Re: Login screen

2016-09-30 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

I've seen it happen before where it appears that the Guest is enabled in System
Preferences, but does not show up in the Login Screen. To fix this, go into
System Prefs, Users & Groups then click the lock to unlock the Users & Groups
pane. Navigate to the Guest user in the Users, Groups and Login Options list,
then navigate to the checkbox. Whether it is checked or not, VO-space on the
checkbox, then close System Prefs. If you go back into System Prefs again, it
should now be checked and should behave properly.

Later...

RE: Starting VoiceOver from the login screen.

2016-04-15 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Sadam,

Sorry my instructions weren't complete I thought you'd possibly know the other
bits.

So you go into users and groups,
Unlock it to make changes,
This is a VO right arrow to the far right of the options,

Click the lock and enter your admin password,
Then vo left to the far end find the log in drop down list, which I have to use
VO and Downarrow to scrole through the users,
Find the bottom option which should be log in then vo right to the option
towards the far right side which is a tick box saying something like
Enable VoiceOver to startup at log in.

Once you've ticked this, you can either click the lock again to lock things
from change or close out of the users and groups or restart and see if VO comes
on at the log in prompt.

Hoep that's a bit more clear rather than my last silly instructions.

Good luck .

Hi Sadam. This is Helga! How are you? I think you can turn on that settting of
Voiceover on Voiceover utilities under voices or speech settings if I'm not
mistaken! To go to voiceover utilities you need to press VO F8. Hope this
helps! I look forward in hearing from you soon. Thanks and God bless!

Starting VoiceOver from the login screen.

2016-04-14 Thread Sadam Ahmed
Hi all,

Got my new MacBook Air and in the process of getting it set up.

My question is how do I make VoiceOver speak at the login screen?

Not sure where it is under El Capitan.

Thanks for any answers.

Kindest regards,

Sadam Ahmed

Fitbit login screen on IOS?

2015-02-10 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi Gerry, just wondered how you got through the FitBit setup screen. I wasn't
able to input a lot of the info, and I also don't seem to be able to create a
login ID? Did you have any of these issues?
Thanks,
Donna

Having Voiceover speak on Yosemite login screen

2014-10-18 Thread Edward Green
Hi,

Apologies if this has been posted before, I’ve tried to check but the Yosemite
traffic has obviously been fairly busy.

I’ve enabled file vault after installing Yosemite, meaning that I need to enter
a password when I turn on my Macbook. However, Voiceover isn’t speaking on the
login screen.

Can I change this somewhere?

Thanks,

Ed

I just now upgraded to Yosemite, and VO worked through the launcher and at the

Re: Having Voiceover speak on Yosemite login screen

2014-10-18 Thread Joseph
Hello,
If you are booting with file vault the answer is no. Because VO cannot talk at
that low level. When you boot, Several seconds after the startup chime, press
Command F5 and you will hear a beep. Type in your account name. Note, nothing
will speak. Press enter and you will hear 2 beeps. Now type in your password.
The same thing, nothing will talk. Press enter and you will hear 3 beeps. This
means that you are now booting. Depending on how you have your system set, VO
will probably start talking once the system is booted.

Re: Having Voiceover speak on Yosemite login screen

2014-10-18 Thread Edward Green
Hi Joseph,

Thanks for this, that’s useful to know.

I’m the only one using this Mac (I disabled the guest account), so I’ll
probably just wait a few seconds and enter my password as I don’t have several
accounts to cycle through. VO does come on when I do. Alternatively, I might
turn off File Vault if it gets too annoying!

Cheers,

Ed

Turning on voice over on the login screen

Dear List, I have forgotten how you turn on voice over on the mavericks login

dim recollection of it being in users and groups but I can't find it anywhere.

Many Thanks, Lee

You have it right: Users and Groups, select Login Options from the table, and
find the checkbox for using VoiceOver at the login screen. You may need to
unlock the preferences with an administrator password first.

Re: Braille at login screen

2014-08-31 Thread Cheryl Homiak
I haven't tried it but I think you can just pull the usb plug and if necessary
go into voiceover utility braille and start it. That switch between usb and
bluetooth is really great; I would like to eventually see an upgraded model or
maybe an upgrade to the firmware that would allow one to switch between
bluetooth devices with the press of a button. Right now I have the Edge paired
with all my devices but this means that if one device unlocks temporarily just
to tell me how many notifications I have (it does this even though I don't have
notifications in locked screen; it still has to announce that I have them -
lol!) it stops my display with the i-device I am using and I have to lock and
unlock the i-device again. But I still prefer that to pairing again each time I
want to use a different device. But anyway, my bluetooth keyboards start up at
login but maybe there is some reason why a bluetooth braille display can't. If
I were you I would contact accessibility about this if you really can't use it
on bluetooth at login. When I get time, I will do some testing on this. I do
btw use a usb switch to switch my Braille Edge between my computers with usb
but that's more info than you wanted - no extra charge!

Re: Braille at login screen

2014-08-31 Thread Cheryl Homiak
I just tested this.
1. If you are using bluetooth, apparently you don't get your display up until
after login.
2. With the edge, you can log in with the display on usb and then switch to
bluetooth and the display should come up again just fine. It doesn't matter
whether or not you unplug the usb cable; once it is switched to bluetooth, usb
will be ignored.

u really can't use it on bluetooth at login. When I get time, I will do some
testing on this. I do btw use a usb switch to switch my Braille Edge between my
computers with usb but that's more info than you wanted - no extra charge!

Keyboard Layout Different in login Screen: How to Change?

2014-05-26 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, folks,

I have an Amazon Basics usB keyboard, which I use with my 2009 Mac Mini. Within
my user account, I switched two keys, so that the command key is next to the
spacebar and the option key is next to it. They are the other way around by
default. In the login screen, the keys revert to their default behavior. I'm
wondering if there's a way to change the keyboard settings for the login screen.

thanks,
Teresa

Amazon basics USB Keyboard Not recognized on Login Screen

2013-07-17 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, all,

Does anyone else have an Amazon Basics uSB keyboard? I have to use my Braille
display to log on, because the keyboard is not recognized. Sometimes it takes a
couple of minutes after I log in for it to kick in. Then I have to go into
keyboard preferences and change keyboard type.

This is strange, because when I first got the keyboard a couple of weeks ago,
it worked fine.

Any ideas?

Hmm,

I think this might be machine specific. I've restarted my MBP a number of
times now, and VO comes up at the log on screen with no issues.

Re: Voiceover on Login Screen in ML?

2012-07-30 Thread Chris Moore
Both of my machines always now speak on login, but when I upgraded my Macbook I
was not hearing speech at login. After selecting the option in System
Preferences and enabling function keys in the keyboard prefs, I was then able
to start VO at login by pressing command + F5 and turned up the volume as it
was down to zero. Since then it has worked every time.

Ricardo,

Also me too, on my 27in iMac and my Mini and Air, I get no issues, both Voice

I previously had Lion on all three machines and have only performed a straight
upgrade, not a clean install.

Hi Shen,

I haven't tried that. Probably worth it before I do a new install.

I don't think how this would afect VoiceOver, but then, stranger things have

It does look more and more like a new installation is needed.

Voiceover on Login Screen in ML?

2012-07-29 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, all,

ML has changed things a bit. Is there still a way to have Voiceover in the
login screen? I can't seem to find that option anywhere.

Thanks,
Teresa

Re: Voiceover on Login Screen in ML?

2012-07-29 Thread Rachel Feinberg
It should still be in system preferences under the users and groups setting.
Choose the log in options group and click the lock to enable making changes.
Then there'll be a check box to have voiceover start at the login screen.
Good luck,
rachel

Hi Teresa,

the option is in System Prefs under Users and login options, but checking it
doesn't same to make it work. I've written to Apple about this, you might want
to do so as well.

Re: Voiceover on Login Screen in ML?

2012-07-29 Thread Chris Moore
Donna,

I did at first have this issue on one of my Macs. After ticking the box in
login options for VO to kick in on login did not work for me. So I hit VO + F5
at login and turned the volume up and it worked.

I am going to assume you have already tried this.

One thing I have noticed though is when I awake my Mac from sleep and I am
greeted with the system dialog box to enter my username and password, I am
informed that i have 2 dialog boxes! So god knows where the other one is!

Hi Chris,

That's one of the weird things. Pressing those keys does absolutely nothing.
I'd say it was like the keyboard doesn't work, except that I am able to
interact with the user list, select myself, and enter my password.
Cheers,

RE: Voiceover on Login Screen in ML?

2012-07-29 Thread Shen
Hi Donna,
Have you tried changing your login screen from a list of users to just the
user name and password boxes?
I don't think how this would afect VoiceOver, but then, stranger things have
happened.
It does look more and more like a new installation is needed.

Re: Voiceover on Login Screen in ML?

2012-07-29 Thread Dan Roy
Oh good, I am geting that 2 dialogue box thing as well. I was hoping someone
else would have the problem. Since it doesn't seem to have another dialogue
once logged in, I have just ignored it as a weird glitch or something. But, it
would be better if it wasn't there at all.

Thanks, folks. I had forgotten that the login options were in a list and I kept
missing it. I checked the box and tried logging back in, and it works.

As far as I'm aware, VO-f5 simply describes the item in the VO cursor.

Thanks,
Teresa
