[JAWS-Users] Jaws song announcements in Tapin Radio

2018-06-12 Thread The Iowa Gal
Hi people,

I'm using Jaws 2018 on a Win 10 PC with Tapin Radio v 1.17.2. While playing
a station Jaws announces every song change. Actually, Jaws will announce
what's at the top of the screen, so it's sounds something like this:

Tapin Radio free v1.72.2 RMF Grunge Mad Season River of Deceit

Some might like this, but personally it is making me crazy. Silencing Jaws
is not an option because I often have Tapin playing in the background while
I work.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Norma

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Amazon Accessibility Issue

A friend needed to update her credit card information. She went to the
Amazon website, to:

Your Account

And there she was stopped because the link she needed was not on the page,
or not that JAWS could find.

The next step would have been to go to the link

Account Options

But that link was nowhere to be found on the page.

She called the Amazon disability number and spoke with someone. She finally
got the credit card information updated with their help, but as they saw,
she, using a screen reader, did not have access to that vital link. Perhaps
we, as screen reader users, are taken to another site, one supposedly more
accessible? when the screen reader is detected, because the woman assured
her that the

Account Options

Link was there for her, as a sighted user.

The woman filled out a form for their accessibility team, but if we are
currently unable to access information that was available to us before, as
it certainly was, then this is an issue that needs to be addressed by
Freedom Scientific working with Amazon.

I'm posting this here to see if others too will be unable to get to the

Account Options

Link from the

Your Account

Page.

If not, perhaps you too could call the problem to Amazon's attention.

My friend and I are both using Windows 10, version 1709, with JAWS 2018 with
the current March update.

She's using Internet Explorer. I'm using the latest version of Chrome.

[JAWS-Users] Recipe fractions being read incorrectly

2018-03-30 Thread The Iowa Gal
Hey list,

I’m using the latest Jaws 2018 and I need to correct how Jaws is reading recipe
fractions. For example, when reading 10 1⁄2 ounces, Jaws says “ten one fraction
slash 2 ounces.” I need it to say “ten and one half ounces.” I’ve fiddled with
quick settings and the settings center and I’m not finding what I need. Your
help would be greatly appreciated, as always.

What a crazy key combination. I'm fortunate to have a PC keyboard where the
JAWS key is next to the f12.
But even with this layout, it is rather weird.
I put my thumb on the m, right pinkie on the JAWS key, then use any other
finger on my left hand to hit the alt.

I use one hand to do things most of the time, and I wish I had a keyboard
that had an insert key on the left side along with a num pad. I know one
can get an external num pad. But I don't really use strange key
combinations often. But I would appreciate an escape key on the right side.

Opening PDF files is a completely different issue.

The problem I'm encountering is in File Explorer, but not all media.
I've only encountered the problem with SD cards in my built-in card reader.
File Explorer works as expected for my local SSD as well as my external USB
drive and my NAS drives.

Just today, I slipped an SD card into my card reader and experienced the
same problem. In fact, even arrowing to another folder caused the delay.
This makes navigating through the file structure a very slow process.

I hope someone can offer a remedy for this problem.

Thanks,
Jeff

I didn't find a better alternative than Winamp: advanced, very accessible,
compatible with many file formats and, if you need, there are many plugins

Mike, it does work when I copy the link and then paste it into the address
bar in IE
That's how I've done it the last few times now.

For some reason, this problem just started out of the blue. I have no idea
why.

I'll have to use the copy/paste go-round.

Hi David, thanks for these shortcuts. As they didn't work with my calendar,
which I prefer in a list, they must work with the default calendar format,
which is the grid. But they are still great to have as a reference. Thanks,

Hey group,

Yesterday my outlook 2010 was acting a little weird so I closed it down and
restarted my PC. Now it seems as though Outlook has reset the calendar to a
kind of factory default. All my appointments are missing, and the calendar
is presented in a grid view with holidays starting in 2009. But, I don't
think my appointments are completely gone because my reminder window is
still being populated with appointment times that have come and gone. Prior
to this calendar malfunction, there was a window that gave me the choice of
either snooze, restart and something else. I thought it was for the creator
update, but it wasn't. Perhaps I have installed an update that messed up my
calendar? I thought about a system restore, but wasn't sure it would help.
Maybe I should go ahead and do it anyway?
I'm running Jaws 18 and I would sure appreciate some helpful information on
this one.

Thanks,
Norma

Hi Fernando, I really like the functionality you describe by doing the find in
the navigation pane. It seems as though that is what I am currently doing from
what Brian says, so I intend to leave it as is.
Thanks guys for letting me in on something I did not know about Word 2010, your
input is appreciated!

I find that the Navigation Pane is more useful than the classic Find and
Replace dialog when you don't need to use buildcards nor other advanced
filtering methods.
When you press CTRL+F, a task pane called Navigation Pane will appear; if you
have the Office Sounds add-on installed, you'll ear the sound assigned to the
New View event.
To go to this panel, just press F6.
Regarding searching, when you start typing the caret in the document will move
automatically to the results while you type. Press ENTER to go to the next
result, and tab to the Previous Result button to go to the prior. The advantage
compared to the classic Find and Replace dialog is that there are buttons which
counts how many results are and, when tabbing, JAWS will read each result so
you can press SPACEBAR on the one you want to directly move to it in the
document. Moreover, in the Navigation Pane you can also move by headings. This
last feature is not very useful in small documents because JAWS has the heading
list with INSERT+F7, but for large documents where this JAWS keystroke times
out and don't return results this Word feature helps a lot.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Find & Find/Replace Have Changed in Word2010

Hello Norma,

It sounds like you are still getting the navigation pane search feature when
you use the CTRL+F command. If you have some sight and can see the list of
results using this pane then you might prefer it. Otherwise, you might want to
get CTRL+F to bring up the Find and Replace dialog like it did in earlier
versions of Word. If that is the case then here is another suggestion.

In addition to having CTRL+F for EditFind and CTRL+H for EditReplace you might
want to make sure that the keystroke is removed from the NavPaneSearch item.

After using Alt+F followed by Alt+T, pressing C for "Customize ribbon", and
launching the "Customize keyboard" dialog box by using the Customize button,
just arrow down to the Home tab.
Use the tab key to move to the list of commands for the Home tab.
Press the letter "N" and then use down arrow to find the "NAVPaneSearch"
item and check to see if the CTRL+F is still being used by that command. If so
you can remove it or replace it with another keystroke to launch the navigation
pane search.
You can then go into the EditFind item in the same list of commands for the
Home tab and make sure CTRL+F is applied to that item.

I thought I would mention this because I wasn't sure if you want CTRL+F to
launch the navigation pane or the Find and Replace dialog box.

Take care.

Just to add to this, I have the same issue with Jaws 16 through 18 on a Win
7 Ultimate system.

It invariably seems to correlate to the use of IE 11. It is not duplicatable,
but it does happen with enough consistency that there's got to be a bug
somewhere in the program.

When it happens, if I can get Jaws to stumble-and-bumble to the process
manager, I can close IE and reload Jaws. Oftentimes, Jaws is so sluggish i.e.
not quite non-responsive -- that I end up loading System Access to go and close
IE11 and Jaws. Then, I can re-load Jaws and its happy.

If I use a competitive screen-reader, I've not encountered these issues.

Hi Norma,
No, I didn't specify which version of Windows, since the original poster
didn't either.
I can tell you, however that Timer 1.0 will work on a 64-bit system.
One thing you can try, is before pressing enter on the executable, open the
properties on it, and on the "General" tab,tab thru the dialogue and see if
there is an "unblock" button.
If this is the case, you will need to press the spacebar on it, and then
okay the dialogue before you can install the program.

I've wondered about this, too, since Windows 7 search hasn't been picking up

Note that once you change your search settings, the system goes through what
looks like a lengthy indexing process, which I didn't pick up on right away.
It continues as I write this message, although I'm told that by working on

Accessible forms in MS Excel

Presenter: Andrew Downy from Australia

Thursday Jan. 12 at 11 Pacific, noon Mountain, 1 Central and 2 Eastern

You may have missed the announcements for this valuable Webinar with holidays
and a vacation from work. Andrew will be presenting live from Australia

Andrew will begin with a brief introduction to Excel and will give some
examples of when it is appropriate to use it as a form. He will then
demonstrate some techniques for reducing confusion when using Excel with a
screen reader including naming worksheets and hiding unnecessary cells.
Participants will then be taken through the process of defining column and row
headings. This becomes crucial for screen reader access when spreadsheets grow
in size and/or complexity. An important option when setting up an Excel form is
defining rules for what may be entered into a cell. This facility will be
demonstrated, with specific suggestions to improve clarity for screen reader
users.

Other Excell features to be covered include:

· Using comments to improve clarity;

· The potentially tricky locking of cells;

·

· An introduction to Excel formulae

You can obtain the sample form from:

http://easi.cc/archive/andrew2017/sample-form.xlsx

You can register from the EASI Webinar promo page:

[JAWS-Users] Strange issue with Outlook 2010 calendar

2017-01-09 Thread The Iowa Gal
Hi group,

When I make a calendar entry in Outlook 2010 using control + shift + a,
sometimes I can see the event in my calendar and sometimes it only shows up
in the notifications list that comes up to alert that the event is eminent
or passed. This problem didn't start until after a clean install of Windows
10 and MS Office 2010. I have missed appointments because I will look in the
calendar at the beginning of the week but it does not include all of my
entries. I don't think it should matter, but I'm using 2 email accounts with
Outlook. I suspect this may be one for the Microsoft Accessibility Help Desk
folks, but thought I'd throw it out here because, well, I know how much some
of you guys love a challenge.

Thanks,

Hi All,

A friend is having the following issues, & can anyone make any suggestions
on how to fix the problems below?

using JAWS 16, I've been experiencing some weird behavior lately.
in a slightly higher pitch, JAWS will spontaneously say the number of blank

spaces followed by a pause before some text within a sentence and sometimes
at the end of a sentence.

JAWS will also speak in a deeper and slower voice, like when JAWS runs out
of breath when reading a long continuous stream of words.

for example: after Bellarc Advisor finishes it's updating and analyzing and
finally displays it's report, reviewing line by line, JAWS will say
3 spaces, The information on this page was created locally on your computer

by the Belarc Advisor. 3 spaces, Your computer profile, 3 spaces, was not
sent to a web server. Copyright, (deep and slow voice), 2000-2016, back to
normal voice), Belarc, Inc. All rights reserved.

reloading JAWS does not clear up this occurrence. it happens on no
particular website and reading local HTML documents. I think this is only
happening to me and not a wide spread issue.

I've checked the text analyzer setting in the default and browser
configuration settings in settings center. it is off.
I've also checked my speech and sounds scheme, which is set to classic.
unloading and starting JAWS with default settings clears up the above
problem, but starting JAWS normally exhibits the problems, but the
configuration settings are no different as opposed to when the problem
occurs.

any suggestions as what to do to troubleshoot this annoyance?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Office 2010 or 2013

2016-12-26 Thread The Iowa Gal
Hi John,

Ok, let me make sure I read your message correctly. Are you saying there are
no keyboard shortcuts for some essential functions in Office 2016? And, if
this is indeed the case, was this brought up to Microsoft right away? Maybe
this is something that Jaws could have a script for. Forgive my incredulity,
but MS just leaving these important keyboard shortcuts out of their flagship
suite is ridiculous.
No offense, John, but can anyone confirm this oversight? Because if it's
true I amgonna hang onto my Office 2010 until the last possible moment.

Regarding the differences between office 2010 and office 2016, there are
distinct variations.
In Microsoft Word and in Outlook, the editing functions are quite different.
In Office 2010, you can use keystrokes to enter your instructions. For
example, ALT+C = Change, ALT+A = ADD TO DICTIONARY, ETC. OFFICE 2016
requires that you tab through the options and use the spacebar to confirm
your choice.
If you copy text from another source and try to paste it into Microsoft
Word, you are asked to choose how the paste is to be handled. You can make
permanent changes to this dialog, of course.
Other than that, there isn't much difference on the front end. Internally,
there are significant changes.
Saving a file is no longer as easy as it was in 2010. But, those changes do
make it easier to make sure that the file ends up in the right folder.

That's all I can think of right now. I'll post again if I think of anything
else.

VERY IMPORTANT! It is possible to obtain Office 2016 on disk but
downloading it from the web is a serious pain in the butt. The easiest way
is to create a Microsoft.com identity. If not, there are many security
measures which impact screen reader users.

Hello list,

So a companion post to my message from a few days ago. I bought a tower
Windows 10 desktop and am now considering on whether to get an Office 2010
license key for it which I am currently using on my other systems and am
familiar with or if there is any benefit in getting a 2013 or 2016 version.
Is there anything in the newer versions of Office, in particular Outlook,
Word, Excel that would merit trying one of them out?

Learning curve aside, are there any substantial issues or quirks with Jaws
and the newer versions of Office. From time to time, I recall threads having
to do with this or that Office 2013/2016 and JFW issue, but as it didn’t
affect me, I didn’t pay them much attention. I’m running the latest 12/5/17
JFW update.

I plan on buying the32 bit version since there’s no real advantage of
getting the 64 bit one even though the machine will be 64 bit.

Any input would be appreciated.

thanks,

Hello,

I have a serious problem that appears to be related to the latest build of
JAWS 18,, that was released earlier this month.

I was able to use this build for a while, but I can't remember what lead up
to this problem, but I will explain.

After restarting my computer completely during the week, I lost all speech.
When I pressed J for JAWS on the desktop and pressed enter on the shortcut,
I received a message stating that there was a problem with the shortcut. I
tried to repair JAWS but I received another message stating that I had to
verify that I had access to the file, JFW.exe. I could not do this. There
was no option of verifying such access. The only solution I could try was to
completely remove JAWS, then reinstall the version on the cd.

How can I sort this out?

Thanks.

Hi everyone!

After some searching I answered my own question and found three editors that
can handle arbitrarily large, gigabytes, files. I'm posting this just in
case it helps anyone else.

I found three editors that can handle very large files, one is free, one is
free for personal use but requires a paid license for commercial use, and
the last one is a commercial product requiring a paid license beyond the 30
day trial.

The free one is called VIM and can be found at . I ended
up not testing this, so I can't say much about it.

Edit Pad Pro is the commercial product and is at
. Like VIM, this is a full featured programmer's
text editor. I also did not test this one, so will leave it at that.

The editor I chose is Edit Pad Lite at . It is
by the same company that makes Edit Pad Pro, but does not include all the
programmer specific features like syntax highlighting and auto completion.
It is free for personal, non commercial use. It's not lite on editing
features, just on programmer specific ones, and most important of all, it
works with JAWS.

I hope somebody finds this information helpful.

Cheers!

the beta and it never started happening until about two windows update's
ago.

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone had an email open in Outlook and then your focus goes back to the
inbox? Then if I do a alt+tab it will go back to the email I had open. I
have had this happen maybe once or twice a day. Has anyone else had this
issue. This just started doing this about one or two months ago.

I am using Jaws 18, Outlook 2010 and W10

Why do I want to save the changes to the normal template? What is it that I

know, I did not make any changes that I am aware of.

Hi Annette,

Hope you & yours had a lovely Thanksgiving. This isn't an answer to your
question, but how to stop that annoying message.

While in Word, if you go to Tools, Options, Advanced tab there is a checkbox
that you can uncheck, prompt before saving normal template. If you uncheck
this checkbox, any changes to the normal template will be saved
automatically without bringing up that dialogue. While on the Advance Tab,
Alt + O, is the keystroke that will get you there more quickly. Note: you
may have to invoke the Alt + O keystroke more than once to get you there.
Then, tab to okay, press the spacebar to save your changes & close options.

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] Selecting appointment time Outlook 2010

2016-11-20 Thread The Iowa Gal
Hi group,

Using Jaws 18 with Outlook 2010 and Windows 10. When I cursor up or down to
select a time when setting an appointment, Jaws reads the time I've landed
on then the time just above. So, for example, when I cursor to 8 am, Jaws
says "8 am, 7:30 am."
I would appreciate help with this, as it is kind of driving me crazy, though
I admit that's not a long trip...

Thanks,

However, it's always possible for someone to copy the text and paste it into

On how to protect the file from someone else making changes, I hope you'll

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws on a tablet

2016-10-27 Thread The Iowa Gal
Ok. If it's running Windows 10, why not just install the appropriate version
of Jaws, I think that would be v. 17+, run it in demo mode, and see how you
get along with it. I would imagine you would have to be pretty good typing
on a touch screen unless you use an external keyboard. I can't imagine using
Jaws without a full qwerty keyboard but that's me. I mean, I know Jaws has
implemented touch cursor stuff but how would one emulate holding down
insert+B, for example? I guess one could run Jaws in laptop mode and use the
caps lock as the Jaws key, but, wow, this seems like a lot of work while
using a touch screen. Perhaps some of the others on this list with more
knowledge about this topic can chime in here and enlighten us. Unless you're
married to this tablet, you might want to go for one running Android or IOS.

I meant to ask whether the program allows you to rip CD's from your personal

I have used CD . EXE for that purpose, but I know that program is getting

Thank you for the word 'switch," which is much more descriptive than my

gap with the tip of my finger, then run my finger fairly hard against that
side. You can tell when the switch moves.

Re: [JAWS-Users] FS Reader and Bookshare

2016-09-08 Thread The Iowa Gal
While in FS Reader, you need to do a control + O to get to the area where
your book is stored. It should open that way.

Another way, which depends on how your PC is set up, is to just hit enter on
the book file and FS Reader will open and you'll be in the book.

I can't seem to locate a straightforward explanation of how to get a
Bookshare volume to read with FS Reader. I have a certain book downloaded as
a zip file. I know how to unzip a file, but I'm not sure what to do beyond
that to get it into the FS Reader and have FS Reader display it so I can
read it with JAWS.

Can someone please point me to a good explanation?

Norma,
Your folders are arranged in what Windows calls a tree. But, before you
can create a new folder, you first have to choose the option indicating that
you want to move the message to a folder. Once you have checked that box,
you will be presented with a list of your current folders. In order to
create a new one, use your up arrow to go to the top of the list and listen
for the root of the tree, usually your name. Then shift tab to where New
Folder is indicated. Press enter to activate that option. Type the name of
the folder. Confirm that it will contain mail or post items. Then tab to
Okay and press enter.

Using this method, the folder will be shown in your main tree display.
Be careful to always move to the top because you will inadvertently create a
folder within a folder. For example, if your focus is on the In box, you
can create a folder within the In box. Personally, I don't do that because
accessing those folders in Outlook 10 can be difficult.

This is very general but it might help to clear up some of the confusion.
Please feel free to e-mail me off list if you need further clarification.

Norma, to create a rule, while in the "in box" and on a message, I press the

which I get to by tabbing through the dialogue box.

Hi Norma,

You might need to enable the download sound that will play a sound when the
download is completed. Try the following:
I need to 1st preface these steps by stating that I'm running Windows 7 Pro
64 bit, IE11, & Jaws 16 & 17, but IE11 should be the same in Windows 8 or
10:

You might not have sounds turned on so, therefore you won't hear it or, the
sound might be 1 that's hard to hear. So, you assign a different sound to
the, Notify task in your Sound Scheme. Below are steps on turning on
sounds.

To get sounds In IE11:

With IE11 open, press ,control + J, to open the View Downloads dialog. Tab
to the options link, press the spacebar, tab and when you hear notify me
when download is complete, hit spacebar to check the checkbox. tab to & Okay
the choice. If the, control + J, keystroke doesn't work, try pressing, Alt
+ T, to open the tools menu, arrow down to, View Downloads, & press enter to
open the View Downloads dialog.

In Internet Explorer 11 there is the option of playing system sounds, These
sounds include a sound to Notify you when your downloads are complete By
default the system sounds & Notify when download is complete options are
off. To turn them on:
1. On the tools menu, choose internet options.

2. In the dialog ctrl+tab until you get to the advanced page.

3. In the settings tree view, in the accessibility group, there's the item
play system sounds-off. You can quickly move to this by pressing the letter
p. Press spacebar, and the item changes to play system sounds-on.

4. Now press the letter, N, to, Notify when downloads complete-OFF. Press
the spacebar to toggle this to, ON.

5. press enter to press the default ok button to save your changes & close
Tools / Options.

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] Saving a file from a Dropbox link

2016-07-28 Thread The Iowa Gal
Hey people,

I'm using I.E. 11 and outlook 2010 with Jaws 16.0.4468. When I enter on a
link to download a Dropbox file, I cannot locate the "save" button. I land
on the file as it is listed at the top of the downloads list but tabbing
around does not land me on the usual "open" or "save" buttons. Dropbox is
the only place I have this issue. Downloading from other sites, such as
BARD, Bookshare, etc. clearly show the buttons. I tried using my Jaws
cursor, I right click on save and it asks if I want to remove the file from
the download list.
Obviously this is a real pain in the rump, as I need these files and
downloading them is hit or miss at best. If anyone can shed some light on
this I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Wayne,

I'm afraid this is not very helpful, but I know exactly what you are talking
about because it has happened to me too and not just in Word. I've had the
same thing happen in Outlook. I'll be typing along then when I go back to
proof what I've written, I sometimes find portions of my text in a
completely different paragraph or line from where I intended.

I haven't been able to figure out any pattern regarding when this occurs
making it sort of random which is why I have never mentioned it on the list.
I had a half-baked theory that I was inadvertently hitting some key on my
Braille display that was causing the cursor to jump, but I just don't know.
Are you using a Braille display when this text jumping happens to you?

If anyone else has seen this behavior, I'd like to hear about your
experience. Maybe we can figure out what's going on and report it to FS or
whatever the heck they're calling themselves these days.

Yes, it's a proper form of text formatting where Word puts extra visual
space between paragraphs, and a smaller space between lines within the
paragraph. It's defined as pts, which stands for points. In the paragraph
dialogue, you will see points above and points below. The number varies with
font choice. Note that in days of yore, people used to put two returns
between paragraphs to add that wanted blank white space. But that can end up
causing blank lines where you don't want them, as in at the top of a page.
So, the blank space you are seeing is created by Word, and Jaws would indeed
recognize a blank space if you were to press the return key multiple times.

Hope that helps.

Jean

Hi Norma,

Do you know if this blank line that you are not detecting is only occurring
between paragraphs? If so, then there is a setting that is telling Word to
either automatically insert an extra blank line after a hard Return, or the
setting might have something to do with the height of that blank line
between paragraphs.

I can never remember where these changes reside, so you can start by looking
in places like the paragraph settings, or in the style settings.

Good Luck! These things drive me crazy!

detect using Jaws. For example, with Jaws I read

But the sighted person says there is a blank line there, that is what he

Forgive my frustration, but how in the hell am I supposed to create

seems so fundamental that a mere setting wouldn't cover something so
critical to composition.

I'm hoping someone can enlighten me. Meanwhile, I'm off for a mental health

After updating to the latest J17 build I had to go into the Jaws context menu /
options / Voices / Voice Adjustment, & make changes to the following:

PC Cursor Voice
Jaws Cursor Voice
Keyboard Voice
Tutor and Message Voice

What you might be hearing is the voice pitch changes of the above settings.
All the above default settings have various pitch settings which will make
things sound weird / different than what you're used to with your preferred
settings.

As far as Jaws changing languages, go into the Settings Center default all
applications, arrow down to, Text Processing, right arrow to open, down arrow
to, Detect Languages, uncheck this box, tab to, Okay, press enter to save the
change & close.

You can also turn the, Language Detect Change, option off in Jaws quick

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws voice

2016-07-17 Thread The Iowa Gal
As to the issues raised by the original poster in this thread, I have
encountered same in previous versions of Jaws. For example, in say all mode, if
it is a long document, my Jaws voice will get lower in pitch as it gets closer
to the bottom of the document or page. I think it might slow down a bit, too,
though I don't remember for sure. And I do occasionally have Jaws speak briefly
in a language other than English. In my case, these things happen so seldom
that I just pass them off as glitches. Not sure if this helps, but thought I'd
throw it out there. Norma

Hi Kevin,

You can also turn the, Language Detect Change, option off in Jaws quick
settings, Insert + V, for individual applications.

Take care.

Well, this new update would not install at all. I must have tried 20 times,

on this computer. I ended up having to repair Jaws 16 & Openbook to get my

After installing the previous update to Open Book, I had to re-authorize

Hi

Any time you install a new voice profile into JAWS, JAWS must be restarted
before the new profile shows up. So when you pressed enter on the Vocalizer
voice, if it told you that the voice was installed successfully, the
Vocalizer voice profile should automatically show up. So try restarting
JAWS or rebooting to see if the Vocalizer profile is there. To change the
pitch for a voice profile, you have to change it for each of the JAWS voices
individually. So go to the JAWS main menu, options, voices and then voice
adjustment. Find the voice profile you want to change the profile for.
Then tab until you get to the combo box that says adjust all contexts. Then
down arrow to each of the different individual voices, such as the PC
cursor, JAWS cursor, etc. Tab until you get to pitch and set it to what you
want. Then you can back tab to the adjust combo box and arrow down to the
next voice.

hello;
just a thought here!
have you changed the speech verbosity?
there's 3 choices,
Use the options in this group to set the verbosity level. Verbosity
determines the amount of information spoken by JAWS. Each verbosity level is
preset to give a different amount of detail. Each level can be further
customized to give only the information you want to hear. The default
selection is Beginner, which gives the most detailed information.

escalation specialist. He called to get additional information on the Jaws
crashing and/or pausing issues some of us are having with Jaws 16 and/or 17
and Windows 7 and/or 10. I know we have had several folks speaking of some
or all of the above. Unfortunately only myself and one other person has
reported this to Freedom Scientific as far as he knows of.

The purpose of this post is to urge anyone having this issue (all or part)
to contact Freedom Scientific by phone or email to report this issue. This
will generate a case number and the team can then try to get at some
similarities to begin to debug the issue. Again, and this has been said many
times, if you don't report issues to freedom scientific and only do so on

if you report.

Best,

Since I could not fix thekeyboard manager keystroke for (ctrl e) activate

and left the shared my computer components alone. I think that's the name of
the option for the second choice while starting the uninstall process. When
jaws was successfully reinstalled and I hit finished all my prier settings
were unchanged and jaws did not ask me to reboot. Whe I looked at the
keyboard manager the activate searchbox keystroke at the top of the list was

Upon rebooting the only thing that was changed was I had to fix the shortcut
key to start jaws and the logon information under the basic option. Again,
the activate searchbox keystroke still wasn't fixed. I'm at least happy that
the lack of the keystroke does not seem to interfere with my work. Curious,
what does that keystroke (ctrl e) actually do and when is it utilized?

[JAWS-Users] Research It and NCAA football scores

2015-09-12 Thread The Iowa Gal
Hey people,

I'm using Jaws 16 on my win 7 PC and I'm not seeing any college football
scores. Just wondering if anyone is getting the scores or what. For example,
there are 2 games being played as I write this, Friday, 9-11 at about 9:45 pm
central. I didn't get any scores last weekend, either.

Thanks for any info...
Norma

The only accessible player I know of is from IRTI, and costs $29.95 via
download; $59.95 if you want them to ship you the install CD. Although you
can use it just fine with JAWS running, it has its own voice, and works best
in that mode, so when you bring up the program, it is best to put JAWS to
sleep by either exiting JAWS, or better yet, putting JAWS to sleep with the
insert key space bar, then s.

Here is the link to all the info. You will for sure want the instruction
manual, which IRTI can give you, also by download or email attachment.
I have the software, and it works just fine. It also gives you direct
access to picking the audio described track if one exists on the DVD.

Hi, I am looking for a program that is jaws friendly, and accessible, I will
play movies on DVD. I am just 16 and Windows 8. I want to be able to
navigate the menus, as some of my DVDs are TV shows, and I want to be able
to select episodes. Thank you. I am using jaws 16 and Windows 8.1.

Re: [JAWS-Users] saving an attachment or picture sent as an attachment

You didn't say what email client you're using. If Outlook 2010, place focus
on the attachment and hit the applications key. Hit enter on Save attachment
or save as, then proceed from there.

Hi guys, Can anyone send me instructions for saving a picture sent as an
attachment? I thought I had the directions but when I just went back to
retrieve them they weren't there.

[JAWS-Users] Problem with Jaws Find in FS Reader

2015-04-19 Thread The Iowa Gal
Hi list,

I'm using Jaws 15 with FS Reader 3.0. In attempting to use the Jaws Find
command in a DAISY text-only book, Jaws puts me at the beginning of the book
no matter what word I am trying to find. I am searching within the document
pane with the window maximized. Unloading and restarting Jaws does not help,
nor does closing and restarting FS Reader. I never had such a problem with
FS Reader 2.0 and, frankly, I am regretting upgrading to 3.0.
Can someone help me resolve this issue or, lacking a solution, is it
possible for me to revert to FS Reader 2.0?

Thanks much,
Norma
