Re: Login screen
Hi, I've seen it happen before where it appears that the Guest is enabled in System Preferences, but does not show up in the Login Screen. To fix this, go into System Prefs, Users & Groups then click the lock to unlock the Users & Groups pane. Navigate to the Guest user in the Users, Groups and Login Options list, then navigate to the checkbox. Whether it is checked or not, VO-space on the checkbox, then close System Prefs. If you go back into System Prefs again, it should now be checked and should behave properly. Later... RE: Starting VoiceOver from the login screen.
Hi Sadam, Sorry my instructions weren't complete I thought you'd possibly know the other bits. So you go into users and groups, Unlock it to make changes, This is a VO right arrow to the far right of the options, Click the lock and enter your admin password, Then vo left to the far end find the log in drop down list, which I have to use VO and Downarrow to scrole through the users, Find the bottom option which should be log in then vo right to the option towards the far right side which is a tick box saying something like Enable VoiceOver to startup at log in. Once you've ticked this, you can either click the lock again to lock things from change or close out of the users and groups or restart and see if VO comes on at the log in prompt. Hoep that's a bit more clear rather than my last silly instructions. Having Voiceover speak on Yosemite login screen

Re: Having Voiceover speak on Yosemite login screen
Hello, If you are booting with file vault the answer is no. Because VO cannot talk at that low level. When you boot, Several seconds after the startup chime, press Command F5 and you will hear a beep. Type in your account name. Note, nothing will speak. Press enter and you will hear 2 beeps. Now type in your password. The same thing, nothing will talk. Press enter and you will hear 3 beeps. This means that you are now booting. Depending on how you have your system set, VO will probably start talking once the system is booted. Re: Having Voiceover speak on Yosemite login screen
Hi Joseph, Thanks for this, that’s useful to know. I’m the only one using this Mac (I disabled the guest account), so I’ll probably just wait a few seconds and enter my password as I don’t have several accounts to cycle through. VO does come on when I do. Alternatively, I might turn off File Vault if it gets too annoying! You have it right: Users and Groups, select Login Options from the table, and find the checkbox for using VoiceOver at the login screen. Re: Braille at login screen
I haven't tried it but I think you can just pull the usb plug and if necessary go into voiceover utility braille and start it. That switch between usb and bluetooth is really great; I would like to eventually see an upgraded model or maybe an upgrade to the firmware that would allow one to switch between bluetooth devices with the press of a button. Right now I have the Edge paired with all my devices but this means that if one device unlocks temporarily just to tell me how many notifications I have (it does this even though I don't have notifications in locked screen; it still has to announce that I have them - lol!) it stops my display with the i-device I am using and I have to lock and unlock the i-device again. But I still prefer that to pairing again each time I want to use a different device. But anyway, my bluetooth keyboards start up at login but maybe there is some reason why a bluetooth braille display can't. If I were you I would contact accessibility about this if you really can't use it on bluetooth at login. When I get time, I will do some testing on this. I just tested this. 1. If you are using bluetooth, apparently you don't get your display up until after login. 2. With the edge, you can log in with the display on usb and then switch to bluetooth and the display should come up again just fine. Keyboard Layout Different in login Screen: How to Change?

Amazon basics USB Keyboard Not recognized on Login Screen
Hi, all, Does anyone else have an Amazon Basics uSB keyboard? I have to use my Braille display to log on, because the keyboard is not recognized. Sometimes it takes a couple of minutes after I log in for it to kick in. Then I have to go into keyboard preferences and change keyboard type. This is strange, because when I first got the keyboard a couple of weeks ago, it worked fine. Any ideas? Re: Voiceover on Login Screen in ML?
Both of my machines always now speak on login, but when I upgraded my Macbook I was not hearing speech at login. After selecting the option in System Preferences and enabling function keys in the keyboard prefs, I was then able to start VO at login by pressing command + F5 and turned up the volume as it was down to zero. Since then it has worked every time. Chris On 30 Jul 2012, at 09:59, Ricardo Walker rwalker...@gmail.com wrote: Hmm, I think this might be machine specific. It should still be in system preferences under the users and groups setting. Choose the log in options group and click the lock to enable making changes.
