So when I was looking for my first car we went to this guy who owned a 
body shop that did paint and body work for big trucks and semis. He 
was also into MB. He had a 74 240d manny that was burgundy with a 
brand new paint job, very nice car. The other car he had was a white 
on red 76 300d. The next car we went to look at was a green on green 
76 300d. Lord I wish I would have bought that car. The 3rd car that I 
ended up buying was a 79 240d in Colorado beige. So, that is why I 
have a soft spot for green on green, white on red, and an early 123 
240d in Colorado beige.


Back to the truck body guy. He had a mini mb grave yard behind the 
body shop that may have contributed to me wanting to acquire parts 
cars. Several years after that I bought a vacuum pump off him for my 
grandmothers 240d. Many years after that I was there while working 
with Autotrader because they were listing some cars in the magazine to 
sell. It was the son running it then, told him about me dealing with 
his dad years earlier. Last time I was that way the shop is something 
else and no mb grave yard in the back.


So like poos has his bucket list cars, mine are green on green and 
white on red 115, and a Colorado beige early 123.

[Curley McLain via Mercedes]

In the docs office, i picked up a  july 17 issue of R mag.  (yeah, 
into da future!)   They were doing a comparison of several cars and 
while they had some good things to say about the MB they tested, they 
disliked the "rubber band tyres" and the resultant handling.  I was 
happy to see them trash the rubber band tars.

Smoke silver.   Front was good, rear was good.  got new rear springs and 
subframe mounts.


Tinworm got it, and then it got broadsided and then the vac pump puked 
its marbles into the chaincase.  Engine needs a cam and towers, chain 
and maybe lower guides.  Upper guides were  all new.


It is still the best running OM603 i've had!  N+And not near as rusty as 
what I have now!

run our fridge or freezer. Kinda loud, I'm thinking to mount a 4 wheeler pipe 
on it for additional quieting.

It’s an Onan 7.5 DJC.  It’s the 240D of generators.  No electronics, purely 
mechanical and relay.  I’ve seen these with 10,000 hours on them without a

sold to municipalities under the Civil Defense program in the 1960s.

It’s missing a muffler from what I can tell, unless there’s a little pepper pot 
under that sheet metal.  The exhaust manifold is directly behind those louvers,

That would be a heck of a generator if you’re looking for one.

It’s an Onan 7.5 DJC.  It’s the 240D of generators.  No electronics, purely 
mechanical and relay.  I’ve seen these with 10,000 hours on them without a 
rebuild.  Truly a cockroach generator if there ever was one.  Thousands were 
sold to municipalities under the Civil Defense program in the 1960s.

It’s missing a muffler from what I can tell, unless there’s a little pepper pot 
under that sheet metal.  The exhaust manifold is directly behind those louvers, 
so the exhaust is going up then making a right angle out the side of that sheet 
metal box.

The Tampa Tribune is defunct.  The only remaining daily in the area is the St. 
Pete Times, and it’s not doing all that great as far as print media.  They do 
well with their constant attention to the Scientologists in Clearwater, however.

Big dustup with Miscavich and friends recently:

The Xenu folks have been slowly taking over Clearwater’s downtown area.  They 
claim to be totally transparent in their dealings, but they’re not.  They just 
bought up a bunch of commercial properties using shell corporations over the 
last year and got busted doing so (by the Times, I might add.)

So the aquarium owns this prime piece of real estate right next to their 
beloved hotel where they board the Sea Org people and others. It’s worth about 
$4M in the current market.  The aquarium offers to sell it to the City of 
Clearwater a while back so they can do some things with it, as the aquarium 
needs bigger digs since they’ve cashed in big time with their crippled dolphin 
thing.

Scientology moves in and wants to buy it.  The aquarium says no, they want the 
City to have first dibs.  Miscavich and friends go to work…

They pitch all of the City council members individually in his office about the 
way they’ll resurrect the downtown area if they can buy this land. Yeah, right. 
 We’ve heard that before, haven’t we?

Then they go to the press about how they’re willing to offer the aquarium $15M 
for the property and if they don’t accept the offer the City and aquarium are 
screwing the taxpayers for not taking this massive windfall.

No dice.

So a week or two ago the City votes to purchase the property and the aquarium 
accepts their $4M offer.  Miscavich and friends are LIVID.

So the Thetan/Xenu attorneys all pile on and go to the State claiming all sorts 
of terrible wrongdoings on the part of the aquarium, and how they should be 
sanctioned for misusing taxpayer dollars, their director is a crook for being 
grossly overpaid, yada, yada, yada.

Crickets.

The aquarium does a very nice rebuttal in a very pleasant and positive manner 
in the Times the next day.  Game over, David M.

So what’s happening now?

When you’re in the area around the hotel and other Scientology venues in 
downtown Clearwater, you see literally hundreds of their members walking around 
in their getup, black pants, white shirt, gray vest.  These are Sea Org 
recruits stationed at the Fort Harrison (the hotel they own and is their 
headquarters.)  These people have virtually vanished from the streets.

Miscavich has ordered his followers to no longer patronize any business in the 
downtown area, so the word is.  This means that all the shops and restaurants 
in downtown Clearwater that were serving the church members are now hurting.

I’m not sure how long this will go on, but it will probably be a while.

Used cars are cheaper in Canada, and you can find plenty of late model Big 3 
cars on dealer lots with Canadian history, my next door neighbor's 2008 Escape 
was one of them. So it can be done, and economically, but I don't know how 
myself.

I think I have told this story before. A friend bought a 240D in Vancouver BC 
and drove it back to Winnipeg  a few years ago. He had trouble starting it in 
the mornings and replaced 2 or 3 glow plugs during the trip. On the last stop 
overnight he just left it there idling in the Holiday Inn parking lot all night.

My aunt bought a Caddy from a friend in Canada a few years back.
It was far more hassle and time (months) than she anticipated.
Might be easier if the car's over 25 years old.
Probably easier if you know what you're doing before you buy the car. 
And I can't remember, but the car might have been titled to the 
friend's dead mother and that might have been most of the trouble.

Nice.

I've spent plenty of time in BC, but not that far north. My travels 
extend to Whistler, the ski resort, Vancouver, Revelstoke, and 
Kamloops and and that's about it. I've been up to and slightly further 
north of Edmonton, AB, however. Guess I would just have to keep going 
west


Not to mention the hassle of getting the car across the border.

Re: [MBZ] W115 300D 1976 - neutral safety switch bypass

On the W115 the switch is on the side of the transmission where the shift rod 
goes in.

Cheap and cheerful fix is to pull the plug and stuff a wire in to jump the 
connection, but that will prevent the backup lights from working.

I don't know where the other connectors are.  On that car, you would have to 
pull the console to get to much of the harness, and I don't recommend that, you 
will very likely break things that cannot be replaced.
