[meteorite-list] Happy New Year

2009-01-03 Thread Bob Evans

Top all those concerned,
If you arent concerned please delete.

Iam in no way trying to start any arguments on this list.
But these people are way out of line.

Phil Whitmer wrote on 12/30/08 :
A respected and important member of the meteorite community checked out the
provenance of the last offerings on eBay by Bob Evans and they turned out to
be shady to say the least. It looks like Bob Evans was selling stones with
fake Monnig provenance according to his own source.

You people had better get your facts straight. I haven't sold anything that
came from Monnig in years. I think some of you people don't even know what
my ebay account is.

Here is my account :

[meteorite-list] AD- Catalog of the Antarctic Meteorites VERY Rare Book

2008-12-30 Thread Bob Evans

In excellent condition , NON - Library book and starting at one penny :

Catalog of the Antarctic Meteorites Collected From December 1969 to December
1994
with special reference to those represented in the collections of the
National Institute of Polar Research, Tokyo 1995

Author : Keizo Yanai

Link :
http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZmaccers531

It has:
230 pages
36 color photos
one map of Antarctica showing locations where meteorites where collected
a table giving locality names, abbreviations, latitudes longitudes for
areas where the meteorites were collected

a table describing the meteorite naming
22 pages of figures showing meteorite compositions in terms of pyroxene
quadrilaterals, anorthite content of feldspar, and fayalite content of
olivine

33 pages giving chemical analyses of about 600 meteorites
a table describing meteorite classification with two pages of notes
describing the table
about 120 pages of tabular material listing all meteorites, weight, class,
%Fa in olivine, %Fs in pyroxene, etc.

With the ever increasing population of meteorite collectors making books
like this more and more difficult to obtain,

It took me 4 years to get this book and I consider myself lucky to get one.

Also check out the colorful Type 3 NWA Chondrite up for auction .

Thanks for looking !

Greetings List Members,

It seems that a certain member in bad standing that continues to want to
advertise here who has cheated a number of unsuspecting members by both
not returning money to them after promising to do so and also
misrepresenting meteorite types as something rare when they are not. A
number of these victims wrote to me to thank me for posting my first email

Here are a few of the list archives indicating there are serious problems
with this creep. You can also go here to see for your self a number of the

I must warn the list of Bob Evans as well. I was supposed to receive a
$125 refund from Bob over a month ago and I still have not received my
money back, nor have I recieved a response from him after several email
and phone call attempts. Well, I checked his Ebay history a few days ago
and noticed that he had placed a $1500 bid on a meteorite not too long
ago, yet he cannot afford to return my hard-earned money back to me? Never
again! I warn everyone else not to do any business with Bob Evans. His
unprofessionalism is a joke.

Ryan

Well, Bob Evans just called me after reading my email to the list and he
was pissed-off as I had expected he would be.. nearly shouting at me
through the phone line. It doesn't look like I wil be getting a penny
back from him, so it looks like I'll have to use alternate routes to get
my money back. Sorry to everyone else who has to read this, but his
reaction to the situation is unacceptable. By the way BobI'm 22 years

On June 24, 2006 I posted to the list as a courtesy that I had been the

story...

After a year of trying to resolve the issue, it took me many more months
to conclude that he just wasn't going to respond.

I sent emails, Ebay emails, registered letters and confirmed delivery
letters, with no response from Mr. Evans. He had my piece and he wasn't
going to finish the trade.

I sued Bob Evans in Williamson County, Texas Court. It went to court on
October 19, 2006. Small CLaims suit #060094. He apparently tried to avoid
being served his lawsuit by the Will County Sheriff, but they served him
successfully. He did not respond to the suit, nor did he show in court.

He lost by default and now has a judgment of $4,800 against him. He now
joins Mr. Casper in the hall of Shame.

Its my character flaw to be an overyly trusting guy. I have traded with
people from South Africa to West Texas, Poland to Alaska. Never had a
problem. On the whole the average meteorite fan is a fair, wholesome,
science loving, respectable person. I encourage all of you to trade with

[meteorite-list] Ad- Monnig, Aml and other goodies just in time for xmas

2008-12-10 Thread Bob Evans

Well,
After taking off several months of Dealing meteorites, I can stay away no
longer.

I have some very nice offerings available over the next few weeks.

I was fortunate enough to purchase another small collection of meteorites
with some very unique meteorites ( some I never heard of ).
Most of these have Monnig and AML Cards accompanying the specimens. So you
will not need to ask me where or who I got them from ( you will NOT get an
answer ) I keep my methods of acquisitions and contacts confidential.

Here is a partial list :

Mckinney Texas
La Lande N.M.
Plainview
Ness Co. Kansas
Sandia Mountains N.M.
Ladder Creek
Adrian Texas
Romero Texas
Morland Kansas
Noreatur Kansas

Some of these meteorites have an appointment with my saw.

I am offering these meteorites to a preferred list of collectors.
If you are interested in any of these please email me letting me know which
ones that you are interested in. I will be offering these to you first.
A copy of each corresponding collection card will be included with each
purchase.
It will take me a couple of weeks to get the meteorites processed but I
wanted to give you a heads up.

I have also just received two new beautiful type 3 chondrites. I got a great
deal on these and I will be selling them far less than $15 / gram

They will be submitted for classification.
Also be on the lookout for a large slice of Zagami and more that enough
Juvinas to put a huge smile on your face. Both with impeccable provence (
that is the politically correct way to say it, right ?)

Hey Mike,

Thanks for causing alot of problems for me.
Did it ever occur to you that I wasnt willing to give you my sources name
because I was in the process of trying to obtain more meteorites,

and I didnt need to compete with everybody else, including you ?
Why dont you try asking Mike Farmer or the Hupes for the Moroccan names and
phone #s. Good luck.
Everything I ever sold you was up front nothing to hide. Now you come along
with this.
Why dont you send it to an accredited lab and see what they have to say
instead of attacking me.
Thats also pretty lame of you seeing as I told you that Im dealing with a
parent who is in the hospital with blood clots in her lungs and I would deal
with you later.

Just so everyone should know. I have asked atleast one other dealer ( who
sells many rare items on ebay ) for information on their supplier or
provenance to just have my numerous inquiries go unanswered. So, why am I
being singled out ?

As far as jackass MCcartney Taylor , I gave the idiot planetary and
achondrite for his chondrite and the moron sued me. Oh, he lied about not
receiving my meteorites in court. How do you like that IMCA ?

Hi List,

That's shill bidding and it's a violation of eBay
rules.

Turn him in and get his account suspended/deleted.

People like that make us all look bad.

If you have proof that his friend is shill bidding,
then turn it over to eBay Fraud and let's remove this
guy from the eBay playing field.

Not that eBay will do anything of course, but you
never know.

MikeG

Oh its legit alright.
However you will have to bid over $6 K to have a
chance getting it.
Mike Farmer and I had the displeasure of meeting this
guy on Winslow
St.
Thanks to this guy Mike had to shell out an extra
$1000 ? to make a
purchase
from Kaskos just like he says in the auction
description. Mike and I
were
buying a few hundred grams and then this guy came
along and started a
bidding war right on the guys porch.

The reason I say it will be over $6 K is that the last
two times he had
it
on ebay he had a friend bid on the side to keep the
price where he
wanted
it. He wasn't exactly shy about it.
So if you see it sell for under 6 thousand he will
keep it and put it
back
up for auction at a later date.

Good luck !

You know what is hilarious, that guy got into a fight
with me and the owner of the Winslow St. specimen. He
kept bidding against me (no problem, that is what
America is about) but his argument was that I was an
evil dealer who was going to sell it and make money
while he wanted to keep a piece for his kids and for
saving history. He kept telling the homeowner that I
was scamming them, which was funny since I kept
bidding higher than him, so I am not sure what that
logic was supposed to prove. Obviously he wants to
make money now. So who is the evil dealer?
These people are such hypocrites.

--- Bob Evans [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Oh its legit alright.
However you will have to bid over $6 K to have a
chance getting it.
Mike Farmer and I had the displeasure of meeting
this guy on Winslow St.
Thanks to this guy Mike had to shell out an extra
$1000 ? to make a purchase
from Kaskos just like he says in the auction
description. Mike and I were
buying a few hundred grams and then this guy came
along and started a
bidding war right on the guys porch.

The reason I say it will be over $6 K is that the
last two times he had it
on ebay he had a friend bid on the side to keep the
price where he wanted
it. He wasn't exactly shy about it.
So if you see it sell for under 6 thousand he will
keep it and put it back
up for auction at a later date.

Good luck !

[meteorite-list] Current and future meteorite market

2008-03-17 Thread Bob Evans

Hello List,

I don't believe that this is discussed nearly as much as it should be
discussed. I'm primarily a collector , occasionally a dealer and I'm curious
where my meteorite investments currently are and where they are headed.
I don't sell nearly enough volume or to a large enough market to have a good
grasp on the current conditions and future expectations of the meteorite
market.

I'm curious to hear from the dealers overseas just as well.
Is your clientele expanding? exponentially ? How are sales? Supply? Trends
?You get the picture.

It would behoove us all that are investing substantial amounts of money to
periodically examine the market.

BTW- I know Michael Blood does a fine job with his Meteorite Market Trends
article, but I would like to get more than his perspective.

Any comments ?

Thanks,

Re: [meteorite-list] First call for alcohol.

2008-03-06 Thread Bob Evans
I don't understand where the problem is with using water as a coolant. I
have been cutting meteorites in water for years with no problems.
Just pop the meteorites in an oven ( which I have right next to my saw )
right after they are cut. No Rust.

Using alcohol seems like an unnecessary risk.
What's the deal with the new fall anyways? Does it require specialized
procedures for cutting? Its just a chondrite, right?

I agree with you, Michael. Bill Mason's additive is
great. It preserves the metal and rubber seals while
allowing the use of distilled water.

Alcohol is extremely harsh on a standard lapidary saw.
Not only is not the best coolant, it dissolves the
grease in the bearings, hardens rubber seals and
posses a fire hazard. I see blades spark all the time
on a high-speed saws when cutting meteorites. The
blade will actually cause the alcohol to vaporize as
it froths up the coolant making it even more prone to
ignition. Enclose this vapor under a saw hood, add a
spark and kaboom! Even Houdini couldn't escape this
possibility.

I only mention this because I have heard of others
using alcohol on a standard saw and don't want to read
about burn victims.

Best Regards,

Adam

Steve,
Too bad you are on a SA kick at this point. If you remember that tent at
Erichs' hotel that had more pretty Sikhotes than the rest of Tucson.
Thats where I obtained the only SA that I bought in Tucson. A nice
individual that was just about to be torn apart but stopped just in time to
make it one cool looking piece. I'll have to put it on Michael Johnsons pic
of the day, someday.

To my surprise the same multi kilo oriented sheild SA that I admired at
Tucson 07 was still there this year. Same price too.Yep, thats right no
price increase. But after dropping plenty of lettuce with Haag that pretty
oriented shield SA will just have to wait for me til next year. Im not
exactly an Iron fanatic. Watched too many crumble before my eyes. No
Sikhotes though.

[meteorite-list] AD- Hammer Meteorites Vehicle House

2008-02-01 Thread Bob Evans

Hello List,

Well looks like the lucky ones are in Tucson already and the rest of us are
stuck at home. 20 degrees and one foot of snow here. I could sure use some
AZ sunshine.
While the major dealers are busy in Tucson they have no time to put anything
exciting on ebay.
So, I have a couple of Hammer Specimens up for sale there. I have a fragment
that smashed through a roof and a kitchen floor and settled in the basement.
Imagine that happening to you? When I met with Phil Jones he entertained me
by telling me how his grandchildren thought that a animal had smashed
through their roof and kitchen floor and landed in their basement. You see
he said The meteorite had fiberglass insulation stuck to it and the
children thought that it was some animal when they seen it on the floor in
the dark basement Can you imagine that ? Its midnight and something
smashes through your roof and lands in your basement. What would you think
it was ? A meteorite? not likely.
Meeting with Phil was a rewarding and very profitable experience. He sold me
all the fragments that he had swept up from the kitchen and the basement.

The other hammer that I have up for auction is from a stone that hit a
towtruck less than 2 blocks from Winslow St. in Park Forest. I bought the
whole stone except for 2 fragments that the owner kept for his
grandchildren. This meteorite struck the step and put a dent in the
driverside door. If you collect rare meteorites that have hit vehicles this
is one that you should have. I have only sold one piece of this and that was
in 2006. So only 2 people own any of this meteorite. If you win you will be
the third.

Dear List Members,

We would like to take this opportunity to announce
Northwest Africa 5000. To keep things
straightforward, Northwest Africa 5000 is a Massive,
Gorgeous and Unique Feldspathic Leucogabbroic Breccia
from the Lunar Highlands. We deem that it is the most
impressive meteorite ever found but admittedly there
may be some biases involved, we will let you be the
judge. Its immense presence influenced more than two
dozen enthusiasts to become involved with the
supervision of this remarkable meteorite. Every
aspect of Northwest Africa 5000 has been micromanaged,
representing over 1,600 man-hours of passionate labor
over the last five months. There is too much to cover
in a single post so we will be providing supplementary
information in the upcoming weeks.

Several new systems including a rating scale has been
developed around this Moon rock. We will get more into
this later including the scale key. This rating
system is extremely rigid, more so than that of
widespread diamonds, common in comparison to material
from our Moon. Basically, the scale ranges from 0 for
typical lunar material (if there is such a thing) all
the way up to a nearly unachievable 10 based on 6
points of criteria. The new rating system is so
stringent that it is possible for a Lunaite to rate
less than 0.

We do not have a sales inventory ready at this time as
the prepared slices are still being analyzed and
independently rated, however we are on track to make a
few nice specimens obtainable at the Tucson Gem and
Mineral Show. Please consider hanging onto your
hard-earned assets until you have experienced
Northwest Africa 5000 as we reason you will be of the
same mind that it is the all-time best. Your
resources will be best invested in a rock that is
destined to become legendary. We will post an
announcement when the catalog is finished and where it
can be seen in person as it is impossible to capture
its beauty by way of image. For those of you who will
be attending the Tucson show, I will introduce you to
two promotional consultants who are also partners on
this massive project, young and understand fun!

Here is a link providing more details in Microsoft
Word format. There are sub-links imbedded in this
document including a huge 3-D movie file, a PDF file
and a few standard images.

Hi friends,

in agency of the Austrians in Tucson (unfortunately I can't make it to the
show this year)

I have following information for you.

Erich Haiderer Room 117+patio, Riverpark Inn (formerly Pueblo Inn) Room
117 ph (520) 6226611 ext 117

You might be informed already, but just wanted to let you know about
tremendous

detour challenges: As there
is only 1 single rather hidden exit off the I-10 for a long distance it
might

appear likely that somebody gets lost far away of the intended goal:
The access to all major center show locations is a huge challenge unless
you
know the precise exit ramp. There is only (max.) 1 each going eastbound:
Prince
Road (and not! Grant road as previously indicated) and westbound: 29th
Street.

Take extreme care to watch out carefully for this precise exits and the
instructions below.
Get off I-10 at the Prince Road Exit #254
. Continue straight ahead on the southbound Frontage Road for
approximately 5.0

miles
. The Riverpark Inn will be on the right -- a half block past Congress
Street

If you miss the Prince Road Exit #254, you must.
. Continue on I-10 East for 5 miles to the next exit (6th Avenue)
. Get off I-10 at the 6th Avenue Exit #261
. Turn left onto 6th Avenue and cross over the Freeway
. Turn left onto the westbound I-10 entrance ramp stay in left hand lane
. Take Exit #259 (29th Street) and travel straight on the northbound
Frontage

Road
approximately 3.0 miles to Congress Street
. Turn left at Congress Street go underneath the Freeway
. Take an immediate left turn at Carl's Jr. onto the southbound Frontage
Road

. The Riverpark Inn will be on the right, a half block ahead.

Directions from the East (New Mexico El Paso):

. Get off I-10 at the 29th Street Exit #259
. Continue straight ahead on the northbound Frontage Road for 1.5 miles
. Turn left at Congress Street go underneath the Freeway
. Take an immediate left turn at Carl's Jr. onto the southbound Frontage
Road

. The Riverpark Inn will be on the right, a half block ahead.
If you miss the 29th Street Exit #259, you must..
. Continue on I-10 West approximately 6 miles to the next exit (El Camino
del

Cerro/Ruthrauff Road)
. Get off I-10 at El Camino del Cerro/Ruthrauff Road Exit #252
. Turn left at El Camino del Cerro, stay in left-hand lane go underneath
the

Freeway
. Take an immediate left turn onto the southbound Frontage Road
. DO NOT RE-ENTER THE FREEWAY -- Continue straight ahead on the Frontage
Road

for approximately 6 miles
. The Riverpark Inn will be on the right -- a half block past Congress St.
. Get off I-19 at the 22nd-29th Street Exit #102

Directions from Tucson Airport:

. Exit the Airport on Tucson Blvd. continue straight
. Turn left onto Valencia Road
. Turn right onto I-19 North
. Get off I-19 at the 22nd-29th Street Exit #102

On the frontage roads, a third lane is open to traffic, creating three
lanes of
one-way traffic in each direction from Prince Road to 29th Street for
local

traffic and access.

I've analyzed the webserver log files from the nearly 3 years of the
Meteoritical Bulletin Database's existence online. Would anybody like to
guess which article has been looked at more times than any other (30% more

Ok ok, after about 100 private request for photos of
the new Lunar meteorites I found less than two weeks
ago, I have uploaded photos of one of them.
I was wanting to wait till the Tucson show, but what
the heck, photos do not do this stone justice, so
those who come can hold it before it is cut.

This is certainly one of my best meteorite finds ever.

By the way, what do you all think it will be? I am
sure it is a gabbro melt, the clasts are all yellow,
the matrix nothing but black glass.
This will likely be one of the most beautiful lunar
meteorites out there when cut.
It is for sale intact should someone want a comple

Lunar meteorite all to themselves.

I will no longer ship anything to Italy

that if the items are stolen by corrupt

Bob, your suggestion seems to be a clear violation of
ebay policies and might result in ebay cancelling the
auction.

2008-01-09 Thread Bob Evans
While obviously being a comedy show. I think that to a certain extent it
truly exemplifies the general perception of meteorites by the population as
a whole.
Majority of them don't really understand the concept of a asteroid being
found on the surface of the earth.
And while the youth seem genuinely interested and amazed by meteorites I
have found that only adults ( some of them ) due to their ignorance
criticize and find humor in meteorites.
But these are the people who probably collect Beanie Babies and beer cans
anyways.

Don,
You touched a nerve there. I hate it when I see an incredible oriented
meteorite and then realize that it has been cut or ground for a window.
I ve seen a couple recently that I would love to have in my collection and
was willing to pay top dollar until I seen the cut ( even on the backside )
and then the value dropped by 80 % in my eyes.
All dealers should really know what they are doing before they ruin an
oriented meteorite.

I find it amazing that some dealers are only too
willing to destroy the beauty of an oriented meteorite
which is obviously a common type to get it classified
and then refuse to get a rare meteorite classified
because they think it looks like something someone
else has.

How is the collector, or his/her heirs, going to sell
that rare meteorite that was never classified? It may
seem like a bargain at the time to buy a field
classified meteorite but there will come a time when
it will most likely be considered worthless in the
secondary market.

Your advise is certainly sound.

unwitnessed fall from a hot
desert a.k.a. for us, dense collecting area (don't
know where else to get
all those Mars rocks), the best thing to do is to
plot the strewn field. In
the contemporary world that seems so difficult since
we can't even get
location information for one stone that has already
been through maybe
several hands.

So I only see two options or combinations between
them:

1) Don't buy anything that is not documented.
Discourage others supporting
this.
2) Buy everything under an agreement of trust from a
reputable seller and
submit the batch to a scientist and let him/her
minimize the guesswork and
possibly minor tests if doubts come up. Or in a
positive light, to convince
the scientist to say the batch is the same material
or cull out what is not
to arrive at the TKW.

If you want to by Mars without any formal
classification, in the form of
many pebbles, there is no solution except 2),
whether you go it alone or
spread the risk with partners. Because you would
now be representing a rock
that has been subjectively field classified.
While some people can live
with this, others can't. If you can at least get
locational information for
your specimens, you don't have to give the full
20/20 - or anything for that
matter if enough to meet the combined 20/20 is in
curation as vouchers for
the group after the naming of your material - if a
scientist agrees to
classify and pair it to an existing classification.
This is the motivation
of the newer guidelines.

Some people get mad about subjective classification,
because they broke the
ground on the sample and invested, while others
are pissed that it is
obvious and common sense dictates the material is
what it is (arguments
like, bought from the same trader, got from the same
nomad, found together):
with no further support except subjective judgements
perceived as strong and
well founded.

This latter may be true, but that still doesn't
remove the reality. Only if
the specimens fit together can this be foolproof.
Even an expert meteorite
hunter scientist can find or purchase a handful of
meteorites in the field
from a known fall and every once in a while a
terrestrial rock can sneak in
that has you fooled like a baby. Let me say it has
happened to me, and it
is a very frustrating and humbling experience. Some
time I'll tell the
story of a meteorwrong that saw me coming it was a
remarkable fraud that
would surprise anyone - the best scientists, at
their first glance,
included.

So, the reality is also that unless each rock is
carefully studied, nothing
can avoid ocassional duds getting mixed in. Not to
mention incorrect
pairing of similr meteorites. Luckily in the sandy
desert this isn't as
great a problem as areas with varieties of rocks.

How Unsettling, How Disagreeable to the innocent
collector and enthusiast,
scientist alike- but true. This is rthe dirty
laundry of meteorite
collecting. Hopefully someone has a better
suggestion, but I wouldn't hold
my breath unless I were an alchemist capable of
ethically transmuting
batches of meteorites ;-) There is no free lunch...
and no one can make
promises for something that hasn't been done. (Or
can they?)

This whole thing gets sticky, when, you buy
meteorites from the literally
same batch that another person has already
classified. Sure: you may have
the same material, but then again, just because the
original buyer may not
have demanded 100% error proffing during the
classification and is selling
some stones under the classification

Yes, Tim there are some exceptions. I remember when Mike Farmer sent me an
incredible oriented meteorite Roosevelt Co. The Bottom had been cut off and
I can say that the piece was still fabulous. It didn't adversely affect the
piece. But, like Mike said when someone cuts the thing right in half that's
just retarded.
What happened to that Killer large oriented iron that was in your room in
Tucson last Feb? That was a beauty !

I know somebody that cut the butt ugly part off of an 95 % oriented

It now looks like a perfect oriented iron and sits well.

Don,
You touched a nerve there. I hate it when I see an incredible oriented
meteorite and then realize that it has been cut or ground for a window.
I ve seen a couple recently that I would love to have in my collection
and was willing to pay top dollar until I seen the cut ( even on the
backside ) and then the value dropped by 80 % in my eyes.

I'm sure everybody has tired of seeing posts from E.P. , Jason etc.

What about Tucson? Nothing to talk about ?
Doesn't Michael Blood usually have a auction page on his website by now? Is
there really going to be kilos and Kilos of Mali, huh Mike?
Can we see some posts about anything other than Mammoth spew and the I'm
right you are wrong posts?
I see that Al is having an auction on Feb 15th. Are any of the main
collectors going to be around for that?
If he decided not to personally conduct the auction in his room because of
the problems last year, that's a shame.
Looks like Jim Strope is going to sell some personal collection pieces. That
should be pretty cool.

Any body planning on hunting while in AZ ?

I would bring a nice Pallasite , a nice Sikhote alin, and a freshly crusted
chondrite.
This would be a nice start, because the kids dont need to be overloaded with
too much info on an initial presentation.

I did a presentation a few years back for some 5th graders. It was a great
experience for the kids as well as myself.

One thing tough, they are going to want to have a piece for themselves to
take home.

So, you may want to buy a small lot of NWA's to give to them.

Have fun !

some easy fossils. If I wanted to expand this to include meteorites, what

Thanks.

I do not want to sound as if I am a know-it-all because I am not. I want

Hi
This AD is dedicated to Annie Black :)

Im sure everyone like to see rarest or the rarest recovered samples of
Carancas meteorite.
There was many specimens recoveded by Mike Farmer, Bob Haag, finally even
Campo King Hans Koser. But I have never seen any sample with more than
10-20-30% crust or slickensides (shock veins).

Here I have even 100% complete specimen. Impossible ?
I also thinked that this is impossible since whole mass hit the ground and
make famous mud hole ever and remaining samples changed into dust clound
or 5mm fragments scattered around.

But I was lucky to find this samples and I cant belive it that they
survive in one piece.

Ok, no more talks, lets enjoy photos.

Hello List,

Just in case some of you haven't noticed yet. Marcin has a beautiful,
very
fresh carbonaceous chondrite (S2/W1-2 - TKW only 689 gr). My 6.78-gram
endcut
arrived today and I can assure you this is a must have. There are
chondrules
galore (most of them very small but a few conspicuously larger,
orange-brown
and crystalline - probably PO) with distinct rims of fine-grained, opaque
material
throughout the matrix. Marcin has given it a high, mirror-like polish,
which even

adds to this CO3.1's beauty!

Come on Steve,
You KNOW it will end up on ebay. Thats nothing to be ashamed of. You are
slightly different than the majority of us collectors. Your desire to have a
new meteorite in the P.O. Box every week is insatiable. And if that means
you have to keep buying and selling every piece you get so be it.

Just read this one. You are way off my friend.

First of all, the email regarding Erwin had absolutely nothing to do with
you. You know I have always held you in high regard as one of the best
dealers in the business and you are responsible for supplying a huge
percentage of my collection.
Secondly nobody uses me for anything. Im nobodys B**CH I assure you. What I
wrote praising Erwin was out of pure gratitude. The guy offered me as well
as some other collectors a free sample of the Carancas meteorite. That's it.

And no, you will not see me touting anybody's auctions.

I propose this to Mr. Farmer. That we both return all of our meteorite's
to the Peruvian government and ask them permission if we can keep one
for our respective collections. They can make that decision. And they
can also decide how much we can keep. Then we apologize to the people of

Hi all -

I see that rather than discussing how the new holocene

persist in insulting my book, without having bothered
himself to read it.

No, I'm not insulting your book, I'm asking you a direct damn question.
And
you sidestepped them and went off on a unrelated tangent, just like I knew
you
would and predicted that you would in writing. But I'm not as dumb as the
crop
circle and alien astronaut and Roswell aliens crowd that have been giving
you
the interviews and reviews that I've found on the web so far (what's that
about
birds of a feather?) so I'm not going to be fooled by your asides. Here's
the
damn questions. Not insults. Questions. Questions that you have the
burden of
proving, not me the burden of disproving, if you want your science to be
taken

seriously.

Question 1-- By what means do you provide evidence that the creation myths
you

cite as being historical accounts are indeed accurate historical accounts?

Question 2-- By what means do you determine WHICH creation myths are
accurate

ancient history and which creation myths are just myths, when most creation
myths are mutually contradictory with one another?

Question 3-By what system do you determine that the stories have been
transmitted accurately over 13,000 years by this specific story when no
other

equally ancient histories exist anywhere else on the Earth?

If the answers to those questions are anything other than the fact that they
can
be interpreted to fit the conclusion that you started with, I would be glad
to

hear it. Evidence. Not just the assumption that it is accurate. Something
that would have any chance at all of standing up in a peer reviewed journal
instead of a self-published book that you need to visit websites to push.
And I

will publicly apologize to you if you provide reasonable evidence to those
questions.

And here are a couple of new questions-the first-do you REALLY believe in a
culture of 7 1/2 foot tall Native Americans, as I found you saying in
another of
your advertisements for your book that I found while searching for
comprehensive

reviews?

http://www.dailygrail.com/node/3792

As these Native American people were 7 and a half feet tall,
all the other peoples remembered them, and remembered their
wars with them. These traditions and the CTG's archaeological
remains are set out in rock solid detail in Man and Impact in the
Americas.

And a personal question to satisfy my curiosity-are you a Native American?
Because I can't understand another reason for you to be accepting these
accounts

so uncritically unless they border or religion for you.

Oh, one more question-do you have an evidentiary rebuttal to the web sites I

Re: [meteorite-list] Bricks from the Nininger Museum

2007-08-22 Thread Bob Evans

David,

Most likely these people have been to the site and grabbed a few bricks. The
Museum ruins are protected from trespassers. I was there a couple of years
ago but took my chances of finding a few Canyon Diablos and didn't bother
risking taking something from the Museum ruins.

I see people selling bricks from the Nininger Museum from time to time.

How do they acquire these?

I'm interested in buying one but how will I know if it's from the actual
museum?

Does anyone know the dimensions of a full brick?

Thanks

Beautiful, cool meteorite. But Darryl, I don't think you are the only one
that thinks $4K/gram is extremely exorbitant for this new meteorite.

I've long thought that Mike Farmer is The Man. What Mike has accomplished
and continues to accomplish is amazing; he is without peer.

The foregoing notwithstanding, what is it about Cali that makes it worth
$4000/g? Is it because it fell in an extremely rough area and there is
a couple hundred grams---of one of the stones? Or is it because it went
through a roof---even though more than one hundred roofs have been
penetrated by cosmic debris? What happens when Mike, and others who
emulate Mike, soon acquire another new common chondrite that goes through
a roof in a similarly rough neighborhood? Is that worth $4000/g as well?
More than 10x the value of some Martian meteorites? And what if it's a
lower-class roof in Nogales---what's that worth? (And I don't know if
many of you know this, but Peekskill---it's the Wild West up there.)

Some of you may recall when the Moon first came out of the Sahara and was
selling for $25,000/gram, I suggested on this very list that to pay such
a sum would be folly and soon prove insane. Cali has now entered the
realm of the lunar-tics.

Watch out below for a BUY recommendation in a column on Meteorite Market
Trends.

With what you are offering and what I am offering there still
won't be enough to meet the demand, but at least a few dozen

I dont think he was criticizing Mike, Darren.
Sometimes Mike goes after a fall and no matter what he has invested in the
trip he wont be able to recoup his costs. Remember the India fall ?

I'm sure Mike would have liked to have gathered 400x as much for the same
expenses and sold it to us for $10 a gram, but he has to recoup his
expenses

with what he's got.

I think most people know that Mike has better things to do than sign a

In fact most of us know to expect days to get a email reply from Mike. I
dont think hes going to waste a keystroke on a guestbook.

I have a small web site dedicated to my collection of meteorite spheres.

On my web site I have a Guest Book and on July 27th someone posted the
following comment and attached Mike Framers name to it:

Why in the world do you waste your time with silly spheres for? Gxx Dxxx-
those are butt ugly simply because they're not natural.

Mike Farmer.

When I read this comment I didn't think Mike posted it for several
reasons.

1. He sold me my second sphere and we have had long conversations about
which materials would make good spheres

2. If he had posted it he would have left his email address.

BUT just to be sure I contacted Mike and asked him and he let me know he
didn't do it.

SO, that means someone in the meteorite community has some very deep
rooted issues with Mike and if this person does the same to your web site
guest book be sure to give Mike the benefit of the doubt.
