hi eric:
hopefully you can fix the sports scores soon.
if history repeats itself, hockey, (the last holdout), will go the way of
the dodo bird soon after the preseason opens, which starts this sunday.
after a couple of games or so, that's usually when ESPN breaks the code so
research it won't work for hockey either.

that's what happened with football during this year's preseason.
I know it's not FS's fault.

The fact that you had errors during the installation of CDEX

Hello all,
I have just upgraded to windows 10 professional, and today I installed the
public release of jaws 17. I'm very impressed. Now, I however have a very
odd problem with a CD ripping program, C dex. I tried to install with jaws
16. When I installed, it completely, totally crashed my jaws. I had to do a
jaws repair with narrator, completely uninstalled C dex and the narrator
voice in windows 10 is very clear. Now, is this a bug in jaws 16 with C dex
or has this been fixed with jaws 17? This was very frustrating because I got
a lot of DLL errors too when I installed C dex. I tried the latest version
of c dex 1.75 but there's no 64 bit version, to the best of my knowledge.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated indeed. Thanks much!

I am looking for a web site which is accessible with JAWS which lists
the NFl weekly schedule, along with, the league standings and
divisional standings. There was a site called, oddly enough,
JAWS...but, it was a product of Ron Jaworski...not Freedom
Scientific. Unfortunately,it is no longer available.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you.

The Amazon product search item in research it is not working on my Windows 7
computer using latest Jaws 16 with IE as my default browser. When I search
for items that as recently as yesterday returned the usual 5 items now Jaws
reports there is nothing to display. I get the message "press escape to
close the results viewer. Other choices such as weather and Wikipedia are
working fine. I have reported this to FS support via email and am awaiting
a response. Has anyone else experienced this problem today?
Best,

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws stalling

2015-09-18 Thread Mike

Kevin,

Would this be right after boot up, or at any time? Sometimes, JAWS was
stalling on me shortly after it restarts after log in, and I have discovered
that it was because of other items starting up at the same time from the
start up options in Task manager. Once I had disabled some of the
unnecessary items there, JAWS stopped doing this.
This has happened at times other than start up when a program has tried to
update itself. The automatic updates for software like Adobe and some others
that appear in the start up options can really cause JAWS to go berserk.

It all boils down to limited resources. No matter how much your system has
under the hood so to speak when everything tries accessing an internet
connection which as we all know is probably the slowest component of your
computing experience things are going to bog down until programs like Adobe
just to name one gets happy and finishes what it has to do. I've noticed
even with 8 GB of memory on a couple of systems it can happen that things
just take care of business in their own time. The less the memory the more
the lag on the system.

I know of somebody who has 2 GB of memory on a 32 bit system, trust me there
is a lot of spitting and sputtering on that thing before it settles down.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws stalling

2015-09-18 Thread Sharon Gosling

I am running Win 7, 6 gb of ram, latest Jaws.

I think my Jaws stalling problem was caused by the Win 10 upgrade icon
sitting in the system tray.
I had planned to upgrade to Win 10 but my Dell evidently has some error that
will not allow it to do so. So the icon just sat in the system tray for the
last month or two. Finally my brain connected a major problem I have been
having every day with this icon. The problem was that every morning when I
woke up my computer it would talk for maybe a minute and then the hard
drive would spin at top speed and Jaws would go silent and no keystrokes
seemed to work. It felt like something was taking over the computer. This
happened every morning and could last for ten or more minutes but I would
usually have to force a restart with the power button and that generally
helped, but sometimes it did it again.
I have both Vipre and Webroot anti virus running on my computer and neither
found any problem.
Then I got to thinking about reading that Microsoft was using computers that
had upgraded to Windows 10 to send out the upgrade to others or something
like that.
Anyway, I removed the update and the computer worked fine. But the next day
it was back and so was the problem. So I removed it again and then hid the
update. So far so good. Today I started the computer and it has worked
perfectly for two hours so far.

I reported the amazon issue to FS a while back. There is a work around for
it. But first, let me explain what causes this, at least what caused the
problems for me and how to fix it.
When you use the screen reader optimized version of amazon.com, I believe it
puts a cookie on your computer. The cookie tells the browser to default to
that site. This in turn screws with the research-it feature because it is
expecting the main site, not the screen reader optimized version. Hence, you
get "press escape to close results viewer"
with no results.
The fix is to delete cookies. Then, try doing the research-it function and
it should work. If you are signed into an account, I'd suggest signing out
first, close the browser, then delete the cookies.
As a side note, under advanced in internet options, I have it set to not
save encrypted pages to disk and to empty temporary internet files when the
browser is closed. Hope this information is helpful.

Shane
ps: I just tried the research-it function with amazon and it works.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Amazon.com not working in research it

2015-09-18 Thread Dave Carlson
Greg,

Yes, that's why I use it, as well. It's an easy way to drill down to one or
two specific product offerings, especially when the search term is vague or
all-encompassing.

For example when I put in "APC UPS" to look for an uninterruptable power
source, I was given a list of 5 of their models, each with a different power
capacity, along with pricing. Cant get much better than that unless you go
to a Tag It site or a comparison shopping site.

Gerald,
It's just a personal preference in my case. When I am looking for a
particular product on Amazon I like the uncluttered simple interface of
research it. It will list five products that match my search criteria along
with the price and when I see one I am interested in I click on it and it
takes me to the item on Amazon's web site. I too use the amazon web site
often as well but it's nice to have the research option especially when I am
in a hurry to get info on a particular product.

when a web site is modified, Research It often no longer works well with

Respected friend, at the moment there is no need of SMA it will be needed
in 2 weeks time when they will release second public beta for jaws 17.
If you have SMA for jaws 17 you will use the same key for jaws 17 which you
were using to authorize for jaws 16.

[JAWS-Users] I have a question about C dex and jaws 17 beta

2015-09-18 Thread Maheen
Hello all,
I have just upgraded to windows 10 professional, and today I installed the
public release of jaws 17. I'm very impressed. Now, I however have a very odd
problem with a CD ripping program, C dex. I tried to install with jaws 16. When
I installed, it completely, totally crashed my jaws. I had to do a jaws repair
with narrator, completely uninstalled C dex and the narrator voice in windows
10 is very clear. Now, is this a bug in jaws 16 with C dex or has this been
fixed with jaws 17? This was very frustrating because I got a lot of DLL errors
too when I installed C dex. I tried the latest version of c dex 1.75 but
there's no 64 bit version, to the best of my knowledge. Any help with this
would be greatly appreciated indeed. Thanks much!

Thanks for your suggestion but unfortunately it didn't work for me. Here is
FS's response to my report re Amazon.com and research it.

Dear Greg

Thank you for contacting Freedom Scientific technical Support.

This is a known issue that our development team is aware of and working on.
It's possible Amazon is doing some work on the page that's impacting this
issue. Therefore, I recommend trying it later and it may work.

Be sure to include all previous correspondence pertaining to this matter
when replying to this message so that we might better
assist you.

[JAWS-Users] Amazon research it not working for months

2015-09-18 Thread Neil Towery
Hello Gang:

I haven't been able to use it for months. Using latest JAWS and IE 11. Have
deleted cookies. Haven't used amazon.com/access either.

A long time ago, I did click on the link that was supposed to provide
information about their screen reader changes. That was nothing but talking
about amazon.com/access. Wonder if that permanently "marked Me" as a screen
reader user, and, by default, locked me into amazon.com/access? Don't think
so, because I can still go to amazon.com.

Using windows 7 on a two year old Dell laptop.

Can the FS folks not get in touch with the amazon folks to explain the
difficulty? Surely FS can delve into the guts of the web design.

Neil

[JAWS-Users] Tablets & Jaws

2015-09-18 Thread Alan Robbins
The following info is for JAWS 17 beta:

New in JAWS Touch Screen Support

Since JAWS 15, users have had the ability to interact with
the touch screens found on various devices like the Dell
Venue series of Windows tablets. Using one and multi-finger
gestures such as taps, flicks, and swipes, users navigate to
and activate controls, read text, and perform other common
JAWS functions. In JAWS 17, we have continued to enhance
touch screen support by providing access to the Windows
touch keyboard as well as adding the ability to edit and
select text in documents, messages, or web pages right from
the touch screen.

Support for the Windows Touch Keyboard

JAWS 17 offers full support for the Windows touch keyboard,
enabling you to write documents, email messages, and fill
out forms on the Internet right on your device's touch
screen if you do not have access to a physical keyboard.
While a regular keyboard is still recommended for writing
lengthy documents or performing complex editing tasks, using
the Touch keyboard is convenient for writing a quick note,
composing or replying to an email, or filling out a form on
a web site.

To activate the Touch Keyboard, double tap the Start Touch
Keyboard button on the Desktop, or perform the new JAWS
gesture, four-finger swipe down then up. JAWS announces
"opened Touch Keyboard" and plays an ascending sound. Once
enabled, the keyboard is positioned in the bottom part of
the screen and each key is represented by a button. Use
flick gestures to move to each key, or drag your finger
around the screen to explore and locate keys. While
exploring, JAWS plays a unique set of sounds to alert you
when you enter or leave the area of the screen containing
the touch keyboard. Once you become familiar with the touch
keyboard layout, you can tap at the location of each key. To
close the touch keyboard, perform another four-finger swipe
down then up. JAWS announces "closed touch keyboard" and
plays a descending sound.

JAWS offers two different modes for typing characters:

* Standard Typing: A key is typed when a double tap or
split tap is performed on the screen after exploring to any
of the keyboard buttons. If alternative characters are
available for the current keyboard button, a triple tap will
open a panel of alternative keys related to the selected
key. Performing a triple tap on any keyboard button in the
alternative characters panel will close the panel. Standard
Typing is the default mode.
* Touch Typing: A key is typed when the finger is
lifted from any of the keyboard buttons, or a split tap is
performed on the selected keyboard button. If alternative
characters are available for the current keyboard button, a
split double tap will open a panel of alternative keys
related to the selected key. Performing a split double tap
on any keyboard button in the alternative characters panel
will close the panel.

Use the new Touch Keyboard settings group located in the
main Keyboard group in Settings center to change the typing
mode as well as choose whether JAWS announces characters,
words, both characters and words, or is silent as you type
using the touch keyboard. You can also change how you are
notified when the touch keyboard or the panel of alternate
characters opens and closes.

Note: Changing the feedback for the touch keyboard is
separate from the feedback for the physical keyboard. This
means you can have JAWS say nothing when using a regular
keyboard, but continue to announce both characters and words
when using the touch keyboard.

My question is, does one need to do something to get the
tablet in touch screen mode or is it automatic?

Best,

Al

Dear does this program deals with any kind of scripting?
If so, then please wait until second public

If you believe that it has nothing to do with script, then fault lies either

Greg,

Yes, that's why I use it, as well. It's an easy way to drill down to one
or
two specific product offerings, especially when the search term is vague
or

all-encompassing.

For example when I put in "APC UPS" to look for an uninterruptable power
source, I was given a list of 5 of their models, each with a different
power

capacity, along with pricing. Cant get much better than that unless you go
to a Tag It site or a comparison shopping site.

If you never used it, then how do you know it is sh*t?
It is a great feature and gets used a lot here.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws stalling

2015-09-18 Thread Kurt Miller
Kevin,

I was having the same issue earlier this year. I needed to update my audio and
video drivers and then did a repair on JAWS and have no issues for 5 months now.
It took my computer tech, FS, and myself 4 months to figure out that this was
the problem.
I would look at your drivers and see if they are the latest that are available.
Just a thought.

Kevin,

Would this be right after boot up, or at any time? Sometimes, JAWS was stalling
on me shortly after it restarts after log in, and I have discovered that it was
because of other items starting up at the same time from the start up options
in Task manager. Once I had disabled some of the unnecessary items there, JAWS
stopped doing this.
This has happened at times other than start up when a program has tried to
update itself. The automatic updates for software like Adobe and some others
that appear in the start up options can really cause JAWS to go berserk.

I’m using windows 10 and latest build of jaws I’ve been experiencing stalls of
jaws at times and the only way I can revive jaws is alt+tab until there is jaws
speech again. would this be something with jaws and win 10 that only FS can
fix Email is golden!!!
