Re: [Qgis-user] [QGIS-Developer] lack of conflation tools
Hi, Geospatial data conflation is not an easy task, and usually depends on : - the input data - desired output - semantics - conflation based mainly on semantics( / attribute data ), topology or purely geometric Note that semantic and topology-based methods are much more robusts than geometry-based ones. In any case, there is no magic workflow and the method has to be adapted to the specific context. I contributed to an implementation based on PostGIS quite a long time ago : https://docplayer.fr/8718145-Appariement-de-graphes-de-reseau-avec-postgis.html ( in french ). There could be some generic algorithms which could be made available in QGIS processing to ease creation of workflows for conflation ( e.g. node fingerprints, geometry local correspondance search ). Get in touch if you are interested in developing some. Re: [Qgis-user] Using Processing for nightly ETL jobs
Hi Björn, yes that works. Only challenge is that you have to tell the algorithm which geometry type the data is, whereas QGIS' native PostGIS writer does check that for itself and use an appropriate one. Being not able to tell beforehand I established a geometry filter and use the multi type in the writer. Re: [Qgis-user] Looking for assistance with fixing RTL label bugs
Again thanks for your efforts. I'm sure we'll land on the source of the prob, and find a solution. As I said, I don't think this is a QGIS issue. The underlying bidi library should handle this, AFAIK. On 29/05/2024 4:34, Nyall Dawson wrote: Thanks for your insights Micha! Unfortunately I can't solve this one given my lack of language knowledge. I'll step aside and let a native RTL language developer take over. The few details (that are mentioned in the issue tracker) that might help track down the root of the problem: 1- There was no issue up to 3.28. The reports appeared only on 3.30 and above. 2- I'm pretty sure that it occurs only on Windows, and only Win 11. Just now checked again on my Debian machine, with 3.36, and the problem does not appear, and never has. 3- Somehow I think this might be a Qt problem. Do you know if there were any Qt changes in Win installs between 3.28 and 3.30.x? Actually, if it works on a given platform, it's by accident and not design . There's no tests covering this and I don't think it's been actually thought out by design. So my questions related to high level design decisions, like: - should the switch to rtl layout determined by the content of a label alone? Or is it determined by the font choice? Or the users locale? Or should it be an explicit choice set per layer, so that the project will appear In my opinion, by the content alone. Not font choice since many fonts have glyphs in both RTL and LTR languages. Not user's locale, since a map can contain text in different RTL languages even if the locale LANG setting is Western LTR. Not by layer, since user's can have multiple text attributes with text in different languages in each. In full featured word processors there is, of course, a button to choose text directionality on a per-paragraph level. But I don't think implementing that is required for map labels. identical when shared with a user using a different locale for their qgis? - how should mixed ltr and rtl string work? Should users be required to manually insert rtl / ltr unicode markers? Traditionally that has been handled by the underlying bidi library. All the problematic edge cases of (i.e. a period within a string of numbers should be LTR but a period at the end of RTL language string should be assumed to be at the end of the RTL string), are taken care of by that library. I'm pretty sure this was the case with <=3.28.x. I wouldn't expect users to know how to insert RTL unicode. We just switch the keyboard language. - how should rtl be handled with respect to multiline text alignment? Ideally, alignment (as opposed to RTL directionality) should be user configurable. I believe you have already done this with the legend that allows aligning legend items to the right or left. But, regarding map labels, a minimalist approach would be to always align RTL text to the right, and LTR text to the left. (Don't let "perfect be the enemy of good") - is rtl placement of characters determined by graphemes? Ie do we split the string to graphemes and then lay these out right to left? Or is it done on individual characters? Not sure I understand. But as above, the underlying bidi library should be handling the cases of individual characters that might be RTL in some cases, and LTR in others. Cheers Nyall If I can be of any further help testing, let me know. i.e. I can update a colleague's machine, and prepare a very simple test project... Thanks for your insights Micha! Unfortunately I can't solve this one given my lack of language knowledge. I'll step aside and let a native RTL language developer take over. I've introduced some tests in https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/pull/57586 which could be a starting point for someone. Thanks Richard, I will check that out. On a relatively unrelated note, on a raster, if I go to Symbology window, click on Transparency, and accidently leave the Transparency Band option on Band 1, the raster will appear half transparent regardless of what you do in the Symbology tab. [Qgis-user] Retirement & Future QGIS Support Options
Hi Everyone, In a month I will be retiring from US federal government service. For the last few years my efforts were on promoting open source GIS software for government use. I've had some success but wish it would have been easier. I am the author of 12 official QGIS plugins, https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/user/hamiltoncj/ There is another organization who is supposed to take over maintenance of most of these plugins. I don't know whether it will happen or not. In the near term I will fix any major bugs until they actually take over. If they don't take over I might be back asking to see if anyone is interested in supporting them. I can't do it forever and I still need to make a living. I am interested in continuing working part time with the QGIS community and open source GIS. I think I am one of the few US QGIS plugin developers. As a hobby I have worked with the archaeological community in processing Lidar and magnetometry data. That has been fun. Please send me a note if you know of any part time job opportunities in supporting QGIS and other open source GIS software. [Qgis-user] QGIS master password
Hi QGIS Users, I've been battling with the 'master' password for years now because I've been trying to work with a centrally managed password store. The method is simple enough, you have a plugin that you distribute to the devices you are configuring, and the plugin sets and activates your password store. This works fine and is all good until someone breaks or disables the plugin. In this situation, by design, the user doesn't know the password and needs our help, which is fine, but the issue is that QGIS asks for the password once (or more) for every layer in any project they open. This creates a nasty user experience if they open a project with a lot of layers. Is there a way to suppress the message completely? I ask for two reasons: 1. QGIS already handles it fine as without the prompt the layers will just fail and we will get the handle bad layers dialogue. This means I don't think the master password prompt is needed at project load at all*. 2. The term 'master' is not favoured anymore and I'd rather this were renamed to 'primary' or 'main' password if we are going to continue having the prompt. * I think the prompt is only really needed when you click on the authentication tab in the settings. I'm happy to switch to the developer list and look at whether I can at least do the name change as I'm sure that should be mostly just UI changes but ideally there would just be an option to supress the dialogue completely. I'm aware some will want it so I was just hoping there is a setting under advanced I can use. Does anyone know if there is one? Re: [Qgis-user] Looking for assistance with fixing RTL label bugs
Nyall, I cannot read a RTL language myself, but we do have some RTL languages as site/documentation translations. If I remember correct it was actually pretty easy and worked remarkebly good for the site: See for example: https://qgis.org/fa/site/ All rtl language inclused this css: https://qgis.org/fa/_static/qgis-style-rtl.css with only: body { direction: rtl !important; } in it. Not sure if that is possible on other elements though. [Qgis-user] Tool Similar to "Service area (from point)"
Hello! I'm relatively new to QGIS and I found the "Service area (from point)" tool very useful for going out on a roadway network a certain distance in all directions from a point. However, I'm wondering if there is a similar feature where the user gives every roadway segment a numerical score and then the tool will go out to a certain score. For example, can I see how far a 100 score is in every direction? Basically, rather than using segment length like with "Service area (from point)", I'd like to be able to use a user defined numerical value. Any information would be greatly appreciated! I am using QGIS version 3.36.2. Install these components idenpendently from qGis and let qGis use them, so it would be possible to update these components via installer to newer versions. 2. download these files for these components and replace them where qGis installed them. thanks in advance Markus UEFA EURO 2024 14. When you import a project into QField it's just excessively zoomed in. You have to pinch-zoom with your fingers to zoom out a bunch of times until you're at the right scale. I guess someone should submit a bug report because it used to open showing the same view you last saved in QGIS but now it's not only zoomed in but also offset quite a ways from the QGIS view. [Qgis-user] Help reading mesh layer from Postgresql
Hi, I would love to store netCDF files in Postgresql/PostGIS and read them as mesh layers. I'm able to store netCDF in PostGIS and add it as a rasters in QGIS. To store it on PostGIS: raster2pgsql -s 4326 -d -I -C -M AZ1_HS_2023101200.nc -F public.az1_hs_2023101200 | psql service=atlantico Check if it is ok: gdalinfo "PG:service=atlantico schema='public' table=az1_hs_2023101200" Load it in QGIS (as raster): uri_config = { 'service':'atlantico', 'schema':'public', 'table':'az1_hs_2023101200', 'geometrycolumn':'rast' } md = QgsProviderRegistry.instance().providerMetadata('postgresraster') uri = QgsDataSourceUri(md.encodeUri(uri_config)) rlayer = iface.addRasterLayer(uri.uri(False), "az1_hs_2023101200", "postgresraster") I would like to load it as a mesh layer. Loading a mesh from file works as expected. mesh_layer_path: str = "/tmp/AZ1_HS_2023101200.nc" mesh_layer = QgsMeshLayer(mesh_layer_path, "layer_name", "mdal") if not mesh_layer.isValid(): print("Layer failed to load!") else: QgsProject.instance().addMapLayer(mesh_layer) Is it possible to load it from PostGIS as a mesh? Should it be stored in another format? I've tried this: uri_config = { 'service':'atlantico', 'schema':'public', 'table':'az1_hs_2023101200', 'geometrycolumn':'rast' } md = QgsProviderRegistry.instance().providerMetadata('postgresraster') uri = QgsDataSourceUri(md.encodeUri(uri_config)) mesh_layer = QgsMeshLayer(uri.uri(False), "layer_name", "mdal") if not mesh_layer.isValid(): print("Layer failed to load!") else: QgsProject.instance().addMapLayer(mesh_layer) Regards, Jorge Gustavo ___ QGIS-User mailing list QGIS-User@lists.osgeo.org List info: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user Unsubscribe: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user

Re: [Qgis-user] Georeferencing dxf file in QGIS
Hi, I think the best solution is to use Georeferencer, in the newer versions of QGIS you can use georeferencer for vectors, too. Select Layer/Georeferencer from menu and read the manual: https://docs.qgis.org/3.34/en/docs/user_manual/working_with_raster/georeferencer.html The process is the same for raster and vector data. Re: [Qgis-user] Advance Digitising Tools- compass bearings
Hi Calvin: An interesting question. Another consideration is the coordinate system for your project. If it is a projected system, then you should consider convergence which is the angle between true north and grid north. In a common example, UTM zone meridians are the center of each zone which are given an arbitrary easting of 500,000m. If you are converting from magnetic to true north close to the meridian, then true north will be very close to grid north. If you are east of the meridian, perhaps close to the adjacent zone boundary, then grid north and true north will vary noticeably. We developed a script for calculating convergence in UTM as I am unaware of a plugin provides that level of functionality. Ultimately, it will depend on the coordinate system you are working in. If you reach out to me privately, I can share the script with you. Here we have a 66 foot chain with 100 links. That turns out to be 201mm, something I had never realized. I wonder if your data is in Gunter's chains, or in some metricified version where a link is really 0.2m. Sort of like how the kids in Europe drag race in "metric quarter miles" of 400m, or so we imagine in the US. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunter%27s_chain What you are trying to do (abstracting "gold lease" to "survey plan without global coordinates) seems common, and I have not really understood the best way to proceed. I think there are two parts: Capturing the survey plan in a local coordinate system *for that plan* which is going to be in distances at ground level (vs reduced to the ellipsoid) and oriented to perceived local magnetic north as of the date of survey (or for more modern plans, adopting a basis of bearings of some previous regional plan). Transforming that local coordinate system to global coordinates. This is a scale factor, perhaps left at 1 if there's no real evidence otherwise, translation and orientation. For the second part, it would be great to have a tool that lets you match up both coordinates and stores them in a control file you can edit, and produces an object you can use with proj. The georeferencer almost does this, but apparently only for images, and it's a little unclear to me about storage and redoing. ___ QGIS-User mailing list QGIS-User@lists.osgeo.org List info: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user Unsubscribe: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user

So you can enter everything with the given bearings and distances, then when you're done, use the "Scale Feature" tool. To do that correctly you need to know the point where the combined factor is applied. Hold the control key while clicking that point and then enter the combined factor in the box in the upper right corner. If you don't know the point where the combined factor is calculated, pick a point near the center of your feature(s), not the origin of the coordinate system (0, 0). -- Richard W. Hi Chris, yes I tried that. Any css-unit I could think of as well as em, % and code-words (large). But only pt resulted in a visible change on the canvas. Hi Thomas, you can try to involve the map_scale variable into a dynamic size of the HTML Label, something like: with_variable('fs', 25000/@map_scale, format( '%2', @fs , title( "Name" ))) Best regards Stefan Am 15.05.2024 um 09:13 schrieb Thomas Schüttenberg via QGIS-User: Hi there! Thank you Richard. Your suggestion was a step in the right direction. I had to import using the add vector layer then export as an ESRI shapefile and add the shapefile layer. That put all the features from the multiple dxf file layers on one layer and I was able to move the design. But it is important the keep the dxf layers separate and move the whole group of layers at once to maintain the relationship. You can just use the QGIS *Move Feature* tool, possibly in conjunction with the *Rotate Feature* and/or *Scale Feature* tools in the advanced digitizing toolbar. 1. Assign a coordinate system to the DXF layer. If you don't know the coordinate system, or if the DXF file doesn't have one, assign the coordinate system of your reference layer (your aerial photography) 2. Make your DXF file editable. Depending on how you imported it you may be able to make it editable, or you may need to copy all of the features to an editable work layer. 3. Select all of the features, pick the *Move Feature* tool, pick a source point on a corner of the building, pick a destination point on the corresponding corner in your reference layer. (this takes some serious panning and zooming!) 4. With all of the features still selected, pick the *Rotate Feature* tool, while holding the Control key click the building corner to fix the rotation base point, then click two more points to define the rotation angle. 5. You may need to scale it e.g. convert feet to meters. If so, pick the *Scale Feature* tool, hold the Control key and click a base point, then two more points to resize all of the features. The move, rotate and scale steps are performing an affine transformation which should provide reasonable results over small areas if both the DXF and reference layer are in projected coordinate systems, ideally local projected coordinate systems like State Plane or UTM, and not Web Mercator. Re: [Qgis-user] Can't accomplish comparisions between different Map Layer Table's
No it won't work. It's not SQL syntax, it's expression syntax. So you need to use a function to get the corresponding feature from another layer. Hence getfeature() or one of the overlay_ functions. You will end up with a long expression. Or, you could use sql in dB manager? Hi Nuno, As usual there are a number of ways to do this. Grass: r.resamp.stats as Em suggested would work, but might I also suggest the Warp tool, based on gdal_warp. This can be found by going to the Menu bar select Raster, Projections and Warp. Parameters: Input Layer Set this to the Raster you want to resample Source/Target CRS If you’re not transforming your dataset to another CRS then you can leave these alone, but you can also set these to the value of the Raster CRS Resampling method to use As you are looking for the average of the Pixel values, you can select Average here. No Data value for output Bands: Set if required Output file resolution……: This is the one of most interest to you, here you can set the resolution of the output to 2500 Reprojected: Specify the Location and Filename that you want the new Dataset to have, you can leave it blank if you like for a Temporary file to be created. Re: [Qgis-user] Looking for QGIS Python code for a three-level menu?
Hi Mike, I'm afraid you cannot add submenus to the plugin menu. The addPluginToMenu function only takes actions as an argument: action_1 = QAction('Action 1') iface.addPluginToMenu('Plugin 1', action_1) menu_1 = QMenu('Menu 1') iface.addPluginToMenu('Plugin 1', menu_1) The last line causes this error: TypeError: QgisInterface.addPluginToMenu(): argument 2 has unexpected type 'QMenu' Also see the docs: https://qgis.org/pyqgis/master/gui/QgisInterface.html#qgis.gui.QgisInterface.addPluginToMenu There might be a tricky way to get the QMenu of the main QGIS window and somehow add things in a Qt way. The trickiest bit would be getting a master list of ALL your shapefiles/etc you want to combine and passing this to the tool. It's not going to be easy from the GUI itself, as that only allows you to add files from a single folder at once. I'd run the tool on the files from a single folder, then checkout the processing history dialog and copy the python command which corresponds to what you just did. You could then adapt this command to pass a complete list of all the files you want to combine. (It's quite straightforward in Python to build a list of files which recursively match a file pattern -- see eg https://stackoverflow.com/a/2186565 ) Hope that helps! You could also create a companion metadata table. You would script something like this with shp2pgsql https://postgis.net/docs/using_postgis_dbmanagement.html To load the spatial data and likely the psql client with CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements in an SQL script. If you're on Linux or OS/X you would use the find command to create the shell script. Probably something similar in Power Shell if you're on Windows. > ___ QGIS-User mailing list QGIS-User@lists.osgeo.org List info: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user Unsubscribe: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user
[Qgis-user] Search through folders and combine SHP files
Hi I have loads, literally thousands, of SHP, GPKG, TAB files located in loads of different folders and sub-folders. Is there a plugin that will trawl through a set of folders, copy say just the polygons from each file into a new file, and populate a field with say the filename and folder the polygon(s) came from? Essentially combining a heap of files into one with some metadata about where the data came from? Why? I have files from clients dating back about 20 years. Clients sell properties. Properties get subdivided. New clients come and see us, and often we don't realise we have GIS info on file for that property from many years ago, usually under a different name. It would be handy to see a polygon on the screen and easily go back to some old GIS data. Maybe I am missing an easy tool to do this, but I can't see anything obvious.
