hello;

the way I save attachments in windows live mail is;

1, open the message which contains the attachment,

2, use the tab key to navigate to the attachment name, and ctrl+right arrow
to highlight,

3, now press alt+f/s/a,
your placed into the save dialog window,
the default folder is documents,
so if this is suitable, tab to save.

Hello Janie,
When the message with the attachment is open, try pressing insert with
a to bring the attachment into view or tabbing to the attachment
itself and pressing shift with f10 or the applications key on it. I am
thinking that this should bring up a context menu where one of the
options will be save.
I have not used Windows live mail myself but this is just a guess that
I hope will help.

Np. Hope you like it. So far the biggest accessibility hurdle I have found
is, oddly enough, the help system, which doesn't seem to be quite Windows
standard. However, I think you can find all that stuff online anyway, and if
you're already familiar with MS Office, most of OpenOffice's stuff should
intuitively make sense to you. One thing a lot of JAWS users may like is
that it doesn't use ribbons, but classic menu bars.

Yes. OpenOffice works pretty well; in some cases it's even a bit faster and
more intuitive than the MS product, I think. Only thing is: it does not
contain an e-mail client, so you will have to find one if you want to fill
the Outlook gap. Try Thunderbird.

For some reason people seem to be using a very small font for their

stuck with 10 to 12 font size. I'm sure this is an intentional so I don't
want to reply any criticism. Just would make it more accessible for me.

Hello Mike,
The only safe way to remove any of these weeds is to use the un install

In your case, it's called "McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool"; can't

Good morning all! Using the latest version of JAWS 18, (Build 2945), I'm
encountering an issue when trying to copy text from a web page into a word
document. I am able to highlight the text, but unable to copy and paste it
to my document. When I press Control C, JAWS says nothing, indicating that
nothing has been copied. This is confirmed, when I go to my document and
press Control plus V. The text that I selected does not copy to my
document. A sighted user can copy and paste the text without any problems.
Why is this happening?

Hi Jaws users list, In my continued effort to do my part in helping all the
users of window eyes learn how to use Jaws 18, please read below.
How to access and use the Jaws help topics system.
Most of this material was taken directly from the Jaws help system of the
Jaws
18 version, provided by the VFO group.
I take no credit for this material, I am only using this as a learning tool,
to teach new Jaws users how to use Jaws.

If you are using Jaws to run from the system tray like I recommend.
Press Insert+J, opens the Jaws options window.
*Tip, if you are not running Jaws from the system tray, press ALT+Tab,
highlight the Jaws window, press ALT+F, to bring up the same menu.
Press the letter H, opens the help section of the Jaws window.
Down arrow to, Jaws help topics, press Enter.
*Tip, press Insert+J, opens the Jaws options page, press the letter H,
followed by the letter J, to directly open the Jaws help topics page.
You will hear:
JAWS 18 Help, Contents page, Tree view
Introduction book open, 9 items
This is a simple tree view of Jaws help books.
Press the Right arrow key to open any category, press the left arrow key to
close any open category.
Press Enter followed by the F6 key, to open that section of the Jaws help
system.
For example.
After pressing the Insert+J, to open the Jaws window.
After pressing the letter H, to go to the Help section of the Jaws window.
After pressing the letter J, you will be directly taken to, the Jaws help
topics page.
After you press the down arrow key to, About JAWS Cursors.
After pressing enter on, About JAWS Cursors.
After pressing the F6 key, you will see the following page in the Jaws help
HTML system:
*Tip, remember HTML, means that you can press H, for headings, press the Tab
key to jump by links, press Insert+F7, to display a Jaws links list, and so
on.
After pressing enter on, About JAWS Cursors, and pressing the F6 key, press
Control+Home, to go to the top of the page, down arrow through the page,
Control+you
will hear.

About JAWS Cursors
Navigating through Windows with JAWS is accomplished with cursors.
These cursors determine the focus of JAWS speech and are often directly
linked with Windows cursors.

The PC Cursor - Follows Keystrokes

This cursor is linked to the keyboard functions of Windows and applications.
This is the cursor that is used when typing information, moving through
options in dialog boxes, and selecting options or icons.
As you type information, the PC Cursor follows along with each key you
press.
If you are making a selection in a menu or dialog box, the PC Cursor
highlights the currently selected object.
The PC Cursor is activated by default when JAWS starts. If you are using a
different cursor, pressing NUM PAD PLUS returns you to the PC Cursor.
*Tip, If you are using the Jaws touch cursor, pressing NUM PAD PLUS twice
quickly returns you to the PC Cursor.

The JAWS Cursor - Follows Mouse Pointer

The JAWS Cursor is linked to mouse pointer functions in Windows and other
applications.
It is used to read information the PC Cursor cannot read, such as toolbar
information.
The mouse follows along with the JAWS Cursor when it is moved, and you
therefore have access to information in an application window that is beyond
the scope of the PC Cursor.
To activate the JAWS Cursor, press NUM PAD MINUS.

The Invisible Cursor - Explore Without Moving Focus

The Invisible Cursor allows you to move around the screen without changing
the position of the PC Cursor or mouse pointer.
You can use this cursor to read text and access options that you cannot move
to with the PC Cursor.
You can also use the Invisible Cursor to provide a quick overview of the
information currently available on the screen.
To activate the Invisible Cursor, press NUM PAD MINUS twice quickly.

Hi,
Press the windows key and on the edit box type paint can enter.
I'm not sure on either the tab key or the up and down arrow follow the
prompts, when you enter the paint can, there is going to be an untitle doc,
press enter to open it You have to save it and rename it, and attached it to
an email, by copy, cut & paste.
The last time I tried it didn't worked, because it had links in it.

Maybe you can make this work if needed in an emergency, Screen Shot in the
iPhone:
you press the home button and the Power button together at the same time
down , until you hear the snap of the camera and release quickly, The
picture of that screen shot went to your camera roll. Then you opened that
picture in your camera roll, there is an option to "share" that picture
(which is the screen shot, there is option to assign the photo to wall
paper, send the photo in a message, etc.

Hello;
Well, I'm using a dell Inspiron 5559,
To unmute sound the keystroke is, FNKey f1.
You can also unmute the sound by,
Ctrl+r=run,
Type in
Sndvol,
Now tab one time and press the spacebar.
Hope this helps.

Statistics are like a bikini. What they reveal is suggestive, but
what they conceal is vital.

Of course, the alternative way is go to the document you wish to attach and
with that highlighted/selected use the

now up or down arrow to mail recipient and enter
this attachs the file to a fresh email
and add your email recipient and tab through the fields to message and put

Hi All,

When I go to a website on ESPN I can magnify the page so I can see it. I can
see that there are links on the left side and I can get Jaws to read them
and I can also enter on them. When I enter on them it opens the story on the
right side of the website. I cannot figure out how to get Jaws to go over to
that side of the page. Using the H keystroke for headings does not work.
Does anyone have any idea what I could try to do to make this website work
with Jaws?

Good evening Jaws users group. I have been working today, on the next lesson
for the W-10 and Jaws group called, The Control and ALT keys, your best
friend. I learned a new keystroke myself today. If you are like me, there
may be times where you have six or more windows opened at the same time on
your computer. If you press, Ctrl + Alt + Tab, and then use the right and
left Arrow keys to see all the open windows on your computer, press Enter on
the window you want to have focus, you will land in that window. This is
fantastic, of course, you can ALT+Tab to the window you want as well. I like
learning new keystrokes for different situations. I am not sure if this will
work on prior versions of Windows, let me know. Happy learning! Smiles. Jim

I am a bit concerned over the significant drop in list traffic over the past
several weeks. Granted Microsoft has blocked out this domain and earlier
this year road runner did the same thing. Also in the past com cast and
others have done the same.

It might be possible that the list has run its’ course. It is 11 years old
this week as a matter of fact which I find hard to believe myself.

Let’s see how things go for a while before any major decisions are made so
don’t anybody panic at this point. I am just expressing my concern about the
way things have dropped off so much. It had to happen sooner or later. The
fact is I have no idea how long the average email list stays in business, I
suppose that would be an interesting study.

Now to sit back and see what kind of response this message generates.

Same idea, different way of getting there. With this method, there's a fair
amount of arrowing and tabbing. Using the F12 (save as" method, you simply
type the path and filename. No need to go hunting for the folder name.

Hi Jaws Users list, this is Jim, I have just been diagnosed with bladder
cancer. I am going to do good to keep up with my own group for now. I regret
having to stop the OneDrive link for the Jaws Users group. Please understand
my condition. I am not feeling all that well. So I am going to have to focus
on my group for now. When I get feeling better, I will again be back to help
on the Jaws list. I hope that I was able to help some of you with using W-10
with Jaws. I am trusting in God to carry me through this medical journey. I
want to Thank all of you for your kind words and for all your prayers, they
are very appreciated! May the LORD bless you all and your families.

Adrian, the problem is that I have 4 vocalizer expressive voices from
FS's site installed but they don't show up when I go to the profile for
vocalizer expressive. I'm suspecting that there's something else I need
to enable before Allison, Samantha, Ava and Tom shows up.

what that is... I haven't got a clue.

Mario, if I understand the problem correctly, you would differentiate
between profiles using the same voice by saving the new profile with a
different profile name. The initial vocalizer voice will be shown as
"vocalizer default" in the insert-control-s voice-switching menu. If you
then save your new vocalizer profile with a name such as "Vocalizer for
say all" when creating that profile, it will show up in the
insert-control-s list with that name, along with the vocalizer default.

Michael, as you directed, when I focus on the vocalize expressive
profile, tabbing, there isn't a voice person list to choose a different
  voice.

Profile Name: Vocalizer Expressive, 1 of 4
Delete Profile Button
Synthesizer Language:
Speak Sample Button
Voice Adjust: Combo box, All Contexts, 1 of 5
VoiceRate:
Voice Punctuation
Voice Spell Rate Change Percent:
Voice Upper Case Pitch Change Percent:
OK, Save As..., Apply, Cancel Button.

Hi

In order to use a different JAWS voice, you must switch to it. Press
JAWSkey+control+s to open the Select a Voice Profile dialog. Then arrow
down to Vocalizer Expressive and press enter. There used to be an option to
have a SayAll use a different voice than the default voice. But that option
has disappeared somewhere in the last few releases of JAWS. To switch
between the different Vocalizer Expressive voices, you need to open the JAWS
Options menu and then choose Voices and then choose Voice adjustment. Make
sure you're on the Vocalizer Expressive profile. Then tab to Voice Person
and select the voice you want.

OneDrive has made a slight change in the way we download TXT files.

After pressing enter on the Jaws Users OneDrive downloads page, and waiting
for the page to load in IE 11.

1. Go to the top of the page with Control+home key.

2. Press the letter H, for heading four times.

3. Just Down arrow or press the letter U, to jump item by item,to the
tutorial you wish to download.

4. If it is an audio tutorial, after pressing enter on it.

5. The notification bar will come up, press ALT+N, tab to save, press enter.

6. If it is a TXT file, it is done a little different now.

7. Press enter on the TXT file you want to download.

8. Arrow down to, Download menu, press enter, wait a second, press enter a
second time.

9. The notification bar will come up, press ALT+N, tab to save, press enter.

More and more sites are going to pages where you need to know where to press
enter to activate certain things.

This is what OneDrive is doing here.

After pressing enter on the TXT file you wish to download.

You must down arrow to, Download menu, and press enter two times to get the
notification bar to come up.

Then press ALT+n, tab to save, press enter.

Your file is downloaded.

Hi Everyone,

I am using Windows 7, Word 2010, and JAWS 13, on a laptop. I have an
existing five page document in Word that I would like to change it to a
different font style♣. I have placed the cursor at the beginning of the
existing document and than I press control, shift and the letter F, to take
me to the list of different fonts styles. Once I find the desired font, I
press Enter and it takes me to the beginning of my document. However, it
does not change the font in my existing document.

If I follow the above procedure in a blank Word document, the new font will
appear when I type something new. Am I doing something wrong, or fonts can
not be changed in existing documents?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Just keep a very close eye on your computer to make sure that Windows 10
does not get installed surreptitiously. It's bad enough that Microsoft in
general cannot be trusted, but based on your experience, even the agents who
man the special accessibility help line can't be trusted, either.

I just got off of the phone with the Microsoft Accessibility support line.
I can't say that I am as happy as the rest of you have been with the
assistance I received. Before beginning to remote into my computer, he
tried every way possible to convince me to let him install Windows10. Maybe
he just did not understand English well. I finally had to ask to speak to a
supervisor or manager, and he then agreed to do what I was asking.

When he was done, I asked him to review what he had done. He told me that
he hid the Windows10 installation icon. I asked how long will the icon stay
hidden and he said for a few days. I told him that I wanted it removed
completely from my computer and he said that there is no way to do that, and
that I will be happier in a few days if I would call back and have them
install windows10 for me.

So on the positive side , I will not be annoyed by the Windows10 update
window for a few days.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Update On "Get Windows 10" Saga

Hello, everyone.

As I stated earlier, despite my best efforts, the "Get Windows 10" message
re-appeared on my home Windows 7 computer once again late this afternoon.

Admittedly, I did not install the GWX control panel program software that a
few had suggested, because I was a little leary of putting new software on
my computer without really knowing what I was doing.

Anyway, having spent far too many hours on this needlessly-created issue so
far, I decided to call the Microsoft Accessibility Hotline for assistance.

It turns out that somehow, the "get windows 10" message, and associated
files had been installed on my computer in several different locations. It
took the accessibility specialist a full hour to get everything properly
uninstalled and operating as it should.

I couldn't tell for sure, but I even think the accessibility specialist was
getting frustrated at several points.

I used this situation as an opportunity to let her know in no uncertain
terms that Microsoft is not making any friends among blind computer users
who are being harassed repeatedly with the "get windows 10" message, and
that I would hope this could somehow be taken into consideration.

I am sure, as someone else pointed out, this complaint and my situation will
not mean diddley to Microsoft. But, I would urge anyone with this issue to
contact the Accessibility Hotline, rather than trying to go it alone with
only frustration as the end result.

At least, this is my suggestion at this time, based on my recent experience.

Some time back I had a crash. Never realized that I lost many saved emails.
My wlm folder now only has 9 messages. One of the ones that I lost was how
to create a category or group. I transferred my contacts to the laptop but
the categories were not transferred with the export and import procedures.
Would again appreciate the steps to recreate the categories on the laptop.
Thanks.

I actually tried IE 11 last Summer, but ran into issues with entering text

So, I have rolled back to IE 10.

Guess I'll have to try IE 11 at some point pretty soon here.

Is there a way to have JAWS repeat whatever it last said? At times the JAWS

message goes by without my recalling in detail what it said. Is there any
log of that and can it be accessed?

Great! The insert tab command does just what I was looking for, repeating
the most recent/previous JAWS message. Thanks!

Janie,

Nope. Insert+Tab just reads the same current focus, and if there was a
message spoken about anything else, Insert+Tab will not retrieve it. Only
way with more recent versions of JAWS is with Insert+Spacebar, then the
letter H to bring up a history of the last 50 things JAWS said.

Hi Wayne,
When you boot the computer, wait a minute or two, to allow the system
too load everything, then press the Windows key + the Letter U, to
open the "Ease of Access Center".
Next, press Alt + the letter N, to start Narrator.
Be patient, Narrator may take a few seconds to start talking.
From this point, you should be able to navigate the pre-setup screens
using the tab key and arrow keys.
Once you have completed this process, Windows should load the desktop,
at which time you can install Jaws.

My current laptop is malfunctioning and I purchased a new HP laptop.
I chose one that uses Windows 7 because I have MS Office 2007 and
Outlook 2007 and they serve my needs. I am charging the computer now.
When I turn it on for the first time it will have no speech capability
so I don't know if it will show instructions or updates on the screen.
I will load my JAWS
15 SMA
CD and run it. Are there any traps or problems anybody has
experienced in starting their laptop for the first time? Would it be
a good idea to have sighted help for that initial start?

Any wisdom will be appreciated.

In Outlook 2007, you can't create two profiles using the same email

Now, when you re-open Outlook 2007, you can choose which mailbox you want

Your computer may not have necessarily entered sleep mode when you tried to
shut it down normally. Sometimes, as I have discovered on my Windows 7
desktop, when you shut down your computer, it will exit Window, but the
power will not shut off. And because there is no sound coming through the
speakers after the computer has exited Windows, you may think that it has
shut down completely when in fact, the power is still on. This can happen
occasionally when an open program prevents the computer from completing the
normal shut down process. The only way to know for sure that your computer
has shut down normally is to wait a minute or two after you have initiated a
normal shut down, and if you can still hear or feel the internal cooling fan
running, or if the tray for the DVD drive still opens and closes when you
press the eject button, then the power is still on. If this is the case,
try pressing Alt-F which will usually force any open programs to close so
that the power can shut off. Of course, there will be no keyboard echo
because there is no sound. If this doesn't work, then you need to press and
hold the power button on the front panel to force the computer to completely
shut down. It should not be necessary to unplug it.

NO, I definitely meant Alt-f, not Alt-F4. The keystroke Alt-F forcibly
closes any programs that remain open after a computer has exited Windows.
Alt-F4 closes individual programs only when the computer is logged into
Windows.

There's also another setting from what you mentioned here, in the settings of
window's update that I have unchecked, it's the one where microsoft
recommends updates and new products or something like that.
I already had my updates set to not be automatic, but the next choice down, to
be downloaded, but I choose to install or not.
I'm reconsidering to switch it to the thrid choice, which allows for checking
of updates, but nothing is downloaded until you choose to download and
install.

Say you have a problem on your computer. I am running Jaws, so are you.
We could set it up where I can take control of your computer to help you
fix the problem. Ever heard of NVDA Remote? It's sort of similar, but in
this case, both people have to have Jaws on the machine for it to work.
And someone correct me if I'm wrong but if you wanted to initiate the
tandem feature (you want to take control of someone else's machine), I
believe you have to have Jaws Professional.

Janie,
when you run windows update, tab until you get to an installed updates
link. activate it and start looking for a KB3035583 entrie, press the
app key and choose to uninstall it. finally, let the computer reboot to
finish the uninstallation.
next, run windows update again and check for updates. when it's
finished, you should find that there's a critical update. activate this
category which should reveil the KB3035583 patch. while it is checked,
press the app key and press enter on hide. alt+f4, and vwah la, no more
pesky icon!
if it should come back, your best bet is to just repeat the steps to
hide it again.

Hi Janie,

Here are steps to do what you're wanting:

File started: 7:53 AM 6/9/2015

If you are tired of seeing the "Get Windows 10", icon in the system tray,
here's how to get rid of it.

1. Navigate to Windows Update, and then select " change settings".

2. In the resulting dialogue, make sure that "Automatic Updates" is set to
notify you, but let you choose whether or not to download and install.
After making your changes if necessary, tab to okay, to close the dialogue,
and return to the Windows Update Window.

3. Next, tab to "view installed updates", and press the spacebar
4. In this window, it will take a minute or so for the list of updates to
populate, so be patient.
Jaws should read a progress bar, and when it is done, make sure that the
view is set to list,

and then maximize the window.

5. You can use first letter navigationand look for the following:
Update for Microsoft Windows (kb3035583).
Once you have located it, press the applications key, and select
"uninstall".

6. You will get the usual dialogue asking if you want to remove the update,
so just spacebar the "yes" button.

7. Once the update has been uninstalled, you should get a prompt to restart
the computer,

do this whether you get the prompt or not.

8. After the computer re-boots, go to the Windows Update window again, and
select "check for updates".

The update you just removed should re-appear under important updates.

9. Make sure to uncheck the checkbox for this update, and then press the
applications key

and select "hide update", and then tab to the okay button.

Note:
When I did this on all of my systems, I noticed that there were 3 optional
updates available
1 was for MSE, which I checked the box for, and the other 2 were for
Windows, but not necessary, so I chose to hide them.

If the Icon Returns
Some readers have noted that KB3035583 returns if you don't hide it. If you
have Windows updates

set to download and install automatically, this means that if you uninstall
this update, it will

be reinstalled automatically a few days later.
To hide the KB3035583 update and prevent it from being reinstalled,
right-click on it in the

Windows Update application and select "Hide update".
After, the update's selection box will be grayed out and cannot be checked.

From hereon, the

update will be hidden whenever you reopen Windows Update unless you decide
to restore it.
Take care.

I just love computers when they don’t do what you want them to do even
though it has been done correctly. If you are interested then read on as I
explain.

Now I have configured many a signature line in my day and I know how to set
things so that all new messages along with replies and forwards always get
the appropriate signature attached. Having said that in this case my
signature lines only show up on new messages and that’s all.

I always use a specified file for my signature lines so that if I ever
decide to change my signature for any reason it is much easier since all I
have to do is edit the file rather than going to tools, options, and
flipping past 5 or 6 tabs to get where I want to go and fiddle with all of
that stuff.

FYI I’ve done this in outlook express, outlook 2000, 2003, 2007 and if there
was any other program in my past I am drawing a blank as to what it was at
this moment. The point is it’s not rocket science, it just won’t work right.

A Ballast for My Soul

Life is like a stormy sea
That tosses to and fro,
But God's Word will ever be
A ballast for my soul.

By its truth I'll be held fast
Till I reach heaven's shore
Where I will be home at last
And sail life's sea no more!

It depends but I usually can use either alt left arrow or back space
For instance, when in the BARD site, the back space works well there

In many cases there is a button or link somewhere on the page that will
return you to the previous page. I've also seen it set up that you just
have to pick from the navigation links on the page to get to somewhere other
than the instructions page that you are on. So maybe you need to find the
Assignments button, and then navigate from there.

Happy Saturday list.
Windows 7, JAWS 16, IE12.
I am experiencing an issue with the college blackboard platform that is
driving me crazy. When I enter to a certain formatted page to read
assignment directions, and then try to use the alt left arrow command to go
back a page, it does not work, and I am forced to exit blackboard entirely
and then go through the process of logging in and making my way back to the
class page.
I checked to see if there are tabs for previously viewed blackboard pages,
but there are none.
Is there any additional commands that can be used to try and go back a page?

I am using IE and am wondering if Blackboard and JAWS work better together
with Firefox.
Any help and info will be greatly appreciated.

Deon

Tables in Word can be difficult to navigate if they have been created by
joining cells vertically or horizontally. When you enter into the table,
JAWS will announce "Uniform Table" if it is laid out with traditional rows
and columns. If the table contains any joined cells, JAWS will announce
"Non-Uniform Table".

To navigate around inside a table in word you can use the arrow keys, Tab
and Shift+Tab, Control+Alt+Right Arrow and Control+Alt+Left Arrow. If you
are using JAWS16, you can make use of the Insert+Space, J, and then type
table in the edit box. This will give you some commands you can use with
tables.

I found something that I've never heard of before, and I do not know what it
is used for. It is called "Table Layer", and you access it with the command
Insert+Space, t. Does anyone know what to do with this?

Hi,

I'm struggling reading a table in word, I've also tried reading it in Adobe
and openbook. It's hard to tell what columns go with what row.
What are the best ways to read a table in these programs? I have openbook 9
and office 2013 with jaws 16 and windows 8.1

thanks,

Janie:

For now, the only way I can check my battery status is to go to the desktop,
and then shift tab to the notification chevron. Then, I have to right arrow
until I get to the portion of the screen that tells me my battery status.

This works, but is kind of a pain.

I sure wish I could get the insert shift B command to work here!

I poked around in device mgr via control panel and found some battery info,

I then tried the Power setting in control panel, didn't find it there, guess
next attempt will be a search.
