Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem with OCR on a TIF file with multiple pages
Thank you both for your help! You have given me some ideas of things to try. Fernando, I can't remember is there a facility in Windows 7 to print to PDF? I forgot to mention that the hospital is still using windows 7 machines. I have found that the JAWSS OCR on files is pretty good, but I struggle with the output from the OCR on screens or windows. I find that trying to read that output is messy! Thanks! As a workaround, however, you could save the file as PDF by using a virtual printer, such as the one included with Foxit Reader (this software is comparably accessible as Adobe Reader and easier to create basic things) or the one built into Windows 10, called Microsoft Print to PDF. In my experience, JAWS has no problem recognizing a PDF file with multiple pages. [JAWS-Users] Problem with OCR on a TIF file with multiple pages
Hello, At the hospital where I volunteer faxes are stored in the voice mail system. There is a program to retrieve the fax images. I can get to the fax images with JAWS, however the format is tiff. With the "recognize with JAWS" that normally isn't a problem, however, the faxes are multiple pages. JAWS only recognizes the first page and stops. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get JAWS to OCR all of the pages? Thanks for any help you can give me! Have fun! Re: [JAWS-Users] Stand for keyboard and Focus braille display
That metal stand sounds nice. My Focus 80 at work came with a stand. When i use a braille display that doesn’t have a stand, i use a thin print book to raise up the keyboard. One Christmas my sister gave me a nice cutting board that a friend of hers made . It never made it to the kitchen because it made a perfect stand for a keyboard in back of my Brailliant 64. Re: [JAWS-Users] Latest build of JAWS
I had a similar problem with J2018.1802. I was staying with my parents, and my mom's computer crashed. It is a windows 7 64-bit machine. After reinstalling windows 7, when I tried to load the latest version of JAWS 2018, nothing happened. I thought at first that maybe there were win 7 files missing, but I was able to load the latest version of JAWS 18 with no trouble. Then I loaded the latest version of JAWS 2018, and it worked. Hi John, It means that the PDF is an image of the text and not actual JAWS readable text. If you would like to read it on the screen with JAWS press the JAWS-key, The spacebar, then the letter O and finally the letter D. Press these one right after the other. Re: [JAWS-Users] Accessing an adobe job app.
When I opened the document on the web, I looked at the file menu and checked out the properties. At first I thought it might be a security problem, but when I compared the properties of your file with one of my own that works, I ruled out security. I think it was under the "description" tab that I found the creator and the application that was purported to have been used to create the file. The application said "pscript5.dll." I googled that and the suggestion was that it was a driver and the document should be printed to pdf. Also, somewhere in there it said that the file was not "tagged." I think that would make reading it with accessibility in mind a bit messy. I don't really know all of the details about creating pdf files. I also don't know much about the pro version of adobe; however, at work before there was convenient OCR, the pro version was really handy because it could do the OCR on those images we all love so much! Unless you are going to create PDF's in adobe, I don't think you probably need the pro version, since convenient OCR is available in JAWS. If I am wrong about any of this, someone will let us know. Re: [JAWS-Users] getting stuck in submenus in Windows 10
Hi Joseph, I have managed to fix the problem, but the cause is a mystery. I should have tried this before, but my brain must have been on vacation. I removed my settings from JAWS 18--I shouldn't have allowed the migration from 17 to begin with--and reset things the way I like it. JAWS 18 is working normally. For kicks I went into JAWS 17 and tried to make sure the settings were exactly like the one I just did for JAWS 18 and still JAWS 17 had the problem. Later, I may play with it a little more, but for now I have to quit. The most likely culprit is probably the general settings in the keyboard manager, but with my little test, I can't prove it. By the Way my Windows info is: Version 1511 (OS build 10586.916) Thanks for your help! I really appreciate you giving this weir mess a try! Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws volume changes
Good Morning, I am afraid I don't have much to add except that I had this happen on a brand new work dell laptop a couple of years ago. It really is annoying! My IT person played with it for a while and I can't really remember what he did, but I think he updated drivers or possibly found others. I played with the volume settings and eventually I got it so that the volume change is minimal. That is, it still does it, but at least the difference in volume is not so much and not so jarring. Re: [JAWS-Users] WordPerfect X5
Hello! I use Wordperfect x5 on a window 7 64-bit machine. I have the same problem you are describing. I found a way around it, and I hope it works for you. When I load Wordperfect and I can't get it to work, I simply close it with alt f4 and try again. It will usually start working on the third or fourth try. I am an old Wordperfect fan and am disappointed that x5 is a bit fluky, but if you can get it to work it is usable. Re: [JAWS-Users] Links don't open in outlook 2003
Hi David, I don't know for sure if the following will help. I say that because of the message you got when you used the JAWS cursor. But I used to find that in Outlook 20003 I had to do something strange to get the link to open. If the link started with http, I would put the pc cursor on the first t in the url and then press enter. The link would open as expected. Not sure if this is a solution for you, but I think it is worth a try. Re: [JAWS-Users] Spaces Hard Returns Missing from E-mails
Hi Annette, Occasionally I have this happening to me using JAWS 14 on a windows XP machine with outlook 2007. I usually don't end up writing an entire email before I notice it because I have a braille display, and I can see it happening. I have tried many things like closing outlook, then reloading JAWS, and just refreshing the screen. The only thing that works is rebooting the computer. The only reason I can think of that it happens to me is that at work I have to remote into various computers and end of using different versions of JAWS from 7 to 14. I have been thinking that maybe after awhile JAWS just gets really confused. However, rebooting is no fun when you are working and already remoted into 2 computers. If anyone else has any ideas, I know Annette and I would sure like to hear them. Sorry I can't be of more help. Re: [JAWS-Users] Spaces Hard Returns Missing from E-mails
Hmm! There goes that theory, although it always happens on my desktop also and not on a computer I have remoted to. You probably don't have to switch JAWS versions as much as I do either so there goes that theory. I don't know what it is, but it just seems as though when you type, the cursor is slow to to move. I guess the mystery continues ... Have a good evening! [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 update and remote desktop
Hi All, Last Friday morning I installed the JAWS 14 update on my home window 7 64-bit machine with no problems. So without a thought I went to work and installed it on my office xp pro machine. It was a disaster, and the machine did not get back to workability until late yesterday afternoon. There were a lot of video intercept difficulties. But I am left with a problem and I wanted to see if anyone has any ideas about this. When I telework I use remote desktop to get to my office machine. Yesterday when I tried it, the screen would flash to the connection screen and then return to the screen with the IP address on it. When this happens there are no error messages, not even a quick on for the eyes of sighted people to see. Any suggestions? Thanks! Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows 7 login glitch
Hi Michelle, the part of the Win7 sign-on you can't change is the fact that you hear JAWS start up twice. Win7 has a modular design, so there is a module for starting up and a module for the rest of the operating system. I am probably not explaining this correctly, but it is how I understand it. Now for your log-on page problem. I am not sure what is going on, but 1. Have you tried tabbing around to see if you can get to the password field? 2. Maybe the screen isn't maximized, so you might give that a try, or 3. Have you tried alt-tab to see if you can focus on the log-on screen. With that in mind, what does JAWSKeY-t have to say. I have 2 windows 7 machines, and so far haven't had this problem, so this is all I can think of. I have opted to have set a password for logging onto Windows. Jaws will announce itself ready for action after the windows music sounds, but won't always focus properly on the password field of the login screen. Sometimes it will simply say logon dialog without allowing me to type anything into it. Other times it will go straight there and all will work perfectly. What strikes me is odd is that Jaws will then announce itself as ready a second time once I have managed to log in successfully. Is there a setting I should know about to eliminate this issue? Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows mail menus
Hi Andy, I had this problem the other day in outlook 2010 on a win 7 machine. It turned out that there was a window that wanted me to sign into outlook. Once I realized it was there and did what it wanted, I was able to get to the whole ribbon. So maybe something has popped on the screen and covered part of the menus. Also, is the screen maximized? Those are the only two things I could think of. Good luck!!
