Suite, you should look at the Office 365 subscription. The personal version costs only about $7 per month, but does not include Outlook, but does have Word, Escell, and Powerpoint. The Home version has all of the microsoft programs and runs around $10 per month. I can't remember if the Personal version is only for 1 or 3 computers, but the Home version can be installed on upto 5 computers, tablets, or smart phones. As long as you have the subscription, updates are free. Re: [JAWS-Users] [Bulk] Re: Windows 10
Good question, Dave. PCWorld stated months ago that Ms is going to treat this as a long-term platform--something that can be tweaked and sustained over a period of time, rather than something to be scrapped every couple of years--radical concept, eh? Buying and installing DOS was never a big deal--didn't cost much, required no sighted help. But a long-term Windows would be a real blessing, provided it was stable and well thought out. [JAWS-Users] Latest 16 Update and Silverlight
If any of you are using this interface, you may already be aware of this, but the new update is a big step backward. I was having reasonable success in recent weeks mastering our portal. Yesterday I upgraded, hoping for further improvement, and wow! The app is now as skittish as a long-tail cat in a room full of rockers; anything you do after the opening screen is a potential third rail. The real shame is in most other ways it's an exemplary performer, particularly on our IP phone system, but back to the drawing board. Re: [JAWS-Users] download Youtube videos using Torch
Janie, I would be cautious in using this browser because, as I remember, it was, and maybe still is, a browser that uses peer to peer sharing when it comes to downloading YouTube (et al) videos clips/audio recordings. this includes the possibility of becoming infected with malware from less maintained computers. maybe I'm wrong, but be careful. others, please prove me wrong. you'd be better off with: With Pontes Media Downloader you can download and convert media from popular media websites such as Youtube, DailyMotion, etc. The program is a gui interface that's accessible and easy to use: it was developed by a blind programmer and is interested in any suggestions to improve it's use. http://www.pontes.ro/en/scripts/ On 6/3/2015 8:13 AM, Janie Degenshein wrote: what is the link for this? -Original Message- From: Sachin Sent: Saturday, May 30, 2015 1:20 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] download Youtube videos using Torch I am posting this message to address one of the common problem faced by the screen reader users. Re: [JAWS-Users] [EXTERNAL] Opinions: Windows Live Mail or Outlook 2010
If the person is just wanting to do Email at home, WLM is more than up to the job. However if the person already has MS Office, then he or she has a choice. I think that the user experience for WLM and the Email component of outlook is very similar once you get Outlook configured. In fact, in some respects it is easier. One example is that first letter navitgation does not work in WLM for navigating among folders or moving messages among folders, but it does in Outlook. Another advantage is that you can sync your Outlook Emails with Email on a smart phone or tablet. I believe that this also works for calendars and contact lists. One thing that is easier in WLM is to save the senders of Email messages into your contacts. That being the case, I'm so at home in Outlook Express with View, Tools, etc, it sounds like maybe Outlook may be the way, although I know to be prepared for pretty much a new world. [JAWS-Users] Windows 10
I received my confirmation for Windows 10. Clicked on the link for the Q an A internet page looking for the answer to what happens to my files when I install Windows 10 but didn’t find the answer there. Does anyone on the list know the answer? The personal version costs only about $7 per month, but does not include Outlook, but does have Word, Escell, and Powerpoint. The Home version has all of the microsoft programs and runs around $10 per month. I can't remember if the Personal version is only for 1 or 3 computers, but the Home version can be installed on upto 5 computers, tablets, or smart phones. As long as you have the subscription, updates are free. Re: [JAWS-Users] Opinions: Windows Live Mail or Outlook 2010
As stated before, you will not have the ability to navigate by first letter navigation, but the other things you mentioned I believe are all there: Arrange mail in preference order: I am not sure just what you mean, but you can arrange your mail in different orders, ascending, descending, by thread, etc. Put in signature lines: yes. Check time for server to check for mail: What you have is an Update All button on the Home Tab so that you can download new messages at anytime from the server. Setup different folders: Yes, you can set up any type of folder that you want within each account that you have set up. You can also add Storage folders to save your important messages to after reading, These can be set up and named to your liking, and you can have folders within folders. Delete in blocks: Yes, you can either select several messages using the shift key, or use Control + A to select all, and delete everything within a folder. For the Junk Mail and Deleted Items folders, the context menu has an item to empty these folders by pressing the Enter key when focused on this item. Navigate through a list of mail: As stated, first letter navigation is not available, but you can sort your mail in each folder by sender, date, subject, and more to make pinpointing a particular message easier. Add new contacts: Yes, this can be done in two ways. 1. When you receive a message from a sender who you do not have in your contacts, after it lists the sender's email address in the From field, there is an Add Contact option. 2. In the file menu, under New, there is a submenu where you can select as one of the choices, Contact. Some other things here are Email message, Event, All day event, or News message. Set up distribution list: I want to say yes, however, upon looking for this option, I could not find it. You would need to get this answer from another lister, or find the answer on the net. hth, Mike mike@comcast.net -Original Message- From: Carolyn Arnold Sent: Wednesday, June 03, 2015 5:04 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Opinions: Windows Live Mail or Outlook 2010 Does Windows Live Mail have similar ways to: arrange mail in preference order put in signature line check time for server to check for mail set up separate folders delete en bloc navigate through a list of mail add new contacts set up distribution lists? In fact, when you open a mail folder, like the inbox in WLM, JAWS reads Inbox - Outlook Express- Message list view, or something very similar to this. It is very evident that Windows Live Mail was directly developed through some changes to Outlook Express, and all references to OE were not caught and removed. in the control panel, go to programs and features, then view installed updates, find and uninstall KB3035583. reboot to complete the uninstall. now launch Internet Explorer. press alt+t, then u to launch Windows Update, and tab to and activate check for updates. after some time, you should get a link for optional updates, shift+tab to and activate the critical link. you should now hear bla bla bla (KB3035583). press the applications key or right click and choose hide with the up or down arrow key, and press enter. tab over to and activate the ok button, and that's it. no more icon in the system tray.
