Hal, While it's a kludge, you could compile each manual to a PDF, put them in a directory, say /LyX/manuals/, then use pdfgrep to search them: PDFGREP(1)Pdfgrep Manual PDFGREP(1) NAME pdfgrep - search PDF files for a regular expression SYNOPSIS pdfgrep [OPTION...] PATTERN [FILE...] pdfgrep [OPTION...] [-e PATTERN | -f FILE] [FILE...] DESCRIPTION Search for PATTERN in each PDF FILE and print matching lines. By default, PATTERN is an extended regular expression. pdfgrep tries to be mostly compatible with GNU grep with some PDF-specific distinctions and additional options. Most notably, -n prints page instead of line numbers. A very useful tool. Regards, Rich -- lyx-users mailing list lyx-users@lists.lyx.org http://lists.lyx.org/mailman/listinfo/lyx-users

Any way to add child document's appendix to end of main document?
Hi, I use several child documents (using input). I would like to have it such that if I specify an appendix section inside a child document that section will be added on (to end or beginning) to the end of the main appendix in the parent document when I compile everything. I'm not sure if it's relevant, but note that I use knitr inside the appendix section in the child documents. Best. Scott

I also decided to try and recreate the problem by building a new parent doc, which did recreate the problem, but I couldn't find the actual cause, despite doing it little by little, but suddenly it started working correctly after a few days. The only significant feature I can recall having changed was that the chapter title for the first appendix had a blue underline (I think I used an american dictionary, but changed it to british - so it treated it like a different language?) I removed that text and rewrote it so it no longer had the blue underline. Now appendices all render fine as PDF. Coincidence? Perhaps. Bizarre, definitely but anyway, it is no longer a problem... The child docs do not contain any appendix information - it should all be set by the parent. The thing is that LyX treats it correctly, and within LyX everything looks perfect. The child documents all say Appendix, and have the correct Appendix value, the TOC is all correctly labelled with the appropriate appendices. It is only the resulting PDF that is incorrect. The PDF that is generated by LyX says chapter instead of Appendix, and the TOC of the PDF is labelled incorrectly. I am using MacTEX 2012, so I assume that should all run properly

Appendix issue
Hi, I am working on my PhD thesis using LyX 2.0.5 on OS X 10.8.2, and the weirdest thing is happening with my appendix. I have set up the appendix region (using start appendix here) and included the appendix files in my parent document. The TOC outline and the Navigator see them perfectly, and title them correctly as Appendix A Appendix B Appendix C etc. - wonderful However when I render the document as a PDF, they all get renamed to Chapter, all except the first appendix - which still retains the title Appendix A. Even if I put multiple appendices in just one lyx file, it still keeps the name Appendix A for the first appendix but changes every later one to chapter. Any thoughts as to what is going on?

PDF appendix header and footer
Hi! I'm adding PDF appendix to one article without success. What I have been able to do so far: a) I have minipage and one pdf page as graphic. Headers and footers OK. b) I have all PDF pages nicely put each page on its own page No header or footers. I tried to scale pdf down, but no headers. c) I have all three. Import inside a minipage, have all pages stacked over each other on one page and headers and footers are showing beneath. Option a) is impossible as work to import each page separately would take too much time. Option b) looks bad. Option c) is unusable. The problem with that PDF is its margin. I'm unable to have fancyheaders and PDF file on same page. Now. How do I import pdf document as external material and have it look like it should be on these pages and doesn't look like someone printed also that and put it same pile with my article? Is this common problem or am I trying to do something stupid? best regards, Hannu Vuolasaho

The appendix is relatively short, only 2 parts with 1 and 2 pages, respectively. In my opinion they're more trouble than they're worth. You know, since you have only one appendix and you're not really using it like standard appendices, it might be easier to build the appendix line in a style in the layout or in ERT, use \phantomsection() to enable correct crossreferences, and \addtocontents so it gets shown in your table of contents. I think you'll have to use a little trial and error to get it to work just right, but it seems to me to be the most direct route. Elsevier Appendix numbering problem
Hi lyx users, I am coming up against a formatting problem when using the article (Elsevier) document class. Re: Appendix Woes
I'm pretty sure it's a LaTeX issue -- things look fine in Lyx, it's the rendered document that's a problem. I'm on Ubuntu 9.10, so I'll just defer judgment until I have time to upgrade. Rob Oakes wrote: Hi Tim, This may be a LaTeX issue and thus not specific to LyX. Or, it might be a LyX problem. It depends on where the screwy numbering is appearing. Are you seeing it when writing with the editor? Or is it showing up in your PDF? If it's the former, then there is a problem with article.layout file, and it has been fixed in the upcoming 2.0 release. If it's the latter, it's a LaTeX problem. I've seen it in both places. If it's a LyX problem, I'd just recommend that you ignore it. Layout problems can be fixed, but it's somewhat complicated. If you really want to take a stab at it, you can find some information about modifying section counters in this article: http://blog.oak-tree.us/index.php/2009/11/02/custom-lyx-nih If it's in LaTeX, that's slightly more problematic and you have a couple of options. The reason that the numbering is all screwy has to do with the way that the appendix counters are defined in article.cls. These have since been fixed in more recent versions. I ran into some problems when I was using the TeXLive 2007 in Ubuntu. In 10.04, they've updated the packages to TeXLive 2009 and this particular problem resolved itself (in addition to a host of other annoyances). The first solution, then, is to update your LaTeX distribution. The instructions for this depend on your platform and which distribution you're using. If you're using Ubuntu Linux (and you really should be, because it's generally awesome), they will be updated automatically when you move to 10.04. If that isn't an option, the alternative is to use a different document class. I'd recommend that you switch over to Koma-Script. Converting from article to scrarticle is usually fairly painless. It's converting from KOMA-Script to the standard classes that really messes things up. The final option is to simply redefine the counters by hand. But that, like modifying layout files, can be painful and I'll allow you to discover the secrets via Google. Hope this is of some help. Hi Tim, This may be a LaTeX issue and thus not specific to LyX. So for instance, in English that command might yield "Appendix", whereas in German it might yield "Anhang" (I used a translator, don't laugh too hard). I'm pretty sure there's an equivalent LaTeX command for "Chapter". Anyway, perhaps your command for Appendix is blank. Meanwhile, I don't know exactly how you'd put "Appendix A" on the same line as the appendix's title, because an appendix is basically a chapter and the Book document class puts "Chapter 6" on the line above "Why LyX is the Best". Maybe there's some package that will do this for you. SteveT Steve Litt Recession Relief Package http://www.recession-relief.US Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/stevelitt

How can I achieve this? Thanks, Rainer -- NEW GERMAN FAX NUMBER!!! Rainer M. Krug, PhD (Conservation Ecology, SUN), MSc (Conservation Biology, UCT), Dipl. Phys. I solved my problem by inserting ERT just before the appendix starts: \renewcommand{\theequation}{A.\arabic{equation}} \setcounter{equation}{0} However, I would still like to do this with the features of Lyx, if possible. Thanks, EK
equation numbering in an appendix
I am using an article document class, and have equations in the body of the article and in the appendix. I would like the equations to be numbered sequentially, and the numbering restarted in the appendix and appear as: A1, A2, etc. How do I do that? I tried the various suggestions on the archive, but none worked. I do not really want to number all the equations by section, as provided in 1.6.5 by the new modules (that got the appendix equations to appear as .1, .2 etc.). Thanks, EK
Re: Appendix - include/insert
Hej Sølvi, I think I see what you mean: Insert> File > LyX document removes the inserted appendix. But if you inset something (e.g. a non-breakable space) before inserting the file it seems to work. Also note that you can't have e.g. chapter styes in the appendix). I hope this was of some help. /Anders On 22 dec 2009, at 10.22, solvi.natl...@uis.no wrote: > Hi > > I have four appendices which I have created on individual .lyx files. Re: adding appendix before Bibliography
OK, The appendix box was a red herring as this wasn't what I wanted and removing [titletoc] from the load package line seems to let it work. Well, in that case, I think you need to redefine part of the chapter thing. The part you want is this, which I've just copied from book.cls: \d...@schapter#1{\typeout{#1}% \l...@secnumber\@empty \d...@toclevel{0}% \ifx\chaptername\appendixname \...@tocwriteb\tocappendix{chapter}{#1}% \else \...@tocwriteb\tocchapter{chapter}{#1}\fi \chaptermark{#1}% \addtocontents{lof}{\protect\addvspace{1...@}}% \addtocontents{lot}{\protect\addvspace{1...@}}% \...@makeschapterhead{#1}\@afterheading} You can put this, with your changes, into ERT right before the appendix starts. If you just enclose the \typeout{#1} part in whatever you want to use to center it, that should do. rh

appendix tables with endfloat
Hi, I'm writing a paper that requires tables be placed at the end, and I do that using the endfloat package. My problem is that I also want to include a couple of tables labeled as Table A.1 and Table A. 2. I've tried creating an appendix at the end of the paper with \appendix followed by a \setcounter command, but this causes all my tables to be labelled as A.1, A.2, A.3 etc. Is there a way to keep the numbering of the text tables as 1,2,3 etc followed by A.1, A.2?

So, I have already written my document (which is more than 50 pages if I remember well) in which the majority is Greek text but there is a _not_ so small part of english (commands and command outputs) spreaded all over the document. So I don't think anybody (from the perspective of an end-user), would sit-down and mark&(re)define the text (no matter if seeting the language to Greek and marking English or the opposite). Well, you might say that this is my mistake. Accepted. But I don't see this as an option now. Redefining only the \xnames is enough for me. It works. Well, I might need to re-define the "Cross-references" as well. (BTW, can I re-define the cross-references the same way I did with the others?). In future I will be more careful now that I know that and I'll act accordingly. > > > Impossible... or can this be "filtered" > > with some find & replace actions? > > Not from within lyx.
