In family view the names of the parents are now a light blue. I think
I caused this when I tried to sent the direct line to bold. I think I
did this by going to toolsset direct line as preferred.

Could someone tell me how to change the names back to the darker blue.

 Thank you,

Because I'd heard about the weird font on Family View I'd skipped an

I see that Husband and Wife's names (with the new update) are now in my

What on earth do you mean? A font is a set of glyphs that governs the
visual appearance of a set of characters. Principally, this encompasses
both the alphabet and typeface used.

I would guess that you're actually referring to the size of the
characters being displayed. In which case, hover the mouse pointer over
the background until the status message in the bottom left corner says
'Right click for Options Menu'. Do what it says and up will pop a menu
from which 'Zoom lists...' will tell you what is being used.

Changing the size from/to Automatic and adjusting the window size will
sometimes coerce the window to behave itself. Otherwise, simply go to
the Customise window, select the Fonts tab and set the options the way
you would like.

I'm sure Sherry will be along once morning has broken in her part of the
USA, to tell you to delete one or other of the .USR files. :-)

color for the Husband and Wife Name also changes color and the Name

The background color and text color for the Children is ok.

[LegacyUG] Formatting not sticking on citation comments?

2010-04-26 Thread Scott Hall
Has anyone else noticed that if you enter comments in the citiation
comments section and then apply formatting (such as italics), the next
time you use that citation, the formatting is reset?

To replicate:
Enter data, enter source, add comments in source detail comments.
Format comments. Select Add these comments ... Save.
Enter data on differnet line, add source, note in comments formatting
is removed.

This should not occur. If I am replicating a source, including
comments (used to enhance citiations), the replication should be
exactly as I first entered it.

I'll add to the troubleshooting report if others see this. I don't
know if this is limited to the latest build.

[LegacyUG] Another search question

2010-04-26 Thread Scott Hall
Given the discovery that formatting on the source comments doesn't
stick, I want to verify that all formats I intended are proper.

However, I can find no way to search for all records where there is a
comment in the source detail comments section. I'm not looking for
any particular comment, just any comment.

I continue to be frustrated by what seems to be Legacy's restrictive
search capabilities. This is my second genealogy program, and I do
not recall having these types of search issues with the former program
(Sierra's Generations, no longer published). I appreciate that the
nature of the database may be to blame, but the above question is a
perfect example of something that seems to me a search I should able
to do.

So, how to perform this search: Find all individuals where detail
source comments are not null (blank).

Thanks for guidance with my specific question and any comments on

To replicate:
Enter data, enter source, add comments in source detail comments.
Format comments. Select Add these comments ... Save.
Enter data on differnet line, add source, note in comments formatting

This should not occur. If I am replicating a source, including

7.4.0.38 also.

Here's an additional discovery that's odd ...

If I open the Edit the Source Detail text box, the formatting is
gone ... even in the box I just applied it to. The output preview does
not show the formatting either. If I do not save it, and return to
the Assigned Sources for: screen, under the tab Text/Comments, the
formatting is applied and correct. I closed and reopened the program,
but still get the same result.

Can you try again to replicate?

I'd sent an attachment to show you, but its against the mail list rules.

I can replicate that, but I wonder if it might be intentional. I know
there is a certain amount of formatting built into citations.

I think we need a comment from Support Brian on this one.

waited for quite a while before trying to close, as the program was not

when I reopened the Legacy program I had to resize the screen.

Sorry Brian, I can't.

It's just one of those things which I picked up when learning the ins and
outs of Windows years ago. However, I can assure you that this has also been
my experience over many years. I am regularly resizing, mainly after using
the Windows split screen, and whilst some programs seem to do the resizing

[LegacyUG] X vs. File|Exit (was something else)

2010-04-26 Thread Dennis M . Kowallek
I’ve always believed that the Window gadget “X” makes the same calls as
“File/Exit”. Can you cite any reference to MS saying different.

It depends on how they are programmed. One application where they
apparently don't do the same thing is Firefox.

As a general rule of thumb, applications that can only run as a single
window SHOULD BE PROGRAMMED to exhibit the same behavior for each of
these events. Whether they have been is another question.

***

To answer Leo's question ... Legacy probably only saves the window
location/dimensions when it is shut down properly. If he changed
something, then ran Set Relationships and had to kill Legacy, the
settings never get saved. Anyway, that's my guess using the minimal info
Leo provided.

I'll back you up on that one, Ron. From memory, the various methods of
causing the program to terminate, generate different commands within the
program. These then can cause termination of the program via different
code paths in the program, depending on how they have been coded. Thus,
it is quite possible for the Windows Close button (the red X in the top
right corner) to cause termination by the quickest possible route,
avoiding any actions that might work against that aim.

You'll have to take whatever Millennia says as gospel on this one. If
they say it doesn't matter how you terminate the program, then it
doesn't matter. Ken?
