Is that a banana peel, and ankh, or are you just happy to see me?

Seriously, I like #1. It has to be in colour (BW just doesn't cut it
in this case - odd tho' that might be to hear from me), and I like the
more contrasty look to the first one.

Fun shot!

Hi Christine,

Came in late...but this version is great. The color is too nice to be
converted to BW but the blue is too, well blue. This one settles

OT: Chicago Lakefront (Was Re: PESO Egyptian on the Rocks)

2009-03-29 Thread Paul Stenquist
BTW, as a Southeast side boy, I grew up at Rainbow Beach on 77th and
South Shore Drive. As teenagers, my friends and I sat on the wall at
the edge of the sand for most of the summer and flirted with the
girls. As we grew older we would try to have our dates conclude in
what was known as the overflow parking lot, an unpaved adjunct to the
regular beach parking that looked out on the water. Today I'm a member
of two Google groups called "The Overflow" and "The Overflow Pub and
Coffee Shop." They're devoted to the history of Rainbow Beach, South
Shore, Avalon Park and surrounding neighborhoods, and serve as a place
for old friends to get reacquainted. The group maintains a list known
as "The Wall," where deceased southeast side folks are memorialized.
In typical southside fashion we frequently referred to our
neighborhoods by parish names: Brides, Felicitas, Neri and OLP. (Short
for St. Brides, St. Felicitas, St. Philip Neri, and Our Lady of
Peace). That was the way it was down there and back then.

When my mother was young and lived in Hyde Park near the shore, the
stones were piled along the quarried stone was piled along the shore
in disarray. that would have been the late twenties. I think they were
arranged into neat steps some time in the thirties. It may have been a
WPA project.

I think you nailed the color on that one.

Something that might be worth a try is to crop it somewhere near to
the crack in the wall on the left, and just to the right of the sun on
the right. I'd also consider trimming a bit more off the bottom.

I'd say that the drawing and the sun are the main elements, and I'd
trim away most of the rest.

Much better. Have you looked at a vertical crop with the figure to left

Nice subject.

I think the first rendering but, like Larry, I find it a bit too blue
particularly on the foreground and the rocks on the left.

It's a cute drawing. On my crappy work monitor, I'd say somewhere
between the first and the second. I like the saturation of the first,
but on this monitor it comes off as a bit too blue.

PESO Egyptian on the Rocks

2009-03-27 Thread Christine Aguila
Hi Everyone: I found some painted art on the rocks & some playful light
along the Lake Michigan shore on a short photowalk last Saturday. There are
3 different renderings here. I'd be interested in knowing if you had a
preference. The 2nd rendering is pretty much as seen--as they say :-).
