I've changed the subject to better fit with your question.

You might look at Video Redo. It's pretty simple though it is limited in file

Dear All,

I've been asked by a blind student to recommend a video editing package.

The student in question is very good at making good estimations as to where
video is up to by analysing the audio. So really, I need a video editing
package that works well with the keyboard. ..much in the same way that Audacity
works well with audio editing.

I think there's a way to do this with CD Burner XP. I'm pretty sure that you

I had a program on my computer that I regularly used to copy an entire cd to
another CD, but it turned out that it was apparently a long trial and it has
expired. I don't do this very often so I'm not particularly concerned about
doing this easily, and I'm not particularly anxious to get another program for
the few times I do this. However, there is likely a way to do this in Windows
7, and I've tried a couple of approaches without success. Is there a way to
copy an entire CD to another without ripping and then burning using Windows 7
functions?

Hello Brian:

I mostly listen to my station http://radiogeneral.com from Internet Explorer
using the Flsh add-on, but there are many programs from which you may open a
radio stream, including Windows Media.

I have used MaPlEr for years, because it is truly accessible, but most of all
because you may load a playlist, for instance all the files in a folder, then
navigate in them extremely easy, going from file to file with down-arrow and
up-arrow and advancing and retrocedeing within a file with just right or left
arrow, or in larger increments using Control or Shift simultaneously.

Finally, you can go to http://stesoft.com and try ShoutOff.

Best,

Humberto

Hello List: Well I finally decided to try and rip another CD to see whether or
not I have a problem with CDEX; I grabbed an Eddy Arnold CD (believe this or
not, it's one from Timelife) it put the titles in just fine! So I guess this
tells me that the CDs in the Hank Williams collection cannot be ripped with the
titles!  Grhrhrhrhrhrhrowl!  I really wanted to do that as a part of a project;
I would have thought that, since this boxed set I was going to rip was a pretty
popular item, that there'd be plenty of information to be gathered; guess not!
And, as Steve may have accurately pointed out, Windows Media may think that it
has already ripped this CD.although I really can't see any clear-cut evidence
of it! I was able to delete it (at least I think I did) from the library as it
kept kicking open the CD holder! In case I haven't said this enough, I am
thankful that you folks on the list have stuck with me on this one! If anyone
knows of a ripping program that may give me better results than CDEX or Windows
Media (preferably one that if
free) would sure appreciate it.although I might be willing to pay for one if
it's not super-expensive!

It's been a while since I used Express Rip. Last time I did it used Freeds.com

You might check to see what music data base it is using and see if you can
change it. From earlier posts, it sounds as if your particular disks may just
not be out on the net yet and you'll need to manually tag the files.

As I understand the process these programs/data bases go through, is they
analyze the number of tracks on a disk, the length of each track in order and
the total length of the disk and try to match that information with disks in
their data bases. If no one's put that info up on their data base, it will try
to find something close as a suggestion.

By tagging a file, I'm wanting to get the title, artist, album and the year the

designed for streaming content. I already have the files on my PC, but they

CDEx doesn't use Gracenote by default, you have to install a different
program called player which you can find on the gracenote site and this
 will
allow you to export information from Gracenote to CDEx and, yes, this
 still
works fine. GraceNote is far better than FreeCDDB, but both still exist
 and
 Gracenote complements the former.

Yes points taken, I must find out about the bridge, for example is it like the
Apple Airport Express, can you stream to it or receive streams through it and
plug in your own stereo equipment?

I've just ordered a bridge, only cost me $35.

I think you need the bridge, but that's the least expensive part of the

 Hi!

I posted an article to the list about Sonos and how Google Play will be
directly streaming to Sonos equipment though it probably won't be too
accessible right now but that got me thinking.

I was able to get a link to a very nice page detailing all the various Sonos
speakers and Soundbars available and thought that the Play:1 might be nice in
 my kitchen on the counter.

So I'm wondering, do you need the Sonos Bridge to transmit to your Sonos
equipment such as the Play:1 or is the Play:1 like an AirPlay device which
just connects to your Wi-Fi network.

Mp3tag is hands down the best audio file tagger for Windows. It is incredibly
powerful, supports multiple filetypes and makes managing metadata in your files
a breeze. It's also completely accessible. You can get it at:
http://www.mp3tag.de/en/download.html

An honourable mention for foobar2000 if you happen to use that, which can also
manage file tagging duties quite admirably.

Note that Mp3tag and Mp3/Tag Studio are not the same thing, probably goes
without saying but I figured I'd mention it.

Does anyone have experience with the accessibility of SAM Broadcaster? The

Any tips or help will be greatly appreciated.

RE: victor reader stream question

I had a similar problem with my first generation Stream. I sent it back to
Humanware, as with yours, it was out of warranty. They said it was a problem
with the motherboard/circuit board. They were unwilling to attempt to fix it.
They said I could either transfer items using an external card reader or buy a
new unit. Not exactly the best customer service. I hope you've got a
different problem, but I've seen reports of similar failures on many of these
lists.

Good luck.

one book waiting to be read, i'm totally perplexed, i'm an avid reader, and

Okay, decided not to use Easy CD DA Extractor any longer as the software

name of the software has also changed so forgive me smile.

So now what to use for Audio file format conversion? Well I just upgraded

Switch Plus Audio Format Converter and Wave Pad, I'll talk about the Wave

To try to answer Clifford's question, I checked out the current version of
format factory on the web, because I haven't updated since version 2.96 and
didn't know if things had changed. However, I found out that with the new
version, you can not opt out of the Ask toolbar during installation. And the
Ask toolbar is very difficult to eliminate. You need a program like Revo
Uninstaller. Therefore, unless you have an earlier version that lets you say
no to the Ask toolbar, or unless you want the Ask toolbar, I can no longer
recommend Format Factory.
By the way, you're correct about the low bit rate. I use Total Recorder when
I want higher ones.

Sign into your Amazon account. There will be a long list of things to do with
your account. One of the links is entitled Your MP3 Settings. Hit enter on
that and you'll find a couple of check boxes. One is to permit downloading of
mp3s from the Cloud player. As I recall it's not checked by default. The
other check box is to prevent downloading.

When they first instituted the Cloud Player I was having a heck of a time
downloading and having to play tracks, etc. Someone on one of these lists
pointed out that check box to me and now it works much better.

I haven't downloaded anything for a while, but the last time I purchased some
tracks for my daughter a year ago, having the check box to permit downloads
made it much easier to get the tracks.

RE: victor reader stream

That only applies if he has a 2nd generation stream. I assume that he has the
older Stream and will need a softpack to play enhanced audio books.

The stream does not say there is a softpack because it is in the firmware
now. It comes with the stream. I also had the same question. But called
humanware and they said the softpack is no longer needed with the new
generation. Yes, an audable book should play.

2013-05-06 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Download a format 4 version of the book you want to play and see if it plays.
If it does and the enhanced version doesn't play, you don't have the softpack.
If neither plays, then perhaps you've lost your audible key and you need to
reauthorize your player.

Yes. You should be able to delete the track 1, etc and type in the actual

RE:

2013-03-14 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Check out http://www.emusic.com It started out as a site that emphasized
alternative and independent artists and has slowly migrated to a more
mainstream offering. There's still plenty of the edgy stuff though!

They've just started offering a la carte purchasing, about $10 U.S. per
album. If you purchase a monthly membership, you can get most track for
between $.49 and $.99 They have some pretty good specials from time to time.

You do need to download and install a Download Manager from their site which is
inaccessible, but once you get it installed, you don't really need to do
anything with it. For the most part, the site is accessible though they're
running a contest right now that is not and the Customer Service is terrible,
but I seldom need to deal with them.

Sorry about the delay in answering your question. You would use the f3
and f4 commands to mark where you want to make cuts. You mark the
beginning of where you want to cut, then use your navigation commands to
go forward to the end of where you want to cut, and press f4, then delete.
You can, btw, decide which commands you wish to use for navigating
through the video under the navigation tab in the prefferences under
tools. For instance, You can move one minute at a time with
control+right or left arrow, every ten seconds with shift+ctrl+right or
left arrow, and so forth.

RE: Video Redo

2012-08-23 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Ah, that was Joy.

In an earlier version, you simply navigated to the beginning of the commercial,
set a mark. Move to the end of the commercial hit an end mark and then right
click and move down to remove or something like that. It's been quite a while
since I've played with it and it was an earlier version.

I have recorded that show in the past for my children without a problem. I

windows media center only records 1 minute or so and stops automaticly.
it only does this with this show is there some sort of recording flag
that is being sent to windows media center by disney channel not
allowing it to record the show?
this is the only show this happens with.

What appears on that list will depend upon what media players/burners/rippers
you have on your computer. If you have a burner of choice, you should probably

have a couple of questions:
1. I've heard, that when you put a cd into your cd/dvd drive, a window
pops up, asking you what you want windows to do, and it gives you four

a take no action
b open windows explorer folder, (or something like that)
and I can't remember what the other two options are at the moment.
Which of these four options should I select? Thanks.

Whether there are discrete separate channels or merely reassigned portions, it
still gives a slightly more immersive sound.

They are now offering 7.2 channels with some receivers. I think the second
speaker in back sits up higher to again give more depth and location signature.
I haven't heard such a set up to tell though.

Even with my old 5.1 disks, the sound seems fuller even if it's not really.

Ah okay then. Cool. I would be using BDs though. I guess the point of what
those guys say is as follows. Let's take Jurrasic Park for an example. We
all know the movie was recorded in 5.1, there fore there are only 5
different files assigned to the 5 different speakers. They didn't really add
anything new assignments for the 2 extra, so I guess what they are saying
even with your example is you are hearing the same thing you've always heard
out of the 2 side speakers I guess it would be, but now from the back too? I
don't know, like I have said, I haven't really experienced this my self. My
friend who has a 7.1 system lives too far to just say, let's go over to Tims
and see what's true and what's not. But what I'm saying is, I don't know,
maybe I should consider a 7.1 system if it is true and then I do miss out
on stuff. I don't know. If any of you have heard a 7.1 movie, please let me
know either here or off list if it really true, or if it's just marketing
hipe like those guys say.

While connected to a Bluetooth device, hold down the up and down volume
buttons. It will say live audio mode when the features engages. To disengage

The volume will noticeably drop when live audio mode is engaged. It does not

RE: express burn

2012-01-25 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
I think that when you go to the NCH web site through the purchase link, you are
presented with various options such as basic or plus and various other program
bundles. They're pushing the plus version so it will be hard to miss that
option.

I believe that you can simply install over your current version without a
problem. If you're concerned, remove the old one and install the new one.

If you want to keep using your demo version without the fancy features, I think
you can do that. What you do is go to the Add/Remove utility, find Express
Burn and then when you are on the remove button, you should be able to arrow
up or down to use Express Burn or something like that. It will still work as
the demo. If you want the additional features, then you'll have to buy the
program and some of those features are pretty nice to have.

Good luck.

RE: burning a dtat disk with express burn

2011-09-23 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Casy,

It sounds as if want you want to do is to burn .mp3 tracks to an audio disk.
It doesn't sound as if you really want to burn a data disk or .mp3 disk.

If that's what you want to do, do not selection data disk, select audio disk.
Express Burn will perform the conversion automatically and will put the tracks
in the proper form for playing on a regular cd player.

I'm wondering a little about the number of tracks you want to burn. If you are
really burning an .mp3 disk/data disk, then 31 tracks isn't out of the
question. However, depending upon the size and length of the tracks, if you're
burning them to an audio disk, 31 might be a a lot for a standard cd. If the
tracks are short, say like songs from the 1950s, that might work out.

If you really do want to burn a data disk, yes, you can give it whatever label
you wish. It will say buring an isa disk. In the burning process, it goes
through and prepares the and burns the tracks, pops the drawer open, sucks the
disk back in and verifies the burn. I mention this so it doesn't surprise you!

Good luck with your project. I hope I haven't confused things for you.

Clifford

A data cd is essentially the same as an .mp3 cd. Whether it will play in your

From reading at the Gizmo site, they've started bundling Open Candy with this

 Hi gang,

I've probably asked this before, but I'm wondering what I could do to
access my music library from my laptop to stream the music remotely.
Is there some sort of server type application I could get? FTP isn't
really an option as I can't forward a port from this desktop, it's on
a university network. It would be nice to copy music somehow, but if I
can stream it, that would work too. This is new territory for me so if
I haven't provided enough info, please let me know.

RE: powered desktop speakers

2011-08-17 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Yes there is a rather good sized sub-woofer into which the additional speakers
connection and the sub plugs into the output jack of the computer.

I like my rock and roll so volume is important. However, I also listen to a
lot of acoustic music i.e. folk, choral and world music. The SoundSticks have
a nice transparency.

The design is quite striking as the tweeters are about a foot tall columns.
There is a touch control on either side of a sound port on the right hand
speaker column to raise and lower the volume. The sub is shaped somewhat like
a small bee hive and sits on small legs. The sub definitely needs to be on a
hard flat surface rather than on thick carpeting to get the best effect of the
sub.

I have the Sound Sticks 2 version. A remote control would be a nice addition,
but I don't know if they've added one or not. I've never tried comparing these
to other higher end computer speakers and the B and W's do sound as if they'd
be awesome. However the price on those is prohibitive for me while the
SoundSticks were only a mild stretch!

Good luck with you choice and let the list know what you choose and how you
like them.

This was also one of the systems I have been reading about. Volume to me is
not the issu but most definitely the sound quality is. I listen to quite a
lot of acoustic music for example.

I believe this system has a small subwhoofer included? Is this correct?

The speakers are

M-Audio Studiophile AV 40

Creative gigaworks t40 and

Yes I realize that they are kind of pricy. The BW system is by far the
most expensive but I like the idea of a built-in digital to audio converter.

I'm late to this thread, but it looks to me as if the original file is likely
in a compressed format.

A standard 700 meg disk usually gives you approximately 1 hour 20 minutes of
recording time. So if iTunes says it's almost an hour and a half, she'll need
two disks, but there will be a fair amount of space leaft over.

RE: express burn help neededplease

2011-03-28 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Mybe this will help.

1. Hit alt+f to bring up the file menu. The first option will be to select
the type of disk you want to create i.e. music, data, etc. Hit enter and enter
again.

2. You will be back in the program's main menu. tab down to add files or
folder depending upon which you want. If adding files, you will need to repeat
the process several times to make sure you've got the tracks you want.

3. Once you've finished adding files or folders tab down and set any options
you wish such as normalize of cd track info.

4. tab to the burn button and hit enter. It seems to me that either you hit
enter or use the spacebar. One or the other works and the other doesn't.

5. This brings up a menu with number of copies and burn speed. Make your
selections and again tab to burn and trigger the button. Assuming you have a
disk in the drive it should burn. If you don't already have a disk in the
drive, it will prompt you to put a disk and then you'll have to verify the
selections.

Good luck.

RE: Software Question

2010-12-16 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Kris,

Light Scribe is a combination of software and hardware as someone previously
noted. You must have a Light Scribe capable drivein your computer or as an
external drive. Assuming that you have that, your computer may already have
the software for burning labels onto Light Scribe disks. You have to have
special disks, however, they are readily available and are not much more
expensive than regular writeable or rewriteable disks.

If you have Light Scribe label burning software on your computer already, it
might come as part of Nero or Sonic Record Now or other cd burning programs.
You can buy specifically designed labelling programs, but I've found these
mostly to be too graphical in nature to use easily as a blind person.

You can get a variety of Light Scribe software packages including system
software and labelling programs for free at lightscribe.org

After you have burned music or data onto a Light Scribe disk, you flip the disk
over in the drive and load the labelling program. Fill out the edit boxes and
burn the label. I'm told that often the labels are a little faint, but you can
burn over the label a second time to darken the label print.

If you have other questions, please let me know.

RE: Purchasing Music

2010-11-03 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Kim,

I'm not sure what the issue with the Amazon Download Manager is that you're
describing. Once you install it, it's operation is pretty much automatic. The
one trick that you have to remember is that instead of clicking on save when
you're getting ready to download an album, you must click open. Once you do
that, the download begins and the files are place in an Amazon folder in the My
Music folder. The Download Manager will also open Windows Media Player to
place a link to the file in the Media Player library.

Hope this helps.

Clifford

How accessible is the amazon downloader? I downloaded it and found it hard

If anyone has tips on how to use the MP3 downloader, it would be greatly

In addition to what Mary said, it doesn't cost anything to download and
install the Amazon mp3 downloader or ITunes. you need to have an account

Amazon lets you buy an awful lot of single songs. Have you checked in
their mp3 section? also, Itunes does the same. Those are the two that
 come to mind.

RE: Crackling, staticky cound on my laptop

2010-06-17 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Even a small battery powered pair of speakers may help if it's the internal
speakers causing the problem. If it's not the speakers themselves or the
internal connection, it may be a problem with the sound card.

To help maintain the portability of your laptop, you might look at a pair of
small Logictech usb speakers that get their power from the usb port. I've seem
a number of these on sale at the Logitech site for around $10.

If it's a problem with your sound card and you've gotten the latest drivers,
then you might need to look at an external sound card. Have you always had
this crackling or has it started recently? If a recent event, what did you
install around the time you started noticing the problem? Did you install the
new drivers to get rid of the crackling or did you install them before the
crackling began?

2010-06-17 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
It sounds as if it's bad speaker connections or speakers then. Either a usb
powered external speaker or speaker pair or external speakers that plug into
the headphone jack may be you're best answer.

I know on a netbook I bought, the speakers are ok at low to moderate levels,
but anything that pushes the speakers hard, results in distortion.

Can you adjust the tone balance to reduce bass? If so shifting the sound more
towards the high ends might reduce the crackling some.

how to adjust buffering

2010-05-28 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
I was listening to a stream of one of the NHL hockey games the other night and
it was clear that the stream was buffering. The stream would play and then cut
off of a couple of seconds and then play again for a little while and then cut
off, etc. I assume this is a problem with the size of the buffer.

I'm using an xp netbook with 1 gig memory and the 1.6 atm processor.

How would I adjust the size of the buffer to make the stream play more smoothly?

RE: Hi, I'm a new list member

2010-01-26 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Hello Mike,

Before trying to give some help, I have a question. Are you wanting to copy
whole cds or individual tracks or both? If what you really want is to
supplement your personal collection, then finding a piece of software that will
directly copy a disk would be your best bet. Try looking at
http://www.jaws-users.com or http://www.blind-computing.com for free or low
cost software to perform direct copying of a cd.

If, however, you want to access your music on your computer in .wav or some
compressed format such as .mp3 or .wma, you will first need to rip the tracks
from the disk to your computer. I can only give generally directions for using
WMP for this as it's not how I do it. You can use WMP or a variety of free or
for cost programs to performing the ripping part.

I think in WMP, you place your source disk in the disk drive, and go to the rip
menu in WMP. There you will have various selections to make as to quality and
format.. Generally speaking, the higher the sampling rate, the better the
quality, but the larger the file size. When you rip the tracks to your
harddrive, they will generally wind up in the My Music folder of you’re my
Documents folder. I believe that you can set WMP to automatically rip the
tracks of any previously unripped disk when you put a disk in your disk drive.

I'm going to beg off trying to describe how to burn disks in WMP, as I've never
really figured that out myself. I believe you should be able to find a
tutorial on either of the pages I previously provided.

Sorry if this is a bit sketchy, but the considerations are one you need to make
to help us give you more info. Use the sources of info at Jaws-users and
blind-computing, they're great. There is an exceptionally good tutorial on the
use of WMP.

As far as speed of burning, my experience has been that a lower burn rate than
the highest yields the best results. I would suggest medium or fast instead of
fastest.

Good luck starting out.

Hello,I just subscribed to the pc-audio mailing list today, and just
wanted to introduce myself. My name is Mike. I live in the western New
York area, Rochester, NY. to be exact. Although I have good computer
skills, I’m no computer geek. I serve as a volunteer dj at a local
community college, to which I’m also a student of here in Rochester.
I’m interested in learning about how to burn audio cds, so that I can
supplement my existing physical cd library.
I'm currently using Windows xp and Windows media player 11. To be
completely honest, I've never, ever burnt a cd before in my life, and
don't know the first thing about doing that stuff. Sometimes digital
technology can be very overwhelming, even for a young person like
myself. If any of you have ever done it, could someone give me
step-by-step instructions, as to an accessible way to burn audio cds
that will play in any cd player, using wmp 11? The screen reader I’m
currently using, is Window-eyes 6.1. Basically, I'd like to know how to
burn an audio cd in wmp 11 using just the keyboard itself, I'd prefer
not to mess with the mouse. Finally, in windows media player 11, I’ve
noticed, that in the burn menu, I am given four options for the speed
of the burning process:
1. fastest
2. fast
3. medium
4. slow. Is it necessary to adjust the burn speed? And also in the
drop-down menu within this same dialog, it says, “add a list of all
burned files to the disc in this format. The top-most option in this
menu, is .wpl, and it’s selected by default. What does this mean? I'm
looking forward to talking with all of you on the list.
Mike
Rochester, NY.
P.S. Just for clairification, are the built-in utility found in Windows
xp and windows media player two different programs? Or is the utility
part of windows media player. I already know, that windows media player
automatically inserts seconds of silence between audio tracks, but is
there any way to turn that option off? For example, what if I’m burning
an album, which already has seconds of silence between the tracks. Is
there any way to prevent the player from inserting silence between
tracks when burning?

RE: MEDIA CENTER COMPUTER

2010-01-08 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Back to my work computer!

I watch through the computer monitor. Although as I said in an earlier post,
the monitor can double as a stand alone tv.

The set up routine in the Windows XP Media Center doesn't read very well
especially in the area of setting up speakers. There are some other things
that don't read, but selecting the default can get you through. As I recall,
there is one thing you need to check for getting the Guide updated that if not
checked tosses you out and I needed some help with that.

I use Jaws so I don't know how set up might go with Windows Eyes or System
Access. It's been around a year since I had to set up anything.

If you go with a Windows Media Center, remember that it's fairly tightly bound
to the hardware and software that comes bundled. It comes with a version of
Sonic and Nero for some of the cd and dvd related functions. When I first got
mine, I tried to load an old copy of Roxio Easy CD Creater and it turned the
computer into a jabbering paperweight. I had to do a reinstall from the
restore disks to get things right. However, I've since added cd burners like
Express burn and other programs without a problem. I guess make sure that
you're backed up before you try adding something.

Good luck. I really like and enjoy my Media Center and it has been great to be
able to record things while away for a weekend, etc.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Yes, when you enter Media Center, you click on My TV. That brings up
options for watching live, watching a previously recorded show or the
Guide. The Guide is a table arrangemnt of times and channels. You can
arrow along a channel for up to a few days and clicking on a show in the
future will give you the option to record a single episode or the series
at the same time every day.

On the other access, you can find the time you're interested in and arrow
up or down and see what's on each channel. Reading the times is a little
more difficult, but you can get the hand of it.

In addition to the My TV option, there's My Music, DVD, Photoos, and
 a few more.

Initial set up may require some sighted help especially if you're setting
 up a surround sound system.

I use a 15 Phillips tv as my monitor. I generally leave it set so that
the Media Center runs through it. However, by pushing a couple of buttons
on the tv, I can use the tv independently of the computer.

The card that came with mine is a single source card so you can watch one
show and record one other channel at the same time. I believe you can get
cards that allow you to record a couple of things at the same time while
 watching a third.

Recording shows takes up lots of space so get a system with as large a
hard drive as you can and back up the shows or move them to another drive
so they don't record over themselves!

Once a show is recorded, you can edit out commercials using a program like
Vide Redo Suite or Lifextender. The second is only availabe of Vista so
 far as I know.

I probably record three or four shows a day for my kids and they
accummulate up to about 50 shows before they start recording over
themselves. So once a week I either edit the commercials out and save the
resultant file to a dvd or to another drive or move some of the recorded
shows until I can find the time for editing.

I don't know about how well this works in VISTA or Windows 7 machines, but
in my XP Media Center, it's pretty flawless.

Let me know if you have more questions. Sorry that I'm responding from a
 different address.

I don't know of where to go, but I use an XP Media Center computer with Jaws

I've heard that there may be a little less functionality with VISTA or Windows
7 Media Center computers, but can't attest to that.

If you have questions, I'll try to answer them.

Though I can easily find tv programs, record them and play them back and play
dvds, I can't say that the interface for other functions isn't a little clunky
from time to time.

A friend sent me an article indicating that the same operating system used in
the new Iphone gs is also present in the Ipod Touch. Given the accessibility
features in the new Iphone, does anyone know if they are also present in the
Ipod Touch? If so, that would be a portable device worth looking at.

Subject: Downloadable audio book source - Left Behind

Hi
Some of you may be aware of the Left Behind Series books.
For a long time now I've been trying to finish reading the series but can't get
a hold of the books. audible.co.uk don't have the full set, whereas audible.com
does - I can't join the latter as I live in the UK.
The books I'm looking for are the prequels and sequel - The Rising, The Regime,
The Rapture and Kingdom Come - all in unabridged format.
Google searches aren't helpful Can anyone suggest another site from which they
can be purchased and downloaded?
Thanks.

RE: Is it possible to edit video?

2009-02-27 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
I have heard of an addition program for Vista users call Lifxtender or
something close to that. The review I read says it's exceptional fast
and accurate. However, it's not available for XP and that's what I use.

If anyone tries it let us know how it works.

With Video Redo, I tend to use the mark and cut commands from the
context menu rather than the f3 and f4 keys.

I love that I can actually mannually delete the comercials with the help
of the mark keys, (f3 and f4) and deleting each cut, although, I'm
trying to get used to the fact that the cuts are not automaticly deleted
when moving through, thus giving us what it should look like with the
cuts deleted.
Other than that, this thing rocks compared to one other video editor
I've played with, Nero Vision express.

As I'm totally blind that's mostly what I'm interested in. I use Total

However, there's a couple of programmes that my sister, who is

RE: Printing on CD label --LightScribe

2008-12-09 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Your source is wrong on a couple of counts. First disks are not so
expensive as he indicates. Second, you can get disks in a variety of
colors and the labels are not at all difficult to read.

If you have ink jet printable technology with you printer, that is fine,
but it generally comes at a cost.

Hi Peter,

No. The drives I and most people use are not Lightscribe enabled I
can get them
but the technology is all but dead see the following reasons

1, Burners are around $20 more.
2, Disks are more than double the price of inkjet printable disks.
3, Most mid range inkjet printers print directly to disks and can be
very colorful and easy to read.
3, Lightscribed disks are hard to read, one shade of silver or gold.
4, Your canon MP760 prints directly to inkjet disks now for free

RE: Printing on CD label --LightScribe

2008-12-08 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Peter and Gary,

You've been pointed to Chip Orange's excellent template for printing
Avory cd/dvd labels in Word. However, that does not actually print on
the cd or dvd.

The LightScribe technology allows one to burn a simple or quite
elaborate label on the label side of a LightScribe enabled disk with the
appropriate software and a LightScribe enabled cd/dvd burner.

Essentially, you burn the music or data to your disk using whatever
program you are accustomed to using. When that is done, flip the disk
over in the burner and go into your labelling program. There are free
stand alone programs that you can get at

http://www.lightscribe.org

Or many cd burning programs such as Nero or Roxio include LightScribe
labelling in their laebl creation sub-programs.

I use a simple stand alone program from the LightScribe site. You enter
the program, fill into a couple fields of information i.e. artist and
disk name, hit next and then burn label and in a couple of minutes
you have a print quality label on the disk.

As mentioned about, you need a LightScribe enabled burner and
LightScribe enabled disk. They are virtually the same cost as regular
high quality disks.

There was a compeating technology released at the same time as
LightScribe, but I haven't heard anything more about it in the last
couple of years.

RE: is lightscribe accessible?

2008-11-07 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Yes it is. If you go to lightscribe.org and download LightScribe Simple
Labeller, you can write a label on the disk. You probably can't include
all the track names, but you can easily put your name and the name of
the disk.

You need a burner that is enabled with LightScribe and disks that are
LightScribe enabled.

When you are done burning the music to the disk, flip the disk over in
the same drive and go to the LightScribe burning program. Open it and
follow the prompts.

There are other LightScribe programs that permit creation of fancier
disk labels, but I haven't tried those.

Sonic and Nero and I presume Roxio all have LightScribe labelling
components to them.

Can one rip to a flash drive

2008-10-22 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
I've been trying to send a friend some music on a flash drive. She only
wants it in .wav. I know it would be so much easier in .mp3, but she's
a sound snob!

How is the best way to get .wav files on to a flash drive? I tried
ripping them with Windows Media Player 9 and the current beta of CDEX,
but nothing shows up even though I've specified the correct drive.

What am I doing wrong, if anything? Can I simply copy and paste the
files from my hard drive to the flash drive?

Thanks for any help.
