No - just that the audio data will take a different path than the video (buffered by Windows, put into packets sent by TCP, received by player ) all takes time and that player neeeds to build up a buffer of audio before it can be played. The main delay of typically at least 5-10 secs is usually in Windows - network and processing delays also occur but are much smaller. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35718 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Wave Input plugin v1.00
Very low activity here. I have a few questions. 1. Is this plugin still active? Let's see if I understood how it functions, and whether my planned setup would work. I want to use this for movies because my integrated amplifier only has coax SPDIF in. A Squeezebox Receiver is connected to the amp. I have a professional sound card PCI-E in a PC. 2. Since sound will be looped back and then sent to the Squeezebox (I plan to do so over Wifi), I assume I can connect the soundcard, but I won't have to add any cabling. Is my assumption correct? 3. The soundcard and the movies are on a remote PC. I plan to send the film to another PC, which is too crowded to mount the soundcard. This will do processing with madVR and be connected to the TV. Sound will be sent over wifi to the Squeezebox, connected to the amp. Provided the wifi can handle it, is this a feasible set up? 4. Alternatively I could send the movie and the sound to the second PC, and then have it distribute the audio to the Receiver over RJ45. Perhaps a better alternative, but this second PC won't have the Sound card, so I believe this makes it impossible to stream the sound via this PC? Lipsync may be an issue. Probably not the only challenge. So, could any of these set ups be feasible? For the ones interested, this plugin is perfect to get unsupported services to work on our beloved hardware. The perfect companion is an application that allows controlling the stream remotely, for example through an android phone. I have used GSRemote and I am pleased with it. I think the plugin will not work if LMS is run as a service as services have no access to the audio h/w. You've cut out all the interesting message from the log and left them on your desk. Complete unedited logs are important as sometimes it is the messages that are missing that are important. There should be at least 100 lines of log messages. Please do the following. 1. Change the three 3 log settings to debug and click Apply. 2. Note the time on your system as this will be the time of the first log message that is to be copied. 3. Use Tune-in or your favorites to play wavin:0 4. Wait for 30 secs. 5. Stop the player/Clear the playlist 6. Note the system time as this is the time of the last message to be copied. 7. Open the system log and copy all message from the start time (step 2) until the end time (step 6) into a text file. Do not edit the message in any way. 8. Zip the text file and attach to a post. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35718 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Wave Input plugin v1.00
Sorry if I'm reviving an old thread - should I be creating a new one? I have been trying to get the waveinput plugin to work on Windows XP using Logitech Media Server Version: 7.7.1. (Essentially to get it to work with Shairport4w to play my Audible files from my iPhone). As part of the debugging I followed the advice on the Wiki (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/WaveInput_plugin) which is to say I ran the command wavin2cmd.exe -w -o wavin:0 audiocapture.wav I waited for a minute or two before stopping it (Ctl-c) Then tried to listen to the file (VLC and Media Player and Audacity) and there is only 1 second's worth of music regardless of how big the file is. I repeated this many times waiting either a short or long time. The file size is proportional to the wait but there is only ever 1 second's worth of music. I guess there is no point expecting the plugin to work if the command line program doesn't deliver. In LMS, if I select the favourite I have created with wavin:0 as the address, The web interface briefly says Connecting at the bottom and then the squeezebox (or other player) ends up with an empty playlist. Checking the server log always shows the following so any hints about where to look would be gratefully received. By what type of server I meant hardware - some servers such as WHS or or other have embedded Windows or no audio hardware. The ability to record the audio output of the PC depends on the capabilities of the driver supplied by the vendor. On many laptops this functionality is missing and the user has to find a driver with the required functionality. To check if your system has this functionality - use the Sound Record accessory and see if the relevant source is available. I have no experience with Win 7 but on some Vista systems, the What U Hear or similar audio source had to be explicitly enabled in the control panel first before a user could record from PC speaker audio. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35718 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

UPDATE: Having tested the MP3 stream over the default FLAC it seems to be holding onto the stream to just the Boom much better. Dare I say even perfectly. Takes a little longer to initialise the stream for some reason but once it's going it's fine. Still drifts but from our conversations I think that just goes with the territory. Now to try linking up the two extra software/open peak/Joggler frames. -- Mod74 Mod74's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=39010 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35718 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Wave Input plugin v1.00
Hi. I have. Dedicated P4 media PC Latest nightly build of SBS Wavin Squeezebox Boom 2x Software players (OpenPeak frame running Rhubarbs player) PC is connected to main router via ethernet. Second router is connected to that via ethernet. The only devices connected to second router are the Boom and OpenPeak frames. At the moment I only have the Boom connected. Playback is initialised from Zune (DRM files) and then picked up by wavin. Playback will be fine but drifts out around a second for every 5 or 6 hours its running. Approximately. Over the course of a couple of days it goes up to 10-15 seconds so I select a radio stream and then reselect wavin (via favourites button on the boom) and it usually kicks back to 1 or 2 second delay. Quite a lot of the time even when just streaming to the Boom alone the stream gets bogged down and is buffering every couple of minutes. Playback from the main SBS library (non DRM tracks) and radio streams are almost always fine. Is there a way to tone down the quality levels the wavin plugin produces. I know there's command line options but i don't really understand how they're invoked as the wavin plugin just starts automatically when I initilise playback. That would probably help the buffering (which really, is the main problem) but I'm at a loss as to why it continues to drift. Thanks. -- Mod74 Mod74's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=39010 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35718 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Wave Input plugin v1.00
Generally sync will not work properly with s/w players. If you are syncing a h/w player with a s/w player - then for most configuration there will be always be a problem with sync some users have attributed the issue to the clock on standard PC audio output not being as accurate as the SB h/w players. A drift of 1 sec every 5 hours is very very good compared to what user often experience. The wavin plugin takes a PCM stream (44.1/16) from Windows audio system. By default the stream will be converted into Flac to send to players. If you do not want Flac - then disable the Settiongs/Filetypes/ Wave Input for Flac and PCM and only leave the MP3 option enabled. Quite a lot of the time even when just streaming to the Boom alone the stream gets bogged down and is buffering every couple of minutes. Sounds like you have a network issue and cannot deliver sufficient bandwidth for Flac over a sustained period. Run the SB network test or test with wired connection to confirm. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35718 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Okay, I am fairly confident I solved this one now. I only had about 2 rebufferings all day of using wave input. I don't know why this only happens with wave input and not with live radio streams or streaming from my own music collection, but maybe it was the size of the streams that wave input uses? The problems seems to stem from the use of wireless-N on my network. I turned Wireless-N off on my router and set it for Network-G only (which the Squeezebox Boom uses.) That seemed to do the trick. It's been running pretty flawlessly ever since. So thanks guys for your help. Use SBS Network Test to separate problems associated with WaveInput with general Network problems. There may be a router traffic issues. You said your SBS system and player are both connected using wireless. Most Live internet radio streams (which are usually less than 320kbps) will go straight from internet to router and router to Radio. It needs 1 low speed wireless hops. Flac file from SBS to player will again only have two wireless hops but higher speed from SBS to router and router to player - Flac is typically needs about 700kbps so playing file will need two hops but SBS is control of the stream. Waveinput will need 3 wireless hops. It will need a stream from internet to router and router to PC. Then Flac from PC to router and router to player. If internet stream being played on a browser has some video content (e.g. ads) this could add up to higher traffic. There may be other issue that come into play such as blocking traffic or router traffic management. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35718 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

All three (iMac, Boom, and SBS laptop) are running wirelessly. The iMac wave input didn't stutter at all. No rebuffering or disconnects. While the iMac was playing at the exact same time, the Boom had only three incidences of rebuffering in ten minutes. After 10 minutes I turned off the iMac SqueezePlay and let the Boom run all by itself. I got about one rebuffering per minute and even a disconnected by remote which required me to hit play again. I don't know what this means unless it means the Boom is bad. I hope not. It seems to run fine for all other purposes. [ edit: am I correct in understanding you're going wireless from the desktop where SC runs to the router ? If so, try wired ] I wasted many, many, hours of my life testing with my wired NIC at 100 Full Duplex. I strongly suggest that you do not use this setting, unless you know that on your NIC and OS this setting also uses Autonegotiation. On my NIC using XP this setting precludes Autonegotiation, which is a no-no for almost all systems see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonegotiation). There is a separate setting called Autoneg for 100FD which works fine. Autonegotiation on it own also works fine for me. However, this is all a bit irrelevant using a wireless connection. -- PasTim PasTim's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41642 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35718 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

MrC;635431 Wrote: PasTim, different NICs and drivers provide different settings for allowing user's to configure NIC speed, duplex and auto-negotiation. For example, mine does not have a separate setting, one each for a speed/duplex setting with and without auto-negotiation. The more important point is to understand the link partner's capabilities. The problem that was trying to be tested and excluded (if I recall correctly in your case, and for some others) was that certain NICs and their drivers did not reliably support gigabit Ethernet on Windows 7, particularly x64, and thus must be downgraded speed-wise to 100mbit. The nVidia 4 chip series was just such a platform, as are certain Realtek chips. Other people had problems with TCP checksum offloading. There were also some wireless connectivity issues with DLink's DIR655 and DIR855 models and some of the Logitech music devices. The duet would not maintain a connection to a DIR855 in the same room. So the suggestion to try was to a) remove wireless entirely, and b) reduce the Ethernet connection rate as necessary. It is not clear which tests have been performed yet, and which variables have been eliminated. Agreed. However, it is important to know that such settings can (but may not) make matters worse, and if at all possible one should use a setting that includes autonegotiation. I believe (but can't prove) that on systems where there is no separate option, autonegotiation is included all the time. What is still very puzzling is why some systems have problems with wavin using flac transmission, but not playing other flacs. This is true for rrand as well me. (I managed to get myself into an additional but separate set of problems by sending flacs from my library in PCM format.) Could the wavin problem be related to some form of duplex handling issue - receiving over the internet and sending out to the Boom/Touch/whatever at the same time? rrand - what is your music source when using wavin? -- PasTim PasTim's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41642 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35718 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I went through a range of checks on my PC (easily powerful enough - it ships out 24/96 PCM files with no problem), security software (including disabling it), using MP3, etc. The only thing that would make wavin work on my PC with my Touch was using PCM. I had, on occasion, 2 minute delays between the source and the Touch playing. The data seemed to go out to the Touch (according to the logs) but it didn't play for a long time. All I know for sure is that something very strange can happen with wavin. So I have a system that works, but have no idea of the cause of the original problem. Wavin depends on PC audio driver and the PC audio subsystem which can do weird things (e.g. resampling, add sound effects) depending on the audio hardware. The wavin2cmd application justs copies bytes from a Window PCM stream. The SBS transcoding uses the socketwrapper.exe and named pipes. Socketwrapper had to be rewritten because many security s/w app thinks named pipes are non safe and so they examine the bytes - sometimes holding onto bytes for a indeterminate periods. I give up give in. Nothing I hear says why rrand experiences problems with wavin but not other flacs. Network problems presumably apply in either case. If he has problems with wavin, there's an issue related to (but not necessarily caused by) wavin. It may be a general problem but there's got to be a reason why it manifests itself to the listener with one sort of traffic and not another. As far my wavin problem was concerned I could see the flac message being sent from the PC to the Touch (by looking at the Microsoft Network Monitor, and graphically using Task Manager, and by process activity). I could play a 30 second track. See the data go out. Wait for the Touch to play it, and see no more data being sent after the first batch. The Touch just didn't play them for tens of seconds up to 2 minutes (at one point I thought the data could be going out to the internet and back in, but I proved that wasn't true). I'm well aware no one believes me (except for me myself), but I repeated the experiment and I believe in the evidence. The wavin stream is an internet stream whereas playing other Flac was from the SBS disk. Playing an internet stream and using wavin to stream to player will make more use of the network than streaming Flacs file. I ended up screwing everything up so bad I got blue screen of death errors every time I logged in after about a minute of use. I tried going back to a restore point which failed which caused me to not be able to log into Windows at all. Today I downloaded a Windows 7 disk and did a system restore from there and now I'm back up again. I'm a little hesitant to try connecting by wire again on this computer. I had to reinstall SBS after the system restore so I installed 7.5.4. I don't know if, like you said, the router is dying or not. If you can't find the source of the problem you may have to go back to basics. I connected my Touch directly to my PC via an Ethernet cable. To do this I had to use a fixed IP address - I don't know if you can do this with a Boom. I managed to show that my problems were not in the network switches or network cabling. Since there is little one can change on the Touch I then worked back into the PC, looking at the NIC, and found a problem there. If that doesn't help, the next thing I'd look at would be security software. If you can test with a direct connection (and no internet connection) it should be safe to turn off all security software and see whether that helps. You might also check the CPU and Network loads using whatever Windows 7 has for Task Manager. The network load should be trivial for flacs (1-2%), and the CPU shouldn't be busy. I assume you are playing something over the Internet that you can't pick up direct on the Boom so have to use Wavin? As I reported earlier I never found the underlying cause of my wavin problem, just a workable solution. I'm out of ideas right now. I'll post again if anything occurs to me. -- PasTim PasTim's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41642 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35718 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

So your problem is networking. You are going to have to test all components to isolate the problem - verify boom can play fast internet streams (e.g. 320k) through Mysb.com - changes cables between PC and router and router and player. - check TCP and IP stat on PC net interface to see if there are errors - check PasTim suggestion about NIC interface autoneg settings on PC -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35718 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Do we know what NIC rrand has on the server? -- MrC MrC's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=468 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35718 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Wave Input plugin v1.00
The NIC is an Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6200 AGN. I upgraded the SqueezeBox Server to 7.6.0. Now I'm able to make it through multiple songs with maybe only a single Buffering. (Actually, I don't even know if it says buffering anymore, as it happens so infrequently. I just hear it stop playing for a few moments.) I'm running the streaming test again and at 500 kbps I average 99% which is much better than the earlier test. -- rrand rrand's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=47295 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35718 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Wave Input plugin v1.00
It just rebuffered, then it said Connection reset by remote. Then it stopped and now it's just waiting for user input. :( -- rrand rrand's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=47295 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35718 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Try this. Go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections, right click the LAN connection and select Properties. Click the Configure button and select the Advanced tab. Scroll down the list to Speed Duplex, and set that to 100 Full duplex and OK your way out. Then test again. -- MrC MrC's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=468 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35718 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
