Markus, Is the package postgis-gui (or postgis-2.0-gui) still available with all your updates? Regards, Alan On 13-10-02 01:11 AM, Markus Wanner wrote: Christoph, Marco, I renamed the scripts package(s) to exclude the postgis version. That hopefully simplifies packaging newer PostGIS versions in the future. And keeps us from having to maintain an increasing amount of transitional packages. I tweaked the can safely be removed wording in the long description a bit. However, please also keep in mind that the upgrade already makes postgis-2.0 un-creatable. A postgis-2.0 package installed, the transitional package cannot be removed due its dependency, though. As discussed, I also automated the creation of .postinst, .templates, and .config files for all transitional *-postgis-2.0-scripts packages. Meaning these get created from debian/rules at build time. I figured we best use debian/pgversions and subtract the Postgres versions that were not supported by the former Postgis version. So that we don't create postgresql-9.3-postgis-2.0-scripts, for example. This however means we don't create postgresql-8.4-postgis-2.0-scripts, either. Which I think is a good thing. Upon upgrade, the user won't get a warning for 8.4-postgis-2.0, that way. I'd argue that's okay, as the extension provided by postgresql-8.4-postgis-2.0{,-scripts} can continue to work perfectly fine (including scripts), because there's no postgis-2.1-scripts package to override it. And Debian usually doesn't emit a notice in case support for a package runs out... That also saves us from doing tricks with determining the set of old PG versions supported depending on pgdg vs Debian proper. Note: on Debian, this also means we don't ship a transitional postgresql-9.1-postgis-2.0-scripts package. Its postgis 2.0 will continue to work just fine. Once you add the pgapt repository and upgrade, you'd still get that notice, though (and the breakage). What I didn't look at are translations. Lintian emits a warning, but other than that, upgrades present me the English message. Given the notice doesn't ever appear on Debian proper, so far, can we do without translations (i.e. for pgapt)? On top of that, I've been unable to merge the debconf templates. My testing seems to indicate you cannot have a common 'templates' file shared between multiple packages. If you know of a way to do that, please let me know. In any case, due to the automatic generation, they all stem from a single postgresql-generic-postgis-2.0-scripts.templates.in, anyways, now. However, this might make translations even harder... Does this all make sense to you? Did I miss anything? Can I finalize 2.1.0-4 for upload to unstable? (Which again needs a sponsor due to the renaming). Markus, I think this was a very minor change we did in the Ubuntu package, and probably not push in the git. However, i still think that it would be good to split. From several postings here I had the impression that Debian resources might be underestimated / rarely used. Not sure what you mean. We extensively use the work of the DebianGIS team. However, we won't ask them to do the ubuntu tasks. However, we don't decide when a new release is uploaded to unstable. Well, the question is whether this is actually a *decision* or rather a matter of time resources. Francesco is the administrator of DebianGIS. I know Francesco from some DebConfs in the past and I think he would not mind to get some helping hand. While Debian GIS is not my main focus and I'm quite far from considering myself as a GIS expert my OSM activities have brought me closer to Debian GIS and I'd be happy to sponsor packages after coordination with Francesco. I have no idea who strict he considers his administrator role but from my experience in other teams structures in Debian are rather flat - provided that you are not breaking anything it is fine to do something instead of waiting until somebody else have done it. That would be very nice. Francesco has probably a lot more to do in addition of DebianGIS... and I have the same problem. I would be happy if someone could put some time in DebianGIS and UbuntuGIS. The DebianGIS process is also longer... so the softwares are not immediately pushed in unstable. This is exactly the point where I would like to help if anyhow possible. To start with this help I also ported the Debian GIS thermometer once written by Francesco most probably in the intention to make the cooperation more effective: http://blends.alioth.debian.org/gis/thermometer/ubuntu_debian-gis_thermometer.html The port is using common Debian Blends techniques and I think I provided some extra features not available previously. So I'm quite serious to support the DebianGIS - UbuntuGIS cooperation to the best of my skills. Any ideas how I can be of more help are perfectly welcome. Great. I wonder if we could do an irc meeting with all debiangis and ubuntugis members. Talking together, we could probably figure out how everyone can help to. What do you think Francesco? Fixed! Note that the mapserver package has been committed but not tested under debian unstable. I do not have anymore development environment for debian/unstable at the moment. Re: [DebianGIS-dev] Help with postgis and backport to lenny using pbuilder
Stephen, I took a quick look and there is effectively an error in the rules_lenny file. The sed commands executed are simply deprecated. Check the rules file from the svn: http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-grass/packages/postgis/trunk/debian/rules . In the # Create custom main scripts section, replace the sed commands in the rules_lenny file by those from the rules file. I'm going to take care to apply those changes in svn this week. Errors were encountered while processing: postgis I have attached the postgis_1.5.1-1_amd64.build.gz from the pdebuild. I think this might be because the control_lenny file has BOTH postgresql-server-dev-8.3, postgresql-server-dev-8.4 as Build-Depends for postgis. That is ok, the package is made to build the postgis extension for both versions. Would this not then require BOTH libpq5 8.4~0cvs20090328 from postgresql-8.4 libpq5 8.3.9-0lenny1from postgresql-8.3 to be part of the dependencies, probably with the later one winning or whatever? No. libpq5 is the library that allows user programs to communicate with a postgresql server. The version of libpq5 =8.4 is compatible to communicate with servers from PostgreSQL 8.2 or later. So it's all right that the postgis package has libpq5 =8.4.x as dependency. Any ideas how to fix this? Does the control file need to be split into two files one for postgresql-8.3 and one for postgresql-8.4? would the rules file need to changes also or instead of the control file? As I said, the control and rule files are ok and build the extension for postgresql 8.3 and 8.4. I've put a lot of time and effort into trying to resolve this, but I just don't know that much about building debian packages. Reall need to guidance and help on this one. Re: [DebianGIS-dev] Help with postgis and backport to lenny using pbuilder
Hi Stephen, Just a quick thing you could try: apt-get install -f , this should install the missing dependency and continue the postgis package installation normally. Be sure you have lenny-backports in you sources.list because the libpq5 version 8.4 is there. Note that dpkg will never download and install missing dependencies, it's not its job. It's the apt-get job. That's why you have to call apt-get to fix things and continue what dpkg started before. You can also take a look at the gdebi utility. It's a tool to install a .deb file and it *should* (never used it much) call apt-get itself to solve missing dependencies. see also my comments below Stephen Woodbridge wrote: Hi all, I have just found pbuilder and I'm using it with the pkg-grass debian package definitions for geos-3.2.0 and postgis-1.5.1 building packages for lenny. This is all very cool and makes things soo much easier. I am also using some packages backports.org. So, I have gotten things setup and have been able to build packages, but postgis and postgresql-8.3-postgis will not install giving the following error: wood...@mappy:/u/local/src$ sudo dpkg -i postgis_1.5.1-1_amd64.deb [sudo] password for woodbri: (Reading database ... 75044 files and directories currently installed.) Errors were encountered while processing: postgis I have attached the postgis_1.5.1-1_amd64.build.gz from the pdebuild. [DebianGIS-dev] Bug#523027: incorrect upstream fix for CVE-2009-0840 (mapserver)
Hi I've reported that to the devs. They should fix that as soon as possible. ALan On June 22, 2009 09:24:35 am Nico Golde wrote: Hi, from the CVE description: | Heap-based buffer underflow in the readPostBody function in cgiutil.c in | mapserv in MapServer 4.x before 4.10.4 and 5.x before 5.2.2 allows remote | attackers to have an unknown impact via a negative value in the | Content-Length HTTP header. The affected code is in cgiutil.c: 41 static char *readPostBody( cgiRequestObj *request ) 42 { 43 char *data; 44 int data_max, data_len, chunk_size; 45 46 msIO_needBinaryStdin(); 47 48 /* */ 49 /* If the length is provided, read in one gulp.*/ 50 /* */ 51 if( getenv(CONTENT_LENGTH) != NULL ) { 52 data_max = atoi(getenv(CONTENT_LENGTH)); 53 data = (char *) malloc(data_max+1); 54 if( data == NULL ) { 55 msIO_printf(Content-type: text/html%c%c,10,10); 56 msIO_printf(malloc() failed, Content-Length: %d unreasonably large?\n, data_max ); 57 exit( 1 ); 58 } 59 60 if( (int) msIO_fread(data, 1, data_max, stdin) data_max ) { There is obviously a problem in case the content-length is negative. The following is the upstream patch which was used to fix this issue: static char *readPostBody( cgiRequestObj *request ) { char *data; - int data_max, data_len, chunk_size; + unsigned int data_max, data_len; + int chunk_size; Unfortunately this doesn't fix the issue and I wonder why people always think changing signed types to unsigned will fix such errors. If I pass 0x as the content-length according to type conversion rules in C atoi() will convert this to -1 which is again converted to 0x when assigning it to an unsigned int. data_max+1 in line 53 will then overflow and malloc is called with a parameter of 0. This causes malloc to allocated the smallest possible chunk but it will _not_ return NULL (well, implementation defined). So it is still possible to perform a heap-based buffer overflow after the upstream fix. I'm not sure if this should get a new CVE id but the versions in the CVE id description should be adjusted and the upstream patch revised. Cheers Nico P.S. @Alan, this is also the reason I have to reject your packages in our security queue again. -- Alan Boudreault Mapgears http://www.mapgears.com ___ Pkg-grass-devel mailing list Pkg-grass-devel@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-grass-devel
