I expect that it's geared such that it will be fine in town. Getting on the
freeway and keeping speed up hills might be an issue, but then there are no
hills in FL ???

Re: [MBZ] LED bulbs

2018-01-09 Thread Jim Cathey via Mercedes
Your son is correct. In addition to a slow falloff of the blue LED's
photon emission with use, the fluorescent phosphors that are part of all
white LED's fade with use, just like old fluorescents tubes whose phosphors
are excited by high-intensity ultraviolet that comes from an electric arc
through a low-pressure mercury vapor atmosphere. I believe it is a fairly
linear process. IIRC, end-of-life for LED's and fluorescents is defined as
50% or thereabouts.

LED's just last a lot longer than gas-discharge or incandescent lamps.

Re: [MBZ] Subject: Re: 49 Battery

2018-01-09 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
the 49 batteries are supposed to have a vent with a tube. I think only
once, I got the tube when I bought a battery. But most og the group 49
batteries did have the vent constucted to put a tube on so the acid/gas
can be conducted away from sheet metal.

To me the AGM batteries were not worth the $$$. Kinda like the other
stuff filipino boys put on the rice burners: Mushroom air cleaners,
neon lights under the car, coffee cans over the exhaust, jacking up one
end or the other with air bags, etc.

Ever have a car rust out near the battery tray?
That adds up in a hurry, and it's what a sealed battery is supposed to
prevent.

Degradation of LEDs exists, but as far as I know it's minor.
Degradation of the luminescent materials that are used to get white light from

Would work just the same. Make sure you get the bright set, not the cheap
stuff. The cheap stuff is not bright, and does need a flasher. The better
LED will likely have a built in resistor, so no need for flasher upgrade. Or,
they may also want a flasher if you are hoping to get reduced amperage.

I did it in the SL for a year. No great energy saving, and the lamps were low
candle power.

Alligators go snouts up in frozen pondsPublished: Tuesday, January 9, 2018

To survive cold winters, alligators allow their bodies to be frozen in
place with their noses and large teeth protruding from the ice.

The bizarre scene was filmed by a North Carolina swamp park after the "bomb
cyclone" sent chills across the coastline.

"Just hanging out in the water," says the narrator of the video
,
showing closeups of the snouts sticking through the ice. "Pretty amazing.
... Look at those teeth. This is the time of year when they are just
hanging out, waiting for it to get warm."

Alligators know when the water is going to freeze, so they enter a state of
brumation, or hibernation for reptiles. But not before they stick the tip
of their snout above the water just as it freezes around them.

The video, which was posted on Facebook by Shallotte River Swamp Park in
Ocean Isle Beach, has more than 200,000 views (Mark Price, *Charlotte

Because the Luscombe 8E is mildly aerobatic! Actually, you have "low and
slow" for fun scenic touring (Luscombe, Breezy), enjoying the evening,
etc., there is "high and fast" (Tailwind W10) for getting somewhere in a
hurry or racing, and there is the abililty to haul a load (Cessna 182).
Just like cars, no one aircraft fits all missions.

It will - but I have not seen any pre-manufactured LED lamps for
incandescent direct replacement. Those all seem to be neg ground.

But it would not be at all difficult to build one with a bridge

Re: [MBZ] Video: LED Installation and Common Issues – Moss Motoring

2018-01-09 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
I believe Moss meant that the LEDs fitted into sockets for standard
automotive light applications only are made in one configuration, with the
center contact(s) positive and the the outer body the negative lead.

If you "roll your own" sockets / LEDs, you could of course reverse the
polarity.

Another option might be to re-wire the bulb socket? That might be simple
enough for a brake light bulb that is separate from the turn signal bulb,
if you only wanted to convert the brake lights.

Re: [MBZ] Video: LED Installation and Common Issues – Moss Motoring

2018-01-09 Thread Dan--- via Mercedes
Micheal,

If you look on BenzWorld or any number of online forums, you’ll find numerous
threads on LED conversions. For that matter, I’m pretty sure there are people
out there selling kits with everything in them to do the conversion.

I’m a little confused by the comments on the Moss Motots Page, however. They
talk about the inability to use LEDs in a positive ground system. That doesn’t
make sense to me, as I would simply reverse the LED. I’m not sure why that
wouldn’t work

2018-01-09 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
That's a nice video, but I'm not familiar enough with a 123 wiring diagram
to be much use.

The 123 has separate indicators for the turn signals, which is a plus, but
the hazard switch / turn signal flasher set-up will need to be analyzed.

What is the quality of the LED bulbs that you are seeking, low current use
or brighter / faster?

"Fishtail" body style? Maybe the seller is not too familiar with the
marque?

Looks like a great basis for a project _IF_ the rust is not too bad.

This is a write up and video of how to install LED’s in an MG. I plan on doing

I would like to update it as well. Is there a similar write up for our older

Here's what Wiki say about AGM's FWIW:

"AGM & Gel VRLA batteries:
Have shorter recharge time than flooded lead-acid.
Cannot tolerate overcharging: overcharging leads to premature failure.
Have shorter useful life, compared to properly maintained wet-cell battery.
Discharge significantly less hydrogen gas.
AGM batteries are by nature, safer for the environment, and safer to use.
Can be used or positioned in any orientation.

Less regulations, lower build cost, higher sell price, and the buyers want them.
