Re: [JAWS-Users] ANTI VIRUS PROGRAM WITH JAWS?

2016-10-23 Thread Aran_A

Hi Mike,

I installed and activated Panda with no problem. Now my PC is protected.

But, today when I tried to schedule a scan, I could not find the OK button.
My daughter clicked on the OK for me, and now I have a weekly scheduled
scan. I did not try very hard to find the OK button, but possibly it is not
accessible.

Originally I just setup the protection, but before today I never tried to
scan the PC.

I believe that due to the good protection of the Panda Free Antivirus, it is
worth checking it and deciding if it accessible enough for you or not,
especially if you have someone that can help you once to click on the OK
button to schedule the scan (daily, weekly or monthly).

Best wishes,

Aran

Way back before 2004 or so it was very accessible, I used it from 1990 until

before printing, Norton in 1990 at lease made me able to recover every fil
about 200 pages of printing. That was before Symantec took over the
program.

Maybe you don't have a virus; your malware, if you have any, could be
something else.

Try running AdwCleaner. Each time you want to run it, you need to
re-download it as it doesn't install on your computer.

It is totally accessible, and will identify tons of stuff.

It will put them in categorized lists that you can browse. Uncheck anything
you don't want it to remove.

You will probably have eight tabs or so of stuff--things it finds for each
browser, files, programs, registry entries, etc.

https://toolslib.net/downloads/viewdownload/1-adwcleaner/

It is completely accessible with any screen reader I've tried with it.

I like AVG. I've had good success with it but some have had problems,

personal experience that it is not very effective. Had one computer that

For many years I have been using eset nod 32. My license will expire in less
than 2 weeks. Although I am leaning towards renewing for another 3 years, is
there an advantage with the microsoft products for a win 32 bit machine. A few
years ago I had a problem and a support person from eset was on the phone with
me for a few hours cleaning the machine. Something got into my machine and
corrupted the registry. It did not show up as a virus with any scan. My local
weather page was being directed to a porn site.
Does microsoft have similar support?

2012-03-01 Thread Damien O'Connor
Hi everyone.

I've been following this thread. I use windows 7, jaws 11 and avast
anti-virus. I'm not having any problems with avast but just wondered if it
would be worth my while changing to Microsoft. Are there any advantages or
should I stick with what I've got?

Thanks in advance

Damien.

Kathy, I use MSSE and have been happy with it. I also purchased the pro
version of malwarebytes. When I bought my new Windows 7 computer at Staples
in December, the salesman was doing lots of upselling at the checkout. He
asked what I use for an antivirus program. I figured he would tell me MSSE
was not a good choice, but he didn't. I didn't buy any of the multiple
things he wanted me to buy. If I had it would have cost more than the
computer itself! MSSE and malwarebytes both work well on this computer with
JAWS 13.

I use MSE on 4 computers with no problems. Even my lab computer has
it installed and that comp goes where no one dares go on the Internet
just to find viruses to play with. i still have no problem with MSE.
The others I wouldn't even bother with, because I feel if a virus or
spyware program can not tell a system file from virus or spyware.
Then its not doing its job at all!

[JAWS-Users] Anti-virus program that works well with JAWS

2011-08-09 Thread Alan Dicey

Hello,
I also am using AVG, the paid version, which I purchased On Sale at
Staples, cheaper than the price on the AVG web site.

What I like about the paid version is that it also contains an anti-malware
feature and also often the definitions are updated 3 times a day, and at
least 2 times a day.

It is very JAWS friendly if you route JAWS to PC.
And that is not a problem for me.

However, you may also use Avira; there is a free version as well and it

I like Avast because it verbally tells you when it has updated but when I
get my laptop working again might try the Microsoft programme.

Hi.

I would highly recommend microsoft security essentials. its a free
download and very light on resources. i found AVG to be resource intensive
when reviewing it though that was a while ago. Avast is also very
reliable. I would try microsoft security essentials first. links to both
are below.

Hope this helps and sorry if i'm repeating what's already been mentioned,

2011-08-08 Thread john R. Vaughn
Mark and all, I am a comcast.net customer and get norton included free. And
as mark noted, you have to use the jaws cursor to help you make this all
work for you.Norton, though not the most jaws user friendly, can work
for you. That said, before Commcast offered this free add on, I used
another free anti virus/security program and it could also work if you used
the jaws cursor to help you navigate the site.
So always try and be flexible. Not the best of things but better than
nothing.

Pardon me but I use Norton 360 and JAWS 12 on all my computers. It
requires using the JAWS cursor and the simulated left mouse click to
activate different items. However, it is possible to make it work great.

Everyone,
Thank you all so much for your suggestions. I think I will try Microsoft
security essentials. Some suggested I also add malwarebytes for additional
protection. Will running those two programs on the same computer cause
conflicts/problems?

And though Norton internet security ran alright unattended I had
difficulties using any of its features because it was not that Jaws
friendly.

Yeah. Microsoft security essential is very good endiid.

However, you may also use Avira; there is a free version as well and it
works great with Jaws.

Hope that helps.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Making Avast More Accessible

Hi all, please accept my apologies for the duplicate posts, however I feel
that the more people that get the below instructions, the better. So here
we

go.

Hi all, do the following two things to make Avast more accessible.
Configuring Avast to not use the skins for the simple user interface:
1. Start Avast.
2. Wait for the memory test to be completed, then close the web page that
appears. You should now land on a dummy check box.
3. Press the applications key to open a context menu, down arrow to
settings

and press enter. The Programme Settings dialogue box appears, with the
categories tree gaining focus.
4. Tab until you hear, enable skins for simple user interface check box
checked. Press space to uncheck it.
5. Tab to ok and press enter. You'll land back on the dummy check box.
6. Close and restart Avast. You should now be able to tab through the
controls in this programme.
Configuring JAWS to read lists in Avast:
1. Make sure that you're focused on the Avast Simple User Interface.
2. Press JAWS key 6 to open Configuration Manager.
3. Press enter to accept the New Configuration File dialogue box.
4. Press alt s to open the set options menu, then press a. The advanced
Options dialogue box appears.
5. Shift tab till you hear, Rely on MSAA for List Views check box not
checked. Press space to check it.
6. Press enter to activate the ok button.
7. Either press control s to save your configuration file immediately, or
press alt F4, pressing enter to activate the yes button on the confirm
dialogue box.
By doing these steps, you'll resolve an issue on some machines whereby
JAWS

stops speaking when focused on any of the lists in Avast.

Hi, for a complete scan, check all local disks, check archives, move the
slider to 100% (thorough scan), and click start. Hope that helps.

Hi all, please don't worry about messages like that. It just means that
Avast couldn't scan the files in that archive because it was password
protected. What you can do is tab to the action button, hit space on that,
arrow to delete, press enter, ensure that delete file(s) permanently is
checked, activate the delete button, enter on that, and the results should
refresh with the new data. Don't worry; I don't think it deletes the
archives found to have been locked, but I'm not sure about that one.
I'll

check this out. Hope that helps.

I dislike comments like the one below. I have used norton since the
days of Norton utilities for DOS, and have had no problems. It is kind
of a resource hog at times, but many of them are. If you have a system
that has less than 1 GB of RAM, you will notice significant sluggishness
when Norton is doing a scan, so you just schedule the scan for the
middle of the night, or some time when you are not using the machine.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] anti-virus software compatible with JAWS

 Hi, folks-
Question first:Can anyone recommend an anti-virus program that is
compatible with JAWS besides AVG 8.0? I am using JAWS 7.0 and want
more coverage than the free version of AVG, which recently let in a
virus which reeked havoc on my laptop . I am willing to pay for a
program, but lost
confidencein AVG and don't want to purchase coverage from them at
this
 time.

 Thanks, Erin

Re: [JAWS-Users] anti-virus software compatible with JAWS

2009-03-05 Thread Chris Hallsworth
My comment is that you got a virus because AVG free only offer *basic* virus
protection. Note the basic there. With AVG Internet Security you have
complete virus/spyware/rootkit protection. So to me you should give it
another try (a 30 day free trial is available). Up to you of course, but
with AVG Free you only get basic protection and I'm not sure if people
actually realize that.

2009-03-05 Thread Erin Pruitt
Andy- Are you currently using the full package of Norton? I was looking at
purchasing that, and have found it priced anywhere from $16.99-39.99. I'm not
sure if I have to by it directly from Symantec or if I can purchase it for a
cheaper price elsewhere. Also, do you know off-hand how to check how much RAM
is available. I learned that once but haven't used that command enough for it
to have stuck in my brain.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] anti virus program.

Hi, all
I am using ABG free for my PC. Question is how many anti virus program you
can use? Can you add several programs to protect yourself from virus? If so,
make suggestions of other anti virus program that work with jaws 10. PS are
the scripts for jaws 10 and AVG free 8?

Kind Regard

Re: [JAWS-Users] anti virus program.

2008-11-15 Thread Chris Hallsworth
You can't have more than one antivirus installed and running on one
computer, however you can install antispyware and other forms of protection.
I have AVG 8 Free here and Super Antispyware Free Edition. AVG 8 is pretty
much accessible out of the box and is easy to use once you understand the
slightly strange interface.

Re: [JAWS-Users] anti virus program.

2008-11-15 Thread Rick Justice

Hi Fiallo,
You can have only one resident anti-virus program, on your machine,
however, you should be able to perform a virus scan over the internet.
There are several of these available, such as TrendMicro's housecall, but
you will

need to disable your current anti-virus before running one of these scans.
More info can be found from which ever site you choose.
I would stick with a reputable site.
HTH,
Rick Justice
