Re: Hims Braille Edge - braille quality
Hi Chris, I find the braille quality on the Edge to be very good. It's not as sharp as some, but sharp enough, I would say. As for durability, well it's as durable as any device made out of plastic is going to be. :) I don't have the Executive Products case, and I do find that I'm careful with it when carrying it around. One thing I'd mention, is check it out before you buy if you can. One thing I find awkward is the placement of the function keys. To use them, I sort of have to scrunch my hand in a way that's kind of awkward. You do get used to it, but that would be one of my primary criticisms of the unit. Ah, I see. I have a braille note. So I’m familiar with how that feels. I also have a Brailliant display which feels exactly like the display on the Apex. Re: Hims Braille Edge - braille quality
Hi, The cells on the brailledge are very round. The ones on the apex or brailliant displays are sharper, but not nearly as sharp as the ones on the alva bc6 series. The backdrop of the hims cells is the roughest I've touched, but despite that, the roundness of the dots makes it one of the most comfortable for me. If I could get a new display, the brailleedge would be a very tempting upgrade. I think I might still prefer the vareo ultra because of the multi-device support, but the brailleedge is nice. What you like in a braille display is completely subjectinve. What feels right to me may not feel right to you. If you can get some displays to hold before you buy, that would be your best bet. Re: Some Success with Calendar on the Mac.
Hello Tim. Step by step process as follows from memory. 1. Open the calendar. 2. Command N to bring up a new appointment. 3. Type, something like, Vets for guide dog (will not give her name), on 08 April at six p.m. 3. Press enter. 4. My new appointment is listed. So find the appointment, press Command E to edit. 5. Change desired information and add alert number 1. Choose one day before. Also here is where you can choose your travel time. When you get to that field on the I phone, recent locations are listed and its easy to choose. No such thing happens on the I phone. 6. Add second alert as there is a pop up button. As soon as I press that, there is no where to go. To the left there is the calendar table, to the right a vertical splitter. So can't do anything from then on and Voice Over kind of stops speaking so quit the process and do the rest using the I phone. Kawal. Re: Some Success with Calendar on the Mac.
I'm not having any problems entering all the information for calendar entries either. The problem I do have is with multiple calendars when I navigate through the events, some are not announced. I think I saw a post from someone else a while back confirming this kind of behavior. Nevertheless, it makes the calendar very suspect and not nearly as useful as it needs to be. I come from Outlook for Windows and have really transitioned completely to the Mac and am finding that it is quite lacking in some ways with regard to the calendar. Although it works well on the iPhone, it would be nice if it was a little more consistent and less quirky with VO on Mac OS. Re: updating adobe flash player on the Mac
They way I do it is as follows: download the latest flash player for mac by going to, www.get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ Follow the steps there to download the latest flash player .dmg file. Once downloaded, close all programs and then open the .dmg and run the installer app. That’s it. The systems preferences adobe update installer is inaccessible and is only good for notifying that a new flash player is available. If you have system prefs set to auto update flash, then when that update flash dialog pops up, simply cancel out of it and follow the manual steps I outlined above. Re: updating adobe flash player on the Mac
Hi, You need to Interact with the Helper area. It will tell you what’s going on in there. There’ll be a “Finish” button if all went well, otherwise, there could be error messages related to the need to quit any Flash kinds of software. When clicking buttons in this area, use VO-shift-space for the simulated mouse-click. You may also need to use VO-cmd-f5 to ensure that the mouse is focused on the button. HTH. Later... Re: A Newbie with Numbers
Hello, Thanks for your instructions. They worked well. Just to point out, I needed to access the insert menu and press the letter F to highlight the formula option. Re: Some Success with Calendar on the Mac.
Hi, I tested numerous times using various scenarios on my calendar on the Mac and did not experience anything like you’re mentioning. For me, this is how things went in general: • press cmd-n to create new event. • entered “Vet for Leader Dog Apr 10 at 2 pm” then press return. This automatically brings focus into the Info/Edit window for the new event. No need to locate it in the calendar. • VO-right to the Add Location item and put in an address. • activate the Alerts and Travel time button with VO-space. • modify anything that I wish modified, changing notification time etc. • close the Info/Edit event window and I’m back on the main page of the calendar. No issues at all for me. A couple of questions for your scenario: 1. Which view are you using? Day, Week, Month? I use Month view primarily. 2. QuickNav on or off? It’s off for me. 3. I’m guessing you have the Calendar list visible? Mine is hidden although visible or hidden didn’t make a difference. I don’t have multiple personal calendars but do have shared Google calendars, Birthdays and such all with their events mingled amongst my other self-entered calendar events with no issues. So, not sure where things are going amiss for you. Hmmm. Later... Hi, Not sure if there’s anything that will specifically say what the error is, but, I certainly could be wrong. I usually just press option-return on the cell displaying that error and look at the syntax and cell references. If you have a circular reference, that is, referring to the same cell that the formula is in, it will display that error for sure. There are likely other things like division by zero that may cause it as well, but, the circular reference is the only one I’ve seen first hand in testing. Later... I would simply add that on occasions I find that I have to use virtual mouse click, that is shift VO space on buttons for the install to proceed rather than VO space. Just another note. I had a problem yesterday updating Adobe Flash Player . No matter what I did the download kept freezing at 25 per cent . After beating my head against the wall for a couple of days , I tried temporarily disabling my anti -virus program and it finally worked . I noticed you also have to close your Safari browser also. Re: updating adobe flash player on the Mac
Hi, Two things to note here from my prospective. If your patient, and you have Flash set to update itself, it will actually do so. The problem is that it actually takes about 30 days to do so which may cause you grief if your browser is blocking the current Flash plugin. You can also use System Prefs to take you directly to the update page by going into the Flash System Pref, selecting the Advanced pane, interacting with the Scroll area, then pressing the “Check Now” button. If an update is available and you choose the “Update” button, you will be taken directly to the proper Adobe page to begin the update process. Later...
