RE: [NSWolves: 8460] Celebrating, commiserating or confused?
Ask yourself this, can he be any worse than the last 3 x Manager's? I also have a Watford mate who said he did a good job for them as a Coach. To be honest, I much prefer the choice of Kenny Jackett to McLaren, Warnock and Coyle. I just hope he has an almighty clearout! If the likes of Henry, O'Hara, Johnson, Doyle, Foley and Daley (coach) are there next season then I fear the worst. However, I think he knows we need new blood and a fresh start. It could be a very exciting transfer market for us in the summer! [NSWolves] Hull prediction.
Hello All, Sorry I couldn't make the recent get together's, had a knee arthroscopy last Wednesday and only just started feeling comfortable walking any major distance. I think the game at Hull will be an open game. Both defences are pretty ordinary and have let in heaps of goals this season. Fingers crossed, I'm going for a 3 -2 to us! Doyle x 2 and Milijas x 1. RE: [NSWolves] Kightly
Keogh and Doyle up front, hopefully yes. SEB needs a kick up the backside, looked to be prima donna'ing it a bit on Saturday to me. The midfield is anyone's guess after recent match selections. Milijas for sure in the middle for me. Surman had a shocker against Chelsea, if picked, maybe he will show us what he can do. Not convinced at all about him so far, though he has been used infrequently. Henry and Edwards to warm the bench. I'd also consider playing Foley in midfield. RE: [NSWolves] New Pompey Manger Odds [sec=unclassified]
We are predominantly a Championship team that has been trying to establish ourselves again in the top flight for the last 25 years!! The sooner some people accept that the better. It's great to have expectations and desire for success but we have to be realistic. The glory days of the past are gone. The money men have taken over and we will always struggle big time to compete again on the relatively even footing we enjoyed in the past (50's / 60's). Let's enjoy this season and get behind MM. Only a third of the season has gone, win our next 2 home games and it could be all smiles again!! _ From: Morris, Lee SGT [mailto:lee.mor...@defence.gov.au] Sent: Wednesday, 25 November 2009 4:33 PM To: nswolves@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: [NSWolves] New Pompey Manger Odds [sec=unclassified] _ From: Steven Millward [mailto:millward@gmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, 25 November 2009 15:23 To: nswolves@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: [NSWolves] New Pompey Manger Odds [sec=unclassified] Because he built us a good team with longevity, not a team of old has beens. That team was also a good investment as it will be worth more than what was paid for it. That's shrewd business and in stark contrast to teh previous managers we had. A good team? We are almost bottom and have only won two games all season. A good championship team but definately not a good premier league team. Because getting into too much debt could be a disaster for the club. We're not going to spend big and he's good at buying players for little money and making them play well. He gets about one in three right, remember there have been plenty of flops...have you seen the tall Austrian play? Because his approach has been shown to work. Remind me how many years and how many managers and how much money we burned trying to get promoted? Then compare it to what he spent in actually winning the Championship. He's got a good track record at getting teams promoted...not keeping them up. Agree about our record at changing managers, its terrible. Because changing manager is unlikely to change our fortunes. If you have evidence that changing manager is a proven way of improving results for a club in the medium term then show me. I presented my facts recently to say the opposite. There are managers that have saved clubs (Arry is the prime example) Because, realistically, we have to be prepared to bounce up and down to become established This is very risky indeed, a risk I wouldn't like us to take. No guarantee we'd bounce back at all. Look at all the ex PL sides in turmoil. I'd rather us take a gamble at staying up. 2009/11/25 Morris, Lee SGT lee.mor...@defence.gov.au What a terrible predicament we are in, we've got a manager who may just fluke it and keep us up, but if we do go down we know he's a good championship manager. So what you are saying is we are unlikely to sack him this season because he'll be ok in the lower league? Morning Steve, Yes, Stearman at left back would be okay if we played this formation: Hennessy Zubar Berra Craddock Stearman Edwards Milijas Mancienne Jarvis SEB Doyle I feel Henry is not the answer and we need to try something different. Sorry Marcus, Your jumps in logic and assumptions, points 1,2 and 3, were not what I implied in my email. Far from it. Sorry, I do not have your Financial acumen / programming to make the conclusions you have drawn. To be clear, my comments on your points as follows: 1. Disagree. Firstly, look at all the foreign Coaches in the Premier league at the moment. How many of them had Premier league experience before they were appointed by their respective clubs? If you have the talent and the backing of the Club then you do not need Premier league experience to make it as a successful Coach. People like Steve Coppell and Alan Curbishley achieved promotion with their respective sides before acquiring Premier League management experience. As they deserved, just like MM has after achieving promotion. 2. Disagree, MM has earned his chance to manage the Wolves in the Prem. 3. Partly agree, if we were to appoint another Manager then yes, you would think the club would appoint someone with a consistent record of being successful in the Premier League. How to do this? Pay them a lot of money! Give them full control of player recruitment. Bonus scheme for level of success attained. I just think out of all the midfielder’s we have at the moment he is the one that has shown glimpses of class / creativity that can unlock defences for us. Therefore, he needs to be in the team and given an opportunity. Huff and Puff will only get you so far. _ From: nswolves@googlegroups.com [mailto:nswol...@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Steven Millward Sent: Monday, 2 November 2009 9:28 AM To: nswolves@googlegroups.com Subject: [NSWolves] Re: Stoke fan's view on us Am I the only one that finds that a bit patronising? Mick was positive about him too. 2009/11/2 Marcus Chantry marcus.chan...@macquarie.com Wolves have nothing to worry about, they’ll be fine. Mick McCarthy is a good manager and seems a thoroughly decent human being to boot. His decision to replace Castillo with Milijas changed the game. Wolves reminded me of Stoke last season - they lack quality in a few key areas but make up for it with their physical style and complete commitment - ironically something that Stoke themselves were lacking yesterday. They looked slow and defensively naïve in the first half, but then rolled up their sleeves and, spurred by a terrific away following, set about salvaging the game, while easily dealing with our feeble offence. Ultimately, Wolves can probably feel entitled to be disappointed with just one point for their efforts, so total was their second half superiority. Full credit to them. I agree Steve, Mancienne at left back on Saturday will be MM's change to the team. Ward is out for a few more weeks at least. Elokobi needs to be dropped, a liability and not up to standard. Distribution is dreadful. Henry is working hard but cannot make a decisive pass to save his life. He infuriates me with his passes back to our defenders all the time!! Our defence is not the creative heart of our team he is supposed to be! MM obviously loves him but him and Castillo seem pretty similar to me. Time to bring back Milijas. Something has gone on with him and MM, anybody heard anything. At least MM is looking to play the ball forward, run into attacking positions and looks about the most creative chap we have in the midfield at the moment. The tall guy is just another attacking option, a plan B so to speak. Spurs played with Keane and Defoe up front on Saturday, bringing Crouch on later in the match. The match before Crouch started. I think MM has brought Hoff for this very reason, to give us another string to our bow attacking wise so to speak. We have numerous combinations now available for our attack from Doyle, SEB, Keogh, Hoff, Kightly, Jarvis and Milijas. Some games we might play with 2 out and out wingers and others we won't. Last year some people were bemoaning our tactics and lack of a plan B or C. MM can't win! P.S. MM won me over in Perth, Wolves I think are in his heart, that's good enough for me. I think with Milijas in we are also lightweight in midfield, especially if we want to keep some width. We haven't seen true width yet with both Jarvis and Kightly in the side. Encouraging performance, what we are lacking is that little bit of class / composure in front of goal. Far more positives than negatives. First goal was a screamer! Second Hennessey and Craddock were at fault, more so Hennessey. You could see he was mad with himself as he had coped well and come for a few crosses earlier in the game. We looked strong going down the left with Milijas, Jarvis and Ward playing well. Keogh had a very good game in my opinion, far more good things than bad things. He made a couple of wrong decisions when a better pass selection could have put SEB in for a chance but hopefully he will learn from that. One of the biggest positives to me was we had 9 shots on target and 11 off target! I'm sure Doyle will help us put more of these chances away. SEB didn't look up for it and had a poor game, should have timed his run for that header better. He will also be kicking himself that he didn't score early in the second half. Should have tucked that one away, all he had to do was lift it over the keeper's legs as Green was committed. Upton had him in his pocket for most of the game. What was he going on about with the Ref at half time? Hope MM sorts his ego out quick! Mancienne and Foley looked very comfortable and not out of place. [NSWolves] Re: Weekend results?
I don't think MM wants us to play like Stoke or copy their tactics. What I think he meant from his comments is that he wants us to emulate Stoke's success last year in staying up! If you think MM is going to play Long ball, hit hope type tactics then you will be in for a surprise! SEB and Doyle are not the tallest of striker's and not suited to the long ball game. MM will try and use the wings, when possible, to get behind defences and have SEB and Doyle coming onto balls instead of having their backs to goal. If we were going to play long ball stuff all the time he would have signed that 6ft 7 Austrian chap. Long ball will be an option if Iwelumo plays. _ From: nswolves@googlegroups.com [mailto:nswol...@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Marcus Chantry Sent: Monday, 10 August 2009 11:48 AM To: nswolves@googlegroups.com Subject: [NSWolves] Re: Weekend results? [NSWolves] Doyle article.
I’ve got a great feeling about this signing, it sounds like he really wants to play for us!! Taken from the Irish Times: Wolves break record to sign Doyle In this section » http://www.irishtimes.com/sports/ * De http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/sport/2009/0701/1224249834416.html Villiers comments despicable - O'Driscoll * Ferguson http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/sport/2009/0701/1224249834457.html tips Valencia to make big impact MARY HANNIGAN SOCCER: KEVIN DOYLE recalled with a grin yesterday watching the 1990 World Cup finals as a six-year-old and, later, reading Mick McCarthy’s autobiography, Captain Fantastic, in which he recounted his experiences in that tournament. “He didn’t have to say it was all that time ago,” said the Wolves manager, feeling his age, but he was amused by the notion that, 19 years on, his club had just broken its transfer record to sign this fan of his literary works. After four seasons with Reading, the middle two spent in the Premier League, Doyle has returned to the top flight of English football, signing a four-year contract with Wolves who were promoted as winners of the Championship last season. The fee of €7.6 million is the highest ever paid by the club, and the highest ever received by Reading. It is also more than Wolves’ entire outlay on new signings in advance of their last Premier League campaign in 2003-04, their thriftiness then contributing to their subsequent relegation. Once Reading missed out on promotion from the Championship, losing to Burnley in the play-off semi-finals last month, Doyle’s departure seemed inevitable, despite the Wexford man signing an extension to his contract in November. But a release clause left the way open for Doyle to leave the club if its valuation of the player was met, and while speculation linked him with Aston Villa, Everton, Tottenham, Fulham and Sunderland, amongst others, it was Wolves who moved the quickest. “The fact that they put in a phone call to Reading and had a bid accepted, without me ever knowing about, the day the season was over made me see how keen they were,” said Doyle, who scored 55 goals in 154 league games for Reading, having signed from Cork City in 2005. “I was expecting another long summer, so when someone is that keen and shows that much interest it really makes you feel happy about yourself and makes you want to play for that club. “I came here a couple of weeks ago, was shown around, told about the history of the club and had a great conversation with the manager. It made it a lot easier for me. It was an easy conversation I had with him; sometimes they can be awkward, but we rambled on for a couple of hours, not just about football but everything. I made my mind up that day.” “We sat in my office for nearly two hours chatting away,” said McCarthy. “There was no forced conversation – How are you? Have you got a wife? Are you married? Have you got kids? – it wasn’t one of those. It was just a good hour or two chatting about football and chatting about life. I enjoyed it and I think Kevin must have done because he’s come back and signed for me and for Wolves. “I think it’s a real coup for us, I’m delighted. For me his character has always stood out – he shows a great desire on the pitch, puts his shift in, he’s got good technical ability and wherever he’s played he’s scored goals, at club and international level.” Wolves chairman Steve Morgan described Doyle’s arrival as a “statement of intent” by the club, who have also signed Serbian midfielder Nenad Milijas for €3 million. “He’s a hell of a player, I’ve said before that we’re not coming up to the Premier League to be also-rans, we’re coming up to make our mark.” Meanwhile Reading director of football Nick Hammond wished Doyle well, paying tribute to his contribution to the club over the past four years. “He has been a fantastic player for us and I would like to wish him every success in his future career.” Doyle, who described his time at Reading as “the best four years of my life so far”, will travel to Australia next week for pre-season games with Wolves, along with his new Irish clubmates Andy Keogh, Kevin Foley and Stephen Ward, his home debut likely to come in early August in a friendly against Real Valladolid at Molineux. While no date has yet been set the 25-year-old also revealed yesterday that Wolves will play Wexford Youths in a friendly. “That was something I wanted,” he said, “I look forward to it, I haven’t played a game in Wexford since I was 16.” Paul Crowe Sales Manager - Asia Pacific ConTech (Sydney Office) PO Box 3517 Rhodes Waterside Rhodes NSW 2138 Tel: 02 97396636 Fax: 02 97396542 Mob: 0406009562 Email: pcr...@contechengineering.com Website: www.contechengineering.com --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ Pig's pudding - it's a mon's dinner aer kid

To be honest with you Marcus, I think Owen should be flattered teams like Wolves are supposedly interested in him. In his last 4 seasons at Newcastle he has played 71 games scoring 26 goals. Not a bad record when he gets on the Park! However, the frequency of him being injured the older he gets has risen expponentially over time. Not sure if the risk is worth it when better alternatives are available. If Wolves can get him on a 20K a week or pay as you play deal with goal bonuses then it could be a good deal for both parties. He would certainly raise our profile and be a help to the younger striker's on our books. _ From: nswolves@googlegroups.com [mailto:nswol...@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Marcus Chantry Sent: Tuesday, 30 June 2009 9:56 AM To: nswolves@googlegroups.com Subject: [NSWolves] Re: Poor Response to Glory game [sec=unclassified] does anyone actually think Owen would come to Wolves? [NSWolves] Re: What the? [sec=unclassified]
I can understand your reasoning but Formula 1 is not the same as Football! I think everyone agrees if we go up then we need some quality additions to the team, using your motor racing analogy, a new suspension, more powerful engine and better tyres. In short, probably at least 5 or 6 first team player's that would replace maybe half of the current team. MM has been given a budget for the Championship, he is working within this budget. Hence, all the so called young and hungry player's on lower wages than more experienced pro's. It is expected his budget for the Premier League would be considerably more and enable us to attract more seasoned and accomplished player's, as well as hot younger player's from UK and abroad. Answer me this: Name me 1 x Manager who has been sacked by his club at seasons end when he has achieved promotion to the Premier League? If Morgan and Moxey don't think he is up to Premier League standards then they should have made changes at the end of last season. I know Morgan did not employ MM but he has had enough time to evaluate him and make changes if he desired? _ From: nswolves@googlegroups.com [mailto:nswol...@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Marcus Chantry Sent: Tuesday, 3 March 2009 4:35 PM To: nswolves@googlegroups.com Subject: [NSWolves] Re: What the? [sec=unclassified] Have to disagree Paul. Let's look at it another way: Let's say you are a racing team and you win the Formula 3000 championship in a Formula 3000 car. Because you won the Championship you get offered the chance to step up to Formula 1. However to do so you need to consider certain things: (1) should you attempt to make the step up using the same F3000 car or do you need to change to a F1 car (2) You are going to need loads more money, bigger sponsors etc. can this be done with the current team manager or are you going to need a more astute manager with better connections who can attract the big money sponsors and manage the egos that go with it. we have to accept that certain people only perform to a certain level, beyond which they are no longer suitable/qualified/capable. I think MM falls into this category and is doing his best to prove that he can't even sustain a second tier team, yet alone a premiership side. _ From: nswolves@googlegroups.com [mailto:nswol...@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of pcr...@contechengineering.com Sent: Tuesday, 3 March 2009 4:10 PM To: nswolves@googlegroups.com Subject: [NSWolves] Re: What the? [sec=unclassified] I honestly don't understand this thinking. If we were to sack MM at the end of this season, with Wolves being promoted, then we would be derided by the majority of the football world. Who would want to manage us knowing that if they succeed and are successful then their reward will be the sack? MM's target this season is to get us promoted. If he achieves this then he deserves to keep his job, simple. Another thing, it is very easy to call for someone's head but who would you replace them with? Who realistically can Wolves approach and expect to sign as their next Manager? Who's better than MM and available at the moment? I was trying to cajole them into a game and away from the Pub and TAB! The full description was: They are pretty unfit so would appreciate a friendly warm up game before the season starts. The team has a few player's under 40 but most are around my age (early to mid-40's) with a few others pushing 50 and above. They are a great set of lads and it will make for a fun and enjoyable Sunday morning. [NSWolves] Re: Where are you Steve? [sec=unclassified]
Marcus, my personal opinion is that we have 2 x good reasons to remain positive about our current plight, they are: 1. Albeit for the Burnley game we are regularly scoring 2 or 3 goals a game. Granted our general play has been dismal, exceedingly so at times if you are to believe all the reports on the Internet, ES newspaper and feedback from family / friends back in Wolverhampton / West Midlands. However, the fact remains we are still scoring goals and creating chances, when playing badly. 2. Berra will help tighten up our defence and prevent us from conceding as many goals as we have been in the last 10 games or so. I defy anyone to say Berra is not an improvement on Collins? If we can keep some clean sheets then we will win some games. If I was MM this would be my perogative at the moment. This may mean a less attacking formation, which has been hinted at in the press this week, and a defence win at all costs approach for a while. If this is needed to bail out the sinking ship then so be it, we can return to the attacking wing play formation when the ship has been righted. Another reason is, if we played so well at the start of the season with the same squad of player's, why can't we do it again? Especially as the pitches / weather conditions will be improving in the next couple of months. _ From: nswolves@googlegroups.com [mailto:nswol...@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Marcus Chantry Sent: Tuesday, 17 February 2009 5:11 PM To: nswolves@googlegroups.com Subject: [NSWolves] Re: Where are you Steve? [sec=unclassified] This brings me back to my original point. When Wolves are playing well, you expect their form to turn bad. When Wolves are playing bad you expect their form to stay bad. When we were playing well I don't recall saying anything to suggest that I expected our form to suddenly turn bad. I do remember saying however that there were numerous games leading up to our current poor form where we played badly but still managed to get points. Since that point we have done stuff all to show that we have the ability to improve our chances of promotion (SEB's hattrick aside). If we were showing glimpses of brilliance or we were continually loosing because of bad luck/ bad decisions then I would expect our luck to change and our form to improve. But all of the reports, the highlights, the internet commentary all make it abundantly clear that we do not even look like reversing our poor form. Have you seen anything in the last month/2 months to suggest we are on our way to improving our current predicament? If not, how can anyone reasonably expect our current form to do anything other than stay bad? The information contained in this email is confidential. Dear All, As a respite from the bickerings and current debate, would any of you be interested in a game against my over 35's football team (Gladesville Sharks Over 35's - 9's)? The team has a few player's under 40 but most are around my age (early to mid-40's) with a few others pushing 50 and above. They are a great set of lads and it will make for a fun and enjoyable Sunday morning. We can retire to a nearby Pub after the game to re-live Steve and Marcus's wonder goals!! Or continue the debate about Wolves recent form and team selections! Never know it might be cause for celebration by then. I propose a date of Sunday 29th March, kick off at 10.30am, venue Gladesville (most likely Morrisson Bay Reserve - to be confirmed). Please let me know how many of you are interested asap? [NSWolves] Re: Where are you Steve? [sec=unclassified]
Time for optimism as I can't countenance the alternative. We are still top of the league with 13 games to go and I'm sticking to my prediction of 92 points. How we have managed to stay in this positon playing absolute s***e for months amazes me? Just shows how ordinary the other competiton is. Why can't we turn things around now? 29 points from a possible 39? Very achievable on early season form, nigh on impossible based on current form. The rot will stop this weekend and I wouldn't be surprised to see a central midfielder arrive on loan soon. Everyone's view or prediction on here could be right, that's the beauty of following the Wolves all these years. But now that we're not doing so well, some people have tried to change the focus to look at the points that we have in the bank saying that everything is rosy because we have X points in the bag (mainly accumulated earlier in the season) and are ignoring the current form (ie average points per game) which was such an important harbinger only 2 months ago. Yes I've read the bit about our last nine games and if the results were spread out over the rest of the season...blah blah blah, that's just people (MM in particular) trying to lighten things. We have a good chance of getting promoted. We are, I still believe, one of the best two teams in the division. On balance so far, we are the best team as we have scored the most points. If these last nine matches had been interspersed amongst the other games, we'd still be where we are, it's just that we wouldn't have convinced ourselves that we were going up without any difficulty. We might have been intermittently swapping places with Brum and Reading over the last four months. If that had happened we'd be very happy being top by now, and clear of third place. There is a lot of sceintific evidence that a person's long term average happiness cannot really be moved, even for people that are supremely successful or make a lot of money. Therefore, all happiness is measured relative to that long term average. I think in the case of football, the long term average is measured against the current season, and the season before. Being only a couple of points clear is worse than being seven points clear, so we are unhappy. If we had been seventh in the league two months ago, we'd be delighted with our position, wouldn't we? So just relax. It does however, seem to be a fact that wherever we are in the table you're never happy. If we were promoted by now, you'd be moaning that we had no chance of staying up. The key is to be grateful for where we are in the league, rather than being sad about where we could have been There are people who see the glass half empty, people who see it half full, and you, who sees it smashed on the floor with the contents making a permanent stain on the carpet and an enduring fear of getting shards of glass in your feet when you walk over it. 3 points from the next 2 games would be a welcome return. I don't see us drawnig, either a win at Sheffield or one home to the Blues. Can't see us winning both but would't it be wonderful if we did!! SEB and Kightly to return to goal scoring form soon. -Original Message- From: nswolves@googlegroups.com [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Steven Millward Sent: Monday, 24 November 2008 2:19 PM To: nswolves@googlegroups.com Subject: [NSWolves] Re: Good position better [sec=unclassified] I'd be happy with a couple of draws, although I have complete faith in Mick to steer us to promotion. Its all theory though, we have a tough game ourselves, but what a position to be in prior to Christmas and the televised game against Brum next weekend. Whatever happens we'll still be top prior to kick off against the Bluenoses and our superior goal difference means we would still be top even after two lossesthings aren't too bad just now. --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ == Pig's pudding - it's a mons dinner aer kid == -~--~~~~--~~--~--~---
[NSWolves] Re: thankyou Coventry!!!!
Just finished watching the game. Birmingham were unlucky, Coventry keeper had a blinder second half! Looked like the ball went over the line near the end and was not given. Blues fans furious!! Hope we can win at home this Saturday and stretch the gap. _ From: nswolves@googlegroups.com [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Marcus Chantry Sent: Tuesday, 4 November 2008 8:57 AM To: nswolves@googlegroups.com Subject: [NSWolves] thankyou Coventry Marcus Chantry -- Associate Director New Product Development - Insurance Macquarie Adviser Services (d) 02 8232 4259 (m) 0448 887 627 P Please consider the environment before printing this email.
