Using Video TV Tuner cards
Hi! I've been using a Leadtek HDTR2000 card here for over 2 years, I've been happy with results from the digital TV tuner over all howver some recent changes I made here have made the performance of the device absolutely superb, no doubt about it. The changes were simple and on the whole worth every penny I paid so what did I do? I bought and relaid cable from the tuner to my TV aerial, made in incredible difference and believe me! when you're recording or watching TV you want the best quality you can get in cable given that you're probably using computers in your house which do interfere with digital TV reception if poor quality cable is used. When using digital TV, I discovered that the cable used is of a different grade to that used with the old analogue systems we had, one could go all the way and install a completely new aerial system optimised for Digital TV? Well that will come next year. Seasons greetings to you all. To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Re: PC TV Tuner Cards compatible with Nero Liquid TV
Is Nero Liquid TV accessible with Jaws? I installed it on my computer because I have an internal tv tuner card and Windows Media Center, which isn't very Jaws-friendly, is broken. I couldn't get Liquid TV to say anything to me. In fact, I was thinking of asking if anyone knew of a good tv tuner card (internal) and software that would run it and be a bit more user-friendly. TV tuner cards, finally got one and I'm very happy!
Hi Everyone! I got myself a Leadtech TV tuner card on Wednesday and thus far I'm extremely happy with it, yes the access to the software could be a little better but at $120.00 for a HD tuner card? Well I guess you get what you pay for and (if you're patient and prepared to learn the software) then you can use many of the tuners features, I've only been playing with this for less than 3 days so I'm bound to keep finding out more. Firstly, if you're a Window-eyes or JAWS user then you're going to need to use the mouse pointer or JAWS cursor a fair bit to navigate around but my answer to this is simple, at least these 2 pieces of software provide you with the tools to navigate and when you use these tools, you'll find access to the software quite easy, let's take a small example. The PVR which comes bundled with this tuner has many shortcuts and they help, for instance if you load the PVR and press f9 the Scheduler pops up, move the mouse to the top left of the window and scroll down, the first button you come to is the Add button, scroll down again and you come to the edit button and so forth. Ok, click on the add button and a new schedule page appears, fill in the details as required such as starting time, ending time, channel and so forth, you can navigate the various combo edit boxes in the schedule page, once you've completed the page press ok, you'll have to find the ok button to quit the scheduler altogether with the mouse pointer but again that's not too difficult, something you can do with the find command. By default, video is captured from the tuner in MPG (uncompressed video) format so be prepared to use a fair bit of disk space but this has its advantages, you can compress the video to your liking or (if you have sighted assistance smile), you can perform editing jobs on what you've recorded. Well that's about as far as I've gone for now, I have the card on trial but I'm going to buy it, just for the scheduler alone I think its worth the money and the picture is absolutely superb according to people who have looked at it. This card will record both analogue and digital HDTV as well as FM radio but I've not even looked at this, I have enough FM radio devices in my house thanks very much and in any case, I prefer to use my Radio Shark from Griffin Technology as its far more convenient. I'll be happy to answer further questions if I can and (when I remember it) I'll supply the list with the model number of the card. Ah yes and before I forget to tell you, the card processes the video its recording on-board and it can start up your computer from standby or hybonate modes. ** Dane Trethowan From Melton Victoria Australia mailto:Dane Trethowan [EMAIL PROTECTED] phone +61 3 8732 9237 Fax/TTY +61 3 9743 7954 mobile/sms: +614 418 773 532 MSN: [EMAIL PROTECTED] skype: callto:grtdane12 ** Jonathan Mosen List Founder Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It looks like it's an analog dongle but KWorld does have some digital products. I did a quick search on Yahoo! and I saw some digital dongles. It doesn't look like they come with the same PVR-Plus software that the analog dongles come with, so there's no telling how accessible it would be. Re: TV tuner cards:
As I said, I got it from Frye's at one of those after Thanksgiving Day or after Christmas Day sales. I think it cost $20 after rebate, although it might have been free after rebate. Unfortunately, I don't see a model number on the unit itself. Sorry I don't have more information, but my point was that TV tuners on a USB dongle do exist. Hi Terri, I think the best way to get a TV tuner card for a laptop is to use one that plugs into an USB port. There are also TV tuner cards made specifically for laptops, but I don't know too much aboutthese. High Terry, I don't mean to sound cruel, but whoever told you that, they told you a lie. If the notebook has USB ports, then you can use a USB TV tuner card on it. As for witch one to buy, I haven't explored that territory as of yet. But I will keep all of you posted when I do. I'd use Replay converter but Snapstream likes to record mpeg-2 which Replay won't support. I can't seem to move stuff up and down the list so that the stuff I record from cable that repeats over and over takes a back seat to a show on a local channel that airs once a week. I made the mistake of hitting record always in the web interface, and it does just that at all cost. - Original Message - From: Chris Skarstad [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Tuesday, September 12, 2006 2:38 PM Subject: Re: TV Tuner Cards Programmer Wants to Help us I bet this is from the replay folks, right? Question about TV tuner cards, and recording TV
Hello everyone, I know these sorts of questions have been asked on this list, time and time again. But I'm hoping that you all won't mind answering them yet again. A while back, I thought that someone on this list, talked about a program that you could use to record TV shows, using your computer. Unfortunately though, I can't remember who brought this up. They gave a website. If possible, could this person post this info again? And could you possibly give some pointers on how to use this program? If you'd rather write me off-list, then that would be fine. I'll post my email address at the end of this message. Also, I'm interested in some information about different TV tuner cards. Are there major differences in them? Can some of them do more, or offer more, than others can? I've been trying to find out some of this info on my own, but I haven't had too much luck. I'm not sure what a good resource is, to learn about this sort of thing. And when I did a Google search, I got way too much info. Some of which wasn't helpful at all. This new card I can't comment on just yet since we're still getting parts together for this new machine and i won't be able to comment on the new machine till the beginning of 2004 but let me say that the all in wonder is rated quite high. It's all video and a tv stereo tuner card so it would be a good one. Always try and think about what you'd like and what you are willing to spend. I haven't built a new system in 3 years and it's time for me although this machine runs fantastic but time to update to new and hopefully greater technology. Look at it this way if you put in cheap fans they will give you trouble. My honest recommendation for products is Outpost.com which is Frys Electronics. They can sell you stuff at great prices for the most part. We have built oh goodness dozens of systems on my dining room table for people and rarely have we ever had to return stuff to frys. Pinical makes a great card for around 80. I understand the software is quite excessible. it's a tv tuner card with video. Now if tv tuning is not your interest then you can find video cards for 12 bucks but be aware that you will want to make sure that your mother board will support the card. I hope this info is helpful. d*** REPLY SEPARATOR *** On 10/4/2004 at 9:49 PM Donald L. Hi, Ok, this clears things up some what. Does the software to record programming record both audio and vidio to the computers HD? Can you opt for audio only, if you choose? Does any blind friendly recording software allow for shut down after recording? Again, thanks. At 11:29 PM 10/4/2004 -0400, you wrote: Hi. Hi. You can record Audio, video, or both to the HD. I generally use a standard audio recording program to record audio, and a program like Snapstream's Beyond TV http://www.snapstream.net To record both audio and video. I don't know about shutting down after recording. Why not just use the task scheduler, or some other scheduling package, to schedule a shutdown? If you mean stopping the recording at a preset time, many audio recorders offer this. Snapstream can also start and stop recording audio and video at a certain time. Hi Don. I don't know if this is out yet, but I understand that Panasonic was going to make an accessible DVD recorder. I hear that Panasonic is dedicated to creating accessible products for the blind. - Original Message - From: Donald L. Re: Tv Tuner Cards
Hi. I really can't tell you if these things are accessible with jaws because i've never had the chance to use it with my Pinnacle card. As for onscreen headlines, yes, i've tried it before and it works a charm. Btw, I went over to the website yesterday, and I read that they've resolved the issue with the sound blaster series. But their advice is that end users should use it with the audigi series rather then the sblive series. Cheers! - Original Message - From: G. McFarlane [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. I have an Asus FM/TV tuner card which worked quite well for a while (now stopped for no reason) I did how3ever find the Power VCR software very difficult as it was accessible but only in certain parts and relied upon the Jaws cursor a lot. I hagve also heard that the Hauppage software is good - as good as the Pinnacle though? Also do any of these programs allow us to access an EPG on a website so that we can choose a programme and have it recorded easily? One final question. What is the name of the Pinnacle card and software and if anyone has a Hauppage one what is its name and number? Thanks. I have a Pinnacle card. Yes, the software is very accessible with window eyes, and i too am a window eyes user. However, i've heard that because these cards take up alot of resources, and so does the SBLive series, there is often a conflict between the 2. I myself have a delta 10-10 installed, and the delta and the Pinnicle seems to have struck up a very good relationship. Also, there was a time when your pc would hang if you were watching tv for like a couple of hours, and the pc was inactive and the screen saver came into effect. This bug seems to have been squashed, and i can now watch tv, check my mail, and concentrate on learning programming, all at the same time without fear of my pc hanging. Also, and this is very important, i can access all the broadcasts, whether they be on VHF, UHF or cable. All in all, I am extremely happy with my Pinnacle tv tuner card.
